Our experience with Anthony & Sylvan Pools was incredibly disappointing and, unfortunately, became a source of stress and frustration that continues to this day. Once the contract for our new pool was signed, communication declined dramatically and customer service became extremely poor. Our pool was one of the first projects started in the spring, yet it wasn't filled with water until September. The company would begin work and then disappear for weeks at a time with little to no communication about delays or scheduling. One of the biggest issues involved the plaster finish. We paid extra for a dark blue pool color, but the finished product was nowhere near what we selected. Instead of a rich dark blue, the pool ended up a light baby blue/sky blue. In addition to the incorrect color, the plaster contained visible footmarks, streaking, and other cosmetic defects. When we raised these concerns, we were repeatedly told that acid washes and treatments would resolve the issues. Multiple acid washes were performed, but nothing improved. The color never changed, and instead we experienced significant wear and damage to our filtration system from the repeated treatments. After months of excuses and failed attempts, the company finally agreed that the pool needed to be replastered. We were assured that the new plaster would be darker, stronger, and a permanent solution. Unfortunately, after the very first winter, cracks appeared throughout the pool and sections of plaster began flaking off. When we contacted the company again, we were told that because the pool was not actively losing water, the cracking and deterioration were considered "normal" and would not be covered. This review is actually a very abbreviated version of what we experienced. For more than five years, I attempted to work with Anthony & Sylvan to address these issues. Each time I was met with delays, excuses, or outright refusal to honor what I believed should have been covered under warranty. What was especially discouraging was hearing from multiple employees and subcontractors who came to our home over the years that our situation was not unique. Several indicated that customer complaints were common, that warranty claims were routinely denied, and that customers were often delayed and redirected until they eventually gave up pursuing repairs. At one point I considered legal action, but was told by employees that the company had attorneys readily available and was largely unconcerned about lawsuits. Whether true or not, that attitude reflected the overall experience we had as customers. A swimming pool should be a wonderful addition to a home and a source of enjoyment for a family. Instead, every time I look at ours, I am reminded of years of frustration, unfulfilled promises, and a significant financial investment that never delivered the quality we were sold. I needed a new pool cleaner and went into the store and talked to Troy. Troy is very knowledgeable.We have had a few pool cleaners since 1980 when Sylvan installed the pool.Troy talked to me about a few different cleaners but I kept coming back to the Polaris Alpha cleaner.It's the best cleaner I have ever had and gets the job done in 2 hours.THANK YOU TROY you're the best. read more

It smelled horrible. *They left raw pipe exposed in the pool *The 5 spa jets were to be replaced as they were yellowed. *They plastered in the 5 jets *Left them with no directional screwed in and 5 random directionals on my table that didn't even fit. *Left trash. *Someone came to try to fix jets a few weeks later and then chipped the old yellowed ones and its still in there. *There is a footprint in the middle of the spa plaster *After several social media posts someone finally got back to me *Then trespassed on property while I was away to try to fix the mistates when I told them not to come unless I am there to supervise *Left my pool with a layer of debris just in time for 4th of July read more

I had work done by A&S pools about 2 years ago. They were not on time and the work was contracted out to other subcontractors from out of state. No one takes responsibility for poor work. I do not recommend using Anthony & Sylvan Pools. Find a local contractor who has good references and go check the pools that they've done. My pool's plaster is cracking and staining in ways that show how poorly it was done since day one. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - DESERVES ZERO STARS We contracted with Anthony & Sylvan's representative Mike Niello after a two hour zoom call and numerous emails. Mike offered discounts and set deadlines for those discounts to expire to close the deal as quickly as possible. While we felt rushed, we believed what he told us. During our conversation I took copious notes and have numerous email exchanges asking questions about the contract and the process of pool building. I was asked for a deposit of $5000 to get the contract moving. I was told $2500 was for the plans and $2500 was for A&S. Because we had not yet moved from CA to PA and did not own the home yet, we agreed that if the house did not close or the township did not allow us to build as planned A&S would refund our $2500 and the plans would be ours since we had paid for them. This seemed fair and reasonable. We were also told we would be put on the schedule to dig once we paid the $5000. We were never put on a dig schedule. He told us that the township's impervious coverage allotment was 15% and thought we would have about 1000-1200 square feet to build the pool and patio. He planned for a 600 sq foot pool, 100 square feet of coping and a 500 square foot patio. Once the plans came back, we were told we'd have to remove 380 feet of patio or already existing impervious or go for a variance which would be "an uphill battle" as our need was not a hardship. So instead of having 1200, we had 820. This is 68% of what was promised. Way off estimate. He looked at arial photos and estimated our fence would be approximately 400+ linear feet. When I had his fence representative measure (and other companies), it was 700 linear feet. This is 75% over his estimate. Again, way off. He told me that the water management pit would be between 4-6K. While I have not been given a price from A&S (as I had asked for) because it is a full pit, it will be much more costly. Way off estimate. Once we agreed to cancel the contract, the plans which were to be ours per our conversations and emails with Mike Neillo were held hostage unless we paid an overage of $6000. There was no proof of any billing, just an email from Regional Sales Manager, Ed Maloney, saying if we wanted the plans, we had to pay an additional $6000. Our experience with Mike Neillo and Anythony & Sylvan was less than positive. Mike Neillo was unprofessional, arrogant, and dismissive. He put us in a "bait and switch" situation, promising way more than he could deliver. As a self-proclaimed 30+ year professional in the business how could he be so wrong? My interaction with Ed Maloney, Regional Sales Manager, has been brief but seems to be consistent with Mike Neillo's methodology - bully the customer to get what you want. Requiring an additional $6000 for the plans that were promised for $2500 and not returning the other $2500 as promised is extortion. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND USE ANOTHER COMPANY FOR YOUR POOL! read more

I wish i can give negative stars!!!!! I am base out of Philadelphia, the folk that work in the Northeast area are the worst! It has been almost 3 month and no one hasn't come to finish my salt system. They were suppose to install a gas pool heater and didn't tell me I would have to get a plumber to install a gas line. After I got someone to install the gas line, they told me they wouldn't connect the heater at this point I decided to just cancel the heater and it been several week and I haven't heard about getting my refund. If you're planning to redo your pool. I would 100% not recommend using this company. I spoke with several folks and all I hear is we will take care of it, but nothing has been done. read more

My cousin and I acquired Anthony & Slyvan's service and it has now been 9 months and our pool is still not completed. The company has offered no concessions to alleviate the delay and continues to inform us that they are working on getting the right materials and equipment to complete the job. Hired Anthony Sylvan & Sons bc I wanted great company and one stop shop for putting in a pool. Got anything but that. The worst customer service I've ever received. No one responds/acts till you reach a breaking point and truly hound them. Paid my pool in full via the swim cash thing and took almost two years to get a finished product. Still to this day have issues and company won't respond. Had to go off contract for decking and paid out of pocket above contact. AS&S still owes us money but has been as silent as a church mouse on that front. End product could be great but really not worth the cost and added time you'll need to dedicate in order to get them to respond to any correspondence. Would not recommend unless you have the time to pester them. Project manger Harold is very nice and apologetic but unfortunately has no real authority of power so can only empathizes with you (us). read more

We had a sales rep come out to our house for a pool renovation. Fred was extremely rude and offensive. I would never recommend this company based off of this interaction. He left aggressive voicemails and acted annoyed he was coming out. The quote was also higher than other local companies. I AM REPOSTING THIS REVIEW AT THE REQUEST OF THE MODERATORS FROM YELP. Apparently, there is significant sensitivity to lumping other Anthony Sylvan locations with the Doylestown, PA location! Wonder why, especially as they all follow the same business practices. I am sure as the Discovery process unfolds in the legal system, we will find out more! In the meantime, here is the review posted again (with some additional details). Given the request to make is specific to the Doylestown, PA location, I have added the initials of the project team leaders from Anthony Sylvan without disclosing their full names. So, here you go... We recently had our pool renovated by Anthony Sylvan, Doylestown office. The project leadership comprised of DE, AZ and AB. To put it simply, Anthony Sylvan performance was absolutely disastrous. Anything that could go wrong did go wrong. In talking with numerous other pool experts, it seems this is a consistent problem with Anthony Sylvan. They have no crews of their own and use only subcontractors who are not always experienced or reliable. Majority of the members of these rotating casts of subcontracting crews did not speak a word of English making it impossible to have any meaningful communication with them. Even Anthony Sylvan's own people, including in this case one of the above mentioned project co-leaders, are not very knowledgeable and give wrong advice that is contrary to their own company's policies (this was confirmed directly to us by the other project co-leaders). In our case, this turned out to be the most significant (mis)recommendation that has led to multiple downstream consequences where the only solution is to tear up the whole thing (and the surrounding recently renovated patio) and start all over again! And this project team co-leader still insists that he is right and the company is wrong in stating otherwise. And as far as we know, he is still working for Anthony Sylvan. Go figure! Project management and project oversight is poor to non-existent. The overall workmanship is shoddy. Every independent pool expert who has come to review the site since then spontaneously exhorts "this looks like an Anthony Sylvan job"! I suspect that I am not the only one who has had such a bad experience with Anthony Sylvan. If others have had similar experience, I would like to explore formal expansion of legal steps, including possible class-action litigation given their overall business practices. Of course, if my negative experience is an outlier, then no need to broader the legal actions. I welcome feedback from others. read more

If you want to do business with a company who provides a well constructed pool,good customer service, is fair minded, available to take your calls and promptly return your calls, DO NOT spend your hard earned money on the pleasure of your own backyard pool that you, family and friends will enjoy for years without major problems and expecting someone in the company to give 1 hoot about your issues, then by all means don't pass up the chance to invest your money into a pool by Anthony Sylvan! After their initial sale, they don't want to know you! They do not want to know you after the first problem, second problem and especially after the 3rd -having to redo the pool each time! Be advised that this company will not accept accountability; nor will they make any gesture of trying to assist in paying for the pool to be filled by the water tank trucks that cost over $ 380 each! The manager in particular is a cold unprofessional who could care less if you have a problem that was verified by their diver, their engineer and other personnel who examined and confirmed that pockets of water had formed below the plaster causing bright white bubbled spots on the pools floor. This company lacks integrity in general, while taking your money and then not caring 1iota about customer satisfaction! If you want to save yourself aggravation and frustration to the point of tears, please do yourself a favor and shop for another company who spends less on marketing by way of false advertising as depicted in the advertisements, brochures and mailings. With our most recent restoration they did not show 2 times without so much as the courtesy to call to inform us even after we had left several messages on voice mail - with no return call in a timely manner. The customer service reps are not responsive to your needs. While they may sound as if they care when you finally do speak with them, they really do not! After all of the hassle we went through with this company, I had asked if we could be compensated in some way by the company, more directly- helping by Sharing the cost of filling the cost of the water as this was the 3rd time we were filling our pool because of poor workmanship. This is the second time I have contracted with Anthony Sylvan Pools over a 20 year period. This current reno involved new coping, tile and re-plaster our pool. I first dealt with David Brooks a Reno Specialist with A&S Pools who provided us with expert service in selecting the material and scheduling when the work would be done. As the reno date approached in early May of 2022 I was then contacted by Jane in the scheduling department who kept us informed of the daily operations from demo to prep and then installation of the new coping and tile and then the final phase of plastering the pool. During this phase John Zammit the Renovation Project Manager was very attentive and appeared numerous times to make sure everything was on schedule and that the installation was being done properly. We agreed to a split renovation in August of 2018 and the coping and tile work was completed at the end of September. My wife contacted Matt Morrison on September 27th about an issue with the tile work and spillway on the dam wall. The tile work and grouting was uneven. The grout line on the dam wall expanded from 1/4 of an inch to 3/4 of an inch and the wall was not square. we received no response, so we contacted Corey Coughenour in October. Corey decided that it would be best addressed in the spring. Before the crew came to resurface the pool, we asked if someone would be able to come out and address the issue with the dam wall. We were told that the crew would address the issue on the second day before the pool was resurfaced. When the crew arrived, I spoke to them about the issue, which they knew nothing about, so I asked them to contact the Corey. When we returned home from work, the pool had been resurfaced and the issue with the wall and tile had not been fixed. I called and spoke to Michelle and she asked me to send her pictures of the issue, so I did. She called back later and said they would send someone out to look at the problem. After almost a month of constant phone calls an emails to try and get someone to come out to look at the issue, we finally were able to get an appointment for someone from Anthony and Sylvan to come out to our house on June 5th to look at the issues. My wife took the day off from work and spent a majority of the day working in the front and backyard and no one ever showed up. When she called Michelle, my wife was told that someone had been there and found no issues. When I asked what time or who had been to the house, no one could provide me with an answer, so I just figured that no one had ever showed up. After three more weeks of phone calls and emails, Jack Niebuhr finally called and made an appointment to come to our house on June 25th. Jack filed a report and said that someone would be in touch shortly. That was three weeks ago, and no one with the company has called or emailed. I have called or emailed eight different people at the company, including the general manager, the sales manager, the renovation construction manager, the construction manager, and the aftermarket construction experience manager. In my 13 years as a homeowner, it's the worst customer service experience I've ever encountered. We've been fighting with them for ten months to make a repair that can be completed in less than an hour. read more

I have had a nightmare with Sylvan Pools right from the beginning. They collected a $70,000 deposit and began the excavation and sprayed the gunite immediately and then everything went down hill. I couldn't get a hold of the project manager for months to clean up the disaster and dangerous debris they left in my yard..including a pile of very sharp rebar, rocks, pvc pipes, excess coping and tile and stone. I finally got someone to come out and move on to the next step, which was the stone veneer on the waterfall wall and underground drainage. The drains were clearly not installed correctly causing my yard and now my neighbors yard to completely flood during heavy rains...so bad that my neighbors shed is about to fall onto my fence. And the same guy installed the incorrect stone on the wall...refused to change it to the correct stone or refund my money...just offered to correct the poor workmanship! He was then fired from the job and another landscaper came in to clean up the yard and install the pavers. He attempted to correct the drains but to no avail. After reaching out to the fence company myself, I got them to come install my fence but I have to pay extra to have the existing fence removed which they apologized the Sylvan left off the contract. The plumber then came to install the water bowls on the stone wall but the original stone guy never attached the blue stone tops so he left the bowls in my garage and left. Now I am waiting for plaster and for someone to come fix my and my neighbor's flooding situation and I am getting no where. I am now forced to seek legal council to fix this SIX FIGURE MESS that has been going on for 8 months!!! Needless to say I am beyond furious! read more

Worst experience of our homeownership. We carefully described what we were looking for in our pool restoration and their salesman promised "showpiece" results. BUT, the final quality is a ridiculous insult. They advertise "70 Years" but they actually use so-called "professional" subs to do the work who don't have NEAR that experience or obligation to the pool owner. The subs contract to do the work and seem to have only (1) day to complete it, regardless of the necessary time it should take to do a quality job. THAT APPROACH IS A PLAN THAT HAS NO FOCUS ON YOUR SATISFACTION. NOT ONCE in our $28k renovation did an A-S Manager EVER show up to monitor the procedures, present a Construction Work Plan or check on our satisfaction. We were treated like nuisance callers. Sloppy prep, last minute scheduling, damage and staining to our yard (and neighbor's) and house, used our pumps and hoses which got damaged, CRACKED the new wall tiles, damaged pool lamp, the new plaster is stained, blotched, streaked and doesn't come close to what we were told (and SOLD) to expect. Now our spa system no longer works properly due to their feckless planning. When we initially called for follow-up, we were told that the results are NOW what we are to expect. After (16) months of complaining about the shoddy quality, they ONLY respond when we post our dissatisfaction, otherwise, they could care less. It's the ONLY way to get their attention. Their Customer Service does NOT exist, so we can't even comment on how bad it is. After we took down our initial posts, our negotiations to resolve our concerns failed when they came up short with a cheap substitute to what we actually paid for already, pretty much telling us that what we have ALREADY PAID FOR now can't be delivered. BE FOREWARNED...!!! This was our most expensive mistake in (30) years of pool ownership. DO NOT CONSIDER THIS "BROKER" AT ALL - THEY DON'T ACTUALLY DO THE WORK AND THEY WON'T ACT RESPONSIBLY FOR WHATEVER THE RESULTS. You don't get "70 Years", you'll get whatever the "sub" provides the day of that service and there's NOBODY from A-S to ever show up to make sure it was done correctly. Invest your money in another family-owned business (and there are several good ones) who can do the work THEMSELVES and they stand by it. BEST decision you can make. It took longer than expected due to material shortages but they did their very best to keep communications open and kept things moving under these pandemic circumstances. Worst experience ever. Failed every inspection at least once, scheduling is poorly handled with lack of communication beginning immediately after the close of the sale. The only thing they are good at is calling for your payment before work begins. They sub ALL work out to other contractors who they have no control over so getting someone to come back and fix their bad work is near impossible. As for the Project Manager, we only saw once and he never interceded on our behalf to get anything done. Completely missing in action. Please do your homework and find a better pool company. We are almost ONE YEAR from beginning our pool project and we are nowhere near completion. Basic communication goes a long way, but it takes days to get a simple phone call returned and they just say 'sorry we're busy'. They might be good at opening and closing a pool (I can't say myself since it appears my pool may never even get filled), but they are completely incompetent at building one. read more

We are the original builders of our swimming pool 38 years ago. Sylvan Pools of Doylestown was our contractor. 13 years ago we had the plaster redone, while it was still Sylvan. They did a very good job. A couple of years ago the tiles started to fall off. We lost approximately 100 tiles. Couldn't replace them, not manufactured any longer. We contracted Anthony-Sylvan this past April to replace tile and coping along with new filter. Everything proceeded on time except with an email that went to spam folder at 11pm on a Wednesday night. The pool was empty, the tile/coping was to begin on Friday morning, all good. Guys didn't show up to start job. No response from salesman and scheduler when I called and sent emails to the. That Friday afternoon I finally got a phone call from the scheduler. The email that went to spam folder told me that the tile (due to go in Friday morning) was not in stock. They offered a much less attractive 3x3 tile that I think they expected us to accept because the pool was empty. Felt they backed us into a corner where we had to accept tile we weren't happy with. After I sent enough emails and made enough phone calls, the scheduler called and offered us other options. Choose a different tile, they had the installers come on a Sunday morning. That was fine. They did a very nice job. Filled the pool, turned the new filter on (it lealed). They sent their guys who repaired the problem. Filter works great. This happened after my husband went out to the Reno department in Doylestown and insisted on talking to the manager. He said, good news. You should be getting you Mastic in sooner than expected, this past week. Didn't happen. No response again to emails or phone calls. The gap between the coping and decking has alot of jagged edges and seems to be getting larger. This didn't happen when the company was strictly Sylvan. Still waiting for my Mastic and or at least a return phone call. Customer service is a very important part of business and Anthony-Sylvan Doylestown leaves a lot to be desired. read more

After working very closely with Owen, he finally got everything resolved and we were able to enjoy our pool for the remainder of the season.

I wish I had checked yelp before deciding to use Anthony Sylvan Pool for my pool renovation, trusting in a big company who installed my pool many years ago. I signed the contract in April and was told the project would start in June due to scheduling. When no one followed up with me and I called in July, I was told the tiles that I ordered were out of stock and I had to choose other tiles from their remaining limited options. I had no choice but to comply. Demolition started on time with my first payment, but no one returned thereafter to finish my one week project. No one replied to my emails. Phone was unanswered and no one returned my voicemails. It was the staff from Aquaduck who had an internal connection and helped me to get hold of someone. The project was rescheduled three times with the same process of no one showing up and being unable to get hold of anyone to find out the situation, while the pool was left dry, collecting puddles of rain, mosquitoes and stains. Finally the project was completed end of August. The pool cover was ordered along with my first payment in July. I was told it normally takes 6-8 weeks for delivery. At 8 weeks, in September, ready to close the just opened pool, I was told it would take 8-10 weeks. That became 10-12 weeks when I checked again. Now it is end of October and it has been 13 weeks since ordering. I called multiple times and finally got hold of someone who said that she would pass the message onto the manager who would call me back, which of course no one did. When I called again the next day demanding the name and number of the manager, I found out that it was just an answering service who does not work for Anthony Sylvan and has no idea who the manager is! Finally the staff responsible for my job answered my email after 2 weeks, stating that she found out the manufacturer has not even started to make my pool cover yet! No apology. No explanation. No prediction for when the product will come. I still have no answer as of today what to expect. It has been an outrageous experience. I will report to BBB. read more

They have zero committment to customer service, they require payment in full before the work is completed and then leave you stranded when they cause more damage to your pool than what they are fixing. Should have known from the start. Took 3 calls to get someone to call us back. Finally had a salesman, Dave Brooks, come out and had to call him 3 times to book a renovation on our pool after we were given a quote. Project started 4/27/2020 and has been a mess. No one has called us to check on the project. We have wrote about 20 emails to our scheduler, Austin Brady to find out what to expect next. Only one crew showed up when they were supposed to. I was never given updates unless I emailed someone and it is now 7/12/2020 and we are still waiting on getting a railing that we paid for. After having a sales appointment with this company, my husband and I had a negative interaction with our sales specialist when we had follow up questions. I communicated with the company that I was unhappy with the unprofessional treatment of the situation. A member of their team was quick to reach out to my husband and I to try to resolve the situation and set things right. They were prompt, professional and promised to stay close to the process as we move forward. It is unrealistic to think that these challenges may not occur from time to time but in my opinion a company that quickly steps up and tries to address the situation head-on is worth giving a second chance. read more

I wish I could give them no stars. Worst experience ever. Pool not drawn to scale, charged me for extra decking since their drawing were wrong, gave me an improper cover for my pool which now requires three pumps. put the equipment too close to the pool, charged me to move and there is just so much more, had to rebuild the sunshelf, of course late on the delivery. There is just so much more. They refuse to own up to their mistakes and now we have to go to arbitration. I would not recommend these guys whatsoever. There are many other companies out there you should consider. read more

Great company. Glenn and Steve S opened up my pool today and could not have gone smoother. They took the time as they always do to go over the workings of my system and what to put in and hen to have a great looking pool as fast as possible. They also closed it last year, so when the cover was taken off this year, pool looked ready to jump in! I will continue to do business with A&S for many years to come for all my pool needs. read more

Anthony and Sylvan built my pool touting a lifetime "structural" warranty. After just 5 years rebar wore through the gunite. I called A&S and she admitted that it was caused by them spreading the Gunite to thin on install.....she said "we see it all the time". She would be happy to send someone out to fix it but it was going to be a $300 charge because apparently faulty workmanship and rebar coming through concrete aren't "structural"! If the rebar isn't structural what is...the dirt around it??? Came to an agreeable solution with A&S and they stood by their product. Other than this instance....My pool has been incredible! Terrible! We hired them to put a new stamped concrete deck on our pool. We hired them because they put in the pool originally. This new work was subcontracted to ACD. Cost: more than $35,000 in total. We were very unhappy as soon as work was done and told them. A and S demand full payment before they will complete work. Now of course, they do not return phone calls and have not corrected situation. Awful to deal with. Now we are forced to take legal action. AVOID!! read more

Anthony & Sylvan met and exceeded our expectations. We had a pool project started on August 10th and were swimming by early September. A record 18 business day build. The quality of construction, build process and people involved were exceptional. Would definitely recommend this company to a friend. read more
