I was honestly hoping for some accountability here, but this vet (& LINDA) is super vindictive and it sucks that Dr Beverly has her name wrapped up with this now! The company you keep i guess.. Well here it goes! There is a male Dr. here whom I will praise, However, the rest of this company is not worth the ground it sits on. Sounds harsh, but that's how I get when it comes to my dogs. You can never get an answer from these people's front desk, and when you ask about it, they'll say "they don't know what happened they don't see your multiple calls or voicemails" and then tell you your dogs are behind on almost 5 shots a piece. (5 shots behind STARTING IN 2023 MIND YOU WEVE BEEN IN THERE SINCE MANY TIMES) My one dog had a surgery there (by the very awesome older male dr) and i was told her stitches were dissolvable, and they were not. 6-7 weeks post operation, we couldn't get ahold of anyone and just cut the stitches out ourselves. And then they will violate NC Medical Veterinary Laws and tell other people about your dogs surgeries just to "get you to drop it." I did one better, i dropped the whole vet and found a new one! UPDATE!!! The bottom is the note Dr Beverly Hargis left for my new vet!!! So Apparently they DIDDDD SEE MY VOICEMAILS HAHAH!!! (when they said i never called??) While looking at the first screenshot, notice the dates my first dog went out of all of her shots and we were NEVER notified! (Side note, the only way i got her phone number to TEXT HER was from family!!) Here's a screenshot of the very respectful texts i've sent to Beverley. I would never call a business owner personally after hours, as I am a business owner myself. 10/10 will never be back to this vet. We're LAUGHING at this even being posted!!! Have been using this vet for all of my family animals since 2016. Today I saw 2 females Caucasians pay a bill and leave a balance. I just paid my mom's emergency CT Scan and asked to pay 150 with 60 on Monday. I was told No and ironically I am spanish so this was definitely discrimination. I have paid them for all major surgeries and even cremation on my animals. Needless to say I will not be going back . I guess I wasn't white enough for the lady at the desk. read more

I want to update my review in regards to my previous review for my dog Ginger. Upon her doctors visit to her new Veterinarian , I am happy to say Ginger never had Congestive Heart Failure., she has no heart murmur, no fluid on lungs, she is in perfect health, besides a little hearing , and vision impairments, and a mild amount of joint stiffness. So this confirms she was misdiagnosed with CHF, by Animals R Us. She took prescribed Lasix, Enalapril, and Vetmedin for two yrs. Thank God it did not affect her Kidneys. As I mentioned in my first review, when the front desk told me her meds went up , I suggested I could purchase them at another pharmacy cheaper, front desk said they would charge me $15. for them writing the prescription. I believe this is a form of price gouging. My new veterinarian's office have called Animals R Us several times to get Gingers xrays, and dr notes sent to them, but they have not received them . I have called them, and heard nothing from them. I would never recommend any one to take their pets to Animals R Us. ! read more

The best Veterinary Services in Western North Carolina. I have relied on this team for 2 decades to provide care for numerous pets. I began with German Shepherds, Cats and a Yorkie. I have added goats in 2020. We all receive excellent care from the entire staff. I can highly recommend their services. Great Staff and Doctors, I felt comfortable and not rushed. I felt they truly cared about my animal and offered great care and service In a time were most veterinary hospitals are owned by a corporation, and it is all about the $$ and requiring soo many add ons to your pets exam or surgery just so your pet can have a routine procedure.. I found Animals R Us a very refreshing change.. they offer all that your pets need but do not push for doing extreme extras that are not necessary or even helpful.. read more

A cat, dog and now a new kitten are/ have been patients @ Animals R Us! From wellness, sick visits & boarding they are exceptional! The entire staff ... the front desk, vet assistants to the Veterinarians...everyone is SO warm and caring! Front desk staff/ office manager ( lol yeah ok). They lie! They hang all over the counter, talk to loud and a couple look homeless. They lie about giving "Protocols" at the time of your appointment. They get very upset if you question them too! Don't ask questions! The office manager wants to over talk ppl which completely escalates any situation and say things that doesn't make sense because she does not understand active listening. One month you call they have no office manager, the next time you call all the sudden there is an office manager? The office needs to take an active listening training and how not to escalate situations because they can not help themselves but too. No true leadership in the office and it shows. Yep they got cussed at after being dumb! You don't get to keep being dumb and not expect it to blow up on you. If you value true customer service stay away from this office! read more

What can I say? Do not assume you will see the same vet or a vet. Their communication is terrible. I made appointments for two geriatric cats. Since they had been seen about 6 months ago they scheduled it for just vaccines. I got a message asking if I wanted to see a vet to which I replied Y (yes). Well they told me they could not see the vet but they would try to fit them in between three emergencies. Very poor communication. Also, their diagnostic capabilities are terrible. I requested blood work and the vet talked me out of it??? Why?? Lastly, they do not do 1 year rabies vaccines. If I want a 1 year I need to go to another vet. My one geriatric cat had an unusual response to the 3 year. She was okay but very lethargic. I left their office and scheduled with another vet. I was uncertain about them but now I know they are not fit to treat my cats. read more

We have been using Beverly Hargus for our large and small animal needs since she graduated from Med school,early 1990's,she has treated Many horses and dogs for us over the years at our home and in her office with total professionalism and compassion and I have always got the same treatment at her facility from her staff and Veterinarian's who work for her.These people go beyond what it take's in every case they have handled for us.I highly recommend them!Just remember while reading some of these bad reviews that there is always two sides to every story. read more

Beware...there's something really not right with this place. I called numerous times numerous days, someone finally answered the phone & I made an appointment as a new client for my 2 small dogs. I went for their appointment, the Vet we saw seemed very knowledgeable, polite & he had a really good "bedside manner". I really liked him. He seemed caring, patient, answered my questions & we even had a few laughs. I'm sure I had a lot of questions because I wanted to learn about them & how things worked. My last question, I ask him about how they're phone system worked & mentioned about how I'd called numerous times to make this appointment but no one had answered the phone. I told him that I had decided to try calling one last time & that I was glad I did, because someone answered the phone, I made the appointment & now I was there. I could immediately tell he was NOT happy to hear I had called so many times before ever reaching someone. He stated that there was 4-5 people answering their phones & that should never happen. I tried to assure him that it wasn't that big of a deal. I could tell he was really upset. He wrote a note & told me that he would find out why the phones weren't being answered & stated that the owners couldn't make money if people couldn't get them on the phone to make an appointment. It really made me feel bad. I felt like I had ruined his day. As I was leaving, I went to the desk to pay my bill & I asked them about their procedures and how things work there so I would know what their "rules" were too. One of which was, they told me that if I ever had an emergency with my dogs, just to come straight there if I couldn't reach them by phone. I told them that I LOVED that because that's NOT how one of our previous Vet's office operated & I said that made me very happy to hear. The girls at the desk complained about how busy their phones were & I told them how our previous vet's office operated & they said that they'd tried that system & it didn't work for them. I asked if they'd tried another way, it was a way we did phones at a place I'd previously worked, & they said yes they had, & that didn't work for them either. I laughed & jokingly said that they just needed to hire more help for them on phones. I left feeling good about finding our new Vet! My dogs remained healthy, no problems & we hadn't needed an appointment. We got a nice Christmas card from them at Christmas. Then one of my dogs had a bad fall and got hurt really badly & was in a lot of pain. It was early in the morning & I knew they weren't open yet so I dressed, got us in the car & headed for the Vet's office. When I got there, they were just opening. I was upset & crying because my dog was in so much pain. The lady asked who I was, looked on the computer & told me to get out & not come back. I was so shocked! I was speechless! She informed me that I had caused "too many problems" when I was there previously & that they would not see my dog. I left with my baby in my arms & drove to Asheville to our previous Vet's office who saw him immediately & took him straight into surgery. He was hurt so badly & in so much pain that our previous Vet had him in surgery within 40 minutes of me arriving with him in Asheville. Animals R Us didn't care how badly he was hurt nor how much pain he was in. When all was said & done, it took 4 surgery's over several months to fix his hip and knee. Shortly after, I heard that they have a female vet now at Animals R Us & that the Vet I saw the day I was there, left there a while back. Maybe he found out something isn't right with this place??? I don't know but if you're considering this Vet's office & you want to be a customer, DON'T ASK QUESTIONS! Apparently if you ask questions about their procedures, you'll be told not to come back. There's something really wrong with a place that doesn't want you to ask questions about them or what their procedures are. If you have nothing to hide, you don't mind answering questions about how your office operates. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE BECAUSE SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE!!!! read more

We have been bringing our dogs Dallas and Denver to this place for over 8 YEARS! I use to call Dr Beverly Hargus, our Dr. Pol. I thought that this veterinarian care facility was the best in the County. Well on Oct. 30, 2020 we ordered the dogs Trifexis from Walmart, we have ordered Vetprofen from here too with the approval of Animals R Us. On Sept. 1, 2020 I got an email from Walmart saying "Rx approval request has been sent to your Vet - 2nd attempt" this is Thursday. I called and asked the 1st person about the order, she told me it would be a $7.00 charge and that both dogs have Heartworm checks in about 3 months, I told her I knew that, but just wanted to get their Trifexis now, has it been approved. She told me to stop yelling, I told her I was not yelling, I don't have my hearing aids in at the moment. She transferred me to the pharmacist very abruptly. Well the person that I spoke to, was just as rude, she told me that because this order has a different dog on it, they had to charge me another $7.00, I told her that we had just gotten the Vetprofen a couple of months ago and,,, I was cut off and was told "when you order from some place else it takes money away from us," that I could leave a message for the office mgr., I did. The next day, I left a message in the morning with the office mgr. and he called be back later that afternoon. He told me that I was rude to his work staff, that I should find another veterinarian and they would mail my dog's files to us. He did say that they would approve the meds for the dogs as a courtesy, and they would no longer service us. I told him this was ridiculous, how can this be over me asking about a $7.00 charge? He had no other comment. I never had a problem with the way they cared for the dogs, the prices for meds are a bit high and the wait to get them takes as long as an actual visit. I've very unhappy how this all turned out, the lack of communication, the inability to work through such communication issues has caused this review. I do not recommend Animals R Us to anyone that loves there animals and wants a good open communication with the office staff, pharmacy and veterinarian. read more

There comes a time that all pet owners will have to make that dreadful decision. That day came for us on our 11 year old Golden Retriever. After our own vet would not fit us in on this terrible day after several calls, we were told to keep him doped up and bring him in the next day at 11. That did not go well after being a patient of Etowah Valley my dogs whole life. We were told to call Beverly M. Vargus, DVM at Animals R Us. Even though we were not a patient of hers, she eased our pain and was at our house within the hour of our call (after 6pm). She treated our dog with the dignity and respect any owner could hope for in its final hour. Her love and caring for an animal she had never met, told me I had been going to the wrong vet all these years. I will be bringing our other dog and any future ones to her for their needs. Our appointment was 3PM. We were called and sat in a tiny treatment room after a short assessment from the assistant who was very attentive, kind and understanding. My hubby and myself with my trembling and panting dog on my lap were in the treatment room for over 45 minutes. No one checked in with us or gave us an explanation of the wait time. I told my husband we are leaving at 4PM. This is the second and last appointment that took over an hour. Poor customer service. read more

I can't begin to tell you the story I have about this practice which I was highly recommended from a friend. Overall the front desk and assitant was cordial and accommodating helping me get my two dogs history and records from a practice that I had been going to for almost 6 years. They seemed like it was welcome and no problem. My dogs are aging and need some adjustments. It took a couple of days and seemed like there was no problem handling them as new patients but when I arrived and was excited to possibly be getting some new help for my dogs I was in for a surprise. After assistant consult, the vet came in she was rude and basically told me she didn't want us as patients as our past history was too much and maybe someone else that had time would do a better job . Her name is DR JUDY KRAUSKOPF. A fill In vet. She was very rude and had no compassion for older animals. I was distraught and dismayed after this weird visit. There is more but takes too much space! DR JUDY KRAUSKOPF seems like maybe you're in the wrong profession. People, maybe your puppy will be okay but good luck with older pets!! Discrimination at its finest! read more

I brought my frenchie bulldog here for surgery to remove a growth on her chest and to get her fixed. I was told when I picked her up that she needed a partial tubal removal, which I rescued my fur baby so there's no telling what all she needed. I brought her backed several wks later to get her staples and stitches removed when I got home two days later I noticed there was a hard place in her chest I looked at it closely it looked as though there was a stitch sticking out! I called them to let them know and they told me it would Dissolve. Needless to say I called another vet they got my fur baby in and took the stitch out that had a not in it so they had to cut the not and pull it out. They didn't charge me a dime! I got her records faxed there and I will never go back to this place. The front desk is a joke and this place has very poor communication with their staff. read more
