Amazing food!!!! What a wonderful surprise! You get into a parking lot and you will find a door with stickers which hide the gem: a small store with great people, ready to welcome you and provide a great service! It is a store, so do not get surprised. Even though the sitting area is small, it is clean and cozy due to the wonderful customer service they provide! My daughter found this place and I will be back many times!!

Arepa Zone, which is next door to and under the same ownership as Antojitos de tu Pais, makes good food and is probably great for catering. As far as walking in and getting an arepa goes, however, it's pretty ridiculous. I wanted to try it because it's close to my house and in an industrial park where you wouldn't expect a business to be. I had my husband run in and order for me while I was in the car with our baby. They said it would be 10 minutes--which would've been fine. My husband ended up waiting in there for over 30 minutes--we only ordered two arepas and an empanada. He was the only person in there ordering food. Meanwhile, I was circling the parking lot...there were no spaces except ones threatening to tow. Since it's an industrial park, I had to get out of the way of several delivery trucks. It was just stressful. Then we got the food...no napkins which was annoying considering how greasy it is. The black bean and queso fresco arepa was just okay. The one with black beans, queso fresco, plantains, and beef was really good (but very greasy!) The chicken empanada was amazing! Green mayo sauce was just okay. I mean, obviously it was super fresh but it didn't need to take so long! This would be a go-to for arepas if they could just get it together!

Finding this place was like going on a scavenger hunt! Once we got to the location, the only indication we had was the food truck parked outside. We arrived shortly before ten on Saturday and found the door, finely pulling the door and entering. The store consisted of two cold cases, some shelving, a heated case for the empanadas and the cashier's station. We ordered 7 empanadas - 2 for my wife, 2 for my sone and three for me. They had just finished being prepared and were piping hot. Crunchy and airy, wow! . They are a little pricy, but they are also the best we've had outside of Venezuela. Since we don't have a store like this in Richmond, we did go a bit overboard! Buying cheeses, cachacas, taquenos, candy and a tee shirt. Just had a couple of the taquenos and they were solid. I didn't give them 5 stars for two reasons. One, in my humble opinion, you can't be s small growing merchant, as they are, and not be stocked. For our visit, they were missing two items - queso de mano and the regular size cachapas. The other reason is that several items were overpriced, based on what we've purchased elsewhere in the states. Overall, if we're in that part of Northern Virginia we would surely visit again (heck, we would have visited again on Sunday for more empanadas, if they were open!).

I used to have a friend from Venezuela who made these fresh. This is the only arepa place I have eaten at that can compare. My friend and I tried them I got the shredded beef with black beans white cheese and plantains in it and she got the shredded chicken with cheddar cheese. We both liked the beef one best but she said if she had added black beans to the chicken one they would have both been excellent. I saw in another review someone complain about the wait but it was well worth it and the girl at the desk was really nice. It is greasy but good greasy. We will both definitely be back for more. I only took a picture of the chicken one because I devoured my beef one haha. I like the green cilantro garlic sauce too.

Empanadas!

From my understanding Antojitos de tu Pais is the building location associated with the food truck Arepazone. This place is a bit of a "hole in the wall," but I have found those are the best for finding authentic ethnic foods! In this case, Venezuelan food. It's a small place with a few tables, or you could get it to go. Also, they have a little shop inside, which sells Venezuelan snacks. Some of our favorites include Ovomaltina (nutella in a tube) and Cocosette (coconut wafer cookies). Unlike the foodtruck, ADTP sells empanadas- and they are probably the best I've ever had! The key is the dough, which is similar to arepa dough if you've had them, but a bit sweeter. If you've never had empanadas, they are bread pockets with different fillings inside. They have a few different fillings; we tried: queso (cheese), pollo mechado (chicken stew), and Pabellon (beef, fried plantains, black beans, cheese). They also sell Tequenos, which are like the mozzerella sticks of Venezuela...actually better IMO! There's a green garlicy sauce on the table along with a spicier one. The food was FANTASTIC!! Sweet and savory and buttery all at once- yum! I found about this place from my soon-to-be father in law, who is Venezuelan-American. I'm not sure how he found out about it, but clearly word had spread among the community because it appeared to be a popular little place on a Saturday at lunchtime. To others like me who do not speak Spanish, don't be afraid! I ordered an extra empanada in English and it was no problemo! Please don't let that stop you from trying this fabulous restaurant out! Finding it can be a bit tricky- drive down Spring Street until the road starts to curve left, then turn left into a parking lot. It will look like nothing but storage/warehouse units, but ADTP is tucked in there I promise! Walk toward the back of the parking lot (away from Spring Street) and it's on your left about halfway down. Also, I recommend checking out their Facebook page (click the "translate" option) for more info, including address and hours: https://www.facebook.com/AntojitosDeTuPais/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED

Good food, but their cashiers are rude and lack customer service skills; they have no manners and leave a bad impression on this facility!

I don't even have a huge appetite, and the amount of food I received was still surprisingly small. The service was also disappointing from the moment I arrived. The restaurant was completely empty, yet no one greeted me or acknowledged me when I walked in. I eventually had to walk over to the bar area myself to ask about my pickup order. The woman working there looked confused that I was even asking and mumbled a response I could barely understand. I figured maybe she was busy, so I waited, but the entire experience became increasingly uncomfortable. I stood there awkwardly for about 10 minutes while the employees talked amongst themselves and kept looking over at me, yet no one updated me on my order or even spoke to me. The worst part was the food itself. The potatoes in the Papa a la Huancaína were cold and partially raw. I literally had to finish cooking them in the microwave at work. The empanada was decent, and the alfajor would have gotten better marks if it weren't for the small hair I found on it, but overall the experience was not worth the price. Unfortunately, I wouldn't ever come back. Revash has better portions, better prices, and overall much better food.

I do think that a mix of the steak and other dishes is a good balance but it would've been great to have more greens as an option. But then again, this isn't something that is unique to this restaurant alone or the type of cuisine. I would love to watch a great soccer game or other sports event here to root on a local team. It is the perfect combination of solid food, genuine vibes, and great service.

I looked at their menu, then set out to learn about their various entrees. My husband agreed to give it a try. Before going, we settled on trying "Pabellon Criollo" which is considered the Venezuelan national dish. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. and were surprised to see a few large parties dining in. Also, people came in to get their takeout orders. Not sure as to how the ordering worked when dining in, we made our way to their counter. The owner, Carlos, spotted us and got 2 menus. We confirmed that we wanted to dine in. Carlos is very friendly and welcomes customers with a smile. He also was our server. To drink, I had a lemonade while my husband had a can of Coke. We let Carlos know that we were both having the Pabellon Criollo. This dish consists of black beans with a bit of shredded cheese on top, white rice, carne mechado (which was shredded), 2 arepitas (small arepas) and some platanos maduros. When the food came, it was obvious that the platanos were freshly made. Carlos also brought a bottle of brazza sauce (also called "salsa de amor). He told us we could put it on any item we wanted. It's a mild sauce which is mayonnaise based with cilantro. We enjoyed this dish. Everything was mildly seasoned yet still well flavored. Nothing went to waste! When it was time to pay the check, Carlos rang us up. We both say we would like to return and try their steaks. From start to finish, we had a great experience.
