When staying here at the Capitola Hotel you can't beat the location and how you can basically walk to anything and everything in the area. While the room for one night ran me $500+ it was worth it because of the proximity of everything around the hotel. Customer service and booking the room was great. Although it was an additional cost for a reserved parking spot, again very worth it. Capitola Hotel has a small lobby that offers continental breakfast every morning. While the main room was small, it still fit a comfy king size bed and the bathroom was huge. Capitola Hotel has 10 different room themes, so each layout is different. Peep the rooms to make sure you are booking the correct room of choice. Only complaint that I have while staying here is, you can't sleep with the windows open because you hear the drunkies from the bar next door and throughout the night you hear nothing but the seagulls mating and talking to each other, even with the windows closed. Didn't get a real good nights sleep when we stayed here. Other than this, I would still stay here again in the future.

Lots of translucent panels that lit up the inside with daylight. There is no pool but there is a large hot tub. Parking was inexpensive ($15/night). It was ample (I have a 4x4 4 door truck and had no problem). The only thing was the toilet in our room flushed very slowly. But the other facilities we used flushed fine. Great place for a family, close to other amenities (gas station, food) and great restaurants around. Pictures on their website are accurate.

We arrived in Santa Cruz on July 3rd at 2:15pm and asked if they would allow us to check in a little early. The woman who claimed to be a supervisor said our room was ready and we could check in early for a $25 fee or come back at 3pm. To check in 45 min early?? Then I told her I didn't actually need the room yet since we planned to be at the boardwalk until closing so I literally just wanted to check in and get a key because the other alternative was a late night check in. She said that's fine if we check in before 11pm. I let her know I don't know if we will be back before 11pm. She said she will make a note. Meanwhile my friends who stayed next door at The Islander had no problems checking in early without extra fees and free parking. We come back around midnight and there is no parking in their garage. I talk to the person at the front desk and although she was pleasant and nice, she said we had no option but to park on the street and to make sure we read the street signs. Seriously?? Fortunately by the time we finished unloading and were about to park, someone pulled out of the smallest parking spot ever and I am so fortunate for the opportunity to pay their $15 parking fee. We finally get to the room which was actually really nice, spacious, and clean. However, there was no shower gel in the pump and I was not going to call the front desk mid shower and in the middle of the night. The sink outside of the bathroom barely has water trickling when you turn it on all the way. There was a lovely alarm of hard stomping at 6am from the hotel guests above us. They did offer complimentary breakfast 7a-10a of sausage links, scrambled eggs, bagels, sliced bread, banana muffins, waffles, cereal, apples and oranges. That was nice but I prefer the offering at the best western in capitola instead. Overall, I would recommend staying at The Islander next door where hotel is cheaper, parking is free, there are no additional fees to check in early if your room is ready, and the money you save can buy you a better breakfast. Either that or stay at the best western in capitola!

My husband and I just got married and we decided to take a trip up the coast - we had no plan. Just driving and stopping when we got tired and this place was perfect. I'm sad it was only for one night. Upon arrival we were greeted by a sweet older gentleman who offered us homemade cookies and they were delicious! There was a tea and coffee machine in the front too. I didn't try it but it was a nice touch. I didn't venture out into the breakfast area but my husband got us breakfast and I've never had a hotel breakfast that was so good! There were even biscuits and gravy and parfait cups! The food was well seasoned and so good. The rooms were super clean too! I usually wipe down hotel rooms for my own peace of mind and doing so here, my sanitizer wipe was practically clean! We got the king room with a spa tub and there was a couch along with two side tables - microwave and mini fridge too. Also the hand soaps, lotions, body wash, ect was citrus scented and didn't leave my hands or body feeling dry. Also the town was so cute - we are definitely coming back and staying here again!

The grounds are beautiful, whether you just look out from the stately house, or if you wander on some of the trails -- maybe set for a spell on a bench. If you're looking to exhale and then breathe in amazing nature, you have found the place! The room is very comfortable, too. Our bathroom was plenty big and roomy. Loved the big bath (whirlpool, if you like). The 'full breakfast' is fantastic. Jen is a wonderful baker (a breakfast bread pudding one day; mini churros another day), and each morning we had a varied and hearty breakfast that was delicious and well-balanced. The house itself is big and inviting with hip old timey jazz pipedor more modern-day chanteuses gently piped in. Enclosed porch for reading or just relaxing. Our room had a private porch, too. So much here. So many ways to really unwind. Walking around the grounds is inspiring. I ran into Derek a time or two who was relaxed but busy on the many projects that keep him focused here. The whole place looks perfect for a wedding, or a family gathering, or even a business get-away. Or, of course, just a simple, lowkey retreat. Lovely hidden (but easy to find) gem.
