I wanted a cheese steak and I heard about Ray and Mike's. So I thought I would give it a try. I tried ordering it online but it wouldn't work. I called and the girl over the phone wasn't clear and seemed to be in a rush. I believe saying "is there anything else?" Rather than "that's it?" is a better way to take a phone order. I drove there and walking in. The set up is half convenient store and half sandwiches. Orders are placed in cube slots and you will have to find your name. I saw some flies flying around the wrapped sandwiches. I got back to work and open the sandwich. It looked pretty good. The sub was a bit soggy and there was not much flavor on the steak and cheese. This review is solely based off a breakfast sandwich. I got the wake and bake it has to be the BEST breakfast sandwich I have ever had!! In the wake and bake it has steak, pastrami, egg, cheese, and hash browns on a roll. Guess how much... $8.50. SO CHEAP and the portion size is huge! I cannot rave enough about this sandwich. Recently checked out Ray and Mikes for a quick sandwich. It's located in a small plaza, has parking. It's a store setup on the left and the deli on the right. I got 2 of the Steak and Cheese sandwiches, very reasonably priced and good size grinder. The bread was fresh, meat was tender and juicy with a mix of onions and peppers. My only complaint was I feel it could've used a little more cheese to make it more savory and take it up a notch. Nonetheless, it's a fine cheesesteak and one I would recommend trying. read more

1st time customer, saw on social media thought I give it a try. I walk in, half is a mini mart the other side is a deli and on the deli side I see flys. I ordered the Mr nice guy and I then see them microwave an already fried chicken cutlet that was sitting in the middle of the kitchen area. 10$ for a microwave chicken cutlet and old avocado would not recommend maybe the cheese steak is better. read more

The hard rolls contain poppy seeds so you have to explicitly ask for a Portuguese roll. Simple fix, the staff is always nice and my food is always ready when I go to pickup. The premises is split into two halves, a convenience store on the left and an old school deli on the right. You won't find any refrigerated cases with salads or pastas or meatballs here, just an old service counter and some vintage menu boards advertising a boatload of deli and breakfast sandwiches. Many of them come in three sizes -roll, sub, or giant. We went with a simple Ham and Provolone on a roll with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions for a rock bottom $6.99. The sandwich was EXCELLENT!! A super fresh poppy seed roll, a big layer of deli ham and provolone, and some very fresh L, T, and O made for a great meal and an excellently priced value. Last week I picked up a roast beef sub. After the first bite, I knew I made a mistake. The roast beef was gray rather than pink, tough rather than easy to chew and just plain nasty. Was the best for years and years. They switched some ways a few months ago like hot pepper spread instead of hot peppers and cut up shreds of chicken cutlet, almost like chicken fingers instead of once glamorous chicken cutlet for their chicken Parm grinder and it just not as good. read more

Just coming back to update my review and remind everyone how great ray and mikes is. They just redid parts of the interior recently and gave the countertops etc. a nice upgrade. The cluckin russian continues to be my favorite thing on the menu and no deli anywhere has been able to recreate it. I did also try a bite of my friends salsa chicken wrap and that was VERY good as well. Don't forget to grab a pickle as well! read more

Positives: open from 6am to 10pm 365 days a year, they have some creative items on their menu, easy pickup system, convenient location off the 91/parkway connector, subs come in 3 sizes including giant sized, prices are reasonable. Negatives: the bread used for the hot sandwiches/subs gets soggy very quickly. By the time we get home in 10 minutes our food is wet. Ugh. The bread for the cold deli sandwiches seems to hold up better. A couple of their sandwiches just look gross. They taste decent so I guess dont judge a book by its cover. This place seems to be a staple in Hamden. We aren't totally done with them but it certainly isnt our top pick for a decent sandwich. read more

We ordered 4 four foot long subs and maybe 10 wraps for an after game feeding of over 40 college aged lacrosse players. They all got fed and really liked the subs, especially the steak and cheese. Well I gave this highly recommended spot a try and I truly wasn't disappointed. Went around 1230pm on a Tuesday afternoon and this place was hopping !! But they seek to have a pretty good system of taking orders, stay the back and what to me called for your well wrapped yumminess. Staff are very friendly and seem like that have a very good system of getting you in and out. Placed my order stood to the side had a brief conversation with someone else waiting for their order. When I got my sub sandwich I noticed it had some weight to it. When I finally got to unwrap it I noticed the softness of the bread and the lovely melted cheese on the massive amount of steak that was in my sandwich. They definitely give you your money's worth. My sandwich was meaty, hearty and worth it. So if you haven't heard and just going off my review....go for it and try this place. The menu was pretty lengthy so they do have alot to choose from. Though there is very little seating, we got our food, and then sat outside to eat. I really do like steak and cheese, and this was not among the best I have had. It wasn't bad, it's just that my standard is incredibly high. It had a great amount of meat, but just lacked the overwhelming flavor that defines a good cheesesteak.
