What a gem! Far enough away from Durango to enjoy the frogs at night and birds chirping in the morning, close enough that is less than 10 mins from main street in durango. The property is filled with beautiful flowers and trees. The room was clean and welcoming. The temperature control was perfect and the accommodation for dietary restrictions was much appreciated. This is a thoughtful place where you can feel all the love that has gone into it.

Amazing bed and breakfast and I highly recommend. Very friendly people and very comforting! The breakfast was amazing and everything is made by their own private Chef! The only thing was our fan wasn't working in the room. The bedroom we had was located on the first floor of another building and we were there for our 20th anniversary so we didn't have any children with us. However the top floor did and it sounded like a stampede of elephants above us at 6am every morning which wasn't the owners fault but I would definitely ask what room you will be getting and ask if there will be a family with small children above you lol. To their ability everything else was perfect. I will definitely be back but to a different room. Stunning landscape, very clean inside and out! They even offer happy hour every day at 5 with wonderful drinks and appetizers.

After we got engaged Susan decorated the room for us!

We absolutely loved this place and will definitely stay here again. After traveling to Durango for years and years we found this place and we were nothing short of pleasantly surprised. Susan and her employees were incredible. Everything from the room to the delicious breakfast was incredible. My now fiancé was able to be in contact with Susan the owner leading up to our trip to make this trip perfect. The room was very clean. The breakfast was undeniably the best we've ever had. And the property was beautifully kept.

Excellent in every respect! We spent 4 nights in the Hermosa room and our visit was wonderful from beginning to end. Julia was a huge help for hiking and outdoor recommendations. Curtis made an amazing "breakfast-to-go" each day, since we needed to hit the trails early. Our room had a remodeled bathroom (see photo) and the rest of the room seemed newly painted. There's wine every afternoon and an outdoor hot tub. In all, SO wonderful!

Antlers on the creek bed and breakfast is absolutely amazing! We stayed here on our vacation to Durango. It's a short drive out of town, and in fact many locals do not know about it. It's a large house on a beautiful property. Susan, the inn keeper thought of every last detail to make our stay was a memorable one. Let's start with breakfast, homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit, the first day our first course consisted of kiwi and watermelon with a homemade scone. Main course was French toast with fig jam, havarti cheese, ham, topped with a fried egg with grilled asparagus on the side. Second day: first course was grilled pineapple with frozen yogurt and a homemade hazelnut biscotti, main course: yeast waffles with homemade fruit compote and three slices of thick cut delicious bacon. Needless to say, this was a hearty, delicious breakfast that lasted well into the afternoon. In addition to a fabulous breakfast, there are cookies in the afternoon and a happy hour where they serve beer, or margaritas and an appetizer. The first day there was a spinach dip and the second some crackers and spreadable cheese options. Both very tasty. Then there was the room, extremely comfortable bedding, with nice pillows. My husband and I travel with our pillows, as we have a difficult time with other pillows, however we did not need to use our own, and in fact, even purchased a special boomerang shaped pillow from her. Room was spacious with a nice shower, nice bath towels and robes. Because there is a hot tub in the property, the room was also stocked with beach towels. A few nice details included: a basket with toiletries including toothbrushes, toothpaste, q tips, sunscreen, and make up remover wipes, in case you forget something. Also the showers are stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Lastly, the day of our departure, Susan made us up a road bag which had bottled waters and cookies for my entire family! She also knew we were heading to Mesa verde national park and provided a map for us. So many nice touches and friendly folks at this B & B, it our favorite part of our vacation. I truly can't say enough about it. Thank you Susan for the lovely time!

I wish I could've stayed longer! The room has AC and a ceiling fan (double bonus), ear plugs, fresh flowers, local coffee, and other amenities such as dishes, soap, makeup remover wipes, an iron and ironing board, cold water in the fridge. I have never stayed at a place that felt so homely. The bed was comfy and thank goodness there was no down comforter- I get so hot with those no matter the temp. They also own a restaurant and bar next door- such a convenience! My mom and I enjoyed some cold brew and beers outside while waiting for our check in time. Hands down, the best place I've stayed! Keep up the wonderful work, as it shows.

This is the kind of charming, historic Durango experience you hope to find downtown. The atmosphere inside the hotel and restaurant feels authentic and welcoming, with old Western character throughout. The bartender was even dressed in theme, which added to the experience without feeling gimmicky. We stopped in during April while wandering downtown Durango during the off-season, when many places were either closed or only opening later for dinner service. We just came in for drinks, but it ended up being a really enjoyable little break from exploring. Since the restaurant is part of the historic hotel, even walking to the restroom gives you a chance to see some of the beautiful vintage details and history of the property. Our bartender -- a gentleman in a hat -- was attentive and friendly, and a lady in costume shared some interesting history about the hotel and building. Great little pit stop whether you're staying at the hotel or just passing through downtown. Would absolutely stop in again.

We just celebrated our anniversary at the Strater Hotel in Durango, and it was exactly what a…read moreromantic getaway should be. From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel like you've stepped into another era--in the best way possible. The Victorian charm, the historic details, the creaky wood floors, the antique furnishings... it all creates this warm, intimate atmosphere that you simply don't get at modern chain hotels. It feels authentic, not staged. Our room was cozy and beautifully appointed, with thoughtful touches that made it feel special rather than standard. The entire property is impeccably maintained, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and clearly proud of the hotel's history. The location is perfect--right in the heart of downtown Durango--so you can stroll to shops, restaurants, and along Main Avenue without ever moving your car. That made the whole weekend feel relaxed and easy. If you're looking for a place with personality, history, and romance, the Strater delivers. It was the perfect setting to celebrate our anniversary, and we're already talking about when we can return.
