Some of the park's attractions include: * Bocce Ball Courts * Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park Trail Access * Dog Park * Fishing * Fitness Trail * Golf Course * Large Playground * Miniature Golf * Nature Trails * Paddle Boating (Duck Boats) * Picnic Pavilions * Rose Garden & Sensory and Fragrance Garden * Spray Park * Tennis & Pickleball Courts The park also connects directly to the Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park Trail via a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the canal. I've walked throughout the park and along the D&R Trail. Fitness stations are located along portions of the trail, and it's easy to create a scenic loop that passes the photogenic Stone Cottage and the spectacular Rose Garden area. The Splash Park is incredibly popular with families. On hot, sunny days, parking near the playground can be hard to find. So far, I've enjoyed the duck boats, miniature golf, fitness trail, nature trails, Rose Garden, and Splash Park. Next on my list are the bocce courts, which appear to be in excellent condition. If you're visiting the area, Colonial Park is a destination well worth your time.

Overall there are places where beginning rock climbers can go and practice the holds and climb a bolder. All in all a great experience for the family trials are marked for easy moderate and difficult. Highly recommend this hiking trail.

First of all, the hike was extremely muddy, so dress accordingly. It had been raining the prior day. The kids shoes/ pants were filthy at the end... we had them take off their shoes before getting in the car. Fortunately it was not slippery despite the incline. Speaking of the incline, it wasn't very difficult. Didn't get any complaints from the kids. The hike itself is quite interesting with the boulders, scenery etc which kept them engaged. We spent probably an hour for the round trip, with an additional half hour exploring the boulders. It has a fairly large parking lot which was convenient. Note that we did enter "Sourland Mountain" as the destination in google maps which took us to the middle of nowhere. So I'd recommend specifically adding the hiking trail as the destination.

We concentrated on the wider and paved trails and eventually looped around 1(?) of the lakes. Many of the trails are shaded which was perfect for this mid 90s day, and the park was not crowded at Most people had masks down but pulled back up as others were nearby, we did likewise. I'm going to explore more of this overlooked gem, and I think a picnic on the lake when temps moderate. Towards the back of the one lake is a few well positioned benches( others scattered around the lake too) which we found perfect for quiet conversation and butterfly watching. I also look forward to returning in other seasons as was suggested by another review.

There is beauty in leaving nature be while still protecting the wildlife. I love that it's free for the public with reservations just for Saturdays and bikes for two hours rentals at a reasonable price. We even saw a red tailed hawk up close this timewhich was really cool! We will continue to visit for years to come. Lots of people stroll through but it's great for runs too! Lots of variation between slight hills and flats. Just watch out for ticks and snake in grass in the summer.

It is well known that the use of any pesticide does not stay where it is sprayed but ruins microorganisms in the soil, runs into the water sources, and eventually to humans. There are other sustainable ways to block out invasive plants... As my child and i played in the beautiful pine trees on the hill, a go cart came by spraying. We quickly got out of there and went down the hill and over the bridge to the playground. It didn't take long for the smell to waft down to the playground. We must really educate ourselves about pesticide use because it affects everyone and everything. Where will our children play safely? The Peters Brook Greenway is a paved trail that winds through Somerville, following the course of…read moreits namesake creek. The Greenway provides pockets of greenery throughout the borough, offering a welcome respite from the bustling streets and sidewalks. When I go for strolls I enjoy being able to walk between both the Greenway and Somerville's picturesque streets, since it is integrated nicely within the street grid. The 7.1-mile trail is bounded by the Raritan River Greenway on one end, and Clarks Woods, a small nature preserve with a parking lot, on the other. Via the two greenways, you can walk or bike directly from Somerville to the nice trails and parks at Duke Farms in neighboring Hillsborough. Overall, the Peters Brook Greenway is a wonderful amenity for both residents and visitors, contributing to what makes Somerville such a unique and special place.

I have been traveling near this park for years and never knew about this nice little escape located off Harlingen Road. The kid's playground looks good and they even got a zipline for them, so I'm sure kids really enjoy it because it looks like fun. The Veterans and 911 Memorial is a great addition because it reminds us of the many innocent people who lost their lives fighting for this country or those who were just in the city working on that unforgettable day on September 11, 2001. I love being in nature and the Arboretum is the perfect place to just relax and explore while listening to the birds sing to you! We rode the paths (2x around) for about a 3.5 mile distance. In the more wooded sections we saw a family of deer from no more than 15 feet away, they watched us as we watched them crossing the path. People all had their dogs on leashes and everyone was polite/friendly. A nice scenic place to ride/walk if you want to get out of your neighborhood these days.

The fields are well maintained, with bench areas, 1 practice batting area per "dugout", lights, the larger fields have electronic scoreboards. There's a concession stand run by the local baseball league with the usual hotdogs, hamburgers (& cheeseburgers) candy, hot pretzels, etc etc. All reasonably priced. Parking is adequate (however I've never been there during a big tournament). There is also a small playground area for little ones.

Eventually the path ended to a grassy area with a sign pointing to the mansion where we found the water tower and garden area. The garden was quite nice. Loved seeing the water tower (and appreciated the signage explaining the history and inner workings). Pro tip for newbies like us: You can walk on the road or drive closer to the mansion instead of taking the woodsy path. Oh, also there are NO trashcans at this location (even for doggy doo bags, diapers, etc), so come prepared. No nearby restroom to the garden either.
