The food had decent flavorr and the portions were fair, but a few dishes felt a bit inconsistent compared to what I expected. Service was polite, although it took longer than expected for our order to arrive. The place itself was clean and had a nice atmosphere, so there's definitely potential. First, I have to start out with how delicious the food was, and authentic. Every bite was a delight, including the last one! But I would be remiss if I didn't talk about the incredible service. Just off restaurant laden and bustling Shrewsbury street is this unassuming Thai food restaurant. Most of the Yelp reviews I read leaned toward the positive, so we decided to give it a try for lunch on this unseasonably cold Saturday afternoon. We were the second patrons of the day and seated immediately. The menus were already on the table and the options are fairly extensive. We ordered: - Scallion Pancakes $8.95 - Chicken Dumplings (fried) $8.95 - Honey Duck Meal $25.95 Our food arrived about 20 minutes after our order, we were surprised the appetizers took that long, as in many Asian restaurants, these arrive much faster. The Chicken Dumplings were the best dish, hot, nicely fried and tasty. The Scallion Pancakes were dry, bland and a little overcooked. The Honey Duck was disappointing, it was also dry, there was very little sauce to help it, and the carrots were cool. It wasn't a well executed dish. We would be unlikely to return here, as there are a plethora of other restaurants to choose from in this area. Overall this visit warranted 2.5 stars, rounded up to three stars for the polite and reasonably prompt service. read more

This was some of the best thai food I've ever had! I ordered the pad thai and it was saucey and flavorful. I also had a spring roll which has the best peanut sauce of any thai restaurant i've ever had, and fresh, crunchy veggies inside. We also had a soup, and other main dishes at my table which everyone enjoyed. I would highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Food is delicious. We usually order takeout and it has been taking longer each time. Tonight's order took an hour. I observed a couple walking in sitting at the bar, they were given menus but weren't offered even water while they waited so they walked out. There were at least three other takeout orders that were waiting too. One employee working very hard to try to take care of everything in the front of the house is not enough. In the past when we waited the owner or someone would come out and apologize for the wait and at least offer us something to drink while we waited. We won't be going back anytime soon unfortunately since the food is good but service has been disappointing. read more

We stopped in at Basil n Spice while a friend was visiting from out of town and the restaurant staff was exceptional. Service was great and great food. This is my go-to for Thai food. The staff were all very nice--and the chef which I think might have been the owner came out to say hello. I commend and thank the staff for putting up with our party--our kids in our party were pretty loud. but they truly enjoyed their meals and time there. We have been working our way down Shrewsbury street and stopped in here tonight. A non descriptive place hidden in the back of a small strip mall. We were seated right away as the place was empty. One worker, on floor and bar, but he seemed like he was able to handle a full house. Good selection of drafts and signature cocktails. We went with our go to's for Thai. Crab Rangoon's, Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai (both with chicken). The Rangoon's were typical. The two main dishes were surprisingly large. The Pad Thai had an amazing taste. We felt it could have had more chicken, but the bamboo shoots, and crushed peanuts on the side allowed us to mix what we wanted. The Drunken Noodles had a good kick, without being too hot. One of the best Thai restaurants in this area - and we have quite a few options to choose from! Everything is fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. We especially love the yellow curry, the pad Thai and the chicken dumplings. We order takeout from them a lot but ate in the restaurant for the first time today. We were so pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere makes you feel like you're on vacation and the service is fantastic. They also make a great cocktail. read more

Why haven't we been here a million times already? Well, that stops now. My New Year's resolution is to go at least once a month to Basil and Spice. It's clean and the atmosphere is completely relaxed. I loved the Tung Tong!! We did the sample platter but next time we will get a full order of Tung Tong. The Basil n Spice fried rice was excellent and will probably get that every time we go again. The seafood combo and drunken noodles are great, so you can't go wrong with those. We ordered from here last night after this place was recommended by people more familiar with the Worcester food scene than us. They have the Thai classics and more globally Asian classics. I ordered my usuals: scallion pancakes and penang curry. My little wonton requested soup and selected the one with the dumplings. I also threw in an order for veggie dumplings (steamed) and edamame for GI plumbing purposes, you understand. One of the good things about this place is that there are a bunch of vegetarian options, including the dumplings and rolls, as well as many of the entrees. Food came slightly earlier than I expected. The scallion pancakes were much crisper than standard, almost like they're individually fried. They were good, I wouldn't have minded receiving more with our order though (wink face). The edamame wasn't flavored particularly well. The edamame beans themselves were hard as a rock. My jaw muscles got a bit of a work out. This wasn't very good and not exactly the highlight of their menu. Don't waste money or gastric volume on this. Against my better judgment, I ordered the veggie dumplings steamed. The wrapping itself was very fragile and mushy. The inside was decent and did not contain anything with an awkward texture or sketchy crunch. I'm on the fence about ordering this again. I've had some bomb dumplings in my life, and unfortunately, these didn't fall into that category. I'm not sure what I expect from a Thai place in Worcester, MA. The soup broth was very good, it was actually better today when I had it for left overs. That mushy dumpling wrapping completely disintegrated in the broth of the soup and it was impossible to grab one of those bad boys with chopsticks without it completely coming apart under my grip. I know what you must be thinking: yes I am a white person but all things considering, I have a formidable chop stick dexterity. Finally, the penang curry. This was VERY good. The tofu was fried deliciously and the flavor of the sauce was really tasty. I actually ordered a side of steamed veggies which I added to the sauce once I finished the veggies in there and this made for like two meals. This is something I would definitely order again from this place. The main Thai dishes on the menu are probably very good. Lower your expectations about the more "globally Asian" options. read more

This place is a bit hidden and not a ton of parking in front of the store, but plenty on the street surrounding it. We stopped in for an early dinner and on a whim given that my mom had a coupon. This was about 6 months or so ago so my review is a little late (spring 2019). The service was very good and our server was very attentive. Portions were large and we brought plenty home. I loved the Pad Thai and the Spicy Beef definitely made my nose run - lol. I hope they can make it given the competition for staff and overall. read more

Stopped in for an early dinner. A little hard to find but well worth it. The fried calamari was very tender. The drunken noodles with shrimp was very tasty. A healthy serving of shrimp and spicy sauce. The best I've ever had. My son got the red curry. Overall nice size serving but only one piece of eggplant. Pre pandemic, I had a meal here and it was very tasty. There are so many great options for Thai in the city that I forgot about them BUT that was a mistake! Suddenly, I remembered again and got delivery. They deliver through the major apps. Food showed up hot and full of flavor. I highly suggest any of the noodle dishes and the fried rice was packed with veggies. Typically when I order veggie fried rice I see a few onions and peppers but not here... packed with goodness! There are so many Thai restaurants in the Worcester area, it was hard to choose which one to go to. This place stood out with its good reviews and restaurant decor. A great place to get take out but dine in as well. I ordered the pineapple fried rice with shrimp, it was delicious and so fresh! My mom and brother ordered the drunken noodles and, although spicy, she loved it. My husband got the Thai green curry and he said it was very good as well. The Thai iced tea is a must. I got the limeade iced tea, it was very nice but didn't pair well with my food to be honest. My husband got the regular Thai iced tea, it was so creamy and delicious. The best part was how they turned the straw wrapper into a rose (see photo) So fun! Our waitress was very friendly, would definitely return! read more

Wonderful restaurant with authentic and delicious dishes. We order the shrimp Pad Thai ( whose acidic taste was from tamarind and not vinegar), beef with spicy eggplant, honey crispy lamb, and salmon in a delicious spicy sauce; everything was accompanied with white rice. We thought we over ordered, but believe or not, we took care of everything. Good service, excellent food, and at the end of our meal the chef and owner visited our table to ask if we enjoyed the meal. We did, and you will too! read more

Jeeze do I miss this place. Easily my favorite Thai in all of Worcester proper. The parking is a mess, and the atmosphere isn't amazing or anything, but the food quality is great. My wife and I have been trying to go out to restaurants since we were allowed to during covid. This place does everything perfect considering it's a pandemic. The menus are at the table under plastic, the silverware is plastic but looks nice. When people leave everything gets wiped down. Also the food is fantastic. I loved it!!! We came here while at a conference and it was absolutely the best Thai food I'd ever eaten. I've tried many. Trust me. It's great. I had the gluten free drunken noodles with chicken while friends had the dumplings, chicken fried rice, rice wraps, and Pad Thai. Everyone enjoyed it and except for my left overs, there were none! The owner/chef came over and asked if we enjoyed our meal and we were all floored!!! She was an older almost elderly woman who continued to work on a daily basis to not only run the kitchen but cook the food. Amazing!!! The parking is a little scares and when we pulled up I was a little worried I'd suggested to friends a place based on Yelp reviews that would be a great place to meet. I had the pleasure of visiting this place yesterday and I'm extremely pleased. Service was excellent! The waiter was so patient and took time to explain the dishes. She elaborated on how everything is made fresh by the owner/cooks, even the garlic is fresh peeled per the waiter. For an appetizer I had Hoi Jors. The were very good and sweet n sour sauce was a perfect flavor match. I ordered the season special as an entree, pumpkin curry with scallops and white rice. It's the best meal I've eaten at a restaurant this year. So much flavor. I plan to revisit very soon and often. read more

I am fairly picky about my thai cuisine because I find many places make their pad thai too sweet. I've only eaten at Basil n' Spice twice, but both times have been extremely pleasant experiences. Most recently I had the Basil Pad Thai, and it was excellent. It had a little kick but was not too spicy. The food is on the pricier side but the portion sizes are fairly large and the atmosphere is wonderful. I personally love the decor. However, what really makes Basil n' Spice stand out is the staff. Our servers were so friendly and went above and beyond. When we asked for recommendations, our waiter told us that although he enjoys the specials, he actually prefers most of the regular menu items. He admitted that just because some items were pricier did not make them better. As young adults on a budget (but still wanting good food), we appreciated his honesty. When I ask for a recommendation, I want to know people's true, personal opinions and the wait staff provided just that. Overall, I think Basil n' Spice is a good place for a nice night out. It's not a place I would necessarily go regularly (mainly due to the prices compared to other Worcester restaurants), but a good place for when I want to change up my usual meal spots. read more

I'm from NY City, and this was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. They have crispiness down to a science, whether it's in the delicate, tasty fried dumplings or the exquisite crispy duck (which is not normally spicy, but at my request they made it super-spicy). Yummm. Actually 4.5 stars but fiance says we have to reserve 5s for the best best. We got my favoritee- chicken pad thai and massamun curry. Chicken pad thai - noodles seems softer/more steamed than other places but large serving and so so good. I would get it again. Massamun curry - nice and sweet (not spicy at all). But too many onions (but I picked them out). I would get it again. I also got the sticky rice (aka coconut rice in some places). It was underwhelming :( It's my favorite, and usually I eat it almost as a dessert (like you don't have to eat it with anything and it's sweet and chewy). The little lump of sticky rice we got was hard to break apart (for sticky rice) and maybe even a little hard in the corners... It also wasn't sweet, so I just ate it with the curry... 2.95 too much :(. Thai Iced tea was excellent (I dont think Ive ever seen a thai restaurant mess up on this), their straw rose was so cuuute.
