It has got to be 10-15 yrs since I have been to Pappadeaux. It was an office get together thing and…read moreI was curious as to what has been going since my last venture there. Walking in, I was flooded with memories of older times, where I would saddle up to the bar with a mate and start into so Oysters/beer and laughs. Not much has changed, which I found comforting. We were graciously welcomed and lead over to our table. My team was there and we all ordered some drinks. It as lunch, so no beers for me today. As I almost forgot how full and simple the menu was. All sorts of stuff I forgot, including the alligator bites, which a colleague purchased, so others could try. Small knock on this, they weren't as punchy as I recall, perhaps a tad overcooked, but nonetheless, entertaining. I ordered a sweet tea.. haven't have that in a leap year or more. It was perfect! There was so much damage I wanted to do to the menu, but in the end, I settled for the Crispy Salmon and Jumbo Crab. There was no sparing the butter on this dish. Salmon, I mean I cook a great deal of Salmon, was an absolute gem. Crispy and not overcooked and the Jumbo Crab was a nice addition. It did come with a different broccolini, which was a little undercooked, but I'm really being picky here. I ate it all and left butter on the plate. A complete no-no. The ambiance was like it always has been. Busy, colourful and well appointed. Our server, was very knowledgeable about the menu and another colleagues allergy. They checked a couple times to make sure there wouldn't be any mistakes in the kitchen. That was appreciated. I found myself wishing they were closer to my next of the woods, W71/Old Bee Caves road, since it would be another place to frequent again.

The friends I went with had been there several times before and spoke highly of the experience. The appetizers consisted of oysters, Brie crostini's, and prosciutto wrapped butternut squash! I enjoyed the nicely spiced seafood gumbo, gulf fish, and a few bites of the sweet King cake. I was able to bring some leftovers home too so I could enjoy it again! The owner was there and I think he got the baby in the cake. :-) You can order additional drinks while there and we were recommended a very nice red wine that went well with the meal. I'm so glad I got a check to check it out and look forward to trying it again hopefully this year!

Supper Friends at Swoop House is an Austin institution when it comes to pop up dinners. We have…read morebeen going for many years, maybe ~9 years since our first dinner here! And we keep on coming back. It is fun, delicious and the ambiance inside the house and the gardens is optimized for enjoyment! Supper Friends offers a themed meal (usually dinners, sometimes brunch). It is normally a 5 course prefix menu that is carefully thought out. I'm particularly fond of their passed appetizers - they usually have 3 different types of delicious bites - that you can nibble on as you wait for guests to arrive and dinner to get served. There's an option to pair your meal with wines. The staff there is amazing from the wait staff, the sommelier, the chef, owner (including his family) - all very attentive and friendly! We would like to see more dinners offered. Our last dinner there was a couple of months ago and we've been waiting for the next event since! We can't wait to go back!
