AntiGravity Orlando - Silks class - Performing Arts Near Me - Orlando, Florida

Starting with the positive; the performers were very good. Their grace and athleticism was breathtaking at times. The sound track to the, almost, 2 hour show was heavy on Dubstep and some of the artists represented are Bassnectar, Magnetic Man, Taio Cruz and Skrillex. Now for the not so positive... The AntiGravity Orlando is being housed in the old Movie Rider building off of 1-92. The facade of the building is dark and when we walked up, we weren't even sure they were actually open. There was no clear box office or person manning the booth and although we were welcomed by a gentleman, I wasn't sure if he were associated with the theatre or just an inebriated patron. There is a cash bar area over to the left of the theatre serving beer, wine and a few cocktails. Also available are 4 types of hot hors d'oeuvres for around the $4. mark each. I found out that the bar and food is catered by Houlihan's. The smell of the hors d'oeuvres was really cloying as the evening progressed and by mid show I was wishing for the smell to disappear. The show's acts of "anti-gravity" are woven together with a schmaltzy story and narrator. I do not blame the actor, but the script itself made the boyfriend and I roll our eyes and wish for the mic system to fail. It was a "clean" show, however several comments were made to audience members that were out of line. The theatre itself is too small to house the performers and to really see what they were doing I had to crane my neck. There is really no good seat in the house. The surroundings feel grimy, mirrors are cracked and low lighting just adds to the derelict feel. Although I can tell what the designer was aiming for, it just feels poorly executed. Full priced tickets are right at the $40 dollar mark for adults and $25 for children. Thankfully, we were invited to see the show free of charge, as to have been out of pocket for $80 bucks would have been upsetting. If you've never seen aerial acrobatics anywhere else, and you will never be able to see one of the other large and well known troupes, then by all means see this show. Just be prepared for a slightly grungier experience than you were expecting, and I wouldn't buy tickets for too far in the future. read more

I was hooked from my first Lyra class with Kyra ! I'd been curious to try aerial arts for about a year but had been too intimidated to give it a try. Antigravity was the best place I could have taken the leap : all of the instructors are well versed ,active performers and will push you whilst never sacrificing safety. What I love most about this place is that they have something for everyone (they also have kids classes!) ,if you're just looking for a workout , want to learn specialty apparatuses or anything in between you can grow there in a supportive and encouraging environment .The class sizes are just enough to give me space and attention when I need it and the rates are surprisingly affordable -especially with the class passes (which as a university student I really appreciate ) .I wish I'd tried it sooner! This show has been open for two weeks as of the writing of this review and while it got us out of the house on a night that we had planned to stay home, the show was underwhelming. The show is presented in an old "Ride the Movies" building and it feels like a civic theater or grungy basement theater, which isn't so bad I guess, but it doesn't work for this show. You drive into a very dark parking lot, walk up to an unlit box office and it feels very awkward just walking in the door. But then it started to feel like they couldn't afford to turn on the lights or other little things. I say little things because its things like, in the bathrooms there are light fixtures that have bulbs in them, but they aren't turned on. They've redecorated the bathrooms with their own "mood" lighting that just seems cheaply done. There's toilet paper on the back of the toilet instead of the commercial toilet paper holders, there's paper towels on a roll in a basket on the sink vs using the paper towel dispensers that are already on the wall, and then the seat cover dispenser that doesn't have any seat covers in it. Tiny little things that would just make this place "feel" better. There's a tiny bar with drinks for purchase and appetizers, but again it feels sort of warehouse'ish and out of place. We didn't partake in any of the libations, so I can't comment on them. Ok so the show. It's feels very forced and passe'. While the strength and talent of the performers is absolutely incredible, we've seen it all before... The man in the iron ring defying gravity, the women doing acrobats on silk sheets and other elevated elements above your head, men balancing on each other and poles, all choreographed to dubstep type techno music. Oh and then there's the "host" of the show, a schtick that is meant to be funny but feels awkward and corny while he explains how we are in his anti-gravity generator factory thingy. So bottom line, you won't see anything here that you haven't seen either at a theme park, convention show, Cirque or even America's Got Talent TV show... But they did ok with what they had and the performers are definitely talented and are only limited by the budget of the show I think. I think the venue is just too small to give you the "wow" factor that you might expect from the advertising or previous experiences if you've seen any Cirque' show. This type of show has a ton of potential in a huge venue. They might be better off marketing this as a night club that has artistic performances and get rid of the theater seating.... allow people to mingle, eat, drink, dance, listen to the music and watch these talented performers. read more

The best part is with the class pass I am not stuck in one class I can use it for any class in my experience level. Housed in this private, off the main drag theatre are amazing, artistic, athletic acrobats who are dedicated to their performance art. Part of their passion is poured out in daily and nightly classes taught by performers who double as great instructors. They have a stellar ability to recreate the on-stage experience down on the floor during classes that are suited for all ages and fitness levels and personalized to each student who wants to learn and perfect new skills. With all of the benefits of a dance or gymnastics class, it also has the added spark and allure of something new and exciting. Yes, buy your tickets for the show and come to it with an open mind. But, also purchase a class pass and drop in for a mixed-apparatus or beginner level class while you're there. You will learn first-hand the amount of work that goes into each performance as you try for yourself a few of the skills that you'll see later in the show. Antigravity Orlando is an amazing facility for aerial training. They offer a variety of both traditional and unique aerial arts. The coaches are friendly, skilled, and fun. The facility is spacious and accommodates many classes. My only recommendation for improvement would be to offer aerial classes that teach choreography to give aerialists the chance to practice musicality and performance technique. I have taken silks and aerial yoga at this location. I can't wait to try Airbar! read more

Through steady attendance/practice, the instructors get to know you well and help you further your progress. This is imperative for aspiring performers and even those who just want to get an intense workout. I've tried a few aerial class in Orlando and this is by far the best! I've been taking classes here for a little over a year now and it has been one of the best decisions I've made. The instructors are all experienced - both as teachers and as performers - and they really help create a friendly and encouraging environment. From what I can tell, AntiGravity offers the widest variety of apparatus on a regular schedule and they also teach workshops on specialty apparatuses. Whenever people ask me where they can train in Orlando, AntiGravity is always the first place I recommend to them! read more

This is a thrilling, one of a kind show where performers run, jump and fly through the air above your head. The performers bring "the makers" creations to life in the Factory of Wonder and amaze their audience as they tell the story of mans desire to take flight. Firstly, DON'T BRING YOUR CHILDREN. The show is supposed to be family friendly but it's not. Like the other posters, we were not sure it was even a good idea to go after we drove up. The place the show is in is dingy and very dark. My wife said, well, let's give it a chance so we decided to go in. The perfomers were good, that I can't take away from them but the show did not make any sense, it was all over the place, the music was terrible even though my wife and I are in our 30's we couldn't relate to it. When my wife had to take one of our kids to the bathroom, she came back and announced, "we are leaving, it's filthy, no paper or soap, I'm done." so we left before it was over. We honestly don't know how they can even have a show in such a grungy place, it's sad to subject your performers let alone your audience to such horrid conditions. Where is code enforcement? They should be shut down. read more
