I couldn't be happier with my experience adopting a rescue dog from Ann's Angels! All communication was clear and prompt. I ended up flying into Kansas City from Seattle to pick up an adorable yorkie-bichon puppy and Ann, who is an angel herself, drove the puppy to the airport to meet me to save me the time and expense of renting a car. She provided paperwork showing all recent vaccinations and she had clearly done a lot of work with the puppy on initial housebreaking skills. We are in the process of adopting our second baby from Ann's Angels. This woman is an angel who runs this rescue out of her own home. Her responses are always quick, kind, and knowledgeable. It's obvious she goes above and beyond to seek out animals who need her help. For instance, she's made connections to save dogs from puppy mill "brokers" who would otherwise be killed if they can't find pet stores to sell them. That's the back story for our newest pup. I kindly asked through email (no response) and facebook that we were interested in a pup and would drive there. I reached out to the owner 3 times before I finally got a response through facebook messanger. I sent her a message asking if she would be willing to lower the adoption fee. The owner wrote back a hateful message and then blocked me. I wasn't rude, in fact, had she not blocked me I was going to tell her I would speak to my husband and consider it. If they are really so desperate to find homes for their animals they should be willing to work with individuals who are seeking to adopt the animals. Very poorly run business...if you even want to call it that. read more

Business practices are suspect at best. Cash only required "donation" which is not refundable if the dog doesn't work out. No trial period. They are not a not-for-profit organization. Doesn't report "donations" as income, i.e. cash only. Won't provide health and microchip documents until after you have the dog in your possession. The conditions of this rescue along with the questionable business practices cause me great concern. Time to look further for a dog from a legitimate organization. read more

We adopted our new pup from here. Was in shock at first that it was their house they operated out of. When we got there we stood outside the fence till the son came out (probably 10-12 of age) asked what we needed he was very nice. Told him we were there to pick up the pup we selected. We stood outside for a little bit and he brought out two pups ( they were both twin girls) so it's understandable they asked which one we bought but they could've collared them or something. They gave her a quick bath so she would be nice and clean for the ride home. A lady walked out that came all the way from Nebraska and she looked very happy. The dad walked out very polite and he took over. All and all it was a smooth process. We had to donate in order to hold our pup. Which was a little concerning since we drove 2.5 hours to get there. Very nice people to deal with Ann was not there so i imagine it's a family buisness. They gave us a full bag of food to slowly move her off theirs to our brand. I honestly say besides the having to donate to hold a pup before you meet it (we got lucky she's a cuddly bug) I would definitely recommend. No doubt in my mind they love their animals. read more

While I have little doubt that this rescue is trying to help animals, the way it goes about it is suspect. If you are not in the area but you have already been approved to adopt, you must pay the adoption fee before you even meet the dog, or the owner of the rescue will stop responding to you. The owner will hold the dog if you pay, but if you are serious about taking on a lifelong commitment and wanting to meet the dog before you make that commitment, you are out of luck. Since her adoption fees are non-refundable, this is a no-win situation. Insisting on getting the money from people before they have met the dog is the way to send dogs back into the kill system. It is a poor model for a rescue to follow. The owner also appears to adopt out dogs that have not been tested for heartworm and will adopt dogs out the same day the adopters have been approved. Due diligence is required here. read more
