I have been a patient of Dr. Thai's for almost 10 years now. Before going to Dr. Thai, I saw 2-3 different GI Doctors who didn't seem to care about my broader health, were dismissive of my questions, and were quick to push me out with a pamphlet instead of helping. It took more than a year before I was properly diagnosed and countless harsh treatments that left me sicker than when I entered. I felt completely disheartened and out of options, until I met Dr. Thai. Dr. Thai listened. When I told her I was struggling to take the 16 pills a day of steroid treatments prescribed by other doctors, she agreed that I needed another approach. When I shared I couldn't finish the colonoscopy prep, she prescribed me a new one that was easier to drink. When I told her that some medication was making my hair fall out, she switched me over to holistic and herbal medicines. The other doctors never offered me any of that. Dr. Thai even encouraged me to seek a less stressful work environment and prioritize my health. She has always been looking out for me, not just as a patient, but as a person. I never ever thought I would be without GI symptoms. Once you live with a chronic condition for so long, you forget what it's like to have relief. Note to self: don't just agree to any procedure recommended by Dr Thai ( ie camera endoscopy) . Make sure office check with your insurance and get pre-authorization if needed , and inform you if you have out of pocket. All my other providers do that . I was under the assumption it's standard procedure for medical offices to inform you first if they checked with your insurance or how much your insurance will cover the procedure. Dr Thai was one the doctors when I was in ER, and indicated in my discharge records to go to her office to take a camera endoscopy. She did not explain why it is needed, what the risk is it I don't have this procedure. . So I just followed her instruction. Surprised that when I arrived at the office, . Dr Thai was not even there. Her receptionist gave me the cam pill. I would've liked to be informed ahead of time that the "appointment" is just to pick up the cam pill, and Dr Thai will not be there. I now have an unexpected out of pocket. I do not appreciate how the office is run. For these reasons, ( lack of clear communications / transparency, I will not be a returning patient. read more

I want to see this doctor but can't get an appointment in 2 months and a week before my appointment time they cancel my appointment just because I went to see other gi doctors for emergency issue. Dr. Thai saw me during my hospitalization in February 2021 for another flare-up of my inflammatory bowel disease. I've only written one review of a doctor in my lifetime (it's on Yelp too) because it was a terrible experience, but this was the exact opposite. Having dealt with this disease for over 30 years, I've had various doctors and surgeons and Dr. Thai was really a breath of fresh air for me, as right away I felt like she was a partner in my recovery. Dr. Thai certainly knows her stuff, so to speak, and she is in my top two of all time when it comes to listening. Now she is not my regular GI (he was traveling when I became hospitalized), but if I was in need of one she would certainly be top on my list to check out. I had some routine bloodwork done and had an unexpected result, was told to see a gastroenterologist. I was originally referred to Dr Skaar, but she couldn't see me for a few months. Dr Anne Thai was in the same practice as Dr Skaar and I was able to get an appointment within a couple of weeks. On arrival I was seen very promptly. Dr Thai established an easy rapport with me right away. She is very personable and easy to talk to, and a good listener. I felt she really took her time and I was not rushed at all. She is on the younger and more progressive side, which I prefer in my doctors. She did her internship, residency and a fellowship at UC Davis Medical Center, which gives me great confidence in her knowledge, experience and practice of evidence-based care (again, my personal biases). Everything seems to be in order with me, though Dr Thai ordered a comprehensive set of additional tests to make sure. All in all, a very good first experience with her -- on time appointment, yet took her time with me and didn't rush, great bedside manner, very thorough. Highly recommend. read more

Being a generally healthy person most of my life, when I've had painful or confusing stomach issues, my other doctors and I chalked it up to overseas travel and IBS. Well, lemme tell ya, I've sucked it up most of my life, and when you are truly sick you know it and end up in the hospital! That's what happened to me right before Christmas and I was so, SO thankful to be in the good hands of the Mills Peninsula Hospital. Dr. Anne Thai was my assigned g.i. So, being drugged out, sick, dirty and just general ewwwww is not the way you want to meet your doctors for the first time. good medical care depends on both the physician and the support staff that run the office. Here is my story and you can judge for yourself. 1. my first visit with dr thai was to establish a local relationship, having moved to the bay area. I have a long history of well-managed IBS, under a prior physician's care and occasionally take a particular drug as needed on occasion for bad GI cramps. Dr Thai said she would have the Rx called into the pharmacy, and even asked me about the form of medication (tablet to swallow vs. sublingual dissolve). When i got to the pharmacy, the Rx was for a drug i had never heard of, never took, and did not discuss with the dr. I called the office and they looked at my chart and said "that's what's written here" - when i said again i have never taken this drug, did not discuss it with the dr, etc... then they said they would consult with dr thai and call in the correct medicine. This made me wonder... discussed it with the DH and then i decided to let it go. I subsequently had a colonoscopy and everything went as planned - uneventful. 2. My husband then was due for colonoscopy and went to meet dr Thai. He did his prep on sunday, and i took him in on monday to the center where dr Thai does colonoscopies. They had no record of him being scheduled for that day. After a lot of calls, and me walking over to dr Thai's office and speaking to the assistant for one of the other physicians in that office, we discovered that Dr Thai's schedule had changed, all her procedures for that day had been cancelled - except NOBODY BOTHERED TO CALL AND TELL MY HUSBAND to reschedule - so he went thru the prep (not pleasant as you all know), took a day off work, and was sitting in the waiting room shivering and hungry and SOL. (and yes, i have the date in writing from dr Thai's office - this was not our error) The folks at the colonoscopy center were extremely kind and gracious, and spoke to one of the other physicians that was there who agreed to perform the procedure. We never heard from Dr Thai's office - nothing. no reschedule attempt, no apology, nothing. read more

I just moved to the area and am going through a Crohn's flare, so I called to schedule an appointment and try to establish care. This Dr has the best reviews and was listed as one of my insurance providers. I've spoken with the receptionist twice and both times was treated rudely, as though I was inconveniencing her with needing a doctor. It's one thing to be argumentative when insisting your office doesn't take my insurance. It's another thing when I say "Okay, well thank you anyways," to be responded with a "mhm," and a phone click. The doctor may be great, who knows, but whoever is running the phone needs to pull the stick out of her ass and maybe try being a little more polite and thankful she has work at all. read more

She rushed my visit by only spending less than 5 mins. She wasn't even patient to hear about my symptoms. What a waste of my time and energy. She doesn't seem professional to me at all either... I was referred to Dr. Anne Thai by my primary physician for a colonoscopy, which I have been putting off for a few years now, but it's time I better have it done. I called Dr. Thai's office on Wednesday, May 30 in the afternoon and left a message saying the above information and left my call back number. It's Friday, June 1 and I haven't heard from them. Granted, really good doctor's offices can be busy. So I call and spoke with Rachelle (sp ?). I explained to her I had left a message on Wednesday and haven't heard back. Her response, "So would you like to make an appointment now?", with an attitude. I said, "Yes, but I would like to know more about the whole process of having a colonoscopy, since it's my first time". Her response, "Well, we give you all that information before hand", very short with me. To myself, I'm like okay, wth?! I proceed to ask, "Do I get put under general anesthesia, like what else do I need to know? It's my first time having this procedure and I'm a bit nervous about it. Is there any consultation or anything?". Her response, "(Sigh), well then, would you like to come in for an office visit?". I said, "Yes". So I'm scheduled for an office visit next week, but my colonoscopy is scheduled in August, which is fine. I proceed to ask if the procedure itself is done in her office and Rachelle says, "No, it's done at the colonoscopy clinic". I say, "Okay and where is that?". Her response, "In the same building". Geez, it's like pulling teeth here! It's one thing if you're a great doctor, but it's definitely another if you have a terrible staff! Not warm, welcoming or informative on the phone at all! I'm definitely going to let my primary doctor know I'm not happy with their service and if there is someone else I can see to have the procedure done! read more

This review is a couple of years late but I have been carrying around my praise and appreciation all this time! Whoever could think that a colonoscopy did not have to be awful and scary. After this experience with Dr. Thai i now know it can be (from patient perspective) relatively easy with yes discomfort but very manageable discomfort. I W ENT THROUGH THIS WHOLE PROCEDURE WITHOUT IV SEDATION OR PRELIMINARY PAIN MEDS BEFORE DURING AND AFTER THE PROCEDURE. All because of the exceptional skill of Dr. Thai. She combines this with extreme sensitivity to patient fears and feelings about the whole process Because of Dr. Thai I went through procedures with calm and confidence. I must tell you that also during the procedure Dr. Thai provides you with information every step of the way and is so serene and pleasant you would think she was providing you with ice-cream! I must not also forget in addition her team of nurses the day of the procedure and also the nurses in her office. They are exceptional. Last I must say t he one and only objection I have is that the patients rights are disregarded in this manner. This is not Dr. Thai's fault but the apparent protocol of the clinic, since Dr.Thai said it was okay with her. I had said that I did not want a port since I did not want IV sedation. Nonetheless it was forced on me i.e. the I "could not have the procedure without the port even though I did not want IV sedation.l"" This should definitely be changed. First class experience. Went in with some major concerns - my stomach hurt when I breathed in and I thought it could be some sort of infection. After a careful diagnosis, Dr. Thai thought it was most likely a nerve strain due to exercise. She ordered blood/lab work and an ultrasound to be sure. Both tests came back negative and the pain receded in a few days as she expected without any treatment or medication. I was concerned it could be h. pylori or other bacteria, but that was not the case. Very thorough follow up during the entire process. Highly recommend. Choose your doctors carefully - you are entrusting them with the most important asset you have, your health. read more
