However, the reason i give 5 stars is because I went to make a complaint about the video visit system and I got to talk to a CO who was the kindest CO I have met in any jail. He wasn't only kind he actually fixed the situation in which i was upset about. Thats unheard of with my experience. I think his name was shaun. last name maybe started with an h but i could be wrong my memory sux but he was a rank that was able to make the changes necessary to fix the issue at hand and give me hope that things can change for the better. Brought him there, did not give him the meds he was on for 4 days which caused him to go through horrible pain and withdrawals. I called twice and spoke with the nursing staff and they didn't seem to care. I will be reporting this to the state. That's horrible, thank God he wasn't diabetic!! Ya know, the best part of it was the fact that I ended up knowing some guys who I used to work with at Subway. I come in through the cell block and immediately eye on eye was established. Oh, the birds sung like the gypsies: twee twee tweedee dee dee doo DOO! That is not all. I mean, for having a bunch of felons, they were awfully nice. Like having a plethora of lawyers and counselors, I got legal advice from about 15 different inmates, all telling me the same thing while soothing my anxiety about the possibility of a becoming one of them. Whoever said felons don't have a soft side? You think this is all? Think not! I've got more: hell, there were cable tvs, your own shower, and get this--ping pong tables! Uh huh, yup, there is a GOD! Seriously, it was almost like a five-star luxury hotel, except.... uh oh, you ready for this? ...the food lowered the score to a three. Oh mighty mother of GOD: the food was awful! Terrible! Repugnant! After being locked up, hungry, cold, exhausted within a holding cell the size of your fist, all that was delivered to appease the pangs of stomach hunger was a cup size of milk, a rotting orange, and a MOCK REUBEN. Did you hear me? A MOCK REUBEN. I have no idea what the hell was in this slop of garbage, but it certainly wasn't the kind of Reuben Cecil makes. Nu-uh. Nozeree. In fact, I'm quite surprised I managed to classify the little bastard. I think...now, don't quote me, but there was ham, cheddar cheese, onion-kraut?--or something like sour kraut, and uh, butter (instead of thousand island dressing), all slammed together into a funny-looking, not pumpernickel, bread that was then pan fried to a burnt crisp...??! WTF? Now, I could have given this place a three all food items considered. But, I have to slap another star on--why you ask? Well, let me tell you: the shampoo brand they gave to us was named 'maximum security'! Who would have ever thought of a better shampoo brand to shove into the shower cell than that? It is as if they were inserting subliminal propaganda through advertising messages posted on the bottles they gave us, just to let us to know 'that we are watching you, son!' Genius, I say! Genius! The interior was super cute, and the space was much larger than we expected. I ordered the red wine flight while my friend chose the white flight. The reds were unique but delicious! It was fun taking a sip, guessing the tasting notes, then checking the informational card to see how close I was. We also split a charcuterie board, which had the perfect variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, and accompaniments to pair with the wines. The staff was incredibly friendly and genuinely eager to help us find wines we'd enjoy. There was also plenty of easy street parking just around the block. We'd definitely come back!

They offer free coffee from the Nespresso machine which is a nice touch. They have their own wine shop next door that is kind of expensive. Buying a bottle in the winery and corking it to go is a more affordable option if you plan to drink it right away.

The staff allowed us in early as there was no one booked ahead of us. The library is a good size and had all that you could want or need. It was easy to book the room online too! They said that you can have 1 reservation per week.

Nevertheless, for a mere $5 admission I was happy to explore the Brown County Historical Society and Museum when in New Ulm last year. There is not much to see in the way of exhibits (the building also houses a research library) but I'm always curious about local history when I visit a new place. Here I learned about the local farms and how the area was settled. There was also a wonderful exhibit on the US-Dakota War, something I was either never taught in history class or something that was brushed over so quickly that I forgot. A special exhibit of illustrations from Wanda Gag (local author and illustrator) was also on display at the time I was there. I also saw postings for many community events held at or sponsored by the Brown County Historical Society. While inside the museum offers a brief but informative history of New Ulm, one of the stars here is the building itself. Originally home to the US Post Office, it is described as a German Renaissance style brick building. Even if the museum and building are closed, it's worth at least stopping by to see this stunning architectural achievement.
