While the food here is delicious, there's much to improve on the service and ambience. When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by hysterical laughter and conversations. I was a bit surprised that the restaurant was so loud and assumed this was coming from another customer. To my surprise it was the lady behind the service counter she was on a personal call while working... There was a line when we entered so we got in it. After 10 mins it was our turn and the lady continued her conversation on the phone as she asked us "what you want to get?" We told her we were looking to dine in and she said "you should have sat down then, this is to go"... How is a customer supposed to know that if no one tells them this upon entering? Long story short, we sat down and waited some more until we placed our order. While waiting on our food, we could barely hear ourselves when talking st our table because this lady continued on with her personal call the entire duration. By far my favorite dish was the spinach stew with rice (I chose chicken for my protein). It was wonderful, full of spice, and 5-star worthy! The grilled tilapia was good as well and came with a couple of sauces to sample. The jollof rice was a bit of a disappointment but I normally don't care much for goat meat but liked the way they made it. The service was also good. When I called in the order they said 30-40 minutes, but when I arrived in we'll under 30 minutes it was already done and ready to go. All things considered, this was very good experience. read more

The pricing and portion at this restaurant is honestly ridiculous. Tilapia is one of the cheapest fish you can buy in America which is why I tend to eat red snapper, but it was $25.00. Why are you people charging $20.00 for grilled tilapia and one cut-up sweet plantain(6 pieces)? For that price we should be getting at least 2 cut up plantain, each one is about .80 cents retail wholesale. The side of jollof was $8.00 and it was decent. The fish was okay, a decent sized fish but more salt, ginger and pepper is recommended in the seasoning. Banku was good but okra stew wasn't flavorful, I added liquid maggi for flavor. If you have no choice I would recommend them, I think their portions in comparison to other Ghanaian restaurants in NYC/NJ is a joke. read more

Upon arrival the food was lukewarm- so I decided to plate it and microwave it myself. I ordered the jollof rice with fried fish. The jollof rice was okay- but to me, it tasted a bit dry. The heat and spices were there- but I definitely remember there being more texture and fullness to the rice. I usually go with goat meat, but today I was feeling pescatarian, so I ordered it with the fish, and there were more bones than meat for the fish cut they prepared for me. The dish was not bad, it did hit some of my food cravings, but I think there were components that could have improved the dish... maybe i can give another dish a try. The food checks the mark for the flavoring, but i think the ingredients and preparation of the fish and rice left me expecting greater and bolder flavors. read more

This is for their Coes Street location in Worcester because I can't find it. Horrible customer service. Repeatedly have issues each time I come. First time I came with a friend, and waitress barely acknowledged or interacted with us. As it was my first time, I let it go. Just now, I go at opening to order takeout. I was quoted it would take 25 minutes. I come back 25 minutes later just to be told it would take another 20 minutes, although the man I asked didn't disclose this to me at first. He went to the back, came back and played with register until I asked him again how long my food was going to take to come out. Meanwhile, workers are standing around ke'keing with each other instead of running their business. I ask them for a refund because I am unable to wait, and everyone is trying to scrimp together the refund from their own pockets. No apology for delay in food time. The waalkye Came with gari, stew, and meat with shito. The jollof was served with salad and meat and very tasty. The meatpie was my least favorite thing. The service was nice and they attended to our time. The meat was a bit tough to chew and the rice was a little dry, spice is tolerable on the rice plate. Fried chicken was good, it's very typical. The fufu is limited to what they make during each day, so they do not serve everything that's on the menu daily as it says. After spending a summer in Ghana a few years back, every now and then I get a mighty craving for Ghanaian food. Anokye Krom labels itself as an "African American" restaurant, but make no mistake: this is an authentic Ghanaian experience. While dining in, I ordered the kenkey with a whole tilapia. The flavors were all spot-on from what I remembered: the spicey, oily shito and mild pepper salsa serving as perfect complements for sour funk of the fermented cornmeal and tender, well-seasoned fish. Since I made a special trip here from Boston, I wanted to be sure my craving would be satisfied for some time, so I also ordered two dishes to go. My favorite dish in Ghana was palaver sauce with boiled green plantains, and this did not disappoint. The leaf stew was delicious--smokey and not too salty, hearty and not too oily--and in a portion big enough for two to enjoy, with plenty of plantains. I also ordered and was particularly impressed by their red red: black-eyed peas stewed with a palm oil sauce. My stew contained several pieces of tender beef, and the meal also came with a portion of gari to mix in, two pieces of fried fish on the bone, and a whopping portion of fried ripe plantains. The latter were perfectly done. (As a note, neither to-go meal was listed on the menu as I named it here, but the waitress knew what I wanted when I asked.) Prices were all very reasonable, considering the amount of food I got! My complaint is that service was remarkably slow, taking about two hours to bring our meals on a Sunday afternoon in which the restaurant was busy but by no means packed. Verdict: One very satisfied obruni. I would gladly make a trip to Anokye Krom again and recommend it to anyone who wants to try some real Ghanaian food. read more

very very poor customer service. i was there Saturday the 25 th of November 2023 between 5-6pm and it was a lady doing the cashiering and also answering the phone calls. I placed an order for fried yam with hot source only since the person i was ordering for was a vegetarian. the lady told me the fried yam doesn't come with hot sauce I will only get the hot source if I add fish and I did. when I got there to pick my order,I asked for two pies and I asked her to separate the pies in a separate paper bags since it was for two people and she refused stating each paper bag can hold five pies so she wont separate them to waste the bags. Her Attitude was just as retailers in Ghana. They treat their customers poorly. Anokye krom employee should wear a name budge. The food did not even taste good for them to be rude. read more

I am a delivery driver, and this place is horrible. The owner talks on the phone all the time and is quite dismissive of drivers. Even getting his attention isn't the easiest thing to do. We ordered take out. The guy who took our order was a little rude and hung up abruptly. The food was awesome though. They definitely know what their doing in the kitchen. We ordered the goat soup waakye and jollof with beef and fish. Everything was awesome. The jollof was surprisingly good the beef wasn't too tough and the waakye was good. I'm usually not a fan of waakye but there's and the stew with it was nice. Also the slaw that came with the jollof rice was niceeee. We'll definitely be eating here again. This review is geared towards the American who wants to have a taste of Ghana without flying across the Atlantic to do so. Worcester is considered Little Ghana to many. Worcester has the highest population of Ghanaians outside of Ghana. If you have ever wanted to have some traditional food from Ghana, this is a great place to start. The menu has a nice selection of the most common foods and a few specials each week. The menu also has some of the best descriptions I have seen in an ethnic restaurant, really helping you choose without feeling foolish. We chose to order Suya for an appetizer, this is meat that is lightly fried and seasoned with "suya" powder. It is lightly spicy but full of flavor. The meat was not overly cooked and easy to bite into. This reminded me very much of the suya kabobs you can find on many street corners in Accra. For our main meals we ordered WaaKye (pronounced "watch eh") and Chofi with yams and shito (pronounced "shi toe"). Both meals were good. WaaKye is an African version of rice and beans. Black eyed peas are cooked with rice, they are seasoned and colored with these reddish leaves called waakye. The rice and beans themselves are very bland, this is done intentionally because they are always served with a spicy stew. The stew at Anokye Krom is made from beef and was excellent. Spicy, moist and easy to eat. The perfect compliment to the waakye. Served on the plate will be a boiled egg, a small serving of spaghetti and a VERY spicy sauce called "shito". Shito is the Ghanaian version of a mexican hot sauce and can vary in flavor depending on the chef. It is generally tomato based and has dried shrimp and hot peppers in it. Taste a very small amount to gauge how much you want to use with your food. The Chofi (fried turkey butt) is street food Ghana style. This is a very difficult meal to make correctly and very few vendors can do it right. This chofi was good, but definitely not my first choice on our meals. The turkey fat was not cooked out and it was difficult to navigate around the fat pockets. The yams and fresh shito on the plate was AWESOME. I would not recommend this as the first Ghanaian dish to try. You will notice handsoap on your table and you will be brought a large plastic bowl filled with water, this is for you to wash your hands prior to eating. Eating with your hands is highly encouraged. You will use the same bowl after eating to wash off your hands again. Service was mediocre. Food takes quite a while, unless you order something like soup. We asked the girl (in the native language) to bring additional items but she never complied. There is a refrigerator by the bar with waters and soft drinks, help yourself, they will add them to your bill when they total it up. There is a full bar here. read more

I walk in and it takes about 10 minutes to get the guys attention. When I finally do he says it'll be out in a minute. I wait about 10 minutes and then ask again and he says it'll be out in a minute. After 15 more minutes I try a third time to get the guy's attention and instead of looking over to me he looks away and takes a phone call even though I'm sitting right next to him. For context, I have never had Ghanaian good before, and this was a great first experience. The foods were so rich with tantalizing flavors, my mouth was overwhelmed, in a delightful way. I tend to think of myself as someone who can handle my spice, as I've been raised on a typical east Asian cuisine, but this food was so intensely spicy, it gave me a bit of a brain freeze - but like a brain burn, with a good amount of perspiration. We tried the fried turkey butt, fufu with goat, and okra. The meat was tougher than i expected, but all in all, it was delicious. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I love the Waa Kye (black eyed peas with rice) and if you like spicey food get the Jallof rice. sooooooo good with the black pepper. Or the suya (seasoned steak strips in black pepper spice) As an american I have a hard time with the fish, as it still has the face and bones on it. But the peanut stew or spinach stew are the best.
