I must premise my review that I avoid Mexican food because of health concerns. So much of the Mex diet consists of meats, fried items and sugary drinks. That said , I seek out healthy choices and this is one of the tastiest! The enchilada plate with calabasas (squash) is absolutely delicious! The fresh salsas add to the flavor symphony here!!

My friend and I checked out Antojitos Como en Casa on a Sunday morning for brunch. The dining room was completely full which is a great sign--very popular among locals. However, the waiters were swamped and took three asks to finally get the menu and water. I highly recommend checking out the Plato Huatesco. The arrachera asada is legit! Very well marinated and tender. The quesadilla is also delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Mexican food. I will come back hopefully on a less busy day.

On our way to Arizona we stopped here for a quick lunch based on the good Yelp reviews, and the reviews were right. This is a great 5 star casual restaurant to stop by in El Centro. I had the chilaquiles with 2 eggs over easy and they were the best I have had. I think what really made it great was the home made chips which stayed crispy and delicious throughout the meal. Usually chips in chilat most places quickly get soggy but these stayed pretty crisp I think because they were home made thick chips which tasted like they were just made. My wife and son had the enchiladas (one had the green sauce and the other the red) and both really enjoyed those as well. Service was pretty good as well, though it seems that they all take turns coming by the tables. We started with one person who took the order, but then had 2 or 3 others people either bringing the dishes or the check so you just have to ask any of the servers around you if you need something, but they are nice and responded quickly to anything we needed.

Amazing food great prize and THE TASTE ON GRANDMAS COOKING!!!!!!! Food 10/10, service prompt, friendly, accommodating and filled with gratitude, ambiance has good musics, great lighting, and configurations for all party sizes. The mixiote was so good the meat fell right off the bones. Coffee made me think I was back in Mexico enjoying the good life. And as far as my families plates the Menudo on point and eggs were finely cooked with great quality ingredients. Definitely recommend to anyone in el centro or passing by like we were on our trip from San Diego to Yuma.

We came in here late evening and were graciously accommodated. Our server was fantastic. We had the cheese enchiladas which were quite good. The kids had quesadilla which was also tasty. They even sent out a nice desert from the chef for the kids. Very kind. It is right next to the courthouse which makes for a nice after dinner stroll.

Let me just say that if you are craving some Mexican food and you are from out of town, this is the right spot. Feels cozy and in my opinion very authentic location. Lets talk about the food now. Food tasted as authentic as can be. However, the rice is not to my liking at all. Other than that all was tasty. Food came out warm, not alot of waiting. We did visit on a Tuesday morning. Coworkers and I stopped by for a late lunch before driving back to San Diego and the main seating area was full! It was a good sign that this restaurant was popular and turned out good food as well. They were out of agua fresca but the ice teas we ordered instead almost had to be two handed as they were so large. Food was authentic and filling. Chicken enfriojoladas were just like an enchilada but covered with a bean sauce. The green pozoles, only served Thursday's, were a hearty stew that my coworkers raved about. Now that we are traveling again this will be one of our go to options on the way to/from Mexicali.

Stopped by for breakfast with my wife and mom over the weekend and we were not disappointed. The inside has a wonderful aesthetic, feels very homey and authentic. It did feel a bit crammed in there, but it was a Sunday and they were super busy so not going to fault them for that. The food itself was absolutely delicious. I had the breakfast chilaquiles with beans and rice, my wife had the bean sopes with beans and rice and my mom had the pozole. I also had their tamarindo with lemon which was really refreshing, never had it like that before. If you like authentic Mexican food than definitely stop by. Little mom and pop restaurants are always the best and this one is the real deal. Easily some of the best Mexican food in the valley. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

I went during the lunch rush and it was packed. They must be used to it because the service was quick and efficient. I ate the plate of enchiladas. They were presented with such style and were delicious. On the other hand, I felt like I had gotten the last of the rice from the pot because it was burnt and not as flavorful. Came based on other reviews while here on business. The service was excellent! Unlike some other reviews, I had no wait for chips, salsa, and drink. The chunky salsa is SO good! My order was taken promptly and food arrived soon after. I ordered the green enchiladas plate. Everything was quite good. I loved how the enchiladas had a good amount of chicken and not too much cheese. The green salsa had a tang to it but quite tasty. Considering I have Mexican restaurants at home on nearly every corner, I'd say this place is worth a try! read more

There service... food... receipt process ALL GREAT!! I had the chilaquiles one day, with rice and beans... and a vegetarian burrito with grilled zucchini and avocado the next. PLEASE MAKE SURE you RESPECT THE SALSA!! The hostess warned me, but I thought I could handle it! It's super tasty... and the Chile toreado was delish!! Definitely coming back for more!! read more

The name says it all... Truly a great spot to satisfy your homemade cravings. I was in the area on business and one of my Supervisors brings me here because I wanted a good cup of coffee. He recommended Cafe de la Olla. Wow! It was so satisfying, so delicious I truly wanted more but one cup was more than enough. To accompany my coffee I order the sopes plate. Came with a side of rice and beans. The sopes are just how I like them; crispy. Both the beef and chicken were wonderfully flavorful topped with beans, lettuce, salsa, and cheese. Yum! The service here is very warm and friendly. Not sure how often my Supervisor comes here to eat but they knew him by name. The atmosphere is very keen on Mexican heritage. Brings me back to my grandmothers place. I can't wait to be back in the area to try more off the menu and grab another Cafe de la Olla. read more

I'm so happy that I was able to try Antojito como en casa! I was on a business trip and I stopped by for a quick bite. I am very picky with Mexican food and this place has authentic delicious Mexican food. They have awesome, friendly servers and a variety of food choices. I ordered a sope de casa and a beef tostada with a side of rice and beans! It was delicious! I had a bite of the green enchiladas an man oh man they are yummy!!!! I tried the chilaquiles as well as a cheese enchilada with verde sauce. The verde sauce was TO DIE FOR! You can tell their sauces are all made in house and both were full of many different flavors, all perfectly melded. The chilaquiles were perfectly crispy and the one enchilada was massive. My only complaint was the rice was a bit dry, but once mixed with beans and some of that wonderful sauce I didn't even notice. read more

Sat there for 25 minutes after we had finished what we could of our food before the waitress even came back out to check on us. Charged $7 for a small bowl of guacamole. Couldn't even enjoy our guacamole or salsa because the chips were so hard and horrible tasting, what can you expect when they're store bought out of a bag! Save your money and your time and hit up Taco Bell. read more

Second time at this restaurant. Unfortunately it took us over 2 years to get back. I'm so glad I wrote the last review so I knew just what to order. First of all the salsa is outrageously good. Spicy and flavorful. I ordered the beef enchilada plate with red sauce. The flavors are so good. I loved the fresh cilantro and onion on top. Also had the coconut horchata. So refreshing and good. Very good, prompt service, although no hostess welcomed us. Agua de mango was just right, not too sweet but mango flavored. Tostada de pollo had juicy bits of chicken breast with beans lettuce cotija cheese, sour cream (Mexican sour cream I suspect because it was runnier and better than American sour cream which overwhelms most dishes) and slices of avocado. I ordered the chilaquiles plate for today's Sunday breakfast. I was really disappointed. The chilaquiles were delicious but it only came with one slice of avocado? And then it stated online that on Sundays it comes with house potatoes but it came with some burnt rice. The beans were also REALLY oily, like the oil is visible. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I was really exited to eat so it's definitely a big bummer. read more

Tried this place twice. Once a while back I was sick and wanted a caldo. You know like the ones your mom makes. Nope not having it. Not like what mom makes. It was bland had a couple pieces of meat and a few vegetables. Not worth it. Went again a couple months ago. Not good this time rice was undercooked and overstalted. I'll end my review by mentioning that their prices were very reasonable. Our bill came out to just over $40 for a party of four. It turned out to be the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had, absolutely phenomenal. I could t save any they were so good. The best ive ever experienced. I had the chicken fried steak and home fries and everything came out fresh and hot. The staff was friendly and attentive and never let my coffee cup get empty. Anytime I'm passing through El Centro, I'll make it a point to stop here for breakfast, especially for the biscuits and gravy.

The food was delicious and the bus boy was great, i must have thanked him at least five times for doing something for me. Perhaps my timing was just bad because my waitress took my order and then took lunch, she never helped me again because she was sitting two tables in front of me talking with a female friend, i believe she was another waitress or cook. After finishing my food i sat at my table for an additional ten minutes hoping to at least have my tea refilled which it never was, i noticed the bus boy had left for the day because he was saying goodbye to those in the restaurant. I would have liked to have personally handed him a tip but it was too late and i didnt want to leave a tip for the waitress at the table because it was not deserved. I dont believe you should receive a tip for taking my order and then have the busboy do all the servicing. If the waitresses can have the same work ethic as the guy whom cleans the tables then this place has the potential to be five stars because the food is great, but the waitstaff needs some work so im going with a three for now. read more

I have read so many great things about this place but today I was very disappointed. I ordered cafe de olla: too sweet and just a tad of cinamon, enchiladas de pollo: extremely salty sauce, and rice. The enchiladas were made with a corn tortilla with bland luke warm shredded breast chicken and folded in halves. A great green sauce but too salty. Great presentation. (I let the manager know and she did not charge for my plate and graciously asked if there was anything else she could bring). I am very careful with salt becuase of high blood pressure and prefer to be able to add than not able to take away. My hubbie had the Chilaquiles and although being Sunday, it did not come with the potato as advertised which is Ok but nothing to be wowed. Food came out very quickly. The agua frescas were extremely sweet. Will return to give it another try. Our girl waitress was very new but the rest of the staff were great. read more

Food was amazing. I have never had such a delicious cheese enchilada. Very clean restauraunt. Staff seem to take pride in the place. Only complaint is I was not happy that I was left without any attention to my table after my food was served. I asked the waitor for a refill on my water as he put the food on my table, but he did not hear me as he was in a rush. Maybe they need more staff. I then had to flag someone else down. Kind of a pain. So did not leave a tip. But still giving this 5 stars because for a disgusting town like El Centro it is nice to find a clean restauraunt serving food with high quality ingredients and the prices were very low for food of this quality. I really enjoyed this restaurant. I've been to a bigger version of the restaurant a few years ago; there were like two stories and live mariachi music. I was excited to find one at my local town (El Centro, CA). The food was good, as well as the service. It's a busy place most of the time, which means there's lots of noise. My comfort level dropped a little while my anxiety level rose. But overall, I would definitely come back just because it holds a special place in my heart. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants around. Not the usual looking food. The dishes are very well put together. A little fancy i would say. But that does not take away from the flavor of the food. They serve the best birria de borrego there(only on the weekends). Great drinks. Try the agua de platano. It's a little hidden, but not hard to find. Very quaint place. read more

Ordered a to go menudo today for $9.99 and they didn't even fill up the container all the way. For that price we were expecting it to be full. We ate chilaquiles and my brother ordered rolled tacos de harina and he said that the order was wrong. Waiters seem overwhelmed. Food is good but I'll never buy menudo here again. read more

Everything I've had here from the caldo to the chilaquilas has been hands down the best food period in the imperial valley. If you are stopping by ask about Aguas frescas which are usually different by the day and made daily. Robert and his family continue to do a great job! read more

I had the chilaquiles plate my mom had the corn flautas and they were delicious ... The cook is fantastic and the service was great. If you live in el Centro or passing by on the I-8 and want some delicious Mexican food stop there and you will get it. read more
