Had lunch here with some friends yesterday after church. As we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted and told to sit wherever we'd like. We were then given some house made salsa and chips. My friends found this hole in the wall spot which specialized in menudo, so I had yet to try it. A side from the menudo I ordered the chicken flautas that also came with rice and beans. The food took a little while to come out, although the menudo was definitely a comfort food that also came with fresh tortillas. As the chicken flautas arrived, I could smell the aroma of the food and could tell it was made with love in the kitchen. The rice and beans, side of guacamole and sour cream, definitely hit the spot once the flautas were dipped. This place is a gem! Small hole in the wall spot with delicious and authentic Mexican food. Workers are super friendly and welcoming as well. I had the pozole and it tasted like my buddy's mom made it! On a weekday too, which is rare with most places offering pozole and menudo only on the weekends. They give you the full spread of fresh toppings like onions, cilantro, limes, cabbage, and radish to make the pozole how you like it. Wow! What a hidden gem we found. Took mom to Kaiser in Downey and she's been craving a soup so you know I had to Yelp it out for her lol. Called twice before making our decision and both times they were answered so nice, polite, and inviting. Seems like it's owned/ran by a elderly couple which I think is really sweet. Stopped by on a whim while I was in the area. I got the combo plate which was a hard shell chicken taco and a green chicken enchilada. It was sooo scrumptious ! Very flavorful and the chicken was shredded and juicy! Chips and salsa came complimentary to the table and let me tell you it was refreshing and tasty! I got a lemonade and it was perfect . It's definitely a hole in the wall spot but it's an older couple running the restaurant and the woman's smile melted my heart. The customer service was very poor! The lady was a bit rude. We told her it was our first time here and she never greeted nor welcomed us. Then she asked if we wanted to see the menu and we said yes. She came back and just threw them on the table. When our food came she just placed it on the edge of the table. The pozole only had two little pieces of meat. When I asked her if the Pozole doesn't come with meat she, said" that is the meat!" She never apologized, took my bowl and never came back with a new one. NEVER AGAIN COMING BACK HERE! I was surprised and did not expect the food here to be that great. Was in the area picking up products with my employees and decided to have lunch and I am so grateful that we walked into this establishment. Ordered the Menudo. One of my employees ordered the enchilada plate and another one ordered a taco plate. The food was great. Everything was fresh and hot, and I couldn't have been happier. The menu prices on Yelp are inaccurate so just know that you will pay a bit more. I've searched for a "good Mexican place in the area" and there are so many Mexican food choices around that the task seems easy but no! I'm happy to say that this place was pretty good. My wife and I were in town on a layover and looking for a few things we can't find at home. We've been living in Texas for over a year now and good Mexican food is hard to find. Tex-Mex is so different from what you can get here. We stopped at Don Chuy's, the cost of things here in LA are really noticeable when you've been away for awhile. So this review is a 4 star based price, and more for visitors in the area looking for authentic Mexican food. We ordered two Chile Verde burritos, for the price of $15.99 each. For the price you really get a huge burrito, and in my opinion one of these could easily feed two people. Menus that we see on Yelp have to be checked for dates posted. Anything pre-COVID has to be ignored, really anything more than a month old is not accurate. Back to the burrito, it was very tasty and had a lot of meat and sauce. No complaints about the taste of the food here. This is a mom and pop shop, I don't know how they stay in business because I'm sure the cost keeps at least a few people away.
