Whoa!!! I was shocked and amazed by the quality of the food and the taste! This is my first time trying Indian cuisine in this town, because I haven't had much success with trying without asking for recommendations. My nail lady Jenn recommended this place and I trust her recommendations. Lol. So I walked in, and both the owner, I'm assuming, and the other lady in the kitchen said hello. I mentioned this was my first time here and they asked immediately what type of heat I liked and had me taste the sauce. He recommended a platter and I'm glad he did. I loved everything I tried. I had Chicken 65, Amma's chicken curry, and chicken biriyani. With the platter was the indian bread, Gulab Jamun, and indian yogurt. I haven't tried the last two items yet. But the building was clean and inviting. The food was rich, packed with flavor and just the right heat for me. I can't wait to take my family so they can enjoy the food!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants this side of the Atlantic! Even better it's in our little town of Lynchburg and Forest. The owner chefs Annie and Prince Arvind are absolutely stellar! They are genuinely warm and caring people, passionate about their cooking and love to please their clientele with the best food experience! The prices are very reasonable and the food is absolutely delicious! I 1000% HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place! Kindly say hello to the owners! Go and say hello to Prince and Annie! They food is fresh and organic. He looks for the best raw and organic materials to prepare his food and you can tell in the taste.

I was so excited about another Indian restaurant opening nearby; but I was so disappointed. First of all, I just want to say that I can tell the owners have such good intentions, but they need to learn how to run a business. We ordered for pickup directly via phone (estimated time 40 min) and were told they would call when it was ready. At around 45 min, we called again to be told there was a mad rush and it would be delayed 20 minutes and again that they would call when ready. Weird that they would take priority over walk-ins than an order in progress but okay. At 20 minutes later since we didn't get a call, we figured we'd just drive over. I walked in and our order appeared to be ready, which is strange because they never called. The owner kept mistaking me for an Ubereats driver and had me bag it myself. The owner's wife saw me struggling and helped me repack it so it wouldn't spill haha. When I was about to pay, the owner stated that he was going to remake the Gobi because they got cold (which, again, weird that our food was sitting out long enough to get cold because they didn't tell us it was ready). He remade it and gave me an extra cup "for you on your drive" again thinking I was an Uber eats driver. I ended up eating some of the Gobi on the way home since it wasn't covered, and this was the highlight, though I'd still compare it to Gobi you can get elsewhere (good taste and crunch). After getting home, I had to reheat everything because it got cold from sitting. I was so disappointed with my paneer dish. The paneer texture was gritty and chewy (unlike any paneer I've ever had), and the sauce tasted like some kind of canned onion soup, not seasoned sufficiently like I expect with Indian cuisine. The rice was okay, pretty standard for a lot of places in Lynchburg. My husband was upset because there were 3, yes THREE total pieces of chicken in his chicken dish. He hated the sauce as well and usually loves butter chicken. He ended up tossing it and made another dinner at home. The naan was also distinctly the same naan as the one Kroger has pre made that you throw in the oven. TLDR: not authentic, not worth the money, nice owners but bad business people, get the Gobi if you must visit, don't settle for three pieces of chicken

Kitchen is the proper noun to describe this place as there is no place to sit and eat. This place is an oddity quite frankly in that somehow the food here is phenomenal yet the business model is an absolute train wreck. There is no labels on anything and a standard menu is constantly in flux. Also everything is absurdly expensive like think NYC prices but despite these shortcomings I believe this place has the potential to be great. One of the strengths of making Indian food affordable is to have a set amount of curries constantly cooking and simply serve with rice but instead here they have some dishes with the rice mixed in. Thus buying standard white rice is not an option. The food is phenomenal and unlike anything I've had in Lynchburg. A different style from the other Indian establishments for sure but this place really needs to get its business model straight as nothing is clear if you go there in person. If you have a place that's based entirely on carry out you need to have a system in which people can establish what they want, order, and receive their food as quickly as possible. The current business model has you searching for the menu for the first 20 minutes and waiting another 15 as things either cook or finish up. Truly a kitchen and not a restaurant in any sense.

Thank you Prince for an amazing birthday meal with Lizzie. Every bite was filled with the care you take preparing the dishes. Such a delicious way to spend a Saturday!

I love Indian food so I was super excited when I found this restaurant. The owner is so kind and explained everything on the menu and even offered samples of food to try before making a decision. I got the daily special and it was simply delicious. I forgot the name but it had just the right amount of spice and flavor. I look forward to trying other menu items like the butter chicken.

It wasn't quite the dish I was hoping for. For one thing, the menu promised some accoutrements like onions and pickles on the side that were not in fact delivered. For another, the best bhatura is a large basketball sized bread, so when I get several little ones like I did here I'm always a tad disappointed. The flavors were nonetheless robust in what I did get, with fenugreek leaves and fruity flavors balancing my chickpea curry's slow burn and delightfully soft textures to both the bread and the rice. A papadum with chutneys was delivered as well, and I ordered an unsweetened chai which I elected to not sweeten with the sugar at the table. So maybe the peak of quality wasn't quite there. If you give me a chole bhatura with a little yogurt on the side and some pickled mango or something like that, then we're in five star territory. But having gotten vegetarian, tasty food in a small town not overflowing with options, I was still satisfied that I picked the right place, and that you can find good Indian food almost anywhere.

I know we're all used to mammoth portions but it's not possible for restaurants to serve you a dinner to eat and enough for dinner tomorrow night, too. Yes, I also miss those days and those prices. Because the food is in fact tasty, we will go back. It's important to support the new food establishments giving it a go in places like Lovingston where there are so few options. Hopefully, Indian Oven will develop enough of a customer base to make portions just a little bigger. TBH, my chicken dish was so small, I thought it was some kind of side dish to my main entree. It doesn't need to be enough for two dinners, but it should be enough for 1. Still -- it is worth a visit. Let's support small independent restaurants.

Service is table-side but you pay at the desk. Portions are large and most people end up taking a box home. I'd say for two people, get two dishes to share and a single appetizer, too. They will allow a lot of alterations to your dishes and are careful to meet your spice tolerance. Do not expect a lot of answers on what exactly this or that dish is; the wait staff know how to put the orders in but not the intricacies of what separates chicken tikka from chicken tikka masala. The space is small, but I have gone with my wife and with 12 people and had no problems getting seating. Do check the times they are open, because if it's within 30 minutes of closing they can probably only get your food for you to-go. Most people like the skewered meat or korma-type foods. I'd say an order of naan is NOT sufficient for two people, so order double or a mix of two types (they have over 6 to choose from). If you don't do meat, they have fish dishes. And if you are vegetarian you'll be fine, but probably not a lot for a vegan. They also have a fusion East Asian section at the back of the menu. I've tried it and like it, but I'd say it's a bit heavier than the rest of the menu. TL;DR - If you don't know what something is, use their wifi and google it. It's a simpler process than asking the waitress who will ask the cook who will explain it to her so she can remember half of it and explain it to you. Also, usually a good idea to pair one meat dish with one vegetarian if you are splitting with someone. Maybe try one thing new and one old trusted item (saag paneer).

Weather may also be a factor, and when I arrived at the post opening time they were still setting up. The reason I have a high opinion of the place is not any of those things, but that it offers the distinctive home-cooked taste of a cuisine that is not otherwise available in the region to my knowledge. It is vegetarian South Indian and most of the options revolve around lentils and spices. I sampled a preparation I hadn't had before of ildi, a steamed rice and lentil cake, with some mouthwatering spicy powder. My spicy dosa, which I made it clear I wanted really spicy, was indeed fiery, but also possessed the delightful crispness and mix of sour and savory flavors distinctive to this cuisine. I also note that sometimes the salt in sambar overwhelms me but I didn't have a particularly tough time here; the flavors of the spices were enough without the ridiculous oversalting that some restaurants do. It is a taste that I would be happy to come back for in the near term and I would try virtually everything they offer.
