I became a patient at Canyon Lakes Dental based on the excellent reviews here. It was great initially, until my family and I started running into consistent issues. My whole family were patients, so this review comes from a couple of years of experience visiting them atleast twice a year times four. 1. When they call to confirm the appointment and you miss the call and call them back, they claimed each time to have not seen any missed calls, nor received any voice mails, nor any text messages sent to them requesting a reschedule. I have proof in my phone's call logs and text messages of having tried to contact them, yet they insist they never heard from me. If it's a tech issue, happening once or twice is understandable, not multiple times! 2. If you can't keep the routine cleaning appointment made 6 months in advance and speak with someone at the front desk, the office staff's routine response is that the next available appointment is 4 months out and they will put you on a waitlist. Their hygienists are always booked months out but if the hygienist can't come in when you have a scheduled appointment, you are expected to accommodate and they will have spots in a couple of weeks somehow. 3. I needed to ask the doc a question about keeping my dental appointment the following week after being prescribed certain meds earlier in the week for an emergent condition. I was told to wait till Tuesday for the doc to come in to answer the question, when the appointment was also on Tuesday. I was told there would be a charge if canceling an appointment on the same day, which is fair only if they can answer questions about whether I can be treated before the appointment day! 4. The reception area reeks of strong perfume/air freshener. When requested to unplug because it's triggering allergies for my daughter and a migraine for me, the response was the scent doesn't bother them. Good for them, but that's supposed to be a common waiting area shared with patients some of whom do mind the scent and have allergies and migraine issues. There seems to be a rotating door for dentists, we have seen the same person maybe twice in a row. Dr. Shilpa Chovatia, you and your dentist colleagues maybe excellent professionals but your front office experience and scheduling challenges leaves a lot to be desired. We will not be returning. EDITED TO ADD (April 7) I got a call from Jocelyn at the office offering to schedule me with Dr. Shilpi Chovatia for a specific time, if I didn't want to be on a cancellation waitlist. This is nice, but at this point, too late. I have had 3 appointments for different family members in the past month that needed to be rescheduled for different reasons, and we were told each time to wait months or get on their cancellation list. I am unwilling to deal with the extra administrative burden it puts on me to coordinate schedules for different family members with this practice and plan to find a more accommodating office where the office staff don't simply say "ok thank you" and hang up on me when I tell them I plan to find a different dentist because scheduling with them is so difficult. read more

Avoid this place. They are scammers. The good reviews are a result of them offering free stuff, like $50 electric toothbrushes, in exchange for 5 star reviews. They will upsell you and tell you that you have more cavities than you actually have, need a root canal, deep cleaning, periodontal treatment, whatever, the works. They did this for me, friends, and family members. Check out their reviews that Yelp doesn't "recommend" for the bad reviews. They definitely just want your money. They are nice people, or at least they act friendly, but that's how they get you I guess. I honestly felt comfortable and enjoyed talking to the staff when there, so I trusted them when they recommended the deep cleaning since they are not just dentists but also dental hygienists. Dr. Shilpi is incredibly kind, gentle, patient, and just overall wonderful. We went to several other dentists before finding Dr. Lee and she was the only one who could fix my crooked bite with Invisalign. She has a gentle touch and she's also great for my kids. Every regular appointment at Canyon Lakes Dental is a stressful experience. We've had appointments rescheduled by the clinic without speaking to us, wrong bills forced on us and of course there's never a time when they don't want to sell invisalign to you. Also, watch out for unnecessary xrays not covered by your insurance. My last (and final) experience was about 2 weeks ago when I was supposed to go in for my fillings. My insurance company told me not to pay anything and they insisted (prior to the procedure) that I need to. I told the front desk that I need to talk to my insurance company again and will have to reschedule because the information I was getting from both these parties was not the same and I didn't want to be the one who ends up holding the bag. The front desk, in the most condescending manner, told me how they can charge me for changing my mind at the last minute. I really wasn't changing my mind. I'd taken half day off from work to get this done. Why would I change my mind. We argued about the issue but overall I'd made up my mind to never go back in again. Carole is the only reason that I used to visit this place. She's the nicest and most empathetic person in that office. I'll miss seeing her every now and then. read more

Plain and simple, this dentist office ripped me off with their very questionable billing practices. Over a 9 month period I was charged double what I should've paid them. It started ok with a cleaning and some filling replacements, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I had a crown, still everything seemed ok. Then I was facing a tooth extraction and booked an appt. with the oral surgeon who works in this office. It was a horrible experience, the surgeon lacked bedside manner and had rudimentary skills. I was charged over $1,100 for this procedure. When I went to my insurer's website I saw that my cost should've been $188. I called my insurer and they recommended that I file a grievance and I did. The investigation showed that they had over charged me for EVERY procedure that I had there. I am getting a substantial amount of money back, basically they charged me double of what I should've paid. I feel victimized because I trusted them. They are now on notice to "improve" their billing practices. I urge anyone who's had work here to check their insurer's website and make sure you weren't over charged too. It's sad that you have to watch your back at the dentist's office. read more

Be careful of this place. This is a clinic that attempts to get more money out of you. My previous dentist retired. I thought I give this place a shot because of all those stellar reviews. After my cleaning was done, they tried to tell me to consider invisalign. I had braces in the past. Even my daughter's orthodontics could tell right away I had braces. Next, they told me I had 5 cavities?! Was my previous dentist of 20 years that bad? I decided to call up a friend that is a dentist. I really didn't want to bother my friend and make the drive all the way out there, but I did. I drove out and met my friend. My friend kept saying he didn't see why canyon lake would consider some cavities, and he explained to me what he saw. However, there was one tooth that canyon lake spotted that my friend stated was like a cup. He said good brushing will do the trick, but as he was looking he said it would take him 5 minutes to smooth out my tooth. I agreed to the procedure. read more

This Review is for Dr. Shilpi Dr. Shilpi is an absolute ARTIST!  I've been to the most expensive and well regarded dentists in both Alamo and Danville, and none of them even begin to compare to the skill, care, or treatment you get from Dr Shilpi. Unlike most places, you are not treated by a revolving staff of dentists who work for the namesake of the office, if you make an appointment with Dr. Shilpi, you see Dr. Shilpi! NO PAIN. Of course that's a lot to promise at a dentists' office, but Dr. Shilpi had her special ways to avoid even the pain of the needle that numbs you. I had a molar removed and I'm going to say from start to finish, NO PAIN. Again, she is exceptional at what she does, and truly cares about you and her work. The staff and people who prep you are exceptional. They are not there just logging hours at a 9-5 job, they are polite, helpful, and friendly.  When you go in there, you cannot tell who is working by the hour, and who is part owner of the business. Everyone there cares and in a genuine way. Prices. I have been to dentist offices in both the most expensive parts of Danville, as well as the more quiet, inexpensive areas of Concord, and always pay out of pocket, in cash, with no credit cards, no insurance or other help, so I actually feel the bill each time. The price per specific procedure is very competitive! NO UPSELLING. You can ask questions and get honest answers about what you do or don't need, or what you can do yourself, buy over the counter, or what is the most practical. You don't have to worry about getting pressured into unnecessary procedures or treatments so they can bill you more. This was the first time I have been at a high-end dentist office and wasn't given some brochure or pamphlet on my way in/out recommending some kind of additional treatment or device. They do offer both Invisalign and teeth whitening, but if you ask for it- In fact, I had a question about an issue and Dr. Shilpi took some time to explain what actually happens when I do this or that, and how I can solve the problem with something over the counter, which I am doing now. Because I'm working close to San Francisco right now, I travelled 1.5 hours (each way) to this office for my appointments (2 so far) and it was easily worth the trip. I discovered Dr. Shilpi because of the popularity on Yelp, and I can tell you it's not by accident they have a zillion 5 star reviews. Dr. Shilpi is the best of the best- skilled dentists who takes a genuine interest in what she does for a living, and since you can clearly see from my review-leaving history that I'm a real reviewer, and only found the few good dentists I have by reviews on Yelp, I wanted to take a minute to give credit where it's due. Some of them were always rushed, others were always pushing treatments, others were no fun to talk to or I just didn't feel comfortable for them. But I was really happy with Dr. Lee after I saw her. She took the time to really examine my teeth and was very personable. She explained the situation with my teeth very patiently and was very gentle with me. These guys are spamtastic. I would give them 4-5 stars for the quality of care, but I am knocking off a couple of stars for the huge volume of appointment reminders I receive. They come via phone, email, and text messages, and the reminders are unrelenting. I keep getting requests to confirm appointments even after I confirm the first one. Note to Canyon Lakes Dental: annoying your customers is not the key to business success. I have been a patient here since 2000 or so. Carole has been great as a hygienist. Dr. O'Neill sold the practice to a corporate owner about 5 years ago. Since his departure the dentists have generally been pretty good. Overall I am happy with the quality of care I receive. This was my most comfortable and enjoyable experience at a dentist to date! I believe I saw Dr. Jung and she was knowledgeable and very good at her job! I had two fillings done as well as a regular cleaning and xrays. The fillings were painless and extremely quick. Haven't had any issues with the fillings either! The billing was also quick and easy. The dentist in San Ramon I saw previous to this was a total scam and I felt ripped off - the charge for the amount of fillings they said I needed was astronomical and insane. They told me i NEEDED an out patient procedure on my gums when there was nothing wrong with them. To risk someone having an adverse reaction to anesthesia for some money is absolutely criminal and they should have their license to practice pulled. Ive since returned to my previous practice even though i now have to drive further, and the doctor there has told me how unfortunately common these tactics are played out in hmo funded practices. My wife and I were overwhelmed with the available Dental Offices in San Ramon. After some digging on yelp we decided on Canyon Lakes Dental and have zero regrets. Their staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. Getting to chat with Carole (our usual hygienist) is one of the highlights of our appointments. Carole does a great job cleaning our teeth and is gentle on the gums. Dr Feroz is thorough and will take the time to explain what is going on with your oral health. A big bonus is the staff is very good with both my kids! I highly recommend this practice. I have major anxiety about going to a dentist. I have been to many and at so many different places. But so far I have been very happy with Dr. Shilpi. She is careful, meticulous, and more importantly, she is polite and patient with you. One of my bottom teeth had been causing quite a bit of pain for some time. I really appreciated that Dr. Shilpi listened to my concern and made me feel at ease right away. She figured out what was actually causing this pain and was able to fix it. Along with Dr. Shilpi, Carole is also amazing! She is always checking in to make sure you are doing ok during the cleanings and honestly, she is the sweetest person I have met. The office staff are great and super nice. You feel like you are being taken care of. I specially drive down from Walnut Creek to see Dr. Shilpi and Carole twice a year at minimum to make sure my teeth are well taken care of. I have never experienced so many mix ups and the last thing I want right now is going into an office when I don't have to. Why didn't I switch earlier- because I had started Invisalign with this office before COVID hit and had paid all up front as requested. I've had an appointment for trays only to show up and be told they aren't in. When I call them it takes days to return a call, I was sent to a different office to see the orthodontist as he's only in this office once a month but now I'm told I can only see him in this office. This month I called specifically to get buttons removed, asked if I needed to see the ortho. Nope normal appointment works I was told so we booked everything. A few days before the appointment they called me saying I have to move appointment and see the ortho! I had specifically asked this and planned around the appointment. This ortho is only in the office one day a month which also happens to be a day I care for my mother. Very aggravating that I called and specifically asked. I feel like I can't get an honest answer from this office. I feel totally taken advantage of and have lost money as I am not completing my Invisalign. Only went half way through but had to pay all up front!! I found an awesome ortho who returns my call promptly and took all the buttons off!! read more

Literally the best dentistry I have been to ever! I have never had a dentistry clinic be so attentive and gentle with my teeth and also be so thorough on their care! Any question I had was answered and also were so detailed about the process. I had even my previous filling contours fixed by Dr. Shelby as she noticed how it made my flossing difficult.
