This is an exceptional cat focused (cat only clinic). I followed Dr. Racey from the Country Cat Clinic here to the Ann Arbor Cat Clinic. She has cared for multiple cats over the years. Since my cats have had special medical issues ranging from cancer to neurological issues, she has been available to provide regular vet care and also assist me in securing appointments to specialists. It is a shame that when someone puts in an application 5 weeks ago to get Sherk and Donkey and came to see them on Friday and was told it is first come first serve on the apps and the person still didn't get them. They had visited them and got a long with them well. Also, this person has be a long time owner of cats and only used your cat clinic being almost an hour away and yet you still gave them to someone else. It is a disappointment that I have my cats there and I am now thinking of going somewhere else. It took years for her to get over the death of her babies, took a lot of time and thought to want to get sibling cats and you strung her along. Don't say that you didn't tell her that the apps were first come first serve. I was there and she had it in 5 weeks ago, hoping and waiting. So adopters beware, even if you get along with the kittens and have an amazing record taking care of your cats, they will play the favorites game and you will not get the cat. The doctors and staff were dedicated to Storm's recovery, and I received frequent phone calls to check on her progress. This clinic proved to me that they cared more about my cat than any financial gain. I called to make an appointment for my cat. He was a new patient and would need to wait a few days for the first appointment. I explained my cats issue over the phone and it was suggested that I get my cat seen by a Dr right away to avoid any complications. They gave a suggestion of clinic. After 25-years of taking my cats to this clinic, I am done. Last week I made the difficult decision to take my elderly mom's beloved cat Reuben in with the intent to end his suffering. I described in detail his behaviors and symptoms. At 17-years old her cat weight 8 lbs and was bones. It was confusing for my mother to understand cause he was still eating. I asked the doctor what she would do if this was her cat. We depend on compassionate voices from physicians to help us make difficult decisions. I cried cause I didn't know what to do, although I did. She convinced me to run $300 worth of blood work cause it could be his thyroid. Well, it wasn't. Even after the blood work came back, she suggested further tests. I knew we would not be doing that. Instead, I returned from a business trip to witness Reuben howl in what seemed like terrible pain and then convulse and die under my bed. Mom didn't want his remains so I dropped him off for general cremation. The receptionist said she didn't think they were going to charge me (or my dementia suffering mom) for the cremation, but the manager came back after taking Reuben's lifeless body to the back to collect the final $65. Really terrible terrible ending for our cat. read more

I really like the care and attention that AACC provides with every visit. My baby Lightning was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago. The care and follow ups he gets here are wonderful. They run a no-kill shelter for strays, and it's always nice to get and give a little kitty love with every visit. I recommend that if you're looking for a new family member, check out the fur babies here first. Also, consider getting an adult cat, they are already litter trained, and you can see their personality while you visit with them there. The staff are all able to tell you about the personalities of each of the cats waiting for their new forever home. I really like that they only treat cats. There will never be any barking dogs that will stress out your cat during the visit. My cats Toby and Lightning are both scared of dogs, so it's very stressful for them to be in a waiting room with dogs barking so close to them. They are much calmer and more cooperative when they have their appointments, since I started taking them to AACC. read more

I recently had to put down my sweet kitty, whom I adopted from the AACC's program in 2012. He was an adult with an unknown past, but he was wonderful and cuddly and slept with me every night. The AACC is my regular vet, and I use them for checkups, vaccinations, etc. When I started noticing some changes in my kitty's health, I brought him in for what was to become our 7 month battle with chronic pancreatitis and, at the very end, other complications. I worked with pretty much all the doctors on staff at some point, but in the end, I was working almost exclusively with Dr. Kaufeld, and also to some extent Dr. Griebe (whom I like very much). Dr. Kaufeld and I just clicked. We got each other. Together, we tried numerous things until we got something that worked. I felt like she really cared and was invested in both of us. When it was time for my boy to go, we both just knew it, and no debating was needed. He passed very peacefully in a comfortable special room at the AACC, and Dr. Kaufeld gave him a kiss. The AACC contracts with a company for cremation services for a very reasonable price, and you also get a plaque with pawprints and your pet's name. I was shocked to see the price of euthanasia plus this service, as I expected it to be double. The next day, I got a knock on my door, and AACC had sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers saying they were sorry for my loss. I almost lost it. It was such a thoughtful gesture. When the time comes, I'll use the AACC for my next cat, and I'll probably go back to seeing whichever vet is there for routine checkups, because Dr. Kaufeld is unfortunately in usually only one day per week (Thursdays and the occasional Saturday). After seeing their class acts when the going got tough, I can't imagine being without them. read more

These folks are the best vets. They have not only taken stellar care of several of my cats over the years, they were actually where I adopted one from as well. When I was looking for a new cat, but not a kitten, to keep my moody cat happy, I called around looking for one to adopt that was at least six months old. The Cat Clinic had one with an interesting story. Gloria had been brought in after someone found her on the road. She'd been hit by a car, and the person who brought her in didn't think she would make it. A few weeks later, the vets and staff at the Cat Clinic had essentially brought her back to life. The vet (Dr. Lynch) and techs are always gentle and understanding. I felt like the advice I was given was honest and for my cats and my best interest and not just to get money out of me. Today was my first experience with a Michigan vet and I am so so happy to have seen this place driving down the street. It's cat only so the stress of barking is already a huge help by being eliminated from the environment, there's toys you can buy for your stressed out kitties (like mine) and the staff was clearly all cat people. I have two cats and the vet handled them both really well, my bigger cat was too scared to move so she did the entire exam where he wanted to be which was the most considerate thing I've ever seen a doctor of any kind do(Photograph posted). I just wouldn't bring any of my cats here. My cat had bladder infection when I brought him in this clinic. They gave him antibiotics but refused to do other tests. A couple of hours after taking the antibiotics, my cat started to have breathing difficulties. I right away brought him back to the clinic, but they refused to treat him because they only had one doctor in the clinic. They suggested I take my cat to another clinic that takes walk in patients. My cat passed away on the way to other clinic. I am crushed. He was only 5, nobody here did anything to help me that day. It was such unpleasant experience with them. read more

This last visit to Ann Arbor Cat Clinic really will be my last. It was a completely different experience. Although they got me in relatively last minute, they treated me that way. The vet kept claiming we didn't have time to talk about certain issues my cat was having, although that confused me-- if I'm paying $55 for an exam/consult then don't we have time to talk about his symptoms? Also, she thought he was too hostile (he was very upset) to examine, so again, I was confused when I was slapped with the $55 exam fee-- she never touched him! Why am I paying for an exam fee when you keep saying we don't have time to talk about his symptoms AND you never gave him an exam?? And how can you give him a proper diagnosis (which of course I didn't get) if you never checked him out? I felt that the vet I saw was inexperienced. She kept looking at my cat all leary and made it clear that she wasn't going to get near him (he was hissing in the corner). A good, seasoned vet would have known that he was just completely freaked out and would have known how to calm him and handle the situation. I have never seen my cat that way-- but I guess after someone comes after him with big gloves and a towel then it makes sense. "Ann Arbor CAT Clinic" is the reason we went here ("cat!"). I've lived with cats all my life. We've had bad experiences with bringing sick cats to general vets, where large aggressive dogs made them (and us) uncomfortable. The big issue is over-charging for unnecessary or under-explained tests, lack of communication, a "sales" mentality on things like flea meds (so sorry we naively bought into that), and just an overall feeling that we were being pressured to say yes to some stuff that probably wasn't warranted. The cat was 12 years old, clearly suffering (turned out to be heart failure, natural causes), we just wanted to see if there was anything simple we could to do make him comfortable and help him. Way too much money later, we're told: there was no hope. Well.. what? Then why did we run all those tests? Why couldn't we just take him home and let him die in peace, with his family? It bothers me to this day that the cat could have died, peacefully, without all the trauma. I don't think I was given an accurate picture of the outlook. Not about to go back. I agree with the other reviews that laud the beautiful, airy facility. But the patients don't care about that--and frankly, I'm thinking that disregard goes both ways. My last visit there was a few years back. My now-wife had a darling little tabby named Stanley, and he didn't pull through. She was devastated--we both were--and she asked me to go there to settle up the final expenses. The tech at the desk took the information and went back to look for the chart. She came back with a chart for Stanley all right, but it was a different cat named Stanley. She went back to look for the right chart, and as she was walking away, I heard her grumble, "Ucch. There's too many Stanleys!" Now, sure. We all have rough days at the job. I do, and I love my job. But did it ever occur to her that this red-eyed guy at the counter might feel that there weren't quite ENOUGH Stanleys? That single sentence was enough to keep me from troubling them with my business ever again. There are just too many great vets in the area to tolerate that level of disrespect. read more

THE CAT'S MEOW (or perhaps the "cat's pajamas" for you SATC fans.) Every physician we have had there is wonderful, each in their own way. We adopted one of our now 4 cats from there and she's a sweetie. Both locations have taken care of us for regular visits, sick visits, emergencies and unfortunately, 2 passings. They are quite respectful and genuinely concerned about the animals they care for and they listen to all your questions and concerns. We have 2 chronically ill cats and I am an over-protective mommy, so they have a lot to deal with when I come in and they are always nice to me. They deal well with stressed out cats who 'fight' back and cats that aren't super happy to be there. They just love all the cats that come through their doors, so you're always in good hands with them. If you're considering adopting, it's a great place to adopt a cat from and quite often they have entire litters of kittens and full grown cats. Our cat we adopted from them was about 4 yrs. old at the time and she's a lovebug. read more

AACC was recommended to me by a colleague when I adopted my cat Bray in 2016. He's been a patient of Dr Taylor ever since, and now I always recommend AACC to friends. I wouldn't want to take him anywhere else. It doesn't hurt that they are an all-women team, which is awesome, but more importantly they are a top-notch clinic. Bray has a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as well as feline asthma, and his heart condition makes treatment tricky because he can't take regular steroids for the asthma. Dr Taylor has always gone above and beyond, from making sure I understand everything about his treatment to helping me find cheaper ways to get his *very* expensive meds. I've also gotten numerous follow up calls from her over the past couple of years, just to check on how he's doing after an appointment. She's always very patient with me, even though I am the definition of a hypochondriac cat guardian (most people take their cat to the vet once a year for vaccines, if that; I'm here on average one every 90 days). Bray has also stayed at AACC for boarding and it was a big relief to know I was leaving him in their capable hands. They are definitely on the pricey side, both for boarding and vet care, but the quality of care we've received from them has been worth it. read more

I have been bringing my cat to the clinic off of Packard for about two years now, and I absolutely adore them! They have always been so kind and caring towards me and my cat. The office is clean, the doctors are knowledgeable, and the entire staff is genuinely sweet. I've always felt welcomed there. When I first moved to Ann Arbor, I figured this would be an appropriate place to take my cat for her annual vaccines and occasional checkups, which it has been. However, I had not imagined needing to use them for an emergency situation, but when one arose, they were the first place on my mind for getting help. One day, I thought my cat had been stung by a bee, and so the clinic told me to bring her in immediately to get her checked out. After the initial exam (the sting was under her tongue!), they said they would keep her there for a few hours just to make sure everything was OK. It was a very frightening day for me, but I truly felt comforted knowing she was in their care. I know the prices may seem steep, but there are certain things in life that I don't mind paying a little more for when I know that I will receive exceptional service. read more

I am so impressed with this clinic! I am new to the Ann Arbor area and decided to bring my 11-year old tabby boy in for a check-up. It's often traumatic to take any cat to the vet, but the fact that this clinic is for cats only seems to ease a lot of the stress for cats that aren't normally around dogs (my cat loathes dogs). Dr. Mengel was so knowledgable and thorough. She answered all of our questions and concerns and gave us some helpful recommendations on food and health maintenence. We never felt rushed. 2 weeks later, we brought him back in to have some teeth extracted and a fatty tumor removed under anesthesia. We brought him in at 9am and by 12pm, Dr. Whitaker called to tell me everything went well and that he was just waking up. I was able to pick him up about 4pm. The vet techs were great in explaining post-op care instructions. They sent me home with meds to give him and a full report from his surgery, written and signed by the doctor. She even left a comment at the end of the report that read "he is a really sweet boy," which made this proud cat-mom's day! :) Excellent facility and staff! read more

Office staff are rude and do not really care about cats. i am new to the area and my cat had an urgent need, I selected AACC because of all the good reviews but I was shocked by how poorly I was talked to. Not only is their site falsely advertising they're taking new clients, they go as far as telling you well there's always google to find another vet. They aren't willing to work with you and they do not care if an animal is in need of help, I guess the best advice is to try elsewhere because that's even what their own staff will tell you lol. I chose to board my cat here for few days during a move. I have not needed to board him before and was worried that he would be stressed out from the experience. Since we were just moving from one place to another in town, I came to visit him in the middle of his stay and he seemed to be very happy. He had a large enclosure with two separate rooms connected by a little porthole. He also had a giant window to the outside... where there were lots of birds playing in a shrub by the window. He loves sitting in the window at home so I knew he probably used that window a lot. When I went in to pick him up, the person who helped me said that she had been visiting him extra times throughout the day to pet him :) He seemed very happy and relaxed. I'm sorry to write such a harsh review, but in my experience this place is a joke. I took my kitty there, because I thought "Ann Arbor Cat Clinic: Who would know cats better??" It's frustrating enough that it took two visits to properly diagnose my cat (ringworm), but, hey, it happens. I wasn't thrilled about shelling out almost 200 bucks to treat such a simple thing, but whatever. By far, the most frustrating thing has been the really poor communication between staff, resulting in total confusion every time I call about my cat. As one example, they had to run a test. Was supposed to call on Monday for results. They couldn't find the file and had to call me back. They called back and said the test was inconclusive and to call back in a few more days. Then they couldn't seem to locate me in their system. Oops, we spelled your last name wrong. Then they were ordering meds. I call to see if they're in. "The woman who ordered them is not in so I'll have to leave a note for her to call you in a couple days." Are you kidding me????!!!! Will not be going back. read more

Our first visit to this clinic was for a kitty emergency only weeks after we moved to Ann Arbor. We chose them because of a great website and convenient hours. Plus, the woman who answered the phone late on a Thursday night was kind and helpful. They were able to squeeze our cat in the next day. All of our subsequent visits have been wonderful. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. You can tell they love their jobs! They've been willing to see our cat during two emergencies and did a great job at keeping us updated on her treatment throughout the day. When we saw the vet for our cat's annual check-up, she took great care in examining the cat and making me feel comfortable. Wow I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm new to A2 area so I had to find a new vet to go regularly for my cat. I was planning to visit the vet near my house then I realized that the place is closed today. So I randomly called Ann Arbor Cat Clinic if they could schedule an appointment right away. Not only they kindly accommodated my schedule but the doctor was so kind. I've always thought that office call/exam fee is too expensive but here it was really worth every penny. Dr. Mengel spent almost 30 mins to examine my cat and explained all my questions thoroughly. I could see that she really cares about the cat as if it's her own. So now I find a vet that I can rely on in A2. Yayyy. read more

After Animal Kingdom mysteriously made my cat sick, I needed a new vet. I figured a place that only dealt with cats would be okay, and I was right! The entire staff was really nice (though the vet didn't think my jokes about getting my cat's stomach stapled were too funny), and gave me some names of good places to by non-melamine tainted cat food. My cat is also obese (for reals - 16 pounds), and the vet was super-helpful when we talked about changing her diet and didn't berate me for being a horrible cat-mom. I've been taking my cats to this clinic (first in their previous location and now to their beautiful newer building) since I moved to AA as a student back in 1990. I had a diabetic cat, Siesta, whom they nursed out of a coma and into such relatively good health that I had another 3 years with him. I can't say enough about the kindness and thoroughness of their veterinarians--all women, btw, as are the vet techs. The clinic is clean, and in addition to the exam and surgery rooms, it has boarding facilities and keeps an adoption ward. Very smart move to have clear glass between lobby area and adoptions...you can see any occupants looking out at you! I always visit even when just there to pick up meds. If they take in a cat, it's either there until it's healthy and adopted out, or, if not contagious, some "unadoptables" (usually chronic health issues that most people would have a hard time tending to) end up as office cats. They also have a small retail area off the lobby for selling prescription and other Science Diet products, cat toys, bowls, and handmade items, possibly on consignment? Anyway, cool stuff. Sometimes you can find an office cat snoozing on the bags of dry food or in a cat bed on a shelf. Have to try them out to give their seal of approval, doncha know. I have had 9 different cats as their patients over the last 18 years; inevitably, several have needed to be euthanized due to terminal illness. I never felt rushed into the decision and all the vets have stressed considering the cats' quality of life as the basis on which to make the decision as to when it is time. Just two days ago, one of the vets came to my apartment to euthanize MissKitty who had lost considerable weight and had an inoperable tumor. It costs more than an office visit for the same thing, and they may not be able to do it all the time, but they knew Missy was very shy of the crate and the vet's office and they didn't want to stress her out any more than necessary. This way, she got to be home with us and her "kids" before she had to leave us. I can't thank them enough. I have recommended these vets to my friends for almost 20 years. I am even house hunting with proximity to the clinic in mind! I trust them with my cats' lives and with their passing. I can't think of any higher accolade. read more

We have been very pleased with our experiences here. We went to get a second opinion about our cat's allergies and Dr. mengel was very helpful/knowledgeable and also identified another health issue that had been missed by previous check ups. She was very thorough. We are still working on figuring out the allergy issue and have had to call several times for updates/med changes. Everyone who works there has been extremely friendly, professional, and helpful and we have truly appreciated Dr. Mengel's attention and support through this process. read more

For over 20 years I have been taking my cats to the Ann Arbor Cat Clinic,they had always treated me and my pets with wonderful care and love. But this past year has been the worst experience I could imagine. I don't know if it was a change of staff, or just new management, but I recommend you you find some place else. The love that would radiate around the Cat Clinic just isn't there anymore. The doctors wouldn't answer my questions directly, and just seemed to pass me off. If I didn't have another prescription to refill I would never walk in this building again. For the sake of your cats, and your wallet, you shouldn't either... first of all I've never met a staff that seemed so stuck up (for entertainment you can even listen in on "office drama" while you sit in the waiting room). The rudest of all was a vet. assistant named Anita. When describing procedures she was incredibly condescending and seemed upset when i asked her questions regarding my cat's health. Secondly, their products are WAY overpriced. They offer an item called "Feliway" for $30, while anywhere else you can order them for $10 a piece. This goes for their treats, toys, beds, food, pill pockets, and anything else they sell. Upon my first visit nearly 4 years ago I took my kitten in to get neutered and was told word for word "we're more expensive but we'll do a better job than the humane society". My first thought was "do you think they're going to forget a testicle or something?" but shrugged it off and kept my appointment. Lastly, they declaw. No reputable veterinarian declaws (at least without informing the owner of the repercussions) . When I went to pick up my cat there were two cats in the back room with a fever of 105 (which I'm not sure if the "doctors" are aware but that can lead to permanent brain damage), and this was all because of a declaw surgery that one of their "highest qualified" veterinarians preformed. read more

I've gone to AACC since 2000 and can't say that I've had a bad experience like many of the other posters. My wait time to check-out has always been reasonable (ranging from a wait time of 0 to 5 or so minutes). There used to be a vet there that I didn't click with (nothing I can put my finger on), but my more recent visits have been phenomenal. I highly recommend requesting Dr. Avery and Dr. Taylor. The staff have worked with me on billing issues I had for an emergency series of costly visits. Without going into the details of the situation, they bent over backwards to accomodate me and my kitty. I cannot express how much I appreciated their understanding. I became a loyal customer in 2003 when my first cat Clyde became terminally ill and, after testing revealed that nothing further could be done, decided that euthanizing Clyde was the kindest thing to do. The staff that day...wow, they were incredible. There I was at the age of 22, alone, and having to carry out one of the hardest decisions of my life. They treated me and Clyde so well, I'll never forget it. That level of compassion and service has continued throughout the years, with two more cats Layla and BB. My only real critique is that there are less expensive vet clinics out there... But, the way I see it is, I feel that I get a high level of service and expertise, so I'm willing to pay for that :) read more

I took my cat here as a walk-in for a flare-up of feline herpes (red, puffy eyes), and as another person mentioned, I was treated exactly that way. The receptionist could barely be bothered to check me in and the vet tech spoke to me as though my appointment was due to something I had caused my cat to experience. The veterinarian was friendly but seemed uninterested in speaking with me. Admittedly, my cat can be a menace to work with when she's scared, but the staff manhandling her had so terrified my cat that she urinated and defecated on herself (which I have never heard of a cat doing). She had been to many appointments with other vets, and I never saw her react so dramatically. The staff then proceeded to chastise me as though it was my fault she was so scared. I adopted a kitten last summer and had been bringing her to the Cat Clinic since the summer. For months my cat has suffered terrible digestive/bowel issues, and in the beginning I was hopeful and pleased with the care she received here. However, as the months went by and my cat's condition failed to improve, my hope and level of satisfaction diminished. My cat was at the clinic nearly every other month or more, and she had many different procedures. These procedures cost me a lot of money (an office visit runs $45-50 + whatever procedures they do) and did absolutely nothing for my cat. Sometimes during the office visits, the vet wouldn't even touch my cat--instead, the vet would look at her chart from across the room, appear perplexed, ask one or two questions, and then suggest another diet change or supplement (and none of these helped). During one visit, the vet began talking about my cat's urinary tract problem, and I started panicking ("She's got urinary tract problems, too?!?") until the vet realized she was thinking of another cat (perhaps looking at the chart before entering the examining room would have been useful?). While the vets and staff were nice, I began to feel skeptical about the quality of care we were receiving. I was putting a lot of money into my cat's care, but I never felt like the vets offered a solution or even a remotely vague explanation of what could be causing the problem. I appreciated that they may have been taking a less invasive approach, but I also felt at times like they were grabbing at straws. Maybe my cat's case is one that would baffle even the best vet, but I know there are blood tests that can be run to discover food allergies or biological causes of a condition such as this. I asked about these things, but the answers I received were, "Feed her this dry cat food that we sell here" (the cat food made the problem worse, by the way) or "let's give her a shot of steroids" (again, didn't work). So, for simple things I think this place might be great, but when your cat has a complicated, undiagnosed chronic issue, this place was not so great, in my opinion. I felt like I was spending a lot of money for a lot of nothing. Every time I left the clinic, I felt as if I had wasted my time and money. I have since switched vets, and in the first visit with the new vet blood was drawn to test for food allergies. I'm pleased that I may finally get some scientific data that could explain what is wrong with my cat. We brought our cats here until they were declawed but one of them got an infection or something and we wern't happy with the way it was handled. While others may have had a good experience with the AA Cat Clinic, ours was not. Our precious pet cat was overseas and became deathly ill. We had telephone reports from a local vet with all the blood test and kidney test data and went to the Clinic to see if a vet could advise us on whether the cat could be treated or should be put to sleep. This was on a Friday and all we wanted was advice as it was not possible to see the cat in person. The doctor not only refused to meet with us, but insisted on making an appointment the following Tuesday AFTER we got English-language vet reports from the Ukrainian vet faxed to us (and the appointment would cost $55, the receptionist pointed out right up front). Ignoring the fact that the vet in Ukraine had no fax, that we had the lab data in hand, and that we would have to do the translations ourselves ("unofficial"?), she simply refused to do anything else. As we were leaving, the receptionist shouted "good luck" to us, as if that would help! We then went to another vet in Ann Arbor - a very caring, compassionate woman who spent almost an hour with us, discussing the lab reports we had by phone, talking to a contact in Ukraine who gave more details, and then finally recommended treatment for us. She even refused our offer to pay, although we were finally able to prevail and gladly paid the charge - less than the AA Cat Clinic demanded up front! As it turned out, our loving pet died on Sunday, but at least his last 48 hours were more comfortable thanks to the treatment that was recommended. We will never even consider using AA Cat Clinic again. It was not only appalling to be treated in such an insensitive manner, but they seem to have put business ahead of compassion and I'll gladly pay a premium for compassion any day. read more
