Reading some of the reviews right before my appointment I was wondering what I would be in for here. In the end, the experience was great. When I go to a medical professional, I like having someone who will tell me things straight and is confident. Dr. Rega was very encouraging and my extraction went by very quickly. I didn't catch the name of the tech who brought me in, but she answered a lot of my questions also and gave honest advice. I also thought my teeth were in bad shape, but Dr. Rega let me know he's seen much worse and that he can tell I'm at least taking steps to take care of things dentally, which is also encouraging. I had a little bit of confusion in regards to my bill- over the phone when I scheduled the appointment I was told I would have a cost of $339 for the extraction since I've maxed out my insurance. Then when I got there they did an x-ray which cost about $100 or so dollars (didn't know they were going to do one since my main dentist had sent some over). Then they said that what comes out of pocket for me will actually be less because of the contracted amount with my insurance. I ended up paying less than I thought I was going to, but the whole thing was still a bit confusing until another gentleman came to the front desk to help explain. Hopefully I won't have to come back to this review to talk about receiving an unexpected bill, as I did explain that I had maxed out my insurance and wanted to pay everything up front. So..if I could give separate reviews- 5 stars for Dr. Rega and the tech, 3.5 stars for feeling confused about the bill- 1 for being blindsided by the x-ray and 2 for just not feeling super clear once I was at the office after thinking I was clear on the amount over the phone. read more

I recently had a molar extraction performed by Dr. Rega, and I have to say that was one of the easiest, painfree dental experiences ever, and that is saying a lot, since I've been having extensive dental work (not just cleanings) since age 7! Dr. Rega's preliminary consultation helped put me at ease, and explained all the options for my broken molar, which could not be fixed. He explained dental implants, but didn't pressure me to make that decision, just gave me the necessary information so that I could make that choice myself sometime in the future. I made my appointment for the following week (to get up the nerve to face my first permanent tooth extraction!), but my tooth had other plans, and the next day it began to throb. So I called the office and they worked me in that afternoon, no problem. The office staff knew I was a bit apprehensive, so they all put me at ease, explained everything that was going to be done, made sure I was comfortable, joked with me to lighten the mood, and most of all made sure the novocain took full effect before starting, which I really appreciated!! By the way, I've never had a tooth "blocked" so expertly before, only the tooth and a small surrounding area was totally numb, I could still talk, no drooling, and not have to pick up my lip from the floor! LOL!!! Once I was numb, the extraction and small amount bone implanting (done to help build up the jaw for possible future dental implant) literally took just 5 minutes. The extraction was a bit creepy, because I knew what was happening, and it makes a slight crunching noise (ick!), but that is normal, and mercifully brief! I was prescribed some painkillers but never had to take them, as I've not had one bit of pain. I'm sure part of that is due to luck in not developing "dry socket", which unfortunately just seems to happen to some people, but also due to Dr. Rega's precision and attention to detail. If given a choice, I'd rather not have any more oral surgery (even in the best of cases it ranks right up there with IRS Audits and colonoscopies!!) but if I do, it's very comforting to know that I'll be well taken care of by Dr. Rega and his entire staff!! read more

I do not understand some of the poor reviews here, but Dr. Rega and his staff was very professional, pleasant, and presented some excellent customer service. He was very thorough in explaining to me what I was dealing with (3 impacted wisdom teeth) and provided me with options on how to proceed with surgery. He was very knowledgeable and explained step-by-step everything that he was going to do to make things go as smooth as possible (which went flawlessly). He really made me feel at ease especially since I was sort of "freaking out" in my head. The technology they had at their disposal was simply state-of-the-art and very clean! The panoramic X-ray really wow'd me and the X-ray itself was presented via computer screen. Very cool. Was In & out within 30minutes - having all 3 wisdom teeth extracted from my head. Felt nothing the entire procedure and was told SPECIFICALLY WHAT TO DO post-operation. Also received a follow-up telephone call from the office to see how I was doing. Once again, outstanding customer service. Would most definitely recommend this place to a friend. read more

I was referred by my general dentist to Dr. Rega for an implant. I began the process about 8 months ago with the tooth extraction, the insertion of the implant screw and also the scan for the crown. Dr. Rega was great from start to finish. His staff at the Fremont office have been excellent as well. I was very nervous and Dr. Rega explained every step of the process and put my nerves at ease. I never waited more than 5 minutes to be seen and his staff always took the time to answer all of my questions. If you need an implant I highly recommend Dr. Rega. read more

The doctor is incredibly friendly, and does a great job of calming any nervousness you might have. The staff is friendly, energetic, and very timely too (no long waits in the waiting room). The doctor took time to answer all of my questions, and even called twice after my surgery to check up on how things had gone - very appreciated! If I could give 10 stars I would. I was in need of a tooth extraction asap and after calling all over and finding nobody that could take me for at least two weeks I came across Dr. Rega. I am so happy I did too. I havent experienced tooth pain like this ever! It was awful! I called at 8am and they got me in at 10:30 that same morning! As excited as I was to get this done I have medical issues with my jaw that make dentist appts hard to get through. He came in and read thru my history and asked questions and made me extremely comfortable. I trusted him 100%. His assistant and everyone on his staff were incredibly compassionate as well. He had my tooth out in what seemed like 5 minutes! I am sure the nitrous oxide was a huge help along with the numbing shots and well worth it. Dr. Rega and the Nurse/Assistant who helped him with the extraction were excellent. They made a point to make me feel at ease and worked with my other doctor's office to make sure the pain medication they prescribed would not interact with the medications I am on. That is why I am giving Dr. REGA 4 stars. The receptionist was absolutely awful. She lied to my doctor's office, my husband, and me. She purposely sent calls during business hours to the answering service and would not connect the Medical Assistant at my doctor's office to Dr. Rega or his Nursing staff. When I was in pain with no pain medication after a tooth extraction, she purposely made me wait and wait for days until I didn't need the medication. I know it sounds unbelievable. I wouldn't even believe this if it hadn't happened to me because it's just so weird. Why would anyone do that? I don't know why she decided to make this her personal agenda, it makes no sense. Just like all the other things this staff has done. It's a shame because the Surgeon and Nursing Staff are great. read more

I had to get a wisdom tooth yanked in a bit of a hurry, and Dr Rega's office had the earliest available slot. Never having had a tooth pulled before, I was a little anxious. I shouldn't have been. It was super fast, and mostly painless. The staff were all great, nurse was awesome, and Dr Rega was very cool and crazy efficient. Once he started working, it couldn't have been more than a minute before he was done. Dr. Rega took out my son's wisdom teeth a few years back without issue, so we returned to get my daughter's out. However, we have had nothing but problems scheduling, rescheduling, and cancelling (they called us to cancel because the assistant was going to be out sick the next day). First time my daughter went in, they blew out the vein when trying to get the IV inserted, so it had to be rescheduled. Then they called the day before the procedure to cancel due to the missing assistant. You have lost my business and any referral. Very unprofessional. read more

The antibiotic I was prescribed by Dr Rega after the Dental Implant has messed up my digestive system and as a result I had to go for a Colonoscopy. This guy turned out to be the biggest thief. While taking my wisdom tooth out he broke the tooth and left a sharp piece stuck to my gum. I tried to snake an immediate appointment and he did not see me for almost a whole week. By then the walls inside my mouth was chiseled by that sharp piece of tooth. I went to his office, he gave me more injections, took it out, and then charged me again for more service. Now I'm stuck with more charges for his bad service. Believe me, Do not go to him! I have no complaint about Dr. Rega's-performed tooth extraction. He was courteous and professional. My complaint is with business ethics his office's charging practices, which I tried to communicate back to the office, with no results. In my case, they performed an expensive, full-mouth panoramic X-ray, $131, prior to a single-tooth extraction. The office collects payment from their patients upfront. I wasn't charged for this X-ray, nor was I asked if this test had been done before and available from my other dentists (it had). For this reason, my Aetna insurance later denied this claim, which the office then passed on to me. On the top of this, the good doctor hasn't performed the extraction on the date of appointment, but sent me back, in pain, to my regular dentist, for a preparatory work. Dr. Rega and staff are wonderful. Dr. Rega explained every step of the process to my daughter with with humor and in simple to understand terms for a teenager to understand. He is very confident without being arrogant. The office was so patient and accommodating with me after having to cancel on them a few times. They answered all my questions (and there were many) and eased our minds that everything would be fine. My daughter had no problem getting all 4 wisdom teeth extracted with just a sedative and laughing gas, no general anesthesia. Much like many other comments, there seems to be deception when it comes to billing. We were told that insurance would have to pre-certify my daughters wisdom teeth extraction which was no big deal and expected. We were notified that the procedure was pre-approved so we scheduled it and had it completed. I get a notice in the mail from my insurance company that they are not going to pay anything on it as it was not medically necessary. I called the doctors office and talked to the office manager and they agreed that was a mistake and appealed... Again denied by the insurance company and left me with a $2,000 bill. I called three times and left messages with the office manager to call me to discuss the bill because I was not going to pay the entire $2000 since the only reason I scheduled the procedure is because we were told the insurance approved it. I didn't expect to not have to pay anything and I was going to work out an agreement that and pay it. Well, those three calls were never returned and now I get a collection letter in the mail today. This is absolutely ridiculous and I will NEVER recommend this office to any of my friends. The office staff is operating by lying to customers at the worst or inept/incompetent at best. Find another oral surgeon... there are plenty out there that will not try to screw you over. read more

After Dr. Rega was unable to diagnose the source of the pain from pain failed root canal, he in so many words accused me of making up the pain and being a drug seeker! I have been to this dentist. He is Okay but the Staff, a lady named KELLY is such a nightmare I cant go back. She is rude, sarcastic, conceited, and as always thinks she is so hot she doesnt have to be nice to the customers. I would not go back to him because she is too much. I have friends sho have been there and they think the same thing about her, why does he keep her she is spiteful and maybe he isnt aware of her rudeness to the patient. Really dont go there. I had my tooth extracted by Dr. Rega and it was a great experience. It was quick and painless. Dr. Rega is very clear on what to expect so there are no surprises. I wish I could say the same about his receptionist/benefits gal. She is very cold and told me that my implant portion was not covered at all. I thought that was strange so I checked with some other dentists and they told me that with the coverage I have, they were covered up to 60%. I then called her back and she said that Delta had quoted her wrong. Very odd, if you ask me. I am just curious if I was over charged for the extraction? He even added a nice bit of humor and seemed to read my mind on how I was feeling about the procedure and outcome, etc. and knew just what to say. My complaint is about the double-charge to my credit card. I was told the next morning after my procedure that this happened and that they would credit my card back. However, I do not understand why it took a whole week! Meanwhile, the double-charge appeared on my credit card statement. I had a terrific experience with Dr. Rega. I was referred to him by my general dentist who suggested a root canal after beginning the process of a crown replacement. I decided to opt for an extraction since I am 68 years old and figured it would be simpler and less expensive than a root canal and new crown. After getting an X-ray, Dr. Rega spent a lot of time and convinced me to do the other procedures other than extracting the tooth as I would be better off. He charged me nothing for the visit and we argued about it as I wanted to pay for the X-ray at least and he would not let me. I totally disagree with others that gave his office a low rating as my experience was 5-star. read more

Simply the finest, most understanding, nicest, gentlest, most professional and qualified oral surgeon I've ever been to. How many oral surgeons have I been to in my life that I can make such a statement. 6. Lots or "mouthal"l problems.. Dr Rega, Kelly, Linda, all are just as sweet and caring as it gets. After a top molar extraction (with a past history of dry sockets) Dr Rega explained how rare it is to get a dry socket in an upper molar but that if I managed to fit into that small statistic he would be on call whenever I was in pain. A pro true to his word all the way 'round. Ahhhhh, what a relief, people who care. When in fact, the inevitable dry socket happened, Dr Rega was on the phone immediately to tell me how to handle it. It was 10:30PM. It's been 4 days and I've seen him every day to change the packing material. Each time, he has been as gentle as possible, (dry sockets are unbelievably painful) while staying up-beat and fun and funny AND most importantly compassionate. It's Saturday and he's coming in to the office to see me again for the continued problem. I feel very comfortable with Dr. Rega and his whole staff. As far as follow-up phone calls the other "Yelper" complained about NOT getting...I can't explain it. Because the day after my extraction, Kelly called to check in on me. Then when the dry socket happened I almost felt like some sort of princess (okay I am one :) from all the amazing attention and kindness and follow- up from Dr Rega. Truly a remarkable Oral Surgeon with an incredible staff who are there because they care. How very rare and how very refreshing. Overall I was very impressed with my experience with Dr. Rega. He was friendly, honest, and seemed to care about me as a patient. I came to him to get my top two wisdom teeth removed and he did a great job. I cannot comment on how it would go if I had all 4 removed, but. if it is like my experience, I am sure he would do great, If you want more details about my experience, please read below. I was referred to Dr. Rega from my general dentist in Pleasanton to get my top 2 wisdom teeth removed. For those who do not know, the top two wisdom teeth are the easiest to removed as the bone in your upper jaw is softer then your bottom jaw bone. When you hear horror stories about wisdom teeth removal, it is in regards to the lower teeth. Getting the top 2 are easy to do and the recovery time is quick. Things I was impressed with: - He was always up front about risks and how the surgery would go - I never felt pressured in going forth with the surgery (it was not necessary for me to get them removed) - Scheduling the surgery was quick and easy (I called on Monday to schedule the surgery for Friday) - He made me laugh during the whole surgery - It was a quick surgery (5 mins!) - His staff called me the night of the surgery to check up on me read more

I had liked Dr. Rega and I wanted him to do the surgery on my daughter this morning, but we were turned away at the office with an anxiety ridden daughter because their office wanted full payment upfront (even payment for stuff they knew I didn't need to pay and fully covered by our insurance). When their assistant called me a couple days prior to check in for surgery, I told her we didn't have the predetermination paper yet and our insurance said it wasn't required (even though office staff said its required by insurance). This was not a problem then. However, this morning, they said they wouldn't do the surgery unless I paid upfront. This is not a requirement by our insurance even though that's what they said and they need to clearly communicate that up front if its their office policy. Terrible business on their part and clearly I see they have done this to other patients by reviews here on the site. Wow, just wanted to add, I really should have read the reviews before we wasted our time this morning. Everyone has the same complaint as I have, very interesting. read more

***FRAUD ALERT***Just do your homework when choosing this dentist. I saved myself $1,100 by researching and seeking a second opinion. My son had a consult/exam for 4 wisdom teeth extraction with Dr Rega. This doctor lied about the teeth said they were all partial bony extraction ( which more difficult = more money per tooth" None of the teeth were impacted partially bony, in fact two were not impacted at all. The other two had soft tissue impaction, which is pretty minor. When i realized the difference in the estimate from Dr Rega and my other dentist Dr. Cook i was shocked. The total amount Dr Rega wanted $2,460, and i ended up saving $1,100 and paid $1,420 for all four of the teeth. WOW! Never ever go back to him again..... Not to mention his staff were quite rude and tried to charge me $200 for not canceling my appt 48 hours in- advance...... I plan to make a formal complaint about this to the ADA. read more

I saw Dr. Rega at the referral of my dentist. I have a severely impacted wisdom tooth at my jaw bone, which caused a large cyst to develop. While we are unable to remove the tooth due to its location, Dr. Rega recommended that we remove the cyst to prevent further infection. He guided me through the process in a step-wise manner, and performed the surgery seamlessly. He's got a wicked sense of humor and is generally great to work with. I actually look forward to my visits there, and I am generally very squeamish about dental work. Billing is extremely transparent - in fact, we received a refund check a week after the surgery.
