The service was attentive, but not quite up to my expectations: I had never eaten there, and asked the waitress which duck she recommended. She gave me her recommendation and I ordered it. It was absolutely inedible. There was a glutinous beige "peanut" sauce glossed all over it. It was ice cold. the broccoli and carrots had been frozen and minimally reheated, and all together it was awful. The tom kha was manageable, but needed lime and lemongrass. I am from Texas and make better Thai food than this. I was clear about my distaste for the duck and while I didn't explicitly ask, was surprised that they didn't offer to take it all, or partly, off my bill. $50 for a basically inedible meal. FOOD: DELICIOUS! DELICIOUS DELICIOUS DELICIOUS!!!!! My sister got Chicken pad Thai and I got Khao Soi. For apps we got Crab Rangoon, Tofu Triangles and Chive Dumplings (not pictured...I forgot and we inhaled them). The HOT TEA that they give you to warm up is SO good. It's a Thai Tea/Jasmine blend that I've never had before. It doesn't need added sugar, it's steeped for the PERFECT amount of time and doesn't taste burned and it smells SO good. The portions are HUGE. I should've put a hand or something next to it for reference. Just massive, both orders. The Khao Soi lasted me two meals. I made sure to eat all the noodles out so they didn't get soggy and added new noodles when I finished it the next day. I cannot express how delicious this food was. SERVICE: Phenomenal. I don't know the name of the woman who brought our food, but she has braces and she's SO sweet. We ordered our apps, she brought them out with plates to share...we ordered our entrees, she brought them out HOT...we ordered another app and got it in less than 5 mins...then at the end, we ordered two Thai teas to go and she brought them out wrapped in this cute little bag sleeve with handles. She wrapped our food up for us, placed it in the bag and checked us out quickly and efficiently. She also made sure our tea stayed hot and full! VIBES: it's huge inside. You can def come with a group. Clean, huge windows and amazing service. Not the type of place to come to drunk and sloppy, but def worth a hang out, lunch/dinner or date. So when I ordered just the rice I specifically asked if it would be the dark rice which is an actual thing for Thai food. But she claimed it is the house rice. So is that the same thing? During this bullshit apocalyptic time I have been trying to support local restaurants and also do what I normally do under normal circumstances which is order delivery. Did you know that yelp has a pretty good delivery section? It's not as robust as seamless or doordash but I KNOW I'm not alone when it comes to running into disappointment with some of the highly rated places on seamless. Really? What kind of food are you guys getting because it is not the soggy mush I've received. Ok back to Rice Violet. It newly popped up on my yelp delivery list, bringing it to our attention. The appetizer menu is out of this world. IDK if you're like me, but I am a huge bitch for appetizers. They make it easy for indecisive folk by offering a VEGETARIAN appetizer platter which happens to also be an amazing deal.You wouldn't believe it, they had tofu squares, those little "golden bags", they had spring rolls, they have dumplings, they also have these unusual kale dumplings which ended up being BOMB. The dumplings were amazing. They tasted different than most dumplings that I'm used to. The contents of the dumplings had an almost Italian cuisine flavor. Whatever that shit was I thoroughly enjoyed it. The golden bags are filled with almost samosa chaat-like contents. Delicious. I haven't had the spring rolls yet but mean to toss back one of those bad boys when I get home. I made sure to add an order of penang curry, which is a standard order from any thai place. The sauce was delicious. They did that sneaky shit where they dumped a pile of rice (which was good btw) inside the container for the penang curry, as opposed to being in a separate container, which reduces container volume available for curry. Either way, I would recommend this dish. We ALSO ordered their spicy basil pad thai. I like a good PT as much as the next basic bitch but I also like a little variety in my lyfe. They have a few variations on the classic pad thai which is aggressively welcomed. The noodles were thin but clumped together. There were a bunch of veggies and the overall dish was pretty good, but didn't knock my socks off. 6/10 We actually legit also ordered some of their brussels sprouts. These were really very good. They were doused with a tasty sauce. I always like throwing in a few healthier items into the mix to make myself feel better, and this definitely does the trick. If you like brussels, they have a good version here. My first experience with Rice Violet was a good one. DEFINITELY heavily rely on their apps, which are the star of the show. This is a tough one, because I had really high hopes, but I've just not had such an uneven food experience in a while. The Tom Yum soup and the tofu satay were both fantastic. Flavorful, fresh, and the tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the flavoring was on point. I was so excited about the fried bok choy. And, as I told my waitress, the top layer was perfection, but very quickly as I dug in, it was completely over sauced and, therefore, salty. I couldn't finish it. She didn't say anything about replacing it, or trying something else instead, or taking it off the bill. Then I thought I would try one last thing and so I went for one of my all-time favorites, banana roll. As soon as I took a bite into the first one, it tasted as though it had been fried in old oil. I then took a bite of another piece to see if it was any different and it wasn't. And again, when I told her that it didn't taste good, she didn't say anything other than offering me a box. Unfortunately I did not listen and ordered it a second time and the sauce made the dish overly sweet. Perhaps it is a sweet dish and I thought it was more savory. The veggies were all very candied due to the sauce. My friend got the tamarind Duck and it is more sour... but still not a savory meal when you think of a Thai entree The prices were quite high as well. The meal with duck totaled to $19 for one dinner portion. Their servings was generous though. OK - pad Thai. For some reason their pad Thai was not my favorite. Their hot oil is great to get on the side- good kick with the pad thai. I love Thai food, it's one of my absolute favorites. My favorite dishes would be Pad See Ew or Pad Kee Mao. So being in Worcester I had high hopes for Rice Violet. My friend had ordered a pad thai, I ordered pad see ew, and our other friend ordered rice with beef stir fry. The Pad See Ew & Pad Thai the noodles were a bit hard, they could've been cooked a little more. The flavor of both noodle dishes was also really sweet which was too overpowering. However the rice dish with beef stir fry was well worth the flavor and spicy! I would give Rice Violet another try, but not go with their noodle dishes. read more

I've had Rice Violet in the past and generally enjoyed it but unfortunately that one horrific experience is the one that stays with you. I ordered delivery from them to the tune of $54. Note: delivery is not free. I was waiting quite a while when I finally called yelp about my order. As it happens the driver handed my food to some random person so no dinner for me. I should add that my order specifies to call me upon arrival precisely to avoid things like this. Am I annoyed at the person who stole my dinner? Yes. But I'm more annoyed that Rice Violet DID NOT remedy the situation by immediately remaking the meal and sending it to me on their dime. Yelp reimbursed me but Rice Violet did nothing. read more

VEGETARIAN HEAVEN!! With a fish allergy, requested to have curry made without fish paste. My pallet has never thanked me more! Can enjoy the complimenting flavors of massaman curry and the delightful spice of yellow curry with tangy pineapple again. Tofu is always made perfectly too.
