East Brunswick Baseball Managers Complex - Field 2 only has outfield seating

During baseball season, it's as busy as it can be at all times of the day. What's terrific about the field is that they all have drainage systems that help get the fields all ready for play after rainfall. Some of the "bigger" fields also have scoreboards that are fully functional and serve a great purpose, especially during the summer when travel leagues are in full form. There's also a snack bar in the middle of the complex, where the prices are fair for what you get, so if you're the type that likes to get something or you're in for a long day at the fields, it's a great place to recharge. I'd also like to take a moment to discuss Joe Niglio Field, which was named in honor of my first boss, and former next-door neighbor, who passed away after a long illness in 2006. After his passing, East Brunswick Baseball League (EBBL) wanted to do something special in commemoration for all that Joe did for the league. A lot of his contributions helped make EBBL what it is today. When the field opened in his honor in 2007, I was there for the dedication ceremony. I was also on that very same field umpiring on opening night, and I feel very honored to be given that privilege. Overall, while I spent many a-times playing and umpiring on these fields, I can truly say with nostalgia that this is a great facility for the town, and for children for all ages to use and play on.

You can hear the crack of the bat and the chatter from the dugout without straining. Baseball as it should be seen. The Delaware River runs right behind the outfield. On hot nights the breeze rolls in off the water. It cools the air, turns the place into something comfortable when the rest of New Jersey is sweating. That is not something you can engineer. That is geography being kind. Parking is easy. Five dollars. Cash only. Plentiful and close. In a world where stadium parking often feels like extortion, this is practically charity. The food is not just food. It is a catalog of local pride. Case's Pork Roll. Killarney's. Rita's Italian Water Ice. Raccoon Saloon. Alongside these sit Colbie's Southern Fried Chicken and Boomer's BBQ. If none of that calls to you there are still the old standards. Hot dogs. Pretzels. Popcorn. Nachos. The ballpark classics are covered. There is even a picnic area down the left field line for groups who want baseball and burgers in equal measure. The ballpark is easy to get to. Right on Route 29 by the riverfront. Quick access to 29, 129, I-195, and I-295. No mazes. No confusion. A night here is affordable, easy, and close to the event in every sense. Five stars.

Some of the park's attractions include: * Bocce Ball Courts * Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park Trail Access * Dog Park * Fishing * Fitness Trail * Golf Course * Large Playground * Miniature Golf * Nature Trails * Paddle Boating (Duck Boats) * Picnic Pavilions * Rose Garden & Sensory and Fragrance Garden * Spray Park * Tennis & Pickleball Courts The park also connects directly to the Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park Trail via a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the canal. I've walked throughout the park and along the D&R Trail. Fitness stations are located along portions of the trail, and it's easy to create a scenic loop that passes the photogenic Stone Cottage and the spectacular Rose Garden area. The Splash Park is incredibly popular with families. On hot, sunny days, parking near the playground can be hard to find. So far, I've enjoyed the duck boats, miniature golf, fitness trail, nature trails, Rose Garden, and Splash Park. Next on my list are the bocce courts, which appear to be in excellent condition. If you're visiting the area, Colonial Park is a destination well worth your time.
