Eclectic strip with a broad variety of shops. Some are very intriguing. A pleasant way to spend a couple hours.

What's great about this strip is that in about 8 blocks, there is a whole condensed area of really cool antique shops. Supposedly, this area is the epicenter of US Victorian antiques. It is cool to pursue these shops and find the old remnants of the Victorian age and the west. I have lived here for 19 years, and this strip has changed. Recently, there have been tons of little great restaurants popping up (Maria Empanada, Adelito), very cool little bars ( Black Crown), Coffee shops (Corvus roasters) and also, well, lots of pot shops- can't say much about those. Also a bit of a sketch factor that is cleaning up, but still sketchy especially around Iowa St & Herman's Hideaway. Vintage and thrift shops abound along this strip as well- a great destination for your 1980's collecting is Fifty Two 80's A Totally Awesome Shop. For your costume needs, try Regal Vintage. I avoid Flossy McGrews, and it may even be gone. Terrifying store. But that's the fun of it! The ARC thrift store is actually amazing- a true charity, well run, cleaner, well organized with awesome finds!! My favorites are the Scandinavian Antique Shop and El Paso Imports. Every now and then I get the urge to go flea market and antique browsing. S. Broadway's Antique Row is Denver's King of all things antique. There are upscale shops with European imports, eccentric item shops (there's one antique store that specializes in medical antiques - they have a collection of glass eyeballs), flea market oddities, shops that specialize in chandeliers, shops that only carry old clocks, stores with old books, you name it. Browsing antique row can be an all day excursion if you like digging through old things. Shops on antique row don't offer the best prices in the city, and there are better bargains to be made elsewhere, but you aren't going to find this sheer quantity and eccentricity anywhere else in the city. read more

Very cool part of Denver for sure! Some of these antique stores though have pieces of 'furniture' that are so immense and impractical you wonder why they were made in the first place and how did they wind up here! Some of these pieces are just huge and would not look right in most houses these days! There are also some very cool antique shops that sell great vintage clothes and comic books too! Lots to pick from! Not all of the shops in Antique Row are just antique shops either. Lots of different things! I just discovered a mask store here in the Row that I simply love! Definitely this district is worth a visit! read more

I'm selling some antiques and emailed a bunch of antique stores with a list of items and photos and my contact info. After which someone calling himself Jim Jackson from Broadway Antiques calls me and expresses interest. He acts very cordial and speaks in an English accent and he's all syrupy sweet and calling me "dear" and just couldn't be more polite and solicitous. I ask him to email me a list of the items he wants and the price he will pay for each. I email him back that I accept his offer on all but one item, a small mahogany bench. About the bench I email him: "I'm sorry I can't sell it for $150." I agree to sell the rest of the items to him and send him another email with a summary of our discussion, along with details of condition of each piece, and photos of each including any damage. He agrees to buy them and we make an appointment for him to come to my house and pay cash and pick them up. Next I email him turn by turn directions to get to my house and a map showing the route. Appointment day/time comes and he calls from his car and says he forgot the directions and needs me to talk him in. So I ask where he is and he's not sure and I ask him to look at street signs and he's all befuddled and can't find signs and doesn't know which direction he's facing. There's a giant mountain range to the West, it's 11am on a sunny day, but he can't find the mountains to say which way he's facing. I finally get him to drive to an intersection and read the street signs to me so I can look at the map and direct him in, and I start giving him directions. He names a cross street indicating he went the wrong way so I tell him to turn around and head the opposite way on the same street. Instead he turns down another street and gets more lost. This goes on for about 10 minutes. I give him a simple direction and he does the opposite. He seems disoriented. Finally I manage to talk him to my house. He comes in and heads straight for the mahogany bench that I told him in email I would not sell for his price, and starts to pick it up. I tell him that is not one of the items he's buying, and that I said so in email. He says something like "I'm here to get everything not some things." We're in the office so I go to my PC and show him the email. And he actually says "it doesn't matter I didn't read it." I say something like "that's not my fault, it's not for sale." He's openly angry and says "then we have a problem... but let's look at the other stuff." I'm not pleased with his behavior but I want to complete the transaction so I continue to show him the other items, all of which he'd agreed to buy in email: oak storage bench, stool, cedar chest, mahogany table, etc. He picks up each item one by one, doesn't even glance at it, barks that it's more damaged than he thought, and slams each back onto the ground. For example, cedar chest: He picks up one end, pulls it away from the wall, and drops it on the carpet. Doesn't even look at it. Just barks "it's too damaged I can't take it." I say that it has the exact damage (two hairline cracks in the veneer otherwise perfect) I reported and sent him photographs of. He snaps "it's worse than I thought." I recognize that antique dealers strategy is to act like the merchandise is a pile of splinters so they can pay as little as possible. So I don't say much else and lead him back upstairs. Once back upstairs he again went for the mahogany bench and announced that he was buying all or nothing. Weird that minutes ago he reported that everything was too damaged and now he's insisting that he wants it all. So I said "we're done, bye." And he just stood there looking stunned. I again said, "we're done, leave" and he replied "you're not being very nice." Finally I said "get out!" At this point he reached his arm out, grabbed my shoulder and said, with no hint of an English accent, "be nice now." I smelled alcohol on his breath. Suddenly his driving problems made sense. I reacted sharply to his shoulder grab and smell, jumped back and yelled at him to get out. He just stood there until I said I was calling the police and continued to tell him to get out, over and over. He finally left thru the front door. I was furious at his attempts to intimidate me and followed him to the driveway and continued yelling at him to get out. I stood outside watching for a while to make sure he was gone. Then I called the store to find out if he had a manger I could report the incident to. I ended up talking to his wife who was every bit as charming as he and didn't want to hear about his behavior. Another attempt I got a voice mail greeting recorded by someone calling himself Jim Jackson. He had no English accent. I never did locate a manager; apparently he is the manager. Gads. So that's it. Great place to spend an afternoon shopping! I love going antiquing and really enjoy shopping here. As in most places, you have to pick and choose your shops. Stay away from Packrat Antiques, the owner is a foul older gentleman and shop is more full of parts and pieces than any real collectors items. I love Lucky-Jack's, it's a family run business and the owners are alway there and very willing to bargain. Also try Corky's, Gallagher's, and Finders Keepers. read more

Yelpers you failed me! What kind of a "Antique Row" doesn't have any serious glass stores? Sure there are some places with neat furniture and various other junk... but nothing mentionable in the way of fine smaller antiques (at least not in the 5 stores I tried). I was expecting there to me a lot more here than what was. Bummer... read more

This District we actually found on yelp and they do have tons of antique malls. I will tell you we had no luck selling antiques to shops here but it is a great place to go and shop. Enjoy and get your exercise while doing it. read more

I'm convinced the woman that runs Antique Broadway Broker doesn't give a damn about sales, as she was not at all friendly and I had been debating on making a purchase but left because of her. She was having a very loud phone conversation when we walked in and did not acknowledge us at all. I was browsing through some of the old advertisements, specifically the old Pontiac ads. Since there was a lot of them and I was looking for a particular car. I removed the Pontiac ads, placed them on the top of the box and began flipping through them. Keeping them in the order they were in, mind you. When the woman is done with her phone conversation she comes over and does not say hello or if we're looking for anything but immediately tells me "You're not supposed to look at those that way. Now I have to reorganize them all." There was no sign to not remove them from the box, and there were so many jammed in the boxes it was not possible for me to flip through them while in the box. The ads were separated by vehicle type, I was looking at just one type and kept them in the order in which I found them. If she wanted to be nicer about it she could have asked me if I was looking for a specific one and helped me find it if she was so worried about me messing up her order. I stopped looking and just put them back despite the fact that I more than likely would have bought one. Also, her desire to keep things organized just seemed ridiculous when you go upstairs and the place is completely trashed it's hard to tell what's what and there's barely enough room to walk through. The person working upstairs was just as courteous, having a phone conversation the whole time without acknowledging us. The only acknowledgement through the whole store was her reprimanding me, and then she just sat back down. While I understand they probably get a lot of people just browsing, every other antique store we visited the person said hello and asked if we needed help. Had she done the same, she would not have lost a sale. read more
