We visited the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park for the first time this past Sunday when we were in Annapolis for the day. The museum is small, but it's modern and well-organized. The staff member working when we visited (his name was Howard) was really friendly and helpful. He explained about the history of the building and recommended a path through the exhibits to get the most of out of our visit. We learned about a lot about the Chesapeake - its history, the its health and recovery... We learned a lot about oysters, too. There's a fun interactive game you can play where you balance oyster harvesting and the health of the Bay that entertained us (two adults nearing 40) for a while! Then there's a small gallery with photographs of the Bay and some outdoor exhibits, too. They offer sails on a certain days as well, so check out the schedule online before you visit if that's something you're interested in. It might be small, but it's a great little museum. Definitely worth a visit on a visit or trip to Annapolis. read more

My brother was dying to show us this museum. It was a bit of a drive, but pretty nice in the end. We learned about the area and some interesting facts about how Annapolis was known for oyster exportation, as well as being the second biggest import for slavery unfortunately. Outside was beautiful! Someone was even taking bridal photos there. Definitely recommend coming here with the family! read more

A small but very good museum, very informational with a surprisingly modern and high tech approach to the subject matter. Very much worth the $7 entry fee. The employees were very talkative and friendly. We loved the photography exhibit. The main exhibit is small but enjoyed it as well. Highlights were the oyster shack with the video screen made to look like the employee is right there in the shack, and the VR boat rides. The museum is right on the water so you can walk around outside on the docks where there are additional signs, and two old fishing boats. A fun way to spend the morning before heading back home to NJ! read more

We started our day at this museum as part of our time in Eastport. It's a small museum housed in the old McNasby Oyster Company building. The inside is dedicated to the past, present and future of the local Oyster trade and waterways. Two features really stuck out with the kids. The story book was so neat. As you flipped the page the blank page would fill out with an interactive story of the area by a projector overhead. The virtual reality boat with two headsets had the kids thinking they were on a boat fishing. I think there were a couple of other scenarios you could select besides fishing. The back room had local maritime art hung on each wall and a video screen that played a quick video. The docks out back gave a great scenic view of the water. We had a nice chat with a local who was crabbing on the next dock over. The side of the building had some older small retired boats from the industry. I think they asked for a few dollars a person to look around. It's a simple place and the kids enjoyed it. Plan to spend around 30-45 mins here. read more

Neat place and neat location too! Overall I really enjoyed coming here and would hands down visit again whenever I'm in the area! There's a little beach, boat docks, docks for you to walk out and see the water and all the boats, the museum part is very small but interesting. We went on a windy day which made it kind of chilly but I'm sure on the less windy ones it's a pretty wonderful spot. I'm so envious of all the people that live in the houses nearby on the sleepy little island. I thought it was wonderful and would also recommend it! read more

A little small, but this quaint museum is worth a visit when you are in Annapolis. I enjoyed learning the history of the Chesapeake and seeing the visuals on how the water quality was affected over time. For our wedding weekend, we hosted a sailboat cruise on the Wilma Lee for some of our family and friends in town early. Cannot say enough good things! We had a BLAST! Captain Rick and the rest of the team were fabulous. The sailboat has a lot of history. They let us bring food and drinks on board with us. And, the activity was very affordable. Best way to see Annapolis... Highly recommend! Pro tip: They have speakers on the boat so we put together a fun playlist that had everyone on board dancing and singing along! read more

My best friend got married here just a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. This venue is amazing. The pier served as a great backdrop for all of the photos and was also a great bar area. The dining room doubled as a dance floor that was both fun and intimate. The space seemed to fit everyone but never felt so large that it lost the vibe. The staff was so accommodating, bringing snacks and drinks to the bridal suite before we were announced. All of the photos turned out amazing! I cannot rave about this place enough. read more

We took the sunset cruise aboard the restored Chesapeake Bay skipjack Wilma Lee and it was fantastic. Sailing aboard the historic Wilma Lee was enough of a treat but we were lucky to have a beautiful evening with a nice breeze to fill the sails. Captain Rick and his able crew were an added touch with informative commentary and great hospitality. read more

Annapolis Maritime Museum was the perfect place to hold our ceremony and reception. We worked closely with both Paige and Cindy, and they were wonderful throughout the process. I was a long-distance bride, so I really appreciated that they responded promptly to emails and phone calls; I always felt like they were taking the time to communicate with me even though I couldn't stop by. The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous. We did the ceremony on the back dock, cocktail hour in the museum area, and dinner/dancing in the banquet room. I had about 100 guests, and it felt extremely roomy. All of my guests commented on how beautiful it was - and I loved that it required zero décor because it was so gorgeous on its own merits. The view out the back during the ceremony was so quintessentially Annapolis without being overwhelmingly nautical - just gorgeous bay scenes, a sailboat going by every now and then. They now have a tent up over the back dock, which definitely saved me money. I don't know that I would've rented one because the weather looked great, but I definitely should've - the shade it provided on a hot summer day was invaluable. I had older guests that really appreciated it, even during a short ceremony. The cocktail hour (and later, stations for dinner) was in the museum area. This was definitely crucial to have as well - our younger guests were so entertained by playing in the boat, watching the crabs, etc, that it really freed up their parents to enjoy themselves. We kept the doors closed to the dock after the ceremony, so it was a nice place to which people could retreat if the music got too loud or they wanted to get some photos outside. We used the barge house pre-ceremony for some freshening up and as a staging area. It was really great to have that area to leave our bags / supplies and we could go back there as needed throughout the night to have a separate restroom, space away from guests, etc. I highly recommend the Maritime Museum for any event, but especially a wedding. The staff was so incredibly helpful and accommodating, especially for an out-of-town bride, and the venue was just ideal. read more

I have to take a moment to thank the awesome team at the Annapolis Maritime Museum for being such all stars both during the wedding planning process on our big day. My husband and I fell in love with the museum at our first visit with Cindy. It's just a special, super neat space. We loved the more industrial feel and it was definitely the "Annapolis", non-hotel, waterfront location that we were looking for. It was the first venue we looked at the one we compared all other site visits to. Even though the space is relatively compact space, it definitely works for a big event. We had 150 guests plus a band and sit down dinner and were able to make the number work comfortably by breaking down a few tables after dinner to give us some breather room for dancing. The newly tented deck is gorgeous. And despite the fact that it ended up snowing on our wedding day in April(!!!), we were able to bring in space heaters at the last minute and it made the space completely usable all night even with temperatures in the 30s (note: that took three industrial space heaters, rented through Absolute Party Rental who were also great!). I will admit that I was a higher maintenance bride. I think I made at least 10 visits to the museum pre-wedding and that's being conservative. The patience, kindness and partnership extended to me by Cindy and Paige was absolutely amazing. They made me feel like our day was important in the midst of the hundreds of other events and activities going on at the museum. They were such a pleasure to work with and our trust in them was well deserved. When it was all said and done, our wedding day was perfect and flawless and I couldn't thank these ladies enough for that. I would highly recommend the Annapolis Maritime Museum as a fantastic wedding venue and look forward to going to many other events there in the years to come! read more

The museum itself is very small, but interesting. The bigger draw is the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse tour, a National Historic Landmark out in the bay, that is offered only a few times a year and is fascinating! They are currently in the middle of a multiyear restoration, but you can still visit it. read more

We absolutely LOVED our experience at the Annapolis Maritime Museum for our wedding. The staff was responsive, knowledgeable, flexible, and wonderful to work with. The venue it's self was perfect for our needs. We ended up with 125 people along with a dance floor and an 8 piece band and there was plenty of room for the reception. The ceremony was a little tight, but we also had our ceremony perpendicular to the Bay Room door which looks like cuts down on seat numbers. If you're looking for a unique waterfront venue that is affordable and close to other amenities, this is it! read more

A wonderful museum that was a fabulous setting for a small wedding. The wedding was outside on the deck facing the water and the reception was inside with great acoustics and plenty of room for seating and dancing. Cocktail hour was done around the exhibits so one was able to look at the artifacts and exhibits while socializing. The staff was super helpful and very friendly. This is one of those classic gems hidden away in greater Eastport. It records the history of a very interesting town and gives a glimpse into a world that is quickly fading away. This compact museum is authentic and beautiful on the inside. Well placed displays. I was originally in the menu to give the opening lecture on fishing for the fish 4 a cure tournament. this area has a lot of Waterman heritage and it is important for locals and visitors to see how important these hard working folks are to our history here. read more

The museum itself is pretty nice to visit with lots of local history and nice displays, but the hours are short. I participated in an art show here recently. The museum wrongly scheduled the show and took it down half way through the exhibit without notice. This show was with the MD Fed of Art, who was also inconvenienced because they had to transport everyone's work, also without notice. When I dropped my work off here during the hours noted on the prospectus, the guy working had no idea what I was talking about and told me to just put my art on the floor next to a random desk, with hopes someone would know what to do with it. This didn't give me a very good feeling. Now this place has cost artists the chance of selling their work by cutting their show in half. Thanks a lot. Won't be returning, ever. read more

We recently had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. It was the perfect venue for our group of 140 guests. We especially liked the beautiful, tented deck area, where we held our ceremony and where guests could enjoy fresh air and a drink throughout the evening. The venue is also very flexible about how the exhibits in the main hall can be used and decorated, so we were really able to make the space feel personalized. Paige and Cindy were wonderful, as was Helen, who helped out on the day of the event. The pictures taken on the pier were lovely as well, and our photographer got some great shots of us at sunset along the water. I highly recommend this venue to others. read more
