Javier was really friendly and helped me out by saving one of my favorite bags that I bought in Germany!! I have had that bag for 10 years (it turns into a backpack which is why I love it so much)!! The leather handles were completely shredded and needed to be replaced. Javier replaced it for $25 and finished it at the end of the week (I came in on a Monday and it was finished on a Friday and ready for pick up)! Great price and great timing! I highly recommend Ann Arbor Shoe Repair ~ I'll be a customer for life! I am so grateful that Javier was able to save my favorite pair of huarache sandals, which had started separating from the sole and had developed a crack in the bottom. I had previously taken them to another repair shop in Ann Arbor and was told they couldn't be fixed. Since the manufacturer no longer makes this style, replacing them wasn't really an option. Even the current version costs around $125. Javier repaired them beautifully in less than a week, and the cost was less than half the price of buying a new pair. I love my pair of women's combat boots. After a few years, they really needed help - new soles, new heels, reconnect them to the shoe, new extra-long shoelaces. Then clean, condition, polish, and buff to a true shine. I took them to A2 Shoe Repair where they did an outstanding job! (They had fixed two other pairs of shoes for me last year.) The boots look good as new. I can stand straighter now that the heels and soles are flat again. I don't have to go shopping to replace them. And the cost is always very reasonable. I wish I had thought to come here sooner, this place is worth every penny! I had a pair of boots that I loved, but whose heels had gotten worn down. I didn't want to get rid of them - they were otherwise still in great shape, they were nicely worn in, and they were so comfortable. So I looked for show repair and found this place. I took my boots in one day after work, and the owner explained that he could replace the heel pads (less expensive) or the entire caps. I decided on the entire caps and left them there. I also showed him the booties that I was wearing, and he said he could do heel pads for them as well. True story - I left the booties I had been wearing with him right then. I had a pair of "fast flats" in my car for years that occasionally came in handy (change into for driving when I had been wearing heels, etc). That day was one such occasion that they came in handy, so I could leave my booties there. On the appointed day, I picked up both pairs of shoes. They both looked brand new! I'm looking forward to many more miles of walking in both pairs of shoes now that they have gotten a bit more life in them. read more

I am so thankful for the skillful and thoughtful repair of several older items I needed to revamp. I visited here last year and the polish lasted a long time and so this cobbler was my first choice. If you read the other reviews apparently a new owner has taken over the business. I came in on Thursday at 6pm and wanted two boots cleaned and polished for the coming fall and to have one pair of pre-cut insoles which I purchased outside to be glued to the boot so they don't slip. Since, I was getting some errands done inside Briarwood Mall, I asked if he could get them done in 1 hour which he said he could. I prepaid $20 for two shoes and he didn't charge me for gluing the insoles. When I came back, I was pleased with the appearance and that he laced them up again. He also cautioned me to wait a bit for the glue to set in. He put both shoes in a brown paper bag with one pair in a clear bag as not to make smear marks on the other shoe. The insole is very stable. In summary: good speed, good attention to detail, going the extra mile, and bags for the shoes. read more

I was a regular customer at Ann Arbor Shoe Repair's old location on Main Street. Jesus now owns this repair shop and I am beyond thrilled. He runs a quality operation and is ON PREMISES. Not an absentee owner letting his minions do all the dirty work! The quality of work is exemplary, the turnaround times reasonable, and the prices are fair. What more can you ask for? (Actually, not much) A2 Shoe Repair fixes more than just shoes. They have fixed my luggage (several times), and just today, my son's saxophone case that he beats on LIKE A DRUM! The quality of work has been very high and has given my things new leases on life. He has repaired several things for me. They include fixing a strap for my foot brace that the manufacturer had put on a cheap one, a handbag that the zipper had broken, and attached clips to my dress shoes that I can now wear with my brace. I usually don't feel compelled to write reviews. However, the service I have received here over the past few years has been a rare exception. I have trusted the owner with many pricey items and am always surprised by how well he cleans/repairs them. I am rough on my shoes but I can always trust the owner to restore them for me. His prices are beyond reasonable and he always accommodates a reasonable timeframe. Having such a reliable cobbler in town is extremely valuable and a great way to move away from disposable fashion to a more sustainable form of consumerism. Big fan, highly recommend. read more

**FYI** lots of negative reviews for this place in the past, please note that they are from (or for...) the prior owners. The business has changed hands pretty recently, the lady that used to run the front end is gone, the new owner is Jesus... Anyway, I believe this place used to be the Town Cobbler, and was a couple of doors down from its current location in Briarwood Mall. A lot of people don't seem to be fans of the old owners, but they always did good repair work and were friendly to me. On to the new owner, Jesus Valdez. He is friendly, professional, and does great work at very affordable prices. I have tried at least 1/2 dozen shoe repair places around A2, Canton / Plymouth, etc. This place under its new owner is by far the best I have found both for quality and price; if your shoes can be saved, and not all can lol, he can do it at a good price. read more

The heels to my riding boots had a wrapping of leather around them, to cover the ugly material of the sole base. When this started unraveling and pulling away, I took them to Park Shoe Repair in downtown A2. They told me that the entire heel on both boots needed to be replaced in order to fix the leather. No no, just replace the leather. Nope, wouldn't touch them unless they could replace the entire heel, at $75 total. I left, and happened to stumble upon this gem in the mall. Without explaining my past experience, they suggested that they stain a fresh piece of leather and re-wrap both heels. Picked them up today, and the boots look brand new, at a fraction of the cost. I brought in a pair of leather booties that had a broken zipper and were pretty worn and scuffed in places. For only $17 they repaired the zipper and made my boots look brand spanking new! They were available for pickup the same day (about 5 hours later) and I was pleasantly surprised with how well they were able to polish and shine my shoes to get them looking new again. My husband's barely worn Merrell boots started to split at the seam and were out of warranty. We took them here, and Jesus reinforced the seam for only $10. Now they're good as new! He also did an amazing job re-heeling my favorite leather boots. I had worn them all the way down to the heel itself, and he fixed the damage to the heel and added a thick heel tip to protect them further. Reasonably priced and excellent results. Jesus asked for a week to do both pairs, so it's not immediate turn around, but the results are worth the wait. read more

I'm going to leave this review simple. They charged me $40 for replacing a zipper on my expensive vintage bag because they told me the rubber bottom would not fit in their machine and they were going to have to pick out what was there by hand and then do at least half the repair stitching by hand. The pictures I am attaching to this review are how I received the bag back - and yes those are gouges from the rubber being shoved in the machine anyhow. No, they did not take out a single stitch by hand, they thought they could just line the machine up on top of what was there already and go over the top of it. I called the shop, the clerk told me to contact the manager/owner - I emailed them online, did not hear back for 2 weeks, and so then I did a charge back through my credit union. Based on the pictures they had no problem reversing this charge. It would cost me at least $100 to replace that bag as it was when I brought it in before they ruined it. They should really be ashamed of themselves for the quality of work here. That's all I have to say on the matter. Oh, also -yes. that is how I received it back at pickup with a big animal hair woven into the repair stitching. The zipper needed to be replaced because there was a small tear in the fabric of it....I could have done a better repair job myself here with scissors and a damn glue gun. read more

I am thrilled I found Jesus Valdez again. He is the excellent cobbler that had his shop in South Main Market. Now you can find him in Briarwood across from H & M. My shoes, boots, purses, luggage are like new when I pick them up. (and I have had all of these repaired by Jesus over the years). Even better is the price. Very reasonable for the excellent workmanship. I just picked up a pair of booties that I thought I would have to throw out because the heels were so run down. But Jesus said he could repair them and voilà! - he was right - again a pair like new! read more

I brought in a pair of suede boots to get repaired, but when I picked them up they had been polished to the point where they looked like leather. I mentioned this and asked if they could be returned to the original look, but they refused to acknowledge that my boots had originally been suede and that they messed up in fixing them. I would have understood if they had just owned up to this mistake, but they refused to acknowledge this and instead insisted that I must have been the one that forgot what my shoes had originally looked like. Furthermore, they did not offer any apology or discount even though I was extremely dissatisfied. I would not recommend due to this poor customer service and the fact that one of my favorite pairs of shoes got ruined. read more

This yelp page is outdated. The Town Cobbler is closed. Now the cobbler shop in Briarwood Mall is A^2 Shoe Repair (it is a store before where the Town Cobber used to be, right next to the entrance). This review is for the A^2 Shoe repair, run by Jesus. This man is the real deal, and his prices are fair and honest. I went in with a worn down leather sole shoe, and I came out with a shoe with brand new leather sole, brand new wood heel, brand new sole protector, and the rubber heel over the wood. This sole, is BETTER than the original. Everything looks like it was meant to be there, and it was entirely hand made by Jesus. If the shoes would have came with these soles, they would have been more expensive. A++ read more

Jesus has saved many of my soles & repair many items for me!!! I estimate Jesus has saved me hundreds of dollars!!! I had been purchasing a K-Swiss Mid Upper shoe for 25 - 30 years. K-Swiss discontinued the shoe in the past 5 - 10 years. I searched over the U.S.& Canada to find a shoe repair store that could resole my shoe. Thanks, to Jesus, I found A2 Shoe Repair in the backyard of the Big House and not to far from my Small House that could resole my shoes. This place has changed ownership!! It is almost unfair that the old yelp reviews remain because they are not representative of this new shop. (Note: i have never been to this store under the old ownership.) The Town Cobbler is now run by Jesus Valdez (google him for Ann Arbor to find out more) who used to run his cobbler store on Main Street. Jesus and his staff are super friendly and even more importantly they do amazing work. I have been going to their business on Main Street for the last three years ever since i moved to town (sent by yelp at the time and friends who also recommended independently). My heart sank when we drove up to an empty storefront a couple weeks ago but i was not surprised to find they had moved. Their shop was always rocking, always busy, and they have now moved into bigger space. I really hope this works out for them. I am convinced many of their old customers will keep coming for them even though they have moved away from downtown. And i wish them that they will win many more customers who frequent the mall. This is the place where i will keep bringing all my shoes to fix and to prepare them for and take care of them after winter. They have fixed broken shoes for our family plenty of times, always to great satisfaction. On top of that, we have increasingly started to bring other items. They have repaired and further improved a beloved bag of my partner by adding more pocket accessories. They just took care of an old leather coat for me that i have had for about 20 years, fixing pockets, a ripped sleeve, and reinforcing seams. It looks like new! Plus, their prices are absolutely fair and they do their job fast. I love this business because it helps me increase the live span of my foot wear and many other item such as cloths and bags.
