The chips and salsa are fresh, crunchy and salsa is spicy. My bf tried the steak ranchero they made it spicy and it was great. The handmade tortillas are amazing as well. Right off the bat this place was cozy and welcoming. My bf and I randomly came across it and decided to give it a try. It didn't exactly look like the "sit and order from the table" type of restaurant but it was and the staff was very attentive and nice occasionally checking in on us and making sure we have whatever we need without being overbearing. The chilaquiles were mid, not good but not bad. They just needed a little more flavor or spice? The meat was DELICIOUS and perfectly seasoned. We stopped by years ago for early dinner, and I personally was a little disappointed with the overall flavor. Menu was a bit different years ago, so we tried a few items including enchilada. Fast forward to few months back decided to give it another shot. Stopped by work lunch and tried something of their new smaller menu. Bistec Ranchero, basically a beef stewed with chiles/tomato sauce. Was really hoping to enjoy it, the manager/owner was super nice even explaining some of their best selling items. Food was fresh, waited average time about 15-20 min for my food which was not bad. End Result: Just ok. The meat they use is not good quality. It felt chewtly, not tender and soft. Maybe was not trimmed well or what not. Sauce was yummy and was cooked nicely, just kind of hard to get past the poor quality of the meat. I always support small business, especially local. I ordered chilaquiles rojos and my parents ordered huevos divorciados and enchiladas verdes. The portions were just right. Everyone of us was very happy with our meal. The rice and beans were tasty. When those 2 things aren't good, it's usually a bad sign. The same is true if the opposite. The flavors were on point. We were offered the capirotada for dessert. I thought it was like bread pudding. First time we were here was 6 years ago, and I'm sure we will continue to come here for many more years. You know that feeling when you go to your parents to and they cook for you. If you know you know. That is exactly how I feel when we come here. I used to come only for the pozole, but after 5 years I started to explore other options. I'm so happy I did! Today I had the huarache with carne asada and it was amazing, and just perfect. Their homemade salsa is still as good as the first time I had it. If you come here and notice that the salsa is a little warm it just means it was just made. Yes, that's how fresh it is. Everything they make is made to order, so yes you have to be patient. Best Restaurant in LA County! The food here is absolutely delicious and served in generous portions. The salsas were spicy, flavorful, and a perfect preview of the amazing dishes to come. My great friend Juan told me to check this place out. The restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza on Paramount blvd. The food is truly authentic, it's like you are going back in time, as your grandma made pozole or mole back in Mexico. I had some pollo in mole negro my friend had the Chile rellenos both were delicious and very fulfilling we also got home made tortillas. I hate giving bad reviews, but this is not the first time I give this place a shot. Menudo- lacked flavor and as other reviews stated, it was a small portion that contained huge bone chunks. I didn't finish this meal either as I was just disappointed in everything going wrong aside from flavor. Wet burrito- I didn't find this to be the type of sauce that you use on a wet burrito. It was very potent, oily, and lacked flavor, but the asada inside the burrito was actually okay. Anyhow, I didn't finish this meal either as I couldn't enjoy the taste. Chilaquiles - I paid extra for egg whites with my Chilaquiles, and to my surprise when I got home, there was NO EGG in my meal. Other than that, the Chilaquiles were okay. This place hands down has the best pozole! I placed my order for pick up and didn't realize they closed at 7, but they were really gracious and sweet with me coming in a little late. So that isn't in our average score. I got the GREEN POZOLE. I am very picky about my pozole, and I love it! It was a big enough bowl for me to take some home and have some for later. BUT ask for their green chili paste type of stuff. NOT the green salsa, it's like a mashed up hot sauce they could offer next to their personal hot sauce. Omg... so good. So I honestly rate mine a 5/5 My husband got the SHRIMP ENCHILADAS He would have preferred the shrimp inside the enchiladas and not outside of them. And he felt there wasn't much flavor. He would have rather had something else. He rated them 2.7/5 My daughter got the CHEESE ENCHILADAS with red sauce. She thought they were ok. She loved the rice and beans but was surprised when there were little squares of queso fresco type of cheese ..she wasn't expecting that (not sure if it said it on the menu... if so that was on her haha) She rates hers 3/5 We also got the CHICKEN FLAUTAS. (Comes with 3) Seemed like there was just lettuce on them. I wish I would have taken pictures of them. Not in a bad way and I hate sounding mean. BUT it would have been nice if they put the sauce on it first, put some cheese then lettuce with more sauce and cheese. But literally had one line of sauce on them on the edge. Not worth it at all! Outstanding mexican food, it tastes like everything is homemade and cooked at a ranch in mexico. The handmade corn tortillas crisped up on the stove with some butter are out of this world! The flavor of the bistec ranchero wrapped in fresh corn tortilla is so delicious i couldnt wait to get my next bite. The rice, beans & salsa are all excellent, a true sign of great mexican food. You can tell they use high quality ingredients, and prepare everything with an attention to detail. The pasole was very good as well. The meat from the asada plate tastes like it is prime beef and the cheese stuffed jalopeno is crazy good. The staff and owner are very nice & give excellent service. We got the mojite for two which was only $39 dollars and comes with hand made tortillas, steak, chicken, and shrimp, rice and beans! Wow so much food and the flavor is incredible! The salsa used with potatoes and meats. It has a citrus and spicy flavor that you could eat with a spoon. The cashier was so nice and answered every question! He even made recommendations based on their specialties. We wanted to try the churros but since it was so popular they ran out.
