I love the smell as you enter, Anthropologie. It just creates this special welcoming atmosphere. I was shocked by the enormous size of this store. They have 3 floors packed with women's clothes, gifts and glassware, cosmetics, furniture, shoes and purses. Service was great. People who worked there offered me help and were very nice. They didn't have a huge petite section, but they did a good amount of sale clothing. Prices are on the higher side. I will say this, Anthropologie has a unique style and you won't see a lot of people wearing what you bought. You won't have to worry about getting your steps in if you shop in this store. : ) They have a lovely selection of unique clothing and accessories. I will definitely be back to shop here. read more

This is my favorite location in the DMV area. The store is huge and they have a wide selection of items including a bridal area. The staff is always very helpful and down to earth. I primarily shop here doing their sales because there is always something available at a discounted price. read more

I returned it the same day but the worst part isn't the fact I was given the cold shoulder when arriving, browsing even paying it was when I returned it and exchanged it for the spray. The woman working in the floral/garden section was so rude and had an attitude and was not in a good mood. That ruined my experience at the store. I will not return here. read more

This Anthropologie store have multiple levels, quite spacious, with great clothes, accessories, scent selections, additionally has the wedding dress section as well. The shop is very clean, with friendly staff would check on us on and off. Located in downtown Bethesda. There is parking garage about 1 block away. It's a great location to visit. read more

Dropped in today with a friend, after a late lunch in Bethesda Row. We did get a greeting right when we walked in, but when I turned around to respond, the staffer was already looking at her phone. My friend and I continued downstairs. Although we saw 4-5 staffers on the floor, no one came over to point us to a dressing room, even though my friend and I were each carrying two or three items on hangers. We found the fitting rooms anyway & my friend started to try on clothes. My friend took all the clothes in with her; I noted there were two staffers in the fitting area. I decided to keep looking around while she was trying things on. Since I had an empty (covered) disposable cup in hand, I walked towards a different dressing room, in the Wedding section, to see if there was a trash can inside. I ducked my head in the door to see but at all times was completely visible to anyone within thirty feet of me. (There were no clothes in the dressing room, although there was a steamer, not in use.) Suddenly I heard someone running up behind me. "Excuse me! Excuse me! Can I help you??" A sales clerk demanded to help me, and she did not sound accommodating. In fact, she sounded as if I was about to steal something, even though I was not holding any clothing, had only a small crossbody purse, and was wearing slim-fitting clothes - i.e. nowhere to hide anything. "I was looking for a place to toss this," I told her, and showed her the cup. "I can take that for you," she said, and when I reluctantly gave it to her she did not then offer to show me any other clothes, or to ask what I was interested in. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and walked back to where my friend had finished trying on three different items. They were nice, but not exactly what she was looking for, so we started walking out. Once we were outside, my friend said, "You know, the sales person told me, 'TJ Maxx is opening up nearby soon.' I thought that was odd because it's a completely different vibe [from Anthropologie]. But then she said to another customer, 'Our fall fashions are coming in soon!' I guess we are not the kinds of bodies they want to see in there." It was definitely an unwelcoming vibe throughout the store. Even though I have been living within three miles' radius since this Anthropologie store was a bookstore, and we come to Bethesda Row often to eat or watch movies, I will not be shopping at this Anthropologie. read more

I stopped by after getting my hair done recently and loved everything I found. My favorite floor was the 2nd floor with lots of housewares, textiles, and good clearance stuffs. I never noticed how many animal motifs and other related items they carry. A peacock side table, lamps with birds, cushions with birds, turtle shaped small bowl, elephants carved into the wooden dining chairs just to name a few. The quilts and cushions actually looked better and had a wonderful texture. I was totally ready to purchase half a dozen! Good thing my car was parked a few blocks away. I otherwise would have much to my husband's dismay. LOL! The 1st floor and the basement had people jam packed like inside of a can of sardines. It almost resembled a mosh pit so I left pretty quickly without browsing much. All in all, I would love to revisit again especially during the holiday season. read more

It is also directly connected to a Terrain (their gardening shop, also full of beautiful and functional home/garden goods). Amazing location, they have it all here! This may be the biggest anthropology I've ever been to, with 3 floors. They had a bridal section, terrain a plant section, and the whole top floor was furniture. You can really get inspo for every aspect of your life here. The staff were super friendly and there to help if needed. The packaged up my items very nicely at check out. A great store for the ladies. Definitely stop by to experience it for yourself. I've been shopping here for years and have provided Anthropologie with plenty of business in store and online. I recently visited the Bethesda store and purchased a necklace for $50. I am 6 months pregnant and had to use the restroom very bad. I asked the associate who completed my sale if I could used the restroom and she firmly told me "no." I thought this was extremely rude! How about I didn't know that Anthropologie was an all-women's store? I swear I thought it mirrored Hollister or A/E for some reason. All types of apparel - the office, social hour, shoes, jackets, lingerie & Wedding dresses. For the non-wardrobe, there's candles, stationery, body essentials & more. To peruse even further, there's a devoted interior green house called the "Terrain". The garden sanctuary houses beautiful live & faux plants, flowers, floral arrangements. There also a few employees designated to the department. Did you know the hardest plant to kill aka non-green thumb skillset, is a Cactus? What I really took in was the many candles & aromatherapy throughout the wooden backdrop of this peaceful interior garden. There is two huge levels of everything "I'm woman, hear me roar", that you can absolutely find something to your liking. Anthropologie is a haven of a diverse, heterogeneous & everything dame. read more

Well, it's huge and eclectic and ... huge ... and ... well, this is honestly a ridiculously humongous Anthropologie store. The odd thing is that it's not really a good use of the space - items are spread out and oddly sparse (their "petite" selection was not particularly deep despite taking up a fair amount of floor space, just for example). Clearance items were broken and disorganized (worse than shopping at Marshall's). Staff were disinterested - although there were quite a lot of them standing around. That being said, it is a beautiful and airy space, and the design aesthetics are quirkily delightful. I enjoyed wandering around the three floors even though I didn't find anything interesting enough to buy. read more

This is one of the best Anthropologie locations I've been too. They have 3 stories so they have a huge selection including shoes, BHLDN, and furniture which isn't the case at most locations. The store is beautiful and there are a lot of unique clothes to choose from. The customer service here is great too. The in store pickup is completely useless here. You have to go inside and look for someone to give you your order and end up not saving much more time than if you just stood in line. Although the line is like 20 people deep at any given point. Impossible to do any holiday shopping here with young children. They also canceled my pickup order after 2 days despite saying they'd keep it for 4 days. They had to ring it up again. Basically ordering ahead is a waste of time. I wont be doing any more shopping at this location. After waiting 15 min, they tell me I have to stand in line again. I chose to walk away. What a waste of time. read more

Man, if I was an eclectic single woman, I'd go ham in this store. That doesn't mean in anyway to be shady. I'm just saying. It seems that they are unapologetically aiming for this demographic and not turning back. The store if VERY feminine. Lots of hues of pinks, bright oranges, teals, pastels etc. Lots of tassels, frills, poofy balls affixed to things that you haven't seen pooffy balls attached to. Floral patterns with a healthy dose of semi precious stones. And oh the gold accents! My lord there's a lot of gold and brass accents in this store. The whole thing reads VERY feminine. Now, if you're that type of womanly woman, you probably will very much appreciate the store. I mean... obviously I'm not saying that all men won't. Everyone has their own sense of style; but this store seems to be the quintessential pink baby onesie that you are picking if you had a choice in between pink and blue. I would say most stores like this are a yellow one-sie. This one is a pink one. Prices are a bit on the high side. But, you are in downtown Bethesda, don't forget that. What I personally enjoy most about this Anthropologie is the small plant store called "Terrain" that's attached. They have some really cute and unique plants in that store and customer service was very friendly and helpful. JUST one thing though. So I got a little pine shrub thing from them, and they repotted it in a pot that is just a bit too small for the tree. Its super hard to water it cause the soil is basically level with the top of the pot. I might be back for gifts or plants, or to just walk and browse. After driving an hour and finding parking, I went inside and desperately needed the ladies. They said don't have any. 3 floors of items and couldn't fit a restroom in? And you want me to spend money in there? Every country in Europe never said that to me. Even walking down the street in Italy, and first building I saw was a bank. Recently had items shipped to the store, Bethesda branch Anthropologie 3 floors of shopping. I normally have a good experience with Anthropologie but imagine spending money at this store and when you have to use the facilities after picking up the merchandise you ordered and paid for from Anthropologie to be told there are no restroom available for paying customers only for employees. They should remedy this, have been in other stores where this is not the case. Will not be spending my money in Anthropologie anymore. Worst customer service policies. read more

First, the positives. Nice location, store layout and displays lovely, and the opportunity to shop in Terrain a real plus. There are great sales from time to time and on a few occasions, the staff have helped me search for an item in a different size/color. Always appreciated. My main concern is the attitude of some of the staff. It's decidedly inconsistent. During the holiday season, there undoubtedly may be new employees to handle the crush, and a few don't appear to have been trained very well. They are there to serve the customers, and show positivity to make you want to keep shopping. Perhaps it's overwhelming to have a crush of customers after the past several years. But, It is for this reason that I cannot give a higher rating to the Bethesda store. Positive customer service is everything. I've always been a big Anthropologie fan, but after a recent visit to the Bethesda store, I will do more of my shopping in Georgetown where there is more consistency in customer service and the attitudes are generally more positive. read more

This store is beautiful and it is huge! Three floors! I am not sure if there is an elevator for the differently abled but they do show case a grand stair case. I especially love coming here around Christmas to see how it is decorated. This year, they featured plain wooden cooking spoons as their main decor on Christmas trees - interesting, unique and quite simple. The main walk in level has cashiers, clothes, and a garden section. I was surprised by this garden section. Amaryllis everywhere! They also had a calendar to tell you when to plant the bulbs so you can plan what day it blooms. Upstairs is their sale section, furniture section, and other household items like bowls, mugs and since it is Christmas...ornaments! The bottom level has a bathroom, the BHLD wedding dress section, dresses and clothes for special occasions, shoe section, jewelry, bath/smelly section, and additional cashiers. I absolutely love this store, it is really nice walking around and seeing the decor but they are EXPENSIVE. Like $1,500 for a decorative chair and $120 for a sweater expensive. On the day I went, they had an additional sale on their sale items. So, items that are on sale for $100 came down to $50. 60+% off is really cool but you are still spending a lot of money. If you look like you don't belong, the staff will give you more attention. Christmas ornaments are adorable and like $12, the one semi reasonable item. And by the way, there is no men's section. read more

I've been an Anthropology costumer since 2005. I love their stores in Seattle, Falls Church-VA, Georgetown-DC and the ones in NYC. I am going abroad and decided to shop at Anthropology in Bethesda that is an hour from my house. Unfortunately because heavy traffic, I got in the Bethesda store 15 minutes before they closed. The saleswoman by the door, instead of greeting, she rolled her eyes up and instead of good evening yelled : " we are closing in 15 minutes". I started rushing in the store, worried about the time and I could not relax in there. I went downstairs and an old woman with heavy accent, working in the bride department shouted at me and my 9 years old daughter from a corner: " 5 minutes! 5 minutes! 5 minutes! ". She never asked if she could help us with anything. My daughter started freaking out and got nervous. Long story short, I never hated a store so much before like I did on that day. I'm not kidding, if we were stealing we would not be treated differently. If they are so desperate to close, why not close the store at 5 PM and leave the costumers that are already in the store shopping until 6PM. If the stores closes at 6PM, they should leave customers that are already inside, shopping in peace instead of harassing them. What is the point to let a costumer in by 5:59 PM if they are going to be kicked out like an animal 2 minutes later. Anyway, I won't be back at the store ever again. Horrible costumer service. I love this store. However, this location does lent itself to some snobbery. The staff is not always helpful if you have brown skin. The customers you can't do anything about. They are what they are. But the items in the store are just beautiful and exquisite. Charming, cottage core and beyond, artsy, funky, eclectic and very pricey. read more

I'm devastated to hear that this location has pulled their plus size section. Your store is 3 floors!!! 3 floors and you need two whole floors for just 0-12 sizing? After a pandemic? This is a huge store, with terrible customer service, is a shame because they have a beautiful store and offer very nice products, however their employees are dismissive with a bad attitude, their prices are not low by any means and for a big store like that, is awful that they have only 1 register open with a cashier who moves slow and a line of 12 people waiting, I was not about to waste my Saturday standing in line to pay for items that I really didn't need. Prior to visiting the new location I was quite skeptical based on the location within Bethesda Row. Well my mind was changed because of all the parking lots and the easy access to the streets. When I first walked into the store I was greeted by a nice young lady and she asked if I ever been inside of the new location. I told her no, so she explained to me each floor, and asked if I was shopping for something in particular. I told her no and said I wanted to roam around for a while. She then told me there are plenty of people to help so don't be shy. NOW the store - OMG it's huge. 3 levels filled with furniture, kitchen, pantry items. They even have a section just for petites. That's a win for me because it's just easier to shop that way. I didn't roam too much around the furniture so I headed down to the basement level to check out the beauty and wellness sections. I was very surprised about the knowledge of the staff that worked the beauty section. She was very honest about the products that she's tried herself and told me others that she might recommend based off other customers feedback. Although I didn't purchase a lot of items, I found myself in the store for over 30 minutes. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the cleanliness of the store. The clothes are always in order. It's never a mess and that's something to be proud of Anthropolgie!!! I can't wait to come back and check out the rest of the store. read more

We had our first trip to the brand new huge anthro store in Bethesda, which replaced our beloved Barnes and noble. First, the store is WAY TOO BIG. It's an absolute zoo. It took over all of the other anthros in the area which definitely takes away from the unique, exotic shopping experience we were used to. Now this department store feels like a target. The decor is disjointed AND distracting. I feel like their is no cohesiveness. The sale section is cluttered as well as every other part of the store. Do not guess us started about the overpriced gardening section. The Japanese weed puller or whatever that costs like 32 bucks can be easily purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's for 10 bucks or less. The home section is rather nice. Furniture is pretty. Very overpriced. Except the mirrors are def worth it! The clothing is also relative to our anthro standards. Is this a #dobetter situation? Why are the sales associates and management to rude! I truly felt terrible being in there, saw the gentleman with a beard (I'm sure here one of the managers there) walking past me a few times and never said hello or tried to connect with me. At one point I went in the home section and he was just sitting down, instead of trying to connect with his customers. I then was looking at the jewelry and an associate kinda stands next to me replenishing the area, almost so close that I couldn't continue browsing! It was just such a terrible experience not sure how a store with such terrible customer experience is still open!!! read more

Went to Anthropology's wedding section and the dress selection was so much more than I thought it would be for such a reasonable price point. We also worked with Sophia and she was The Best! I don't know why everyone else is complaining that the store is TOO big! That doesn't seem like a legitimate reason to deduct stars. If it was too small people would be complaining that there's not enough of a selection. The Chevy Chase store was so small I was scared my coat would knock over the many precious pieces of ceramic they have on display. It's absolutely beautiful. If you're not feelin the stairs, there's elevators. The Terrain cafe was totally not what I expected. It's a full service restaurant with a bar. I popped in, grabbed a latte to go and drank it as I shopped around. Staff was available, helpful and sweet. I thought I'd miss Barnes & Noble but I can get all their overpriced books on Amazon. Anthropologie's aesthetic has made this space look 100x more appealing. read more

If I could give Anthropology a negative zero I would. I ordered something back in Nov and I have yet to receive my item. I have called several times and they keep giving me the run around. I have asked for a refund and they said no because the item still shows it is in transit after two months. This use to be one of my favorite stores but they do NOT have to worry about me with this poor customer service. Very disappointed. read more

I will always and forever love this store. It has the best window displays and walking into this vast space is like a breath of fresh, expensive, scented air. Aside from the insane variety of clothing, gifts, housewares, shoes, plants, etc. I want to focus on the customer service. Every single person I encountered here was so friendly, helpful, and eager to serve. Mind you, I came in as soon as they re-opened post COVID shutdown. They were able to keep all social distancing under control in a very low stress way. Additionally, the sales clerk who checked me out (I wish I remembered her name!!) was able to ship some items up to NYC for me free of charge and sent me a super friendly email confirmation just 2 hours later. All in All, yes the prices are high. But the sales are great and the quality is top notch. I recommend this place to EVERYONE read more
