I was referred to Dr. Vera to be evaluated for a tooth that had previously had a root canal and might need treatment again or possibly apicoectomy surgery. From the moment I arrived for my consultation, I was warmly greeted by Crystal and Cathy. I had a very traumatic experience at a previous dental office, so I was extremely nervous coming in. I had to visit Dr. Vera's office due to a cracked tooth that required a root canal at the recommendation of my dentist. I am glad that this recommendation worked out so well - my visit to Dr. Vera's office was very quick and I so appreciate their flexibility to schedule me on such short notice. First off, I have a healthy fear of dentists. I've been seeing too much of them since I was a little girl and was NOT looking forward to having a complicated root canal through a crown. My local Alameda dentist told me to travel down to Fremont for Dr. Vera and I'm so glad that I did. It was a two part root canal (revision I might add) and he got out the big drill to remove a large piece of metal from my root. He told me what to expect before he began, the assistant distracted me when I got the numbing injection and he actually charged me less than his initial estimate. I just had my root canal with Dr Vera today and let me just say, I'm SO thankful that my dentist recommended him. I will note that I'm petrified of dentists. I truly have a fear of dentists, so when I found out I needed to have a root canal, it's as if someone gave me the death sentence. But, Dr Vera was extremely empathetic and sympathetic of my situation. He reassured me a coupe times that pain will be managed and I should feel little to no pain at all. He also recommended that I be lightly sedated because of my anxiety. Even after my consultation with Dr, I didn't believe him 100%. I was sure that I was gonna feel some pain. But I also knew I had to get the procedure done, so I agreed and made an appt for the following week. The day of the appt (today), they started me by giving me 2 magical pills and in 30 min, i started to feel drowsy. Dr then started to numb my gums to and I barely felt the shots!! That's when I knew this was gonna be a smooth sailing. He started drilling, and that's the last thing I kinda remember. Next thing I knew, Dr said we were 90% done. I was shocked! The assistant even told me I fell asleep a couple times during the procedure. What the......and before I knew it, I was getting rolled out and going home! Thank you Dr Vera and team for treating me. Being so friendly, efficient, and gentle with me. I hope that I never have to have a root canal again, but if I do - I would go to Dr Vera in a heartbeat. read more

The root canal is required only when the cavity is near the nerves area in your tooth. Avoid it if you can. Incidentally I had one of the most challenging teeth done by Dr. Vera just a month ago. It was my first root canal experience. Dr. Vera was a seasoned DDS. He relies on his staff to do a lot of basic prep works before he conducts the procedure. The whole thing lasted about 2 hours including the numbing. He did not pay much attention to his patients as he chat w/ his assistant most of the time. That's probably because none of the patient could say anything with a gadget plug into their mouths. For me, the prolonged opening my mouth had strained and hurt the muscle of my jaw. It was not a pleasant experience. Another thing I didn't like as much was that I had to pay the full expenses up front despite that they accept Principle insurance. You need to make sure to follow up w/ the front desk receptionist for that. In my case, insurance did not receive it until I checked it 3 weeks later. Later on I found out the insurance actually rejected part of the billing(which I don't know what), and reimburse the remaining 90% for the within network services. Make the long story short, I paid ~$450 out of my pocket for this procedure. I wouldn't think it's a pleasant experience at all. read more

Bad experience! Scheduled for a consultation a week ahead of time. I was very displeased with what the experience I had with this office. I was referred to this office by my dentist for a root canal. I scheduled an appointment through phone and asked them to call back if my insurance went through as well as letting me know of the necessary things i needed to bring in for my appointment. I also requested to receive an email for the proper address and a call back for co-payment etc. to my surprise, I never received a call back until the day prior to my appointment. Unfortunately, I was at work and missed the call but they left me a voicemail letting me know I had a confirmed appointment and there was a cancellation fee. Sigh! Went in for my scheduled appointment 15 minutes prior to my appointment and upon checkin in, I asked the receptionist about pricing and some other details regarding what was being done. She asked for my info before answer and requested to wait as she had to look up my info. As I waited, the receptionist told me to wait as I filled out some paperwork. I returned the paper work within 5 minutes and asked the receptionist if she had answers to my questions. She asked me for a co-payment, which to my surprise was over $50. I was surprised because I wasn't told ahead of time, but I gave her my card and requested for more info - She told me the dentist would answer all my questions as this was just a consultation and they also hadn't received my x-rays from my dentist so there wasn't much to be done. I called my dentist immediately and turns out my files were transferred over. Apparently the receptionist at this office "accidentally oversaw my record" ....?? I was already frustrated but because I had left work for this appointment, I decided to wait to see the dentist as I was in a lot of pain. Here is how my wait went through: Appointment time: 2pm Arrival: 1:50pm Consulted me at 2:50pm Why wasn't the appointment scheduled for 2:45 instead of 2pm if they were not going to take me in at 2? Outrageous! WAITED FOR 1 HOUR. I walked up when the receptionist said 2 more minutes and told her I wanted my money back and I want my files to be deleted from their record. She didn't even apologize nor question my reason and instead simply said "ok" Not a very pleasant service. They will frustrate you and waste your time. I would not recommend it to yelpers. It's been a while since I wrote a review on Yelp, but I was a little displeased with what little experience I had with this office. I was referred to this office by my dentist for a root canal. The price I was quoted didn't include the cost of the crown, so I know I would've walked out with a surprise estimate significantly higher than my actual quote. When I asked the price, my dentist (not necessarily THAT person, a representative from the dentist's office) told me I should contact Dr. Vera's office and someone could help me from there. I contacted Dr. Vera's office, and had an unpleasant experience with the receptionist (or whomever answered the phone). After having to spell my name in ABC lingo like I was spelling for a kindergartner, I booked an appointment. I later called back and asked what the cost for the crown would be, and she told me to ask whomever at my dentist. When I told her to go ahead and cancel the appointment, she confirmed my first name, and as soon as I said "yes" she blatantly hung up on me. I was a little sketchy by her attitude at first anyways, so I'm glad I called back a second time to cancel even if I got hung up on. I'd rather pay a higher cost for better customer service. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS DENTIST HAS 5 STARS!!! STAY AWAY! I was referred by my dentist to Dr. Vera for a root canal. Got an appointment and found out they are out of my insurance network. I called their office to get an estimate of charges for a root canal. I was surprised to know that the office was unable to give me even a rough estimate. They refused to give me an estimate until I signed a financial responsibility on the day of the procedure. Other dentists were willing to give me an accurate estimate of costs while this practice wanted me to sign on a legal/financial agreement and pay upfront out of pocket, without knowing what I was getting into when I was already in a vulnerable situation. When I called my regular dentist, they were surprised to know that this was the business practice followed by Dr. Vera's office. This feels like a scam. I felt like I was made to enter into a blind alley without knowing what I was getting into. read more

After months of intermittent tooth pain after having crowns done, it eventually turned into extreme sharp throbbing pain with no escape! I was advised I needed Root Canal Therapy on the tooth with the new crown on it! I knew immediately I wanted a specialist to do this job because I've heard all the horror stories about Root Canals... I called Dr. Vera's office for an appointment. Although they had a full schedule, Dr. Vera's staff was able to find a spot for me to do emergency treatment to get me out of pain the same day! When I went in for my appointment, the office staff was nice and made me feel they understand the pain I was experiencing which helped me through this process. Dr. Vera himself was a very nice down to earth man who is extremely professional. He asked questions and did several test to confirm which tooth was causing the problem. I'm so glad he did his own test because the tooth we thought was the problem was ok. It was the tooth next to it that needed a Root Canal! Both teeth had new crowns on them so it was tough to diagnos. I'm so glad I saw a specialist! Before the doctor started his treatment, he advised me there is a possibility the crown on the tooth may shatter while drilling through it to access the nerve. I was really nervous about that however that didn't happen! A new crown alone would have cost $1800.00... Again, I'm glad I saw a specialist! I haven't felt pain in that tooth again after that appointment. I went back for one more visit to finish the Root Canal. Dr. Vera and his a assistant are a great team. They both made me feel relaxed in their care... yes even while they performed Root Canal Therapy on my tooth! Two weeks ago, I had reached a level of pain of which I had NEVER experienced before. I went to my dentist who informed me I needed a root canal. I was really worried and uncomfortable. I explained my issue to Dr. Vera and was told to come in right away. Which was a great relief! Can not explain how uncomfortable I was. For weeks I had not eaten as it was just too difficult to bite down. Both concern and compassion were shown by Dr. Vera and the rest of the staff on the phone and when I arrived. I was quickly shown into an office, x-rays were taken, and Dr. Vera came to immediately fix my tooth. Within very little time, my pain was gone and I felt human again! His staff was wonderful and caring. They followed up personally calling me to make sure I was doing well after each visit. I felt very taken care of and in great hands. My dentist referred me to Dr. Vera for a root canal before getting a crown. I have a low tolerance to pain and my dentist made a note of that in my referral. With all the horror stories I have heard about getting a root canal, the pain that is already in my mind even before the procedure started seems to grow into a giant ball of pain. First visit was for a consultation ~ Dr. Vera checked my teeth and explained what needs to be done. Second visit ~ root canal procedure started. The number of visit depends on the severity of your case or the complexity of your root. Third visit ~ continuation of the root canal procedure. All my wild imagination about root canal was wiped away by Dr. Vera. I even told my family and friends that if this is how root canals are done, why do other people tell those horror stories about it. My answer to my own question ~ not all endodontist are the same. I was lucky to find one of the best. You can see for yourself if you need a root canal. You'll know what I mean. Dr. Vera ~ very steady hand, very good bedside manner, explains clearly every step of the procedure that he will do, he is doing, and has done, state of the art equipments. I was referred to Dr. Vera by my dentist for a root canal. When I called, I was informed that the procedure couldn't be performed for at least a week, but I could come in for a consultation the next day. Considering the amount of pain I was in due to an abscess, I figured I should just go for the consult to see what I was looking at. Dr. Vera and his assistant (Stella) have wonderful bedside manner. They were both very kind and respectful. Dr. Vera *very clearly* explained my options to me and, due to the severity of my infection, said he'd be willing to due the procedure the same day. Also due to the fact that the procedure was a little messier than usual, it would cost a bit more. It was still fair, and I was in a lot of pain, so I said "bring it on." Two 30 minute sessions later, root out, Tony happier. At the end of the second session, I mentioned that I had pain in another section of my mouth. Stella x-rayed me and said it was for sure another root canal. After she and Dr. Vera explained what it's supposed to look like, versus what it did look like, it made perfect sense to me. I came back a while later and had it done. I waited a little while and the sensitivity didn't go away, so I went back. Turns out, the tooth right next to it (but further back) was actually the culprit. Though we did the last two root canals out of order, it was clear that they both needed to be done. He did a great job and was really awesome all-in-all. Clearly, I kept coming back, and it was worth it. Being me, I of course had to joke that I kept returning because "I must be a fan of torture." Word of advice: I don't think people in dental surgery find that amusing. TL;DR: - Sheila, the office manager is awesome. She'll work with you to get you in as soon as possible, and write you a note if you have a dumb boss who doesn't recognize droopy novocaine face. - Stella, Dr. Vera's assistant, is very laid back and funny, and tells some amusing anecdotes while you're in the chair. - Dr. Vera is incredibly professional. He very clearly and succinctly explains all of your options, gives you the most information so you can make a good decision on your treatment, and executes said treatment thoroughly with a steady hand (and a cool microscope). I'm a first time patient, and what a incredible experience it was to have a root canal with Antonio Vera DDS skills. He and his assistant, Stella, were in sync during the whole procedure making me really comfortable and at ease. I was very much impressed by the tools, technique and the really amazing modern dental practice he has established. While in the chair Dr. Vera shared with me some technical details about the procedure and what is best for me, and honestly it was almost a pain free experience. I was in the worst pain I have ever experienced this week. After evaluating my situation, he recommended that I see an oral surgeon. When I wasn't able to see the surgeon, and he was notified by my general dentist that the pain medication I was given was not working, Dr. Vera offered to give different medication and was able to see me the next morning at 8am to perform a root canal to alleviate the pain. The next day after I had my surgical procedure, he remained in constant communication to see how everything went and to ensure I was doing well.
