This is a smaller outfit on the edge of town offering regional Indian cuisine; there are a couple of tables if one wanted to sit in. A notable reason to do that would be that they offer dosas on Saturdays, but not to go (a thin crepe tends not to travel well). I got takeout, and despite ordering on their website they did not seem to be on top of that order when I arrived. It didn't matter to me, and I would suggest that seekers of food that has that home-cooked taste would be well advised not to be overly time-sensitive. I was offered a handful of pakodas while I waited to ensure that I had something fresh to eat despite taking most of my food to go. Attention was also paid to my dietary needs, as they asked me if adding a dairy-containing raita on the side to my otherwise vegan order was okay. Their menu is not huge, the portion size is not huge for the money, but the flavor was huge. From the curry leaves sauteed onto the little side of potatoes they gave me to the rich spice mix of dal to the flaky indulgence of the paratha on the side, the experience was dynamic. Their appetizers come in bulk, but I'll have no problem finding a use for the extra onion pakodas that I vacuum sealed. This is my first time trying Indian cuisine in this town, because I haven't had much success with trying without asking for recommendations. My nail lady Jenn recommended this place and I trust her recommendations. Lol. So I walked in, and both the owner, I'm assuming, and the other lady in the kitchen said hello. I mentioned this was my first time here and they asked immediately what type of heat I liked and had me taste the sauce. He recommended a platter and I'm glad he did. I loved everything I tried. I had Chicken 65, Amma's chicken curry, and chicken biriyani. With the platter was the indian bread, Gulab Jamun, and indian yogurt. I haven't tried the last two items yet. I was so excited about another Indian restaurant opening nearby; but I was so disappointed. First of all, I just want to say that I can tell the owners have such good intentions, but they need to learn how to run a business. We ordered for pickup directly via phone (estimated time 40 min) and were told they would call when it was ready. At around 45 min, we called again to be told there was a mad rush and it would be delayed 20 minutes and again that they would call when ready. Weird that they would take priority over walk-ins than an order in progress but okay. At 20 minutes later since we didn't get a call, we figured we'd just drive over. I walked in and our order appeared to be ready, which is strange because they never called. The owner kept mistaking me for an Ubereats driver and had me bag it myself. The owner's wife saw me struggling and helped me repack it so it wouldn't spill haha. When I was about to pay, the owner stated that he was going to remake the Gobi because they got cold (which, again, weird that our food was sitting out long enough to get cold because they didn't tell us it was ready). He remade it and gave me an extra cup "for you on your drive" again thinking I was an Uber eats driver. I ended up eating some of the Gobi on the way home since it wasn't covered, and this was the highlight, though I'd still compare it to Gobi you can get elsewhere (good taste and crunch). After getting home, I had to reheat everything because it got cold from sitting. I was so disappointed with my paneer dish. The paneer texture was gritty and chewy (unlike any paneer I've ever had), and the sauce tasted like some kind of canned onion soup, not seasoned sufficiently like I expect with Indian cuisine. The rice was okay, pretty standard for a lot of places in Lynchburg. My husband was upset because there were 3, yes THREE total pieces of chicken in his chicken dish. He hated the sauce as well and usually loves butter chicken. He ended up tossing it and made another dinner at home. The naan was also distinctly the same naan as the one Kroger has pre made that you throw in the oven. Kitchen is the proper noun to describe this place as there is no place to sit and eat. This place is an oddity quite frankly in that somehow the food here is phenomenal yet the business model is an absolute train wreck. There is no labels on anything and a standard menu is constantly in flux. Also everything is absurdly expensive like think NYC prices but despite these shortcomings I believe this place has the potential to be great. One of the strengths of making Indian food affordable is to have a set amount of curries constantly cooking and simply serve with rice but instead here they have some dishes with the rice mixed in. Thus buying standard white rice is not an option. The food is phenomenal and unlike anything I've had in Lynchburg. A different style from the other Indian establishments for sure but this place really needs to get its business model straight as nothing is clear if you go there in person. If you have a place that's based entirely on carry out you need to have a system in which people can establish what they want, order, and receive their food as quickly as possible. The current business model has you searching for the menu for the first 20 minutes and waiting another 15 as things either cook or finish up. I've been to India several times and lived in neighboring Nepal for 3 years -- this food is fantastic and authentic! I wanted to try a ton of different things so we got: Aloo Boanda appetizer (crispy smooth center potato) * Dhal (lentil curry, would eat this daily) * Chicken biryani (chicken with flavored rice) Signature chicken curry (chef's mom recipe) * Shrimp curry (little bit of heat, super yummy and shrimp not over cooked) * Paneer mattar curry (usually I don't like paneer but this was the best I've ever had) Pea Palao (vegetarian flavored rice) Stir fry potato (simple but super reminiscent of India) Paratha fried bread (made fresh and if you eat in the dining room in back, ask for them to prep it for each person's plate) * * = favorites They get many of their ingredients from India and it shows. read more

When opening a new restaurant, especially in these times, it is very important to make sure the customer is super-served. The *taste* of the food was very good. I ordered Garlic Naan (not on the posted menu, $3), Butter Chicken, Goat Biryani, and Goat Chukka (which they kept verbally calling it Goat Chops - which is 3 times the price [and apparently a much larger portion... even though the goat chops were in the "One Portion" side of the menu -- they said they needed to get that corrected]). To provide some context: I am decently acquainted with Indian food (and had just eaten it the day before at a competing establishment in town). I was excited to try the new place since the existing establishment no longer has either a buffet (understandable in these times) or their thali platter with a variety of items (not that this new restaurant has such either, but I wanted to check out the competition). One of the front workers verbally interacted with us in a way that assumed we were unfamiliar with Indian food. My suggestion for him would be to either stop doing that, or to simply ask people how familiar they are with Indian food so you know if you need to explain your dishes or not. (Or, just not to assume either way and wait for people to ask questions if they have any.) I can tell he was excited about the new store (which is really good, honestly), but prejudging (not with malintent though) customers' experience is not a helpful behavior. Since they are so new, they do not have their tables and chairs yet (coming December 2021, they said), so we had to do carryout (which we were not planning for since we were meeting a couple there to eat). Not really a fault of the restaurant as much, but not the experience for which we were hoping. I started with the Garlic Naan and it was very good. The other items I was splitting with my wife (my wife got her own Garlic Naan). The container with the Butter Chicken contained a *lot* of sauce (which was good since my wife used it a couple days later to put over chicken and rice that she made - and it was very tasty). What I didn't realize when they were serving it into the container, is that there were only *four* little giblet bites of chicken in the entire container. Yes, four. Not an exaggeration. So, each of us had two very small butter chicken bites. For $8.99 this was a very steep rip off. The Goat Chukka/Chops (for which they did charge me for the lower-priced, one-portion Chukka) had a very good flavor to them, but it contained a *lot* of bones and fat that we had to carefully pick through. The result was that there was less meat to be gleaned from it than I would have expected. The Goat Biryani was pretty tasty too. Though there were some bones and fat in there too, not nearly as much and it was a decent dish. The other part of the experience that was not great was that as the lady server was packing up some flavored rice for another customer, she verbally stated that there was not much left, but enough for one order. Since the food is out front, I could also see that there was not much rice, but either enough for one order or most of an order. She went into the back (the rice stayed up front), came back out, and I asked for the remainder of rice. She said there wasn't enough for an order and that they were out. I was looking right at it. I asked if she was sure - and she repeated there wasn't enough for an order. (In my mind, as a new business, she could have either given it to me - since it was apparently not enough to charge for; or, ask if supplementing with their plain rice to fill the rest would have been fine... personally, I would have said that would be fine.) Not a negative, but something people need to be aware of... each item they sell, they sell separately. So, the Butter Chicken doesn't come with rice or naan or anything else. No combinations of any sort. *Every* item is a la carte. This is not explained on the menu either (and was a little confusing as it is the first Indian restaurant I've ever been to which doesn't offer any rice with their meat dish). And, if that's what they want to do, that's fine... but, it's an easy way to make a customer unnecessarily sour a little as it does not compare with normal restaurant experiences. Overall, the experience was sub-par. Though I am currently giving 2 stars (as a result of the taste of the food), I'm going to give them some time to work out the growing pains and try again in a couple to few months. (Of course, if everyone does this, they'll go out of business too quickly... so, I hope they read this review and make adjustments quickly.) As a new food business, even though I rated it two stars, I do encourage others to support their start up and hopefully they can course correct. I am very open to updating this review in the future based on my next experience. I wish them the best and hope they correct these service issues, because the food was tasty. read more

So, looking a the "to go" menu, we thought one really expensive "entre;" and the only moderately overpriced "entre" rice dish @ $30 or so, would be a lot for lunch but we wanted to try out this place for a meal with company next weekend, Somehow thru skillful sales technique involving tasting the buffet style offerings and side dishes that were mentioned to be "comes with" and being steered to the "Chef's Special" goat entre' the bill was over $70. The Chicken rice was ordinary, the rice dish was Ok, but not worth $13. The Chef Special Goat was over half bone pieces, (The Goat Meat was OK) The Bread was disintegrated when peeled out of the Foil. I came in with a friend expecting a simple lunch and left with a new experience! I don't know about anyone else, but I love trying new things and learning different cultures' food. When I first walked in, we both were a little confused on how it worked because it wasn't what we were expecting.
