I went in for a bang trim that ended up being the catalyst that sent me down an emotional spiral for 3 whole hours! No, if it's still unclear--the trim was not good! I didn't go in with a photo of Megan Fox or Amanda Seyfried because I secretly wanted to have their face. No, I showed the hair stylist a literal photo of myself, and I came out looking like a drug addict. I wanted Zooey Deschanel bangs and got Joan Jett instead. I don't want to reveal my identity, but I've attached a photo of my eyes after crying for 3 straight hours. And I was really attached to my haircut because it was a symbol of getting over my newfound freedom after a shitty breakup, and now I'm back to square one! read more

I cannot get over how horrible my hair cut is! It's a mullet mixed with just awful blunt framing around my face. There are even a few random long chucks shooting out that are mixed into it to just add to the horrible cut. I asked for a 1/2 inch trim to hold me over until I could see my normal stylist. I'm new to the area and thought I'd try a local place. It was a very bad decision. My hair is butchered! I'm going to have to loose 5-6" to correct it and even then I'm not sure. The hair around my face is framed poorly to my chin and then length starts behind my ear that goes well past my shoulders. Like I said, I have a mullet. I have no idea how this happened from a 1/2" trim. read more

I was nervous about getting an indoor haircut during the pandemic, but they're taking every safety precaution - temp checks at the door, cleaning and sanitizing everything, allowing very few people in at a time, and everyone wore their masks properly the entire time I was there. I walk by this place all the time, and I always think "I should stop in"... well I finally did and I couldn't be more pleased. The owner, Anthony, walked me through his suggestions and listened to mine, and honestly I came out with one of the greatest hair cuts I could ask for. I had long hair mid-back, and wanted to keep length but have more style to it. I got long layers and I feel like my hair is thicker, and honestly still as long as I wanted it. This location has been around since 1990, and his prior location was another decade or so. I'd like to think that he is definitely doing something right! The cut itself was a bit higher in price than I normally pay, but I appreciate that he takes value in his work and truly don't mind paying for a better haircut and better service. They give you the best treatment, and explain step by step what is going on. I left with a smile on my face, and a delicious little homemade cookie in my hand (courtesy of Anthony). Anthony is super gentle with your hair and even gives you a homemade chocolate chip cookie at the end of your visit! Also, my scalp massage was the best scalp massage I have ever received. The prices are extremely reasonable and Anthony will take time to even teach you a new trick or two about your hair. This has been by far the best hair salon experience! I was desperate to have my hair fixed after a horrible experience I had at a different location. As soon as I walked in, Anthony greeted me and offered me something to drink. I sat down with Ashley and explained what I wanted- she took her time with me and explained everything this she was doing. I couldn't stop smiling after I left the salon! You're very well treated from the moment you walk-in to the moment you say bye. It was my first time there, it was a walk-in. They were all super nice, I had tea and all! :) For my haircut I had Mary do this awesome shampooing with scalp massage first (almost fell asleep, seriously). She is super nice and skilled, gave me some great ideas on what to do with my hair and was very attentive to every detail! I simply love my new hair, she did it super nice! One word: CASEY. She is outstanding with color and gives great haircuts. She's also the nicest person you could ever meet. The prices are very reasonable. The salon is attractive and immaculately clean. The owner, Anthony, is also an outstanding colorist and stylist. There is parking right next to the salon. And there is no yucky hair salon vibe whatsoever. Casey is young and up-to-date on current styles but she is also great with older women who want something more classic. I can't imagine how anyone could have a disappointing experience at this salon and I unreservedly recommend Casey. And for those of you who need rescuing from hair color disasters, trust me she rescued me from a total "worst-case" scenario. I didn't leave looking like the color was "fixed" either. I left looking like I never had a problem and with my color more beautiful than I ever thought it could be. They take credit cards but tips are cash only. Pleased is an understatement when it comes to the experience I had at this salon! I came in with 3 different colors in my hair. Blue, green, and bleached roots (a result of attempting to do it myself). With the help of Anthony and Mary, I left with a beautiful dark blonde. It looks like there was never an issue! I'm in love with my hair now. When they say they're color specialists, they aren't lying! Anthony also took time to educate me on how to take better care of my hair in the future. Anthony is a lifesaver. Well, a hair-saver, but that doesn't sound as good. I went to Anthony recently because I got an awful haircut at a different salon, and I really needed help. His wife gave me an appointment for the same day that I called. I showed up and Anthony and his wife (she is a receptionist for the salon) were very accommodating. He got started on my hair right away. He listened to my concerns and spent a lot of time making me feel comfortable and communicating about what I wanted. The shampoo service!!! Oh my gosh! It was heavenly. I wish he would come to my home and wash my hair for me - everyone that works there provides the same shampoo service, and it includes a near 10-minute scalp massage. It was fabulous. He spent a good deal of time cutting and shaping my hair. While I was there, one of his regulars called to get a haircut since he was leaving town in a couple days, and Anthony set up to have him come in the next day -- even though they were closed!!! Now THAT is service! Anyway, back to me... I was so happy with my haircut and blowout, and to top it off he gave me a homemade cookie when I left. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I went back a few weeks later for color, and once again the service was phenomenal. I loved my color, and I will gladly be returning - I have found my salon! read more

I have been going to see Anthony for a little over a year - the longest I have been with any colorist. Here is a list of reasons why: 1) Anthony is a great colorist. But that is not all... 2 Anthony is very patient. His main objective is to make sure I'm happy, so he will sit and talk, discuss colors, and even draw diagrams! to make sure we are on the same page. 3) Everyone in his shop is respectful. Have you ever sat in a chair and listened to the person cutting your hair make fun of the person who just left? Or even a long-standing client? I hate that. You won't find that at this salon. Anthony and his wife Linda are so nice and truly appreciate everyone they meet. 4) Such a warm and caring environment. 5) Linda bakes! And her cookies are fabulous. After looking for a salon that can put color on my hair I found Anthony's and decided to make an appointment for the same day. I walked in and was greeted and helped by Casey. She's the best. I had a picture of the color I was interested in and on her first try she nailed it. We did a test strand and the color came out perfect so she proceeded. Let me just say she did a wonderful job. Besides her the entire staff was nice and offered me water/tea and the head massage was a first. I recommend this place and I definitely recommend Casey. I was recommended to Krystal by a friend who had a great cut. I am over 60 years old and have had short hair my entire life, so I know a little about hair cuts. I like edgy and easy and Krystal nailed it. In the past I have had to apply product, blow dry, hit it with a curling iron and more product only to have the style flat in an hour. Recently moved to the Oak Park area and finally found my go-to salon! Upon entering, I was warmly welcomed and quickly started with my appointment. I wanted about 3.5 inches taken off my hair and got a beautiful trim by Casey. Anthony Peter was so kind and even came up to meet me and ask me about myself. I've never had such personable stylists! Anthony, his wife Linda, and the staff there do beautiful work - expert coloring, stylish cuts, and every customer is treated well. My husband is a long-time customer, though he goes in for a simple cut. We're both devoted clients of Anthony's, but some services are provided by his staff (hair washing mostly), and they do great work as well. I first went to see Amber for a color & cut after reading good things about her here on Yelp, and went back 2-3 more times since. The color was always fabulous -- she is very, very good with color, though she usually ran late, and I was charged more and more each time I went in for the same service. My opinion of this stylist and this salon changed today, however, when I went in for my appointment -- that I had just scheduled one week ago -- and was told that Amber no longer works there. There was no apology or explanation from the receptionist, other than "[the owners] were supposed to call everyone," and when I asked to speak to the managers, she simply said they are out of town. I was coming from the northwest suburbs and lost a good deal of time and money (for the babysitter), let alone the parking meters, for this appointment, and I am angry. Mistakes happen, ok, but this is totally unprofessional and has completely tarnished my opinion of this salon. EDITED 7/10/13: I called back and spoke with the owners when they returned from vacation. They were very apologetic, and told me that Amber had assured them she would be calling all of her clients with appointments and letting us know she was leaving. Needless to say, she did not call me, and I am still quite irritated that she would have such little regard for her client. At any rate, the owners offered me a complimentary haircut by Anthony, the owner, so I went in again for a cut and color with Anthony. The cut is very nice. The color actually does not resemble what Amber had done despite using her notes, and despite me showing a picture of what I was looking for, but I understand that it's not always going to end up looking like what you've got in mind. I should have mentioned in my first post that the owners are very nice people and that they really try to make their clients feel at home by constantly replenishing water/tea, providing magazines, etc., and they also give out homemade cookies when you leave. I do, indeed, think that Anthony and his wife are good people and have a nice salon there... but I may try to find a colorist that can do what Amber did to my hair. EDITED AGAIN 7/12/13: Now a few days have passed, and it is quite clear to me now that my hair actually looks nothing like what I went in there for. I can only conclude that the formula was mixed wrong, or that he just decided to do something other than what we discussed. I am not going to call back to get it fixed, I'll just find somewhere else. But again - the owners are very nice people and it's with mixed emotions that I will have to find someplace else. read more

i have to say Casey gave me a very nice cut and color. Normally I would have booked my next appointment but I didn't. There are few times and places i wish to be pampered but getting my hair done is one. The salon looks old and tired. It desperately needs updating. The days and hours it's open are less than average. it is a small salon that feels like it is limping along to stay open. The prices are average but to me if you charge the same as other salons you should look the same and this place isn't as modern. I got the feeling they have little repeat business and survive by walk-ins and promotions to get new clients. Too bad. it is a convenient location but it doesn't measure up to other salons in the area. Lastly, so many salons keep their clients by the stylist relating well to the client. This place is so small that any person speaking is heard by everyone else in the salon. No privacy. Sorry; Nice people but I have to continue my search. I have been coming to this salon for two years, and have always loved my haircut (I have short hair, never been colored) - but this is the first time I have wanted to write a review. This salon deserves even more 5-star reviews than it already has! I have seen a number of stylists here and I am always pleased with the quality of my haircut. The appointments run on-time and Anthony and his wife Linda are so wonderfully nice and welcoming. The stylists help each other out and give each other tips - it is wonderful to be in a place where it seems like everyone has respect and admiration for each other - I get a very positive feeling every time I'm there. I've been here twice and Casey always give me EXACTLY what I want. I have hard hair to work with because it is very thick and curly. The last time I came in I wanted a blunt cut at my chin, which I knew was a gamble since my hair is curly. Casey was still able to make it work and it was one of my favorite hair cuts I've ever had. This salon is also very good with color. They knew what color would suit my face when I asked for a natural looking ombre. I will say it is an expensive place but totally worth it. read more
