I definitely recommend AA Hardwoods, not only for floors but for trim, baseboard and casing related refinishing. We hired Michael and his team a few years back to refinish original oak floors as well as original baseboards and window casings in my 1930s house. I have actually never written a Yelp review, but their work was so impressive I wanted to make sure to do so at the end of the project. 3 years later, I was reminded. We had original baseboards that were painted and very damaged window casings. Michael was great about setting realistic expectations, given that the pieces had been in place for 85 years. He warned that some pieces might break or not be salvageable. But he was amazingly careful and saved I think all of the original parts with some small exceptions. The casings and baseboards look awesome (as do the hardwoods). At one point when one of Michael's staff was putting the trim in, I noticed that one of the pieces was out of order. Michael came and corrected the situation quickly and with no problem. They did spend more time on the project than originally expected, and so were over budget by a bit. Michael worked with us on the overages and was more than fair. We're hoping to work with them again soon! read more

We needed a company to refinish hardwood floors in our new Ann Arbor home, and were looking for a black/espresso finish to match our stairway. Michael was prompt, honest and professional during the consultation, and was competitively-priced. Then, he even agreed to give an estimate for painting our kitchen cabinets--which we eventually decided to do as well. We could not be more pleased with the end results. Both the floors and cabinets look INCREDIBLE! The guys on the crew were clean, courteous and friendly. They stuck to the time estimate, and kept us updated throughout. They even followed up after the job and dropped off some professional cleaning supplies! We are picky professionals, and have used different flooring/contractors in the past. I can say without hesitation that Ann Arbor Hardwoods is the only place to go when you need work on your floors or cabinets. A+ rating from two very, very satisfied customers. read more

I would rate this company higher if I could (6 out of 5 stars :)). From start to finish, the level of professionalism is unmatched. The owner, Michael, came to personally do the measurements and quotes. Every detail was itemized and displayed in drawings given to us. Start of Project was on-time. The knowledge and capability of the foreman and crew were exceptional. Most days, they let us know where they were at in the project and what is upcoming. We ran into one hiccup but was simply a communication break-down some place. But, like a great professional, they handled the situation with flexibility and understanding and we were able to come to a compromise. Compared to other places, they gave us a cheaper project quote but gave us at least with the same level of care and quality as you would expect from the higher priced quotes if not better! AA Hardwoods did an amazing job refinishing the original oak floor in our home. I had previously done a "homeowner DIY" refinishing job on the floor in one room, so I thought I knew what was possible. Boy, was I wrong! They sanded and stained the floor (including the area I had attempted previously) and it looks like a new floor. Truly, I had no idea it could look this good. Their attention to detail was fantastic, they even noticed and repaired some splits and gouges in the wood that I had not even noticed before. The "dustless" system was incredible (MUCH less mess than my own experience with a drum sander!). They even worked with me to help match the new color to a different prefinished oak flooring that we had newly installed in an adjacent room. Absolutely awesome company to deal with! They completely refinished my wood floors and they look amazing. Michael (the owner) himself came out to quote the job and walked me through the entire process. Nicole (his wife) handled all the booking details of the project and was extremely knowledgeable herself about the whole process. She gave me a lot of great tips about color selection and care of my new floors. The crew that actually did the work were friendly, great communicators, professional and just great guys. Michael and his team were extremely professional and personable, when we hired them to resurface our hardwoods in a small first floor room. I was impressed with the quality of their work and their willingness to discuss options with us. Even after we decided to install our own hardwoods in another room, Michael took 10 minutes of his time to walk through the room with us, share some best practices and make recommendations. Michael, the owner, was prompt on our appointment and gave a very thorough estimate. He explained the re-finishing process in an easy to understand way and was very professional. His employees showed up on time each day, did a wonderful job and were very "gentle" with our newly painted walls. Michael and his team refinished our entire 1st floor (~ 1900 sq ft) of oak flooring. Excellent job, great guys to work with. Took great care in moving furniture and appliances from room to room. Checked back several times to ensure we were satisfied with the work, and even returned several months later to do some touch-up finishing after the owner caused an issue that was no fault of Ann Arbor Hardwoods.
