The hallways and the unit itself were very clean, and the locker ended up being larger than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The only thing I noticed was that the area where my unit is located felt a bit warm, like maybe the A/C was down. Since I did opt for climate control, that gives me a little pause -- but I'm hoping it was just an off day and not the norm. All in all, solid first impression and glad to have the extra space at a good price and location!

The only problem that has frustrated both myself and Carol is the inability for the remote control gate unit to operate the entry gate. This unit has been out of operation for several months and makes it very inconvenient when trying to access the facility with a 30ft. RV. I was sold the remote unit and was very pleased with until it stopped working about a month after I purchased it. I hope that management can get this fixed soon. Wednesday morning we were at All Things Storage. Since I only rented a truck, I know nothing about their storage services. All Things Storage is in Fountain Square, and a bit farther away from my house I was packing than I had hoped. It was an older building and had no parking lot for customers. We had to parallel park on a side street. A couple of shady characters walked past, and I was sure to keep the car doors locked. A narrow bumpy alleyway full of large potholes the city have no doubt left in disrepair for years is behind the storage place. The entrance to the alley was right to the side of where we had to park. Now, it isn't All Things Storage's fault that they have a crappy alley or that U-Haul sent us this far away and charged us for a "dolly" that was actually a large skateboard, so I'm basing stars on the service given here. It took several minutes to get checked in and sent on our way with our truck. It wasn't busy, but it took twenty minutes. There were U-Hauls parked on the side road where we were parked, and that was strange enough. The truck we needed was a block away on English. The building seems to be a tight squeeze and not the best location for neither a U-Haul store nor a storage unit. I kind of felt like I was in a rundown section of Chicago that you don't want to be in even during daylight hours. Since it seemed like the trucks were awkwardly scattered on the outskirts of the property, I'm not certain where the storage facilities are or how you access them, especially if you have a U-Haul full of stuff. Now, they may very well have a great storage business. I don't know, but, just from my impression of the outside, I personally don't think I would feel safe storing things here if I had to be down here alone or with another woman sorting through my things with the unit open, but that's just me. All Things Storage also lies right next to train tracks. While I rather enjoyed seeing and hearing the train go by when we first arrived, I could see how the tracks could certainly be a potential problem for some to get in and out of this facility, especially with a U-Haul and if you're in a hurry to get on the road or to return a truck. Overall, we did get the truck we needed, and we weren't mugged, but it was just more awkward and complicated than it needed to be. I don't like that there is no private lot for customers to collect their U-HAUL. It could have been worse, so I'm going middle of the road here on stars, even though I would personally try to get a truck from another U-Haul location in the future.

I had an outside unit for the door is hard to open and it doesn't open all the way because it's a rolled door. When you load and unload you have to duck. Never had any rodent problems but the inconvenience of the door and them not answering emails or calls was frustrating. They emailed us about the rent going up without any warning. Also that there would no longer be a light outside each door. Good luck with seeing someone's the desk. I can count on one hand how many times someone had been in the office. You also have to buy your own lock and they charge for a monthly "protection" plan. You also have to give 3 month notice to vacate. I sent a letter and called, no response.

She made sure to let me know it said that in the door, which it did in fine print. Perhaps a larger sign, or maybe even locking your door, might prevent customers from walking in. She seemed legitimately annoyed that I was there. So I went across the street to Aunt Betty's where they were very nice and happy to take my money.
