I brought in a pair of Italian hiking boots in to get the midsole repaired, and the treads replaced while I was at it. The repair guy assured me that they could do it, for $140. When I picked them up he said they didn't know how to fix the midsole problem, but they did replace the treads. The next day, while walking in the boots, the tread pulled away from the heel; the glue had failed. I returned and the repair guy said the owner would call me. He never did. A week later someone called to say the boots were "ready." When I picked them up the midsole still wasn't fixed and the treads were glued on in a really amateurish-looking, slap-dash way. I told the repair guy I wasn't happy with the work and he gave me a "Why would I care whether you're happy about the work?" look. He didn't offer a full or even partial refund, and my boots are pretty much ruined. Obviously I can't recommend a merchant that doesn't stand by their work, and seemingly doesn't even know how to do their work. read more

I've been in here at least twice. I got a cap replaced on a pair of heels, some boot heels fixed, etc. Nothing major. Both times reasonably priced - a little more expensive than the place at the mall nearby, but good quality, quick service, and close to me. What I appreciate more than what they did do for me is what they didn't. I took a pair of heels in recently that literally snapped in half to get fixed. Rather than telling me he could fix it, then charging me $120 bucks after the fact (because they'd have to redo both shoes to match), he told me it's really not worth it. So much respect for a small business that is actually truthful to its customers and doesn't just try to make a sale. So appreciative of them! read more

I have been going to this location for several years now. As the only downtown shoe repair, I'm surprised that it isn't busier although there is usually at least one other person when I arrive. I love that they have given me a couple of free services like punching an extra hole in my belt and summer sandal so they buckled smaller. Typically I've paid modest to more for sole repairs, purse bag handle re-stitching, and polishing. Most recently I brought in my daughter's favorite leather boot to be re-stitched at the ankle seam about 2 inches across where it had come undone. They quoted me $10 on the spot and added $10 more dollars when I requested a polish to remove the scuffs around the toe for a grand total of $20. It's hard to say if this is pricey or not as I haven't been to any other shoe repair since Meijer's had one in their Carpenter Road store. But considering the boots cost $100+ new it's a good investment. The woman taking my order was neither friendly nor was she rude. Just enough to get her job done. Parking can be an issue so plan to allow enough time for this. Worth trying. Much less expensive to get shoes repaired than to purchase new! 4 stars only because service could be friendlier. read more

Park Shoe Repair offered great service at a fair price and with a really fast turnaround. I purchased a pair of Doc Martens boots that were killing my right foot. I figured out that they hurt my foot do to the leather of the tongue extending a few cm into the boot, rubbing the top of my foot. I brought my boots to Park Shoe Repair and the team explained how to do the repair the *right* way: open the seam at the bottom of the tongue, pull through the leather, trim it, and then sew the seam closed. I dropped the boots off on 12/22/2016, fully expecting to get them back after January 1st. I was thrilled to get a call on 12/23 that they were ready and that the price would be exactly as estimated. According to my FitBit, I've walked 267 miles in these boots since Park Shoe Repair finished work on them. I always tend to buy vintage or otherwise cheap shoes that I'm not too motivated to fix. When they break, they end up sitting in a bag for months until I get around to taking them to be repaired. It had been awhile and I had a GIANT plastic bag of pumps, loafers, boots, etc. that all needed a little love. It was time to make the journey to the shoe repair, and I knew just the place to go. I was a little worried when I showed up and the little older lady and her tiny dogs were nowhere to be seen. She's almost an Ann Arbor institution! I learned that she had just retired the previous week, selling the business to new owners. I debated turning around and searching for a shoe shop with a similarly eccentric owner, but reasoned with myself that little dogs do NOT automatically equal better shoe repair. I'm glad that I decided to drop my bundle-o-footwear off here. I think that the new proprietors are still getting their process down (they forgot to call me as they'd promised when my order was done), but I'll excuse that as a minor hiccup of the transition in ownership. The important thing? They managed to fix *all* of my plethora of shoes -- even then ones that I thought were beyond saving. The pricing seemed reasonable, and the fellow working the desk was funny and down to earth. I still miss the sight of the little dogs sleeping in the window, but I'll get over it. I try to frequent local shops owned by small business owners and Park Shoe is just that. Located in Kerrytown in Ann Arbor, Park Shoe Repair is a small storefront that does a great job. I took in a pair of black stiletto high heels that needed the heels replaced, they not only replaced the heels but also fixed the tips and gave the shoes a nice little shoe shine. The price? 12 dollars. Yes, you do have the pay up front, but this was no different from College shoe repair, which has since gone out of business. But they've always been honest with me and let me know when a pair was past salvaging. read more

After giving them my business three times over the past year, I won't be returning to Park Shoe Repair. When I brought in some boots to be resoled, I bought a more expensive sole per their recommendation. Anything to help the boots last longer. Within a week of walking on the new soles and heels, the heel of the boot fell off. When I brought them back and explained that the heel had come off during a walk, the employees seemed flustered, asked if I had the heel (I didn't--it got lost outside when it fell off), offered a judgmental remark about how the screws holding the heel were now bent (...because the heel had fallen off and I had to continue walking on broken boots down the sidewalk for the next several minutes), and ultimately made the repair for free. The boots held up after that. We returned to Park Shoe Repair one more time when my wife purchased some vintage shoes where one needed the sole and heel reglued. The younger man at the counter was very nice and took both shoes. He explained that if one came unglued, the other probably would as well. He then pulled slightly at the sole, which began to tear off. He then reconfirmed saying something along the lines of: "Yeah, we'll do them both." I paid up front, picked them up at the end of the week, had another friendly exchange at the counter, and brought both shoes home. While she was at work the next day, the sole and heel of one of the shoes came off completely. I brought them back to Park Shoe Repair, was handed a ticket, and was told I'd get a call when they were done. I then got a call about an hour later informing me that they had only originally agreed to repair one shoe when I initially dropped them off. When I explained that an employee told me he'd reglue both shoes and had in fact partially peeled off the sole of the now-broken shoe in front of me, I heard this exchange: Woman, talking to her coworker: "This guy says you told him you'd fix both shoes." Man in the background, sounding exhausted and angry: "Whatever." I asked if they wanted me to pay for them to repair the shoe. I was told yes, they would like to be paid more money for the repair. I said OK, and when I picked them up, I gave them another $20. They held up after that. I never raised my voice with the employees of Park Shoe Repair, accused them of shoddy work, or expressed anger in either frustrating situation. I have been treated like a nuisance at best and a liar at worst. I am sure this Yelp review will be met with the owner calling me a liar again, which seems to be common protocol when someone says something critical on this Yelp page. I had a purse from Greece that my sister had given me that was missing the clasp one day, and I was so devastated. I came here to ask if they could fix it for me, and they said they would do their best. I did think it was pricey -- they charged me $30 -- but upon picking up the bag today, I thought I was going to cry. It was PERFECT. The woman matched the leather perfectly and the bag looks the same as it did. The attention to detail was amazing and I am so, so happy to have found a place close to me that was able to do this. I will be coming back here if I need any things repaired. I also want to mention that they were very fast too -- the day after I dropped the bag off, they called me and let me know it was ready! Do not be fooled. This place is NOT the same. Kay (the magic shoe lady) is gone and none of her magic lingers on. I brought in a pair of boots that needed to be glued (the glue holding the rubber sole to the leather peeled off). The new lady was brusque and I was told that the boots might not be repairable, but she took my money anyway (Kay never asked you to pre-pay). I was a little worried but figured if she couldn't fix 'em I would get my money back. After a few days I picked up my boots. Unlike Kay, who would show me what she did while giving me a detailed explanation, I was simply handed a paper bag then the lady walked away. I took my boots out of the bag, set them on the counter and checked them out. The glue job looked okay, so I put them back in the bag and left. Back at the ranch, things weren't quite what they seemed. I tried on my boots, the left one was fine but the right one---OWWWW. The right boot is totally screwed up. It seems that instead of simply gluing rubber to leather they bunched up something inside the shoe...I have no idea but the right boot is UNWEARABLE because there is this HUGE knot that jabs into the ball of my foot. There is no way I can walk around town in these! I'm going to bring my boots somewhere else to see if they can fix the "fix." Sigh. Well, after I finally drove around the block twice, I finally found a place to park. I'm sure if I lived here, I would have known where to park, so let me say that! The owners are so customer focused & great to work with. I brought my daughters heels here to get new heels. The ones asked if I'd like her shoes cleaned also. I told him I needed them by the end of the day. He said they'd be done in one hour. He went t start working on the shoes while his wife cashed me out. When I didn't have change to give her because I put my last two quarters in the parking meter, she said since I as only running in and out a nickel in the letter would suffice since it would give me ~12 minutes. Brought 2 pairs of shoes to Park shoe for repair: basic black heels in need of a simple cap on the heel, and my favorite favorite brown leather riding boots. I'm a serious heel grinder, so I was afraid of the verdict on how fixable the boot heels would be, since not only the sole but 1/3 of the wooden heel had been ground away on my daily concrete sidewalk commutes to and from work. The woman working at the counter told me that they could fix them, and had me pre-pay which I agree is a bit strange. Who pays for a service before the getting the service? I felt a little weird but hoped for the best. Admittedly, she wasn't the most friendly or helpful person; she didn't explain what they would do to my shoes, just took them in the back, charged me $30 (not bad really for 2 pairs of shoes and a total heel re-do and a heel cap) and told me they'd be ready on Friday. I picked them up today and was pretty happy with the result. The black heels have new caps and look great. The boots worked out, too. New wood and new lug soles. They did go over the wooden heels with a darker paint/stain than they originally were which isn't the best, but I guess they had to do something to make the new part blend seamlessly with the old, so it's okay. They look normal/new regardless, and I have my favorite boots back just in time for fall. All is well. read more

I ran around the streets of Manhattan in a great pair of Bally's pumps that I got second hand. After my NYC adventures, I found I had worn my new loves down to the quick. The heels were tore up from the floor up. The tip was missing and part of the heel was torn. I brought it to Park's and she worked her miracle. My heels are now looking fabulouos and fully functional. Best thing about it? They look better than when I found them at the Salvation Army. What's great is that she's honest. I live in Adrian and have a great shoe repair place but being I work in Ann Arbor I thought I would try to find one near where I work for convenience. I expected higher prices than my small town but it was just ridiculous. 28 dollars to fix one heel of a pair of block heel boots, they had only been worn once it was just the little rubber on the bottom. They went on to explain how they can't just repair the thin rubber part that came off they need to replace the entire heel and its much more difficult than it looks. When I declined she then told me "well I may want to see how much it would be to buy new boots" with a bit of a tone. So I took them to my repair guy and 7 dollars later he replaced the thin rubber part (while I waited) so clearly her story on how it was so difficult was just a story to justify the outrageous price. read more

Average (3 star) job with 1 star taken off for long wait time and 1 star taken off for high prices. ~ I wanted to get a rubber sole cemented on top of the existing leather sole (a process known as "topy-ing") on my Allen Edmonds since Michigan weather can get pretty nasty. So, I looked up different cobblers in the Ann Arbor area, and there were only 2 -- this place and another with 2.5 (at the time) stars on yelp. As a result, this place was my only option. So I requested a yelp quote of cementing a rubber sole on my leather shoes, to which the owner responded "price starts at $20/ shoe to reglue the whole sole." Since my friend had gotten his pair of Saint Laurent Paris boots topied back in northern New Jersey for $40, I assumed the price should be around $40, too. After all, he went to a local business that is only a 20-minute bus ride from NYC. When I arrived at this business, I saw that it advertised professional work done on Allen Edmond and Alden shoes, 2 high-quality, U.S. heritage brands. At first, when I got in, I had to wait at least 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge me since no one was in the front of the store or at the desk. I honestly thought no one was present. Then I described the exact job of topy-ing that I wanted. Since my shoes already had a rubber heel topied on (with some heel drag), I asked how much it would be for just the toe. To my surprise, they had told me that it would be $28 for each part that they cemented on. Because they showed me a Vibram-branded toe piece, I asked if that price changed depending on the quality of material they used. They responded that it did not. Since this was the only business in the area that seemed to have good reviews, I bit the bullet and asked for the topy-ing on both shoes for the degraded heel and the toe. The total excluding tax was $58, much greater than the $40 price my friend paid for topy-ing his $995 MSRP Jodhpur boots. This higher pricing was also not the last of my worries. After paying, I received a receipt with the latest possible pickup time. To my surprise, the latest time it would be done was 3 weeks and 3 days from the drop off date. They had then told me that if they were done sooner, they would call me. When they were finally ready, almost 2 weeks passed. For perspective, the aforementioned friend had his boots done in just 1 day in the extremely population dense northern Jersey. The only reason I can think of that caused this waiting period was that the business must own its own farm with horses, where they waited for the horse to break its leg, sent the horse to a glue factory, waited for the specific glue to return, and then finally topied my shoes. After picking up my shoes, I noticed that there was still residual glue peeking between the leather sole and the new rubber addition with pieces of rubber still not finely shaved down on the rubber. Though I have another pair of SLP patent leather derbies that need the same job, I am definitely not coming back here. With exorbitant pricing and waiting times, this business is simply not worth it. They must be aware that they are one of the only places in the area with the other one suffering from bad reviews, so they can have such a business model. Unless you absolutely need to get your shoes fixed, I would not recommend this business. Edit: In response to the owner's remarks, the biggest complaint I had was the time it took for the job to be completed. To provide another update from that same friend, he brought 4 more pairs of SLP boots with the same job of topying, which also have heel protectors, and got all 4 boots done within 24 hours for $120. If you're scaling for both time and cost, this place cannot compare. Keep in mind this job was done back in a NJ-NYC residential area, which is far more densely populated. Also, accusations that a review does not stick to facts makes me more inclined to believe the owner lives in his own bubble, where customer opinion doesn't matter. read more

They also tell you how they'll fix something so you know what's going on and if something isn't worth a fix or if you can fix it easily yourself, they'll tell you how too! I've heard the owner has changed. This place is horrible. I brought in dressy flat boots to be resoled. They put what looked like tennis shoe bottoms on with a lot of traction, which looked ridiculous. Not only was the sole inappropriate to the shoe, but it was done poorly--there were glue and rubber bits all over the leather of the shoe. When I asked about it, the owner was impatient and rude. When the job was still subpar and looked awful, I asked for my money back. The owner was increasingly rude and ripped the soles they had put on off, thus ruining my boots pretty much completely. I brought them in wearable, but needing repairs. Now they cannot be worn at all. My friend was so upset by this process, he went back and spoke with someone else. A shoe store owner from Ypsi was filling in and said he would fix them for free if the owner gave him any trouble. He said regardless, my shoes would get fixed. The owner later called and said they wouldn't work on my shoes. I'd taken my boots to Park St. Shoe Repair before, and they'd done a fine job. It was an all around terrible experience. I was not impressed by the service or the work done at this store. I asked them to fix the leather strap on my purse, which was done in a messy fashion and is now deteriorating again. I also brought in boots to be resoled. I thought it was okay at first, but when the paint started chipping off of the heel, I noticed that they had replaced the original wooden heel with a tacky plastic heel. Not happy with that look at all. The woman at the counter was also short with me and not pleasant to deal with. I would not recommend this place. read more

He resoled my boots and reconditioned my shoes for 46 bucks! One of the best prices i have ever gotten. When i picked them up, he had done a phenomenal job. The zipper on one of my boots broke, and I had previously taken them to Ann Arbor Shoe Repair on Main to have them fixed...twice. The first time they "repaired" it, the zipper broke again shortly after, and against my better judgment, I took them back to get fixed a second time. When the zipper broke for the third time, I decided to try Park Shoe Repair instead. The man here told me that the issue wasn't something that could be fixed, the whole zipper would need to be replaced. I wish someone at Ann Arbor shoe repair would have told me the same instead of just taking my money for a quick fix, because Park did an excellent job and my boot has not had any issues since. I think they are a bit pricier than other places, but with the friendly and knowledgeable staff, I'd say it's worth it. read more

I was happy to find this shoe repair because I spend a lot of money on my work shoes, I don't pay less to hurt more by any means. I'm on my feet all day and I work in the dental field. I've been buying Dansko and Sanita shoes for the last 12-15 years and they are not cheap about $105-$150 a pair. I just had a black pair of Sanitas repaired on the soles, they were worn down on the outer edges of the soles from wear and tear after 8 years! I didn't even know they could be repaired I just asked for the heck of it. I dropped them off and said take your time no rush I haven't wore them in a long time and was going to throw them in the garbage, but couldn't bring myself to do it. They called me a week later and said come pick them up they're ready! When I picked those shoes up I couldn't believe it!! The soles were like brand new and they were even polished up like I had just purchased them! I will never get rid of a pair of shoes without Todd looking at them first. I still can't believe it! I put them on and walked around in them and I can really tell the difference in how they feel when I'm walking. Todd and Debbie were very pleasant and assured me that I'd be happy with their services, which I am! Thanks again for everything. The reason why I went there was to see if they could sew my sisters shoe seem back together on a pair of shoes she had recently purchased at Meijers. She hadn't even noticed it when she bought them. I've gotten several pairs of shoes repaired there. At first, seemed to do a good job. However, they just screwed up a few pairs (I reserved these till recently after they seemingly won my trust) and they messed up..royally. The soles were cut/disfigured and I ended up stopping at my parents NYC cobbler for a repair. He commented that the work they did was hideous and probably someone was learning the machinery on my boot. AVOID THIS PLACE AND GO SOMEWHERE THAT TAKES PRIDE IN THEIR WORK. They did a great job re-heeling my Birkenstocks. Holding up well two years later, and cheaper than the Birks store across the street. The full-sole resole they did on my boots, though, was a disaster. The glue came apart within a couple of months, which really bugged me because they had charged me, like, $70 for that repair. I think they have a small student discount but you have to ask (no sign). read more

I brought in leather riding-style boots to have the heels replaced ($20) and the toes polished ($10). When I came to pick up, the new heels looked great but the toes looked like they hadn't been touched. At that point, they took about 3 minutes to polish the toes, and they looked slightly better. I'm frustrated that they almost let me leave without getting the services that I paid for, and I don't think the time or improvement was worth the $10. I would come back for heel replacement, but won't be paying for the polishing. read more
