I have never been more pleased with a haircut than the one I received from Erika at this salon. I have very long, pretty thick hair, and I find that some stylists don't know what to do with that hair type, but Erika was incredible. When I arrived, they took my temperature on my wrist, which I understand has to be done, and they were really relaxed and respectful about it. Then, when Erika came to take me back, she talked through what I wanted with me, offering her suggestions when I needed them. The shampoo was very nice, their quiet sink room was really relaxing, and when my hair was cut and they needed to dry it, Erika had a second stylist help her, which really made me happy. Usually I just sit for half an hour while one person tries to wrestle with drying my hair. The atmosphere was clean and pleasant and I highly recommend this salon. And Erika! read more

I've been coming here for years and it stays my favorite place to get my hair cut. The last time I was there (about 1 month ago) I had emily and she was AMAZING. cut my hair exactly how I wanted and the haircut was so relaxing. Reeeeally bad experience, both in the quality of their work, and the rudest treatment ever. Most of the stylists seem to be really inexperienced, with the owner, Tina, trying to provide on-the-job training. I originally asked for all over blonde, but they said it was impossible, which is baffling because I've had it done many times before in the past, elsewhere at places that knew what they were doing, and no, it did not take multiple appointments as they tried to tell me. They talked me into a partial foil, which looks so dumb because it is literally just the front half of my head. See pic. It's not even blonde. Because they previously fixed a haircut they badly botched, (kind of fixed, see pic. It's still not a good cut) they refused to fix the color, and it got kind of heated between the owner and me because she was blaming ME for my ugly hair. And then she physically yanked the smock off my body and followed me to the door yelling at me to have a good day! Seriously, it was completely insane. And my hair looks so dumb. My advice is, go somewhere else. And always read reviews before you schedule. There is a theme here with Tina not accepting responsibility. Can't wait to read her reply to this review. ETA: lol I did not bash the other salon. I purposely did not mention what salon it was because I did not want to bash them. And because they weren't jerks about it, I didn't post a negative review. Horrific experience with the management. Horrible, horrible! A miscommunication BURNED my scalp with the wrong products. I had to leave immediately as the pain triggered my medical disability and I started to have a seizure. I understand mistakes happen and wanted to give the salon another chance, as they have been my go to for four years. When I asked about the incident, there was no acknowledgment that anything wrong happened. In fact, they tried to blame me. They went on to state Management did me a favor by not charging me for leaving the appointment. She stated since I came back, obviously nothing happened. I asked to speak with ownership and was told no. I asked to speak with management and was told no. I inquired if all mistakes are handled this way, and was told there was no mistake. She just sat there and laughed at me.. The whole thing just made me feel sick to my stomach. This was my first time at JAS & Juliana was AMAZING! She was so sweet and accommodating and really made me feel welcome. My hair had not had a cut in years due to covid and it was severely damaged. She suggested a keratin treatment which turned out to be a great idea as it added softness and repaired a lot of the damage to my hair. She went above and beyond and I booked my next appt with her for my next cut. If you're local to Oak Park I highly suggest this salon. I have been coming to see Stephanie at James Anthony Salon since 2010. In that time my hair has been from rich chocolate brown to bright platinum blonde and everything in between! She even did fun purple peek-a-boo highlights one time. Went again today for my regular visit with an idea to change up my color again. To break up the heavy blonde I had been rocking she added honey low lights. I am once again in love with my color!! Overall James Anthony is the best salon experience you can get. I love the head, neck, and shoulder massage with my shampoo. The staff is always welcoming and they know who I am. And of course I always leave feeling like a million bucks! This salon has canceled my appointment twice on such short notice; The first time was the day of my appointment. When I was able to finally reschedule my appointment, they literally called me back 10 minutes later and asked to reschedule for another day because I have thicker hair, so they'll need more time. This is completely unacceptable. The representative I spoke to should've asked these questions before scheduling my appointment. You would think they would have been accommodating or empathetic considering my prior appointments were cancelled due to issues on their end. The customer service at James Anthony is a joke. I was called the day of my appointment and told that the stylist I was supposed to see was going home sick. Fine, is there someone else that could take me? No, no one else was available to see me. This is the third time that this has happened with this stylist in the last year. I asked to speak with the manager who told me that I was selfish because I expressed my frustration that this happened again at the last minute. They offered me other times to come in but none of them worked for me. I understand that people get sick and things come up but what is my time worth? I used to love James Anthony and always had a great experience there but I will never recommend this salon going forward. I never write bad reviews, especially at businesses that employ women. We tried three stylists-- two were very condescending, one was kind. My stylist, who is supposedly an "expert" stylist that charges more!, didn't even give me the adjustments I asked for, made me feel rushed. My mother's hair stylist was super cold and rude. At checkout, they first claimed the extra charge for my hair (which looks worse than how I could do it myself at home) was because my hair was long! even though my sister's hair was also long! Maybe they didn't give a damn because we're out of town --even though our entire family is based in Oak Park & will change their choice of salon. Maybe they were having a bad day. I don't know and can't endorse this place. TLDR: Avoid at all costs. Rude staff, inconsistent stylists, just an overall mood killer. And ASK for prices before you sit down. I am very annoyed at myself for not remembering the name of the stylist that did my daughter's hair, but she was awesome! Went in a few months ago, sorry guys for the late review. My daughter went to this salon to donate her hair to children fighting cancer ( this salon is one of few that do this), and her stylist was AMAZING. She was so sweet and caring, and my daughter's hair came out great. It actually still looks great now, months later. She's 13, so the cut made her hair really easy to manage (rolls out of bed and off to school). We will be returning. read more

I have been getting mani/pedi services from Stella for several years now and she is fantastic. I had a black toe and she carefully nursed it back to health. She has new specials every month using all organic products. My feet have never been in better shape. Her space is private in the back of the salon. It's a very relaxing experience. Growing your hair out is not easy! I always get to a point where I get impatient and want to just chop it off.. I was at this point during my last visit with my stylist Stephanie. But oh no, she was not hearing it!! She reminded me of my GOAL and the reality of the process. She gave me a slight trim which was part of our long-term plan but she refused to chop it off. This is exactly what I needed - a stylist who knew my weakness and stayed strong! Also, I have naturally curly hair and there are some wonderful things about that, and there are some styles and color techniques that just don't look good for us curly girls.. and Stephanie is HONEST and fearless when it comes to communicating about what will work and what won't for my head of hair. I really appreciate her for helping me stick to my vision and hair goals (lol). AND I love the whole experience of getting my hair washed & a neck/shoulder massage in the super calming room in the back of the salon. I was recommended to Tina at James Anthony Salon when my hair stylist moved out of state. I had some anxiety about trying a new salon and stylist, but this salon came at such high recommendation that I was optimistic. My appointment was with Tina and was scheduled on 9/16 at 1:15PM for highlights and a haircut. I wasn't seated until around 1:45PM, and it wasn't until about 1:55/2PM that I actually met Tina for the first time (the salon was very busy at the time, I get it, it happens). I do believe that Tina did a great job on my color and the Lather Lounge experience was very relaxing, however, my issue is with my hair cut. I asked for about 4 inches off at max with long, round layers. I was looking for them to be subtle, just to give my hair a bit of texture, and I expressed this when we discussed the game plan for my hair. After I left the salon and straightened my hair (I always wear my hair completely straight - for reference, at the salon my hair was dried with a rounded brush giving the ends a bit of a curl) I noticed that the "long round layers" are everything but. When completely straight, the layers are uneven, don't really blend with my hair, and there is a chunk missing on the right side layer. I am disappointed with my hair and I don't believe that this looks like a $100 hair cut. I'm not sure if this was an oversight due to the salon being so busy and Tina being rushed, or just a genuine mistake, but I wish this had been brought to my attention before I left the salon so it could have been corrected. read more

This review is long overdue. Nothing is scarier than moving to a new place and trying to find a good hairdresser. I moved from Texas to Oak Park and knew nothing about the area or salons, but I found James Anthony Salon on yelp AND saw that they did hair extensions. I took a chance and met with Stephanie, and now it's been 5 YEARS that she's made my thin limp hair look like a hair model! Not only have we done all lengths (with and without extensions), she's taken me from a variety of blondes to light brown and everything in between while keeping my hair healthy. I truly enjoyed my experience at James Anthony Salon. Kat listened to what I had to say about my hair and she discussed with me the different types of hair treatments and the various benefits of each one.  I also showed Kat a picture of what wanted done with my hair and I wanted about 12 inches cut off and donated. Along with the amazing hair and neck massage done by Evelyn, Kat also provided me with a fresh hot cup of coffee. I enjoyed Kat and I's conversation and I could tell she enjoyed her job and was an expert at styling hair. I came in just to get my roots done to cover some greys on my medium brown hair with Megan. She turned my hair 4 shades darker - into a jet black- then said that was my natural color (It's not...). I have had medium brown my entire life and my hair looks worse than whe I went in. She also charged 4x more than the website since she used so much color to change my hair i to a color I did not want. I went to Elan to fix and they did g **Update** I called and left at least three messages to fix the color after, and told her immediately when she started blow drying that it was too dark. I've never been here for a cut or color. I come here occasionally for blow outs. I try for Dominica or if I can't get her any other stylist is excellent. If your not up on things.. Here's the deal.. You have someone who shampoos you and they give you a scalp massage and shoulder massage it's excellent. But what I wish they would ask is if you want the shoulder massage some don't they just do it. Than the stylist takes care of you. Than you tip both, you should it's only fair. Nice place, they text you to remind you of your appointment which is a plus. I go when my stylist is out of town she's closed on Wednesdays. Sure it's $35 and parking is not free it's Oak Park people. But they are nice and accommodating. Give them a shot for a blow out. I love James Anthony! I have been seeing Leticia for a few years and her cuts are always amazing. Their shampoo service is insane, it feels like coming to a spa with a hot towel and massage. All the women here are so sweet, often coming over to compliment my hair once it is done. I have super long hair and Leticia is the only person I feel 100% comfortable with, after getting bad haircuts other places in Oak Park. She recommends great products without aggressively pushing them and I'm always in love with my hair. I will keep coming back for sure! read more

There is no other Salon that can top the superior excellence of service and experience, and highly trained and educated experts in their business like Jim and Tina and the James Anthony Salon Team perform. I have been a client of Jim's for 44 years and I travel over an hour to see Jim for my hair cuts. I have the highest respect for Jim and Tina.
