Great beef patties but not worth the blatant attitude and rudeness from one particular staff member, and I don't mean the expected Jamaican attitude that most places have. Laughing it up with the couple in front of us, but when it's our turn all of a sudden she got attitude. She asks us if we're ready and i say yes. After saying yes, she walks away into the back for a couple minutes, no warning or explanation. Okay? She comes back and asks again if we're ready and I say yes again. I ask for escovitch fish with extra veggies (the pickled veggies that come with it). She goes to serve me cabbage which was an honest mistake. So I tell her that I meant the veggies that come on top of the fish. "This is all that comes on top of it" she says. At this point I'm thinking maybe I'm just not explaining myself well, so I ask her to scoop some of the remaining veggies that were laying on the pan onto my fish. She swings her tongs and begins throwing the veggies into my container. "Anything else?" she asks, her annoyance obvious. My partner orders his food (a couple of beef patties) and without any eye contact she tells us to go to the front. Maybe it was seeing the contrast of service happen right in front of us, but it was not appreciated at all. Almost made me say "f*ck it" and cancel my order. I stopped by here this past Wednesday evening for dinner by myself. I found out about Anthony's via Yelp whenever I was looking for a place that was nearby. A takeout Jamaican place, sure, that sounds delicious! So I headed over there. Anthony's sits in a strip mall and so is not much to look at from the outside. The inside isn't much better with seating for 8 or 10, a counter to order and some coolers with drinks. For dinner on this day I went with a large jerk chicken. Between the time that I had ordered and the time that my food was ready, not more than 5 minutes could have passed. So I took my food and headed to my car where I tried some of the jerk chicken before heading home. It wasn't the hottest meat temperature wise but it certainly was juicy! The flavor of it was also great with a lasting spiciness that wasn't melt your face but let you know it was there. Whenever I finally made it back to the hotel I was able to taste more of the chicken. All of it had a great spice level and was tender and moist which left me happy. It came with a side of steamed vegetables and white rice with some type of gravy on it. While the gravy was good the rice was just ok and I really could have made it without any of the steamed vegetables. The bottom line is that I would head back here again in the future. I really enjoyed the jerk chicken and only wish that I could have had fried plaintains as one of my sides. read more

I was in the mood to try something new so I decided on Jamaican food to share with a friend. Ordered a large portion of jerk chicken, 2 coco breads, a chicken patty and beef patty off of UberEats for about $21 total. Jerk chicken - I ate everything; it was tasty! I couldn't finish all of it in one sitting so I ate half and saved the other half for later. I ate it like a few hours later and just heated it up in the microwave and still tasted good. Coco bread - I really loved the coco bread!! I wanted to eat the two that I bought but I shared the other with my friend. Chicken/beef patties - The outside was flaky while the inside was warm and tasty !! Not sure about the chicken one since my friend ate it but he said it was good! The amount you get for what you pay for is worth it. I'm not an expert on Jamaican food, again, this was my first time trying it, but I genuinely enjoyed everything. I was the first customer of the day to stop in. I was a little confused when I walked in the door and the cashier looked at me, I said hi, she said nothing and walked into the kitchen. Then she came back out very friendly. But I picked up a beef patty and cocoa bread which were very tasty. And she turned out to be very polite and friendly. Your beef patties are better than the one on Jamaica ave in Queen NY lol I hate to say but it's true! I only come in for the beef patties and your soup! This place is so fantastic. I got coco bread which was extremely soft and fluffy with a slight amount of sweetness. I could eat it alone every day but it was so good with the beef patty in between. We also tried the oxtail and the jerk chicken. They were both savory and so tender. The chicken was cooked so well- it was really juicy and moist with a slight spicy kick. The meals came with rice which was flavorful and cabbage which was also very good. I also tried some chocolate cake which was sweet, sticky, and tasty. Very disappointing. The jerk pork was over-salted and over-cooked. Maybe 20% of the pork chunks were tough, chewy and inedible. Plus there was a big slab of fat in my take-out container. At first I thought it was a plantain, but no -it was a gelatinous ribbon of fat. Yuck to the tenth power. I'm no expert on Jamaican food, but I've been to well over a dozen Jamaican restaurants. I can confidently say this was one of the worst Jamaican plates I've ever had. Not even the cool photo of Bob Marley behind the counter could change my mind that this was a 2-star experience. I've wanted to try this place for a while and I finally got to do that yesterday. I got the medium size jerk chicken with rice NS cabbage and also a chicken patty with coco bread.Upon opening the container I was impressed, there was enough food in a medium for two meals (ate half and then ate the other half 4 hours later). The chicken was fall off the bone moist and flavorful. I could have used a little more spice but I still tore it up. The rice was on point and had the extra kick I was looking for in the chicken. The chicken patty and coco bread (OMG), never have I ever had a coco bread that actually covered the entire patty. They were both flaky and delicious. I will definitely be ordering again. read more

Wow, this place blew me away! The first time my boyfriend and I tried to eat here, it was Sunday and it was closed, but we tried again last night, and it was totally worth it. Every bite of food we had was delicious. Since it was my boyfriend's first time eating Jamaican food, the guy at the counter (who also might have been the owner) offered us some samples, and while everything was tasty and seriously addicting (I couldn't stop eating the sample!), we decided on a large order of the jerk pork and a large order of the jerk chicken. Both portions of meat were ridiculously generous and seriously tasty. The jerk spices weren't very spicy, but they were still super flavorful. Both came with enormous helpings of rice and beans that the guy doused in yummy juices from the meat, as well as some cabbage and peppers. We also got a beef patty, and it was gone within seconds. Two of them would make a very satisfying meal. Unfortunately, the fried plantains were all out by the time we were there, but we will definitely be back early next time to try them! Can I mention again how large the portions were? My boyfriend can put away a serious amount of food, and we managed to get two very sizable meals out of the two large portions we ordered. One large order is enough for three meals for a normal person, and they were about $8 each. The restaurant looks clean, and the guy at the counter was very kind. It's our biggest regret that we discovered this hidden gem right as we prepare to move, but this place is worth making a trip back. Ordered through grubhub, they called me after already being late- stating the oxtail wouldn't be ready for another hour. I said that's fine- mind you the driver was already there to pick up my order. They said "okay, we'll call you back". I said fine, 20 minutes later the driver shows up to my job. I open the tray, not sure what was in it, I call the restaurant. I usually don't shop anything in this plaza that often but one day I was looking to have a quick lunch n came across this place (Yelp @ my rescue). I have been here a couple of times in a row for lunch and I'm never disappointed, excellent food every time..... No doubt. My favorite here is the Goat curry n Chicken curry n also the plantains fry! Very luxury meal for a decent price. A small chicken curry @ 7$ (Rice + Veggies + chicken) and a$ for the fried plantains (5 to 6 pieces). How good is that! The flavors oh boy, nothing can beat this Jamaican boy :) Well balanced spices and right on the spicy levels! They have shrimp, fish, loads of sweet tooth stuffs like the coco bread and also their patties are to die for! Tragically overlooked. It's steam table carry-out, but most Jamaican food is well-suited to that kind of service. There's a good variety of stuff, none of it dumbed down for American sensibilities, but to be honest I've tried only a bit of what they offer due to the fact that I am addicted to Jerk Pork, Rice & Peas, and Callalou. Seriously. I eat that shit like a crackhead smokes rocks. Also, it's dirt cheap. I will be back.....probably on a monthly basis! : D On one of those bi-weekly visits (it's just that good!), I tried the akee and salted cod over the beans and rice, which was a pleasant surprise. The flavors blend nicely without overpowering each other, and the meal is satisfyingly filling. Both the goat and the fish dishes stuck to my ribs for the rest of the day. The service is great - very kind and fills the containers to the point that they nearly burst. I'll point out, as every other reviewer has, that this is not a "restaurant" as the name implies. It is like an old school Subway shop, with a few tiny tables for those who actually choose to sit and, uh...dine. I've only had the jerk chicken, rice and cabbage, and a beef patty. They all were superb. Presentation was stark, served up in a small styrofoam clamshell tray. But they got a lot of food into my "small" lunch tray. They also offer two larger sizes. Wow...must be belly busters, because my small lunch was perfect! The jerk chicken was not very jerky (hot), but it was perfectly seasoned, full of flavor. It had a little zing, but not much. I didn't add any extra sauce, I just mixed it with the rice and cabbage side. The flavors enhanced each other beautifully. The pieces of chicken were a bit odd; I couldn't really tell what part of the chicken they were, best guess is chunks of thigh and/or leg. That didn't matter. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and tasted awesome. I ate two pieces and left the third to take home and enjoy later...and then I moved on to my beef patty. When the woman behind the counter packed it, I didn't see the whole procedure and was kind of shocked...that's HUGE! It turned out the beef patty was normal size, but she tossed in a large piece of bread. Meh. The beef patty tasted fantastic. It didn't necessarily LOOK fantastic, kind of flat and mushy. But as it turned out, the crust was just right and the meat filling had a nice kick to it. It would have been a superb lunch all by itself for just $2. The menu is very limited...jerk chicken and chicken wings, curried goat, beef/chicken/goat patties, curried beef, a couple of others. They don't do a LOT, but what they do, they do very well. And stick to take-out. You won't impress a date. I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the low-rent strip mall location and the feeling that I was ordering a corn dog at a 7-11 gas station. Chicken had a great flavor and the beefy patty was excellent with just the right amount of spice (you'll notice it for sure). All of the food here is kept in steamer baskets or under heat lamps. Think high school cafeteria. Whoever was doing the butchering at this place is an imbecile. It seemed like they just took all the whole dark meat parts of the chicken and cut straight through them from top to bottom. My girlfriends food and mine were both full of shards of bone that had to be pulled out of our mouths as we ate. The much acclaimed "seasoning" was mostly just grease and chili powder. The "steamed vegetables" was just limp cabbage. The rice was fine, and it's absorbing all the chicken grease actually was pleasant. The staff were extremely aloof, and, often, no where to be found. They talk to the customer like they work at a gas station. The place looks like the sketchiest Chinese restaurant, and this "Jamaican" restaurant is completely decorated with posters of American civil rights heroes and Bob Marley - the authenticity is dubious. Finally got to try this place. It is a great little takeout place for Authentic Jamaican food. I ordered the jerk chicken and it was great. The meat falls off the bone and the spice is pretty nice. Not spicy but very flavorful. Rice and beans were average. My favorite was definitely the beef Jamaican patties. The beef patties did have a spicy kick that I loved! I wasn't impressed with the quality of the plantains, possibly because that was sitting out on their shelf for a while and had became slightly soggy. However, everything else I tried was flavorful. On the ride home from school with my boyfriend and we decided to stop in to this restaurant for a quick bite. The food was phenomenal. We ate it in the car in about 5 minutes. The prices are very reasonable for some of the most authentic and delicious food I've had in a while. My dad was born and raised in Jamaica and the rice brought me back to meals with my grandmother.
