Sadly, numerous shoe repair places run by skilled cobblers have closed over the past two decades throughout southeastern Lower Michigan. However, Rapid Shoe Fix on Pearl Street has staying power, and are committed to providing excellent customer service for many years to come. This fine business also repairs most leather goods, including attache cases, backpacks, boots, luggage, purses, satchels, shoes and other items. I recently had to attend a funeral, so my Rockport Wingtips needed a shine, and guy at the counter said it would take 10-15 minutes to complete. When he was finished, the shoes had a shine on surface that looked like two mirrors, and I could see my reflection on them. While I was at the store, I decided to buy a new leather belt. Sadly, when I was leaving the funeral home, the screws that were holding the buckle onto the belt gave way. Thankfully, I was able to keep my pants up until I arrived at home, and could change my clothes without embarrassment. That said, I took the belt back to Rapid Shoe Fix, and the man who sold it repaired the belt in a few minutes, and gave me a choice of just taking a new belt in return, with no questions asked. I plan on buying all of my shoe polish from this place in the future, as they have high-end polish from France, and other parts of the world. read more

I've been here so many times through the years that I hate to say this. I dropped off my shoes for re-soling a week ago. They said they would be done today. I came today at 10:30 am to pick them up. Store was not open. I came back again at noon and my unrepaired shoes were still on the counter, untouched where I left them a week ago. I really, really wish this place luck, but I unfortunately, have to find another shoe repair shop. Thank you for the years of service. read more

After taking my shoes three weeks ago, the called saying they could not do the job. I was informed to come out and pick up the shoes that were not repaired when I got there. There was a sign in the door that said only open Saturday and Sunday and they are not taking any more business. A half hour drive from my place to there so I've done it four times now hoping to contact them this Saturday and pick up my not repaired shoes. read more

I've been a few times to have beloved leather ware repaired or restored. Attendant was efficient assessed the purse (later a pair of shoes on another visit) asked a few questions and gave an estimated time framed for pickup. The purse - a vintage Coach handbag which needed a new strap and hardware -- was restored beautifully newly added brass hardware and all. A pair of shoes I'd brought needed a new zipper pull. This time I chatted with the attendant who turned out to be the owner and he shared a bit about himself. I noticed a picture of a place in Mexico in front counter and asked him about. He shared a short story about the place in Mexico as his birthplace and made connection to his business and home now in Ypsilanti. Terrible experience all around. I took 2 pairs of really expensive boots to be resoles here because I believe in supporting small businesses and they were completely ruined: Not only were they not ready on time, but the shoes I got back had been completely ruined. A whole piece was missing out of one and the other was completely ruined. Not to mention that the repairs looked cheap and slapped together. The owner didn't even offer to refund the cost of the "repair" let alone play for the ruined shoes. each pair cost over $500 and now are completely ruined. read more

People were friendly and I got a good value ($35 for repair of 5 shoes). Problem was, the guy made me come back TWICE because the shoes weren't done on the day he said they would be. I finally gave up and just called ahead before going back the third time after a week. There's the triangle of Cheap-Fast-Good, and you get to pick two. My boyfriend wears boots everyday, and all his pairs are high quality. The soles were worn down, and I took them to Rapid Shoe Fix for re-soling as a Christmas gift. When I got there, I was told that they didn't all need new soles, some just needed new heels. It was much cheaper than a full-resole. I was very impressed at the quality of work, and the owners honesty. He didn't take advantage of me, and will have all my business in the future. read more

I knnow this is a dying art but I cant live without this place. As you know Ive been to several places which means I had to be walking alot whether in my favorite. Black suede high heeled boots (that go with EVERYTHING)or my favorite gym shoes. My man has always come through. And another thing he sells hard to find sizes in different types of boots from cowboy to official security boots. Along with my shoes he also has fixed the strap on some of my name brand purses and backpacks. Idont know about YOU guys but I cant afford to just throw away shoes cause they ripped or the heel was worn down (my feet are EAAAAAYYYYY too big). The owner is great! I've had several pair of shoes repaired here, and am pleased with the quality of the work. He also fixed a leather LV purse strap that I'd caught on my car door, and matched the thread colors well. I had a bow that came off of my daughter's shoe, and he fixed one side, and without me asking, did a preventative repair to the other shoe to keep it from breaking as well. I found a nail(staple?) sticking out from the bottom of one of my new boots, it was at a pretty hard to reach spot so i couldn't take it out myself with pliers. I took the boot in and the lady took it to the back for a couple minutes, and my boot was safe to wear again!
