We stayed at the Barn, a wonderful loft from a converted barn. It took five years to build and has great details, including a split log spiral staircase and super warm fireplace. Inside, it is filled with historical decorations, like an American flag with 48 stars and an old wooden propeller that was damaged during take off. Shannon and Jennifer are very gracious hosts and were really helpful and welcoming during our visit. They live just two doors down the road and often helped us bring more firewood inside from the patio. It's key to keep the fireplace going into the evening as it's the primary source of heat for the barn. A couple pine logs will really get it toasty very quickly. Breakfast was really great and hearty. They stocked the Barn with bread, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, milk, juice, etc. There's one bathroom downstairs with a hot shower and a small electric heater to keep it warm inside. Next to the bathroom, there's a full size bed and a tv. There are two ceiling fans to keep some of the heat downstairs. Upstairs is the loft area with a queen bed and another tv. There's even an upstairs patio area, but we didn't go out there as it's really cold in the winter and was covered with snow. It would be great to hang out there on a warm summer evening though. Near the front entrance, there's a bbq grill on the patio and a hot tub that's heated year-round. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Escalante, and it's not too far from Bryce Canyon (about an hour) as we stopped there on our way back to Phoenix. Although it' a bit far from San Jose, CA, I look forward to returning in the future. Maybe in the fall or spring when it's not so cold. Winters can be tough in this area, so pack your down jackets, gloves, thermals, boots, etc.

I stopped at the Rim Rock Inn in Torrey because I heard they had Tesla chargers. I honestly didn't…read morebelieve it, so I walked inside and talked to a really friendly woman at the front desk. She pulled out a map and showed me exactly where they were. They're not Superchargers. They're the regular home style Tesla chargers, but they also have the other connector I needed for my Cadillac SUV, so it worked out perfectly. I drove over, plugged in, scanned the QR code on the side of the charger, and it turned on right away. The Tesla app handled everything without any issues. The charging speed is what you'd expect from a home charger, but for an overnight stay it's totally fine. They're completely okay with people leaving their cars there overnight. Just lock it and let it charge. It's a little pricey, but when you look at the fact that there are basically no other charging options for 85 to 100 miles, it's actually a solid option. If you're passing through Torrey with an EV, this place makes things a lot easier.

They do serve coffee and what looked like store donuts as continental breakfast which we passed on.

The beds are comfy, but I can't speak for the pull-out sofa, because no one in our group used it. However, there is not enough storage for six people, which is a problem when hanging towels and coats. The kitchen is well stocked with almost everything you will need. There is a Kuerig for coffee, and k-cups are included. Salt and pepper are pretty much the only items in the pantry, so anything else will have to be brought in. There is a grill available for use, but it was so windy the flames kept going out. There is also a nice firepit for cool evenings, if it isn't too windy. Also included is a washer and dryer, and even laundry detergent. The TV works fine if you have an account to log into for Netflix, or another streaming service. The only downside is that it's pretty pricey. And the included maintenance fee seems high, considering we had to take the sheets off the beds, put all the dirty towels in the shower, take out the trash, and run the dishwasher before we left. I would absolutely stay here again if it wasn't for that.

This is a self check in hotel, but you are dependent upon them to send you the code that will open the door to your room. That never came and I waited in the rain in the cold for hours. The Phone number in the lobby attached to the name of some lazy toothless imbecile named Archie, who doesn't answer the phone, was no help Whatsoever. The incompetence, the complete disregard for paying guests, and lack of apology for such egregious non-service is a slap in the face. NEVER GIVE THIS ESTABLISHMENT YOUR $$.

Troy and Michelle have been amazing hosts, showing us around each trailer, answering questions phone call after phone call, even going as far as helping me find a local photographer for the occasion. The Airstreams are beautifully decorated, well-equipped with amenities, super clean and comfortable. They've put a lot of thought and creativity into everything; the trailers, the drive-in theater, even the snack bar... And, every time we stay there, they seem to be making some new improvement, like adding more Airstreams, remodeling, or expanding. If you want a fun place to stay in the Escalante, Bryce Canyon, Petrified Forest area... I can't recommend Shooting Star enough. These people care about their guests and, in my experience with them, it shows.
