An ode to the neighborhood donut spot. This spot is always friendly and the kolaches are my favorite! The donuts are solid and they'll usually give me a few donut holes. The regular donuts are light and fluffy. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of the choices. read more

Came here to grab some kolaches and donuts before a meeting and this did the trick! We got a box of a variety of savory kolaches and then a box of various sweet pastries. Everything was great and the guy working was super nice. He offered to heat up everything we ordered before we left so the food was warm when we got to our meeting. Very cute little spot and I would definitely come here again. read more

Morning craving for donut holes and a kolache. Solid spot, nothing spectacular. The Jalapeño sausage kolache I had wasn't spicy at all. Service was quick but would appreciate being greeted when entering the store early in the morning. I was the only customer in there at 10am and felt rushed out. read more

$9 for a dozen! We stopped by here to get something sweets for my meeting. Upon arrival, staff greeted us with friendliest smiles. I told him I am bringing this as a gift and make it pretty. He chose a couple dozens of pretty looking donuts and nicely placed on boxes. Since we purchased two dozens, he gave us one donuts for free to try. We split one and it was good. Sometimes it's good to bring sweets to a meeting especially that meeting us to discuss something unpleasant. People loved what we brought. read more

Not only did this place not live up to the expectations of good, fresh donuts for our group, but there was a large piece of plastic in one of them. I totally understand mistakes, but mixed with the mediocre donuts, it's not a place I'd recommend. read more

Always a pleasant experience when we walk in. The owners and their daughters all say good morning! They even accommodate for my daughter who loves their egg and cheese sandwiches! Super cute and easy place to get in and out of. Lots of great kolache options and donut options. They have a variety menu complete w breakfast tacos, burritos and croissant breakfast sandwiches. We did a variety of a couple of kolaches, donuts and a dozen donut holes. Have to say the donut holes were delicious, they are bigger than most donut holes and they are very pillowy and airy, taste like they have a buttery vanilla undertone and they were my favorite item. read more

Went to this place because of its proximity to work. The service was nice, friendly. The donuts had a nice textile but left a weird, artificial sweetener-like after taste in my mouth. The egg, potato and cheese breakfast taco was terrible! No flavor inside and the tortilla was sweet, tastes like the donuts. Do not recommend. read more

Small donut shop off Howard and Harris Ridge in the strip mall with the gas station. Their donuts are so much softer and higher quality than their corporate franchise competitors. It's a personal business and you can tell they bake with a lot of heart. No wait, they are quick to serve and customer oriented. They are open Mon to Sat 5am - 2pm and Sun 6am - 2pm. They have Kolaches, donuts, donut holes, and breakfast sandwiches. Price is 1/4 what you pay at the big shops. You can't go wrong! read more

Do you like soft, pillowy kolaches? This is the neighborhood spot for sausage kolaches. I don't know what or how they make these, but the breading on their sausage kolache is soooo soft and pillowy (like a soft dinner roll). They have other options like regular donuts, bacon/egg sandwich, sausage/egg sandwich, boudain sandwich or kolache too (I think?) and even croissant kolaches too! I'm drooling again thinking about it. My go-to is usually their jumbo jalapeno sausage kolache. Yummmmm! It's a small family owned donut shop, but don't sleep on this place! read more

So my original review still holds true to a point. However, I had to meet a friend at the Mexican place next door, so I thought I'd pop in to see if they had any donuts. Yippee!!! They did! Not a huge quantity, but a wide selection of one of each of at least 15 different varieties. I grabbed my two favorites - white frosted coconut & white frosted sprinkles. It was Mother's Day, so they also gave me a glazed donut for free. I ate that one in the car. It was yummy! I have to say the taste is better than most donut places. These are not overly sweet - even with the white frosting. These are quite delicious. The only reason I don't give full stars is because with 3 hours left in their day, the selection has been quite sparse on my visits. read more

First time coming here and was very pleased! The service is friendly and fast and the prices are very reasonable! I got two things: a strawberry cream cheese filled pastry and a strawberry iced fruity cereal donut. The strawberry cream cheese filled pastry was okay, I thought there was a lot of bread and not enough of that delicious filling. It tasted better warmed up, but I wouldn't get this one again. The strawberry iced fruity cereal donut was the star. The dough was so light and fluffy and the cereal added a nice crunch! And at 70 cents each I'll be back to try the other varieties for sure! I appreciated how neither of the donuts were overly sweet! The sweetness level was just perfect. I will be trying their kolaches next! I still stand by my 5 star review. I was driving to work this morning (I know.... my company doesn't close even for the Winter Storm of 2018) and saw that their open sign was on. I've been dieting..... but it's freezing and I had to work so I think I was worthy of a donut. I was happily greeted by the owner of the shop. I was so amazed that he was open! He said yes yes we are open. I was also greeted by an amazing array of donuts and kolaches and coffee and croissants. They had everything. That is dedication! Dedication to your customers even when you know that it could be slow due to the storm. They were fully stocked! I grabbed half a dozen donuts for myself and colleagues and a sausage kolache, which he warmed up for me. The owner is always so kind and remembers everyone that comes in! He is one of the reasons I return to Donut Empire (besides the AMAZING donuts). Shop and support local business, y'all!!! And let me tell you about these donuts. They will give Dunkin and Krispy Kreme a run for their darn money. Their glazed donuts are better (AND FRESHER) than DD & KK. That's saying a lot from me because I LOVE Dunkin Donuts. read more

This is exactly the kind of donut shop I was looking for while visiting a friend in Austin! Hole in the wall, family owned business with super friendly service. Donuts are not as good as I'm used to in the Bay Area but the price (Very cheap!) and service more than makes up for it. Definitely much better than Voodoo Doughnuts. The doughnut holes thrown into the order were a nice touch. read more

3.5/5 Was craving donuts and thought I'd stop by on a Saturday morning. Came here around 9am and was surprised by the lack of donut selection. I figured 9 am is still early, but apparently not worth restocking for them at this point. I settled on a strawberry glazed with sprinkles (there were only 2 left), blueberry cake, and raspberry filled. I got one jalapeño sausage kolache and one sausage kolache. The donuts were actually very tasty! The dough was moist and a good amount of sweetness. The blueberry cake was probably my favorite. The kolaches were only okay. Like many donut places, the bread to sausage ratio is never right-they skimp on the sausage and it's much more breading. I'd definitely get the sausage jalapeño one again, it had the perfect kick of spiciness to it. Overall, not a bad option for donuts, but wish they had a better selection. I've been here three separate times now and their donuts are by far my favorite in Austin! Yes, I've tried Krispy Kreme and Round Rock Donuts, but they pale in comparison. I love that their glazed donuts are chewy and delicious. Their cake donuts are also wonderful. I'm a fan! Not to mention how sweet and kind the folks who work there are. I have pretty high standards for doughnuts and I can respect a small business doing their thing but call a spade a spade. These are not 5 star doughnuts. They're fine, a little greasy and overpriced (I think it cost like $20 for a dozen mixed!). I honestly won't be back only because for this amount of calories, I want something really good! read more

Ever since my favorite spot Donut Taco Palace III closed; I've been going to a spot (that shall not named) on Metric & Braker. I took a drive this morning to find some decent coffee this morning and found Donut Empire. This is my new spot! The coffee wasn't burnt instant junk and the cake donut was fresh and moist like it should be. The cherry on the top was how beautifully kind and helpful the people there are. The total opposite of that other place. Stop here on your way into the city and your morning will start out right! Would give ten stars if I could. read more

This place just opened yesterday. The owner was happily handing out flyers last week and seemed very excited, so I thought I'd support his new local business and check it out. I bought a few things... -Sausage, egg, and cheese on a croissant... it was good. As you would expect. Not tiny and well priced. -Burrito with potato, egg, and cheese... as you would expect. I could have used a little mild/hot sauce. I'll have to ask if they have it next time. If they don't, I'll let them know they should. -Donuts! I bought these for my coworkers, but I had to have the vanilla with fruity pebbles on top. Yes, fruity pebbles. It was great. My coworkers liked the donuts as well. I'm not a big donut person, so I can't really compare to many other places, but I liked them. The owner and lady working were very friendly. If the customer service stays great, I will be a semi-regular for sure. read more

Our favorite donut place in Austin. The donuts are always amazing and the service is exceptional. The cake donuts are moist with a crisp edge, the traditional donuts are fluffy and they have a variety of other breakfast items to placate your non-sweet eaters. Been pumping gas at Chevron and seeing the sign "Coming Soon" for so many weeks already! But when I saw the sign "Open now" yesterday, I knew I had to give it a try. I ordered the jalapeño & cheese sausage croissants this morning. They tasted great! I'd love it more if they add more jalapeños to it though, but the croissant texture was right, and the sausage tasted good. The lady who handled my order was very nice too, she even gave me some donut holes after I paid. Will be coming back to try more! read more

They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. With two griddle cakes chocolate chip and blueberry. The griddle cakes were the star, the moon and the sun. Every bite was soft, fluffy and vanillas flavored with just the right crisp. Now I would say no matter if chocolate chip or blueberry the griddle cake will hit. The eggs were perfectly cooks, hash browns crispy and cubed. Yes cubed. The sausage patty was so yummy. The sourdough bread though was perfection. Crisped, buttered and flavorful. Take the crew order something different and share! I can't wait to go back and try the French toast. Toasty Badger is filled with nostalgia and just good vibes. Everyone was so nice, kind and genuinely in a great mood. We sat inside but if it's beautiful when you visit sit outside.

It's a small space, with only around eight tables and a tiny kitchen behind the counter. It's a bit hard to locate from outside. There's no big sign on the window indicating the restaurant's name, just a plastic A-frame sign outside the building's doors. When I got there, four of the eight tables were empty but the dirty dishes had not yet been cleared. It took close to 10 minutes for the tables to be bused. Because the kitchen is so small, I'd recommend going up to the counter to order as soon as you get there. I believe you can also place your order online using the QR code on the table, but I didn't try that method. I ordered the lox n found, a toasted croissant roll with smoked salmon, avocado, dill ricotta, arugula, onion, and capers. The menu says it also comes with a side of roasted potatoes, but mine didn't come with that. The sandwich was delicious and filling, so I definitely didn't need them, but I do feel like I didn't get what I paid for.
