So many reptiles, so little time!
    Carlene S.

Enjoyed most of our first visit here with our son who's just about 5 years old. Admission to the visitor center is free to the general public. A large wooden playground is mostly fenced in and shaded with seating for parents. One major complaint, they had tires lined up (like a tunnel) for children to climb through which were filled with water and breeding mosquitoes...my legs & feet were royally chewed up! Anyhow, we loved the owl, bearded dragon and many other creatures. I've read that this used to be a family owned dairy farm and has 2-1/2 miles of nature trails...make sure you bring the bug repellant and enjoy!

    See the new big playground!

156 acre nature preserve with 3 miles of kid-friendly hiking. 2 acre pond with frogs, turtles and waterfowl in season, 2 picnic pavilions, boardwalk wetland self-guided trail with the Donna Lindgren tree trail ID plaques, community gardens, and brand new big playground with new slides, tunnels, swings, and platforms.

Shot some pictures at the nature center for a friend on their wooden bridge trail

We love taking our grandkids to this park and nature center. Lots of activities for them to enjoy and big trees to provide shade

Road was closed to vehicular traffic, but the walk was nice and gradual, all of it on what seemed to be new macadam. After about 1.6 miles, road forks. To the right is a short walk to Judge's Cave. To the left, a short walk to the scenic overlook. Interesting story commemorated on a plaque on the cave. Very few other people, and almost as many dogs. Scenic overlook kind of blah....no water views, but at an elevation of about 600 ft. Overall, a beautiful day. Breezy, shaded by a nice canopy most of the way. Good way to stretch the legs, and learn an interesting piece of history.

As for driving up on West Rock Ridge State Park, the road paved was a smooth drive. The State Park was not too crowded. It was perfect weather and breezy that one can feel the tranquility. The people we had encountered easy going and friendly. The goal was to check out Scenic Overlook route. The weather made it perfect with clear blue skies and the clouds -Wow. The scenic overlook route had several spots to check out the view. As well to check out, John's Cave was truly incredible intriguing site & the history. Perhaps there might be better links, but this link gives some informational insight for "John's Cave" : https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/judges-cave Next time, it will be to adventure out onto the trails. Till next time...

My mother has been a resident of the Willows since 2013. Still there 2018…read more When I read the negative reviews some people leave it makes me angry. The treatment, the care, the love, yes love, given to my mother is extraordinary. Her medical needs are always treated quickly with positive outcomes. And, may I say the staff has caught things very early and treatment was given before conditions escalated for the worse. I show up randomly and unannounced and always find my mother clean, fed, odor-free and in good spirits under her dementia circumstances. I often have to track her down in recreation or the hair-dresser - another wonderful extra service available. Her aides and nurses are attentive, competent and caring. The activity programs at the Willows are excellent with more very caring people working hard to engage the residents every single day. The administration and front-end social services department are attentive, on target and superb. Ever walk into some nursing homes and the smell of urine will knock you over? NEVER EVER a hint of an odor at the Willows. The place is immaculate - public areas and residents' rooms. As for laundry, if you want your loved one's laundry to be like you'd do it at home - bouncy, soft, extra gentle and delicate - get real. This is industrial style with lots of necessary bacteria-killing detergents to ensure safety. You must label the clothing so Rick knows who it belongs to. They do their best. You have the option of taking the family laundry home for that special touch. Do it if that's a concern. And, don't buy designer clothing at great expense unless you 're taking it home. My only question for the negative reviewers is, "Where was your loved one staying? It can't be the same place. It can't be The Willows of Woodbridge." Thank you all for giving my mother her home. It's a place I know where she is safe, cared for and loved. GS - Woodbridge, CT

A smile and positive attitude should be the absolute minimum expected for those employed here. The staff at the front desk wi barely look up to address you when you walk in. The nurse supervisors are equally unpleasant to deal with. I initially thought my mother was being a bit dramatic when she complained about the treatment, especially overnight, until I witnessed the nursing staff completely ignore an elderly man calling for assistance. I had to speak up for that gentleman and ask the nurse to help. And please, please, please don't ask the nursing staff for any updates on medical information regarding your loved ones because they will fill sentences with air in hopes that you won't probe for more information. I am urgently trying to get my mother out of this facility as soon as possible. I would not send my enemy to be taken care of if a place like this. Unacceptable!
