On a lovely Saturday evening, my boyfriend and I visited Japanese Castle. We arrived around 8:00 PM and only waited about 15 minutes. The interior design was well put together. I really appreciate restaurants that build an immersive experience beyond just the menu. The lighting was dim, which set a great mood, and the music selection was impressively diverse. Now for the food: I ordered the Baked Salmon Roll (4/5) and the Hot Pepper Chicken (3/5). I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce on the chicken and was hoping for a crispier texture, but the Miso Soup was absolutely delicious. Walked in and was advised to wait 20-30 minutes. We were given a choice to sit at the sushi bar as there was open seating. Even though we sat at the sushi bar the waitress comes ans takes your order. We ordered Spicy Edamam as an appetizer, the inside was cold so I decided to have a cup of Hot Tea, no real sugar here, only artificial packs, no good. Overall I enjoyed my visit to this Castle with some highlights which were the fine attentive service with a smile, the reasonable noise level and casual ambiance (with plenty of parking nearby), and in particular the excellent salmon collar and the pork cutlet. The sushi was a strange letdown, rather tasteless, and the rice did no one any favors. Salad was forgettable tho the orange slices excellent (this time of year). Still, this is a very reasonably priced experience with generous portions and I'd come back just for the salmon collar and to try some different dishes. read more

Teriyaki beef was good but came somewhat lukewarm. Miso soup was good but the tofu was meh. It tasted boiled separately and that one brand from ranch 99. I didnt have any seaweed but my partner had plenty. Bulgogi beef was meh as well. Over half of it was onions. I personally like the Christmas decor and it gives a great ambiance for Christmas. But the stuff that comes in it was just ehh. I tried the soup and it wasnt too bad. The udon was okay as well. Nothing special. I like the noodles. My boyfriend said the soup taste like water but I know the broth is suppose to be light like that. I really enjoyed the sushi! You can tell the quality is good. I'm always picky about my tuna sushi because most sushi places I've gone to, you can tell they serve it frozen this one tasted fresh, not frozen. The yellowtail and albacore was good too. Some places they taste chewy. And can't go wrong with salmon! The ambiance it cool. The music was poppin lol. You had your oldies, hip hop, pop. My review would have been 5 stars, but after we received our food the service sucked! Towards the end of the meal my boyfriend told me he told our waiter we were celebrating our anniversary (while I was in the restroom) and he wanted to surprise me. The waiter said he can bring out some mochi. Like I said after we received our food, we received no service whatsoever! Not even for drink refills or a "how are you doing?" "Can I get you anything?" We were checking out sushi restaurants in the area and passed on a C rated place to go to Japenese Castle instead and I'm not sure if the food would have been better at the first restaurant. Upon walking in I immediately noticed how sticky the floors were which was a little upsetting. When we were seated, I took a moment to check out the menu and all of the rolls were basically the same, mostly all baked rolls with shrimp tempura. We ordered 3 rolls and were given a california roll on the house, they were all pretty rough. They all had a cream cheese aftertaste and the texture was course/gritty. This probably isn't a bad spot for locals, but I cannot recommend coming here knowing that there are better spots within a 15 minute drive. read more

We also had the dragon roll, ring star roll. Came out very fresh and delicious. At the last minute we decided to add the red hot pepper chicken which has a decent soft crunch? If that makes sense to the breaded portion. The flavor has a slight kick but not over powering.
