I went here. I have curly hair. They did not know how to deal with curly hair whatsoever. I was treated with a heat lamp, a blow dryer instead of a diffuser, and no products actually meant for my hair type. My cut did not fit my type of hair. This is a review for bodywork. I went for a 60 minute deep tissue massage with David. The whole experience was very professional and I was able to voice what areas I wanted worked on. I often had Diana as my esthetician, and she was always very good--in terms of skill and made me feel comfortable. I would encourage you to go--even if you are not one to pamper yourself; it is much easier than just plucking or waxing everything yourself. Everything was always fast, and you will hardly notice. Salon 212 is amazing. During Covid they took all the precautions and then some. You call before going in, they have you sanitize your hands and take your temperature. Everyone wore masks the whole time and everything is cleaned and disinfected between customers. I had Silvana cut my hair and she is absolutely amazing! I have a lot of thick curly/wavy hair and she understood how to cut my hair into the long layers I asked for. I finally found a stylist that listened to what I wanted and understood the texture of my hair. I recommend this place to everyone. read more

"Listen Honey, when I go to take my car to the mechanic- I don't know what in the hell he's taking about when it needs to get fixed- I just let him do it because he knows cars. I don't know cars- like you don't know hair. Trust me Honey- this is what I do." Wow. That is what he said to me as a means of finalizing my questioning his application of the product on my hair. I was nervous because he wasn't listening to anything I was saying that I wanted. Another stylist now has to fix the stark lines of uneven color (while I have my two small children with me which should be awesome) hours before leaving town for my nephew's graduation. read more

The pedi/mani area is neat, secluded and comfortable. I stopped in for a no chip manicure without an appointment and were pleased they were able to service me with a less than five minute wait. Service was good, my nails looked fabulous and the prices were similar to that of other salons in the area. -If you have not received a no chip manicure there before, there is an additional charge to soak off existing polish. - If you are getting a regular pedicure and no chip manicure, there are no matching colors offered by the same brand. You will have to match them as best you can. I would definitely return when in need but hope matching regular and no chip colors are offered in the future. read more

I have never had a worse haircut in my life!!! I came in for a basic angled bob. I've been getting a bob haircut on and off since I was 16. And what i left with was a half-ass cut bob. One side was 1 inch or more longer than the other side. She didn't even know how to texturize hair and all she did was trim it (on one side apparently) and cut more layers when i asked for texturizing. Maybe they need to re-train their stylists, if you want to call them that! Or just let everyone know we only do long hair. It is very telling when not one person working at the salon or going in or out has cute trendy short hair. Everyone has cookie cutter long hair. I have never had someone screw up a BOB! I should've known when she wouldn't show me the back of my head in a mirror to let me see how it looked. And she didn't even measure to see if each side was the same length. She could care less. Yes we were talking and that is fine. But I'm sorry that is not an excuse to not cut hair correctly! And then to pay $60 and $12 tip for this cut is a joke. I also tried to call the next day to get it fixed and basically was told she was too busy to take me. What customer service! Then to later call me back and suggest someone else take me. I was thinking I could go back....but probably to have someone else mess up my hair worse, cause I'm guessing no one there knows how to cut shorter hair. Or I could just trim it myself. And that is what I did. I could've received a better haircut at one of those $5 haircut places. I referred a friend there and she also is no longer going to go to your salon. I will continue to let everyone I know not to go there! I almost forgot to mention the shampoo experience was terrible. I NEVER had someone wash my hair over my forehead and rub my forehead with my soapy hair to the point soap was getting in my eyes. So that was fun! Should've been the first sign to RUN! Maybe continued education and training for these so-called hair stylists would be something to consider! I'm giving them 1 star only because you have to post a star. read more

My first time here was for a hair cut. I'm growing out a pixie and it was at the awkward bob length where styling it wasn't fun and being patient for all my layers to catch up to each other was annoying. I went in for a fresh cut to give my hair some shape and body and Ashley did an awesome job! She really took the time to understand what I wanted, my hair texture, how I typically style it, which way I part my hair, etc. She was super thorough and sweet! She asked several questions and before making any cuts that she thought would be better, she'd consider my reaction first because she knew that cutting too much length off was a no go for me. She also taught me a few techniques how to style my hair and Im finally happy with it after months of growing it out. Also, the salon was clean, staff was super friendly and accommodating, and the shampoo girl made me feel so pampered. Prices are reasonable as well. So.. I really can't recommend this after this last visit. I went in for a cut. 1.5 years of Covid lockdown,working mad hours at a hospital and was really looking forward to a fresh look. I was with Brittany t. I explained what I wanted, layers,showed her a photo. Told her I was Tired of having to pull it up. Wanted something shorter, lighter What did I get? Let's just say when my daughter stopped by later that day and said" I thought you were getting your hair cut".. She trimmed less than a quarter inch of hair, threw me under a hood dryer And that was it. Seriously. A hood dryer? Maybe she doesn't know how to use a blow dryer. I said several times when she asked if I was good and I said several times I wanted LAYERS, nothing. It the first time EVER that I did not tip. Worst experience. $60 and I left feeling horrible. While I was at the salon I actually enjoyed the conversation and the manicurist was very nice but took noticeably longer than usual to complete my manipedi. The photos are of my no chip manicure 5 days after getting it done. One of the nails chipped two days later and the other two came off another day later. I scheduled an appointment since I am new to the area. I wanted to get a trim and have bangs cut into my hair. I figured that with so many great reviews I would end up with an okay haircut, but I was not impressed. The person who did my shampoo hardly massaged my head( my favorite part of getting my hair done and a good part of the reason why I am willing to pay more to go to a nicer salon). When she was finished she did not wrap my sopping wet hair in a towel and instead said "Okay, you're done", in a tone that made me feel pretty unwelcome. The lady who cut my hair was nice, but did not do what I asked (blunt bangs above the eyebrows). My bangs were in my eyes when I left. I ended up trimming them myself at home in order to get the length I wanted. As for the thickness of them, I asked for blunt thinking that she would understand the difference between blunt, modern bangs and 90's mom bangs, but she did not. It will now take me at least a year to correct the over-thickness of them because they are cut to far back. I really wish she would have cut a little at a time and/or asked questions about whether they looked the way I had envisioned. She did do a nice razor cut/trim on the rest of my hair. To top everything off I had to pay ATM fees in order to use their ATM because they only accept cash tips. I think that if you are claiming to be a "nice" or "higher end" salon this is completely unacceptable and frankly, cheap. read more

I was looking for a local salon that offers hard wax. There are some older reviews on here that say they don't have it, but they do now with Esthetician Barbara. She's fantastic with hard wax for bikini/Brazilian, very experienced and really knows what she's doing, which certainly lends itself to a great experience. Wonderful personality and very thorough. Hannah B. has been cutting my hair for about three years. When she started working at Salon 212 I followed her there! Hannah always cuts my hair exactly how I envision it--usually even better. She always takes my personal characteristics into consideration (i.e. face shape, hair texture, etc.) and gives me great guidance based on her expertise. I can honestly say Hannah has given me some of the best hair cuts of my life--including cutting my long hair to a short bob. Plus, she is very friendly and easy to talk to. Seriously, go see her! In terms of Salon 212 in general, the atmosphere is great and the space is clean and inviting. The other hair dressers at the salon are friendly, and I always feel welcomed. I would definitely recommend Salon 212 to anyone in the Oak Park/Chicagoland area, and would recommend Hannah in particular! read more

I'm a dude so my review might not matter much but I have long hair that I style with a undercut with the top like a Quiff. So I'm not your average Joe going for a cut . But.. The price wasn't worth it . Hair Cuttery cuts my hair the same way they did...... -_- ...... but I'm sure the service they give is why the price is higher than your average Hair Cuttery. I'll prob give this place a 2nd try but that won't be for awhile since I'm growing my hair much longer. This place is prob good for women Idk.....but for guys don't waist your money . Ive only been there 2 times and both were very interesting expiriences. The first time I went I made an appointment for a manicure with tips and when I got there the lady told me she didn't have time to give me tips and gave me some terrible bootleg french mani. Went there again for a brazillian and was treated rudly by the recpetionist. The only saving grace was the lady who did it was quick and nice. I gave a friend of mine a gift certificate to the salon and she said she was treated very poorly. The staff is very rude and it's one of those places where I don't think they appreciate black business. Do yourself a favor and walk the extra 2 blocks and hit one the other 3 spa/nail salons in the area. You'll get way better service! read more

I have been reunited with my hair savior! Hallelujah! At last. I lost Jennifer for awhile and recently found out that she is here. BOY am I glad. My hair was in desperate need of some creative influence. I have followed Jen to 3 salons in the past 4 years. She always knows exactly what is right for me... cut and color wise. She is a delight to converse with and is definitely a pro at what she does. Salon 212 is bright, open, and airy. I only saw the hair side, and not the spa side. Every staff member that I encountered was friendly and accommodating. I really like the 'processing area'. It's an area stocked with magazines, cushy seats, and a TV where clients can lounge while their color sets. Coffee, water, soda, tea? Your choice while you wait! I just received a fantastic cut and color from Stephanie at Salon 212. I presented her with a challenge and she delivered. I am four months postpartum and have been drastically losing massive amounts of hair and needed to go very short to combat it. I also needed the terrible dye job I received at a high end salon in the Southport neighborhood corrected. My previous stylist turned my roots and scalp red in an attempt to match the darker brown dyed part of my hair. It looked like I did it myself with drugstore dye. Additionally, I needed a style that worked well with my naturally curly hair (that I occasionally dry straight) and could be put up in a pony-tail. Stephanie colored my roots with a permanent and then 15 mins later touched up the rest of my hair with semi-permanent dye. It looks amazing and the color is consistent throughout with no trace of the disaster that was there. She was incredibly thorough cutting my hair. Stephanie cut almost 6 inches off and added tons of layers, the secret to curly hair! I've had a lot of layers cut in my life and this was the best by far. Instead of the traditional take the top half of my hair, comb straight up, cut and call it a day, Stephanie sectioned out each part if my hair adding at least three layers. She went back over my hair after she dried it and cut in more layers, texturized the ends and thinned it in parts. The result was an amazing cut that can be styled straight or curly. I was really impressed with her level or detail and perfection. She was very friendly and empathetic towards my postpartum hair loss issues. I walked in feeling pretty upset with the state of my hair and walked out feeling so much better. I was also pleasantly surprised with the very reasonable bill! Almost a $100 less than I paid for the terrible dye job at the other salon. I had been going to Salon 212 prior to my move out of state three years ago. I have never had a bad experience. I even had my wedding hair and makeup done here. Everyone is pleasant and seems to like one another creating an overall happy environment. Highly recommend. read more

A friend recommended a specific stylist for a Deva cut. Deva is a specialty cut, and as such is considerably more expensive than regular cuts. Deva is a dry cut for curly hair. This stylist had no idea of what she was doing. I explained I particularly wanted front layers to cover thinning spots on my temples, and wanted some fullness and lift in the front. The rest was just a regular Deva cut, trimming and shaping the hair. Again, she had no idea of what she was doing. A Deva cut and style typically takes about 90 minutes--I was out within 45. And, my hair looks no different from when I started. This was a $100 hair cut; I've had better cuts at Great Clips. read more

I regularly visit this area and love the access to downtown. The newly renovated cobblestone streets make this block in Oak Park look like a quaint German village - and the salon is a little bit chic and a little bit zen - very clean and sophisticated. Although I didn't see any African American stylists who could cater to my daughter's hair needs (or so I thought), I was greeted right away and everyone was really friendly. I spoke to one female stylist who, after hearing what my needs were for my daughter, recommended her colleague, Mario. I thought the relaxed, non-competitive nature of that gesture alone was unique and highly professional & Mario had had experience working with thick, long, wavy hair! I scheduled the appointment and hoped for no tears for my 12-year old the following week. Mario met my child with a smile and there was no waiting at all ---which as far as my past salon experience, puts you in a realm all by yourself! When I checked in on Mario a couple times, and my daughter was not in tears at all, rather she was laughing and telling him stories, I knew I had found a great stylist! We have been to salons in Chicago, Naperville, Forest Park, and Oak Park in the past 5 years since moving to Illinois-----and she has always cried in the past. This time, my daughter enjoyed her salon experience immensely! I would give Salon 212 five stars, but I will wait until I actually experience the services as well.
