After adventuring out into DC during the weekend, my partner and I wanted to grab some food close to the metro stops in Falls Church or Fairfax. I wasn't feeling up to the big chains and places I wanted to try seemed to close early. Luckily this place was open and I had been wanting to try it for a while. Definitely it let a hidden gem! There are some parking spots right in front, although not many. There is a decent amount of seating, but it would be tight if you had a large party. My partner did note that the bathrooms weren't that great. You immediately get served complementary chips and salsa. They were pretty basic, but not bad. We ordered the following: + Papusas (Pork and Cheese & Loroco and Cheese) - Decent, although I prefer the Loroco (an edible flower bud). + Pollo à la Primavera (chicken dish) - Yummy, especially the sauce which mixes well with their hot/spicy sauce too! I could do without the salad dressing. + Camarones con Calabeza (shrimp dish) - Same as above! Note they leave the tails on. + Natural Juices (Mango and Maranon) - So refreshing! I loved the Maranon (cashew apple) was a wonderful burst of tropical sweetness with a subtle nutty taste. I appreciate that for the pupusas they had the foresight to provide my partner and I two plates so we could sphere the papusas. The portion sizes of the entrees were great for the price. It did take a while for the staff to swing by so that we could get boxes and the check. Note that credit cards and mobile pay are accepted. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again to try more items on their menu. read more

La Campesina is my go-to restaurant whenever I'm craving authentic, homestyle Mexican food. The vegetarian enchiladas and fried plantains are my favorites. The meat options were also greatly appreciated by my friends who joined me at the restaurant. Ask for the in-house spicy salsa if you like a kick of spice. The prices are very reasonable for the generous portion sizes. The service is friendly, and the food arrived in a decent amount of time even when the restaurant was busy. This place is legit. I've been here three times in the last month and I always keep coming back for the same thing. I get the Camarones con Calabaza and it's just so delicious. The cream sauce is amazing and the shrimps are so fresh. My friend and I also always share their nachos either chicken. They prepare is so neatly. It doesn't look like a lot but it's surprisingly filling. It was pretty packed on a Saturday night (they have a small dining area) so there were a few people waiting for tables. They're super fast to bring out the food so we finished quickly and were happy to give our table to the next customer. I'll keep coming back here and probably keep ordering the same dish. read more

I was craving guacamole so I searched up a place. I was excited to come here because it's local and had really good reviews however was very disappointed. I placed the fresh 'guacamole' for pick up which ended up being a total of $18-$19. It came with a container of mashed avocado, JUST mashed avocado; no salt, no garlic, no onions, no jalapeño, no lime, only topped with a couple slices of tomato and cilantro. When I got home and tried it I was so disappointed, I ended up adding all those ingredients myself. To charge almost $20 for 'guacamole' and have it just be mashed avocado is ridiculous. It did come with salsa that had a light flahor in a 2 ounce container. The only positive was the amount of chips I received. All of the good reviews I saw about it was when thry ate in store, so maybe it was because I chose pick up. Wouldn't go again. read more

The absolute best home style food around. The place is small and on route 29, but dont be fooled; our new go to! Food is always warm, portions are filling and prices are reasonable. There are a few cafe tables out front and 10, or so tables inside. The plantains are just how I cook them, without the mess. You get 1 whole plantain with sauce on the side. Shrimp is seasoned just right. Rice sides actually have flavor- unlike other shops that just throw some dried parsley on it. Just try it, you won't go wrond. read more

La Campesina is a neighborhood spot which is popular with families and the happy hour crowd as well. They have a wide variety of drinks that look really fun. We didn't have a chance to try any the day we were there but we liked the looks of them as they passed to other tables. Soon after you sit down, you are greeted warmly and given a basket of tortilla chips (also warm) and salsa. It is embarrassing how quicky we finished our basket. Las Campesina didn't judge - they just kindly proffered even more - yum. We decided to go for a variety of appetizers to share. Our favorites were the pupusas chicharon and the platanos fritos. The gambas al ajillo were fine as were the emanadillas. The only disappointment was the ceviche that seemed to have a very diluted leche de tigre. We did really like the fresh avocado on the top. The seating is comfortable and our table was overflowing with plates. Though there wasn't that much room, I still wished our individual plates were a little bigger. It was hard to take more than one item at a time because they were small. This left even less room on the table because, everyone trying their favorite first, we didn't empty any of the serving plates right away. Small restaurant and food here is VERY good!! Everything is made fresh and the guacamole was delicious! Happy hour menu feels like a hidden gem and my friend absolutely loved the happy hour prices on there. The NY strip and shrimp were very flavorful and definitely worth it. The next time I would probably skip the Yucca! Overall the service was great, server kept bringing drinks to my friend who was very pleased. A hidden gem - this is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the area. This is a quintessential hole-in-the-wall - it's clean but small, not particularly fancy, and pretty simple. That said, you can tell that there's a lot of love to it - the staff are friendly (and the owner is always around working hard), the service is lightning-quick, and you can just tell there's a lot of effort being put in despite the simple digs. I ordered queso with poblano peppers, a chicken chimichanga, a pork and cheese pupusa, and a bean and cheese pupusa, to go. The chimichanga came with rice, beans, pico de gallo and guacamole. The pupusas came with the traditional slaw and sauce. The packaging for the to go order was excellent, all food items were kept separate and presented a nice appearance. I enjoyed everything, but the queso was probably my favorite, delicious! I placed my order online and arrived early, so I was offered a seat at a table and brought chips and salsa. I decided that a margarita would go great with my chips and salsa, so I had one of those as well, lol. It was a solid margarita, definitely generous in size, and I ordered a small. The best place for a good happy hour deal in the DMV area; no other place compares. They have daily happy hour drinks and food specials; as well as a Blue Moon special on Mondays ($3 for 16 oz). Their HH is a good time to explore and sample their menu, without having to make a big commitment to just one dish. I love their free unlimited chips and salsa. I would definitely recommend getting their taquitos, chicken tacos, and chorizo breakfast burrito, but honestly, I haven't had anything here that I don't like. Tip: ask for their hot sauce. The chicken burrito had exquisitely good chicken inside: flavorful, nicely charred, and tender. The rest of the platter was pretty uninspired standard texmex rice and refried beans. And the tortilla was ok, but not incredible. I now understand why people prefer the chimichanga (the tortilla texture and quality is masked.) You'll get a good meal here. Surprisingly delicious. We loved the guacamole and the grilled salmon. The mushroom sauce that came with the grilled salmon special, and was very yellow, but it was absolutely divine. The piece of salmon was way better than either of us expected for a restaurant with pictures and specials plastered all over their windows and plastic outdoor tables. This has become our favorite happy hour spot! This is a small location on Rt 29 near the mosaic in an industrial strip. The parking right in front is limited but many of the businesses in the strip close early so we usually find a place close by. Happy hour runs until 7PM and happens everyday, that's right, they have HH on weekends. We tried it the first outside of happy hour & really enjoyed it. Then we learned about the happy hour & now it is one of our favorite spots. The drinks are good, I like the sangria / margarita frozen combo. We have enjoyed all the food and drinks we have tried. The staff is both knowledgeable and nice. No complaints, only positive experiences we have shared with several friends over the past few months. Visited last night after discovering this place in a quick google search. I'd driven by a ton of times and hadn't realized it's here. When arriving, parking was a little full and the "lot" is tight but they have a lot in the back which we opted for. This is a hole in the wall type place as the interior is smaller but wow, everything was amazing! The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips and salsa was so flavorful. We got the southwestern egg rolls and these were amazing. They tasted freshly made and came with a delicious dipping sauce. I got the El Trio, with 3 different types of meat (chicken, steak, and shrimp) and everything was grilled perfectly. I especially liked the chicken. My dad got the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and these were probably the best enchiladas I've ever had. The corn tortilla that wrapped them was so fresh and they stuffed this with so much chicken. Both entrees came with rice and refried beans and both were excellent. The service was great all around and we never went more than a minute or two without chips and salsa or a refill. We even had multiple people try to take our order as they were that attentive. I did see some happy hour specials that were cheap so I will be back. Overall, a great spot for Mexican and it doesn't break the bank. I highly recommend! read more

I always pass La Campesina on my way to work. I looked it up, the reviews were good, so my best friend and I decided to try it out. The reviews were RIGHT. This is my new favorite restaurant. Everything was delicious. We got pupusas (cheese, and bean & cheese), vegetarian enchiladas and a chicken chimichanga. We were so full we weren't able to get dessert, but we plan to come back. Service was prompt and pleasant, the food was so good, and the price was good too. I want to drum up a lot of business for them--they deserve it. A great place if you're craving Tex-Mex! My friends and I came here for dinner and we were overwhelmed with the amount of variety on the menu. I wasn't in the mood to drink, but the happy hour menu looked like a good deal, especially since they offer it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as well. Started off with queso blanco and guacamole with chips, which were both delicious. The server also gave us a refill on chips. We got the fajitas meal with pork, steak, and shrimp for 3-4 people and it was FILLING! The quality of meats was really good. The pork was super tender and the steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Everyone got a side of rice, beans, extra guacamole, and tortillas. The menu says this set feeds four people, but i would say it feeds more like 4-5 people. Overall, the price and quality of food here was great!
