Living in the city it was nice to make a mini trek to the pool for something different. I've been known to swing by when home for visits as well. It wasn't nearly as crowded as I expected it to be-there was lots of space to spread out. I was also impressed with how clean everything was. The snack bar had lots of tasty and affordable options.

Instead, Settlers Cabin Park is one of the spots I frequent these days - for exercise, for a literal change in scenery, and to unplug from the current day-to-day of working at home. I want to mention early that part of the beauty of this 1,600+ acre county park is that it was once the site of various coal mines - this gorgeous space has been restored to what you see when you visit it now. Knowing that adds another level of appreciation, at least for me! After its history, the second biggest reason I love Settlers Cabin Park is the number of trails available to use. If you check out their website and maps, you can see an overview of the five or six total trails here. Some of them are on the shorter side, others are longer, and a lot of them directly interconnect at different points. That makes it easy to explore more than one trail in a single visit - one day I started out on the green trail, somehow went far enough to get to the purple trail, and finished the loop back to my car on the blue trail. (I promise, that will make more sense after looking at a map!) There are other things here besides the trails - tennis courts, field hockey, playgrounds, pavilions, wave pools, etc. Interestingly, Settlers Cabin Park is technically also home to the Pittsburgh Botanical Garden, which is another outdoor spot I adore. For the trails alone, I consider Settlers Cabin Park to be my perfect escape these days. I can hike anywhere from 1.5 to 6 miles, at any pace that I want. Bonus points - as long as I don't mind the hilly climbs involved, I can take some time to enjoy the sight and sound of the park's baby waterfall. (Some articles call it a mini waterfall, but given how small it is, I call it a baby!) Any time I spend here is always time well spent, and I'm sure I'll be back again soon.

And honestly, you can't talk about Settlers Cabin without mentioning the picnic groves. I swear, half of my summer weekends over the decades have been spent at a cookout, grad party, or other gatherings with friends at one of those pavilions, eating hot dogs and hamburgers. When my daughter was little I brought her there through her teenage years with her friends. Always a good spot to spend a hot summer day in Pittsburgh.

I've never been there where we needed all that space (I can't imagine how long that wait would be). the entrance has automatic gates that open and close when the train is ready to be boarded. You put your belongings in the holder on the exit side and then get in the car. There are two restraint systems. One small standard seatbelt and one lap bar. The seats themselves are on the smaller side, but will still fit plus size riders. The ride itself is exhilarating. The climb up the first hill gives you great views of the park and area (I liked seeing the giraffe's head poking out of Noah's Ark). MAKE SURE TO NOT PULL OUT YOUR PHONE ON THE LIFT HILL. They are very clear and very serious about the rules and yet people still break them every day which makes the train stop on the lift hill. The one down side is that the exit is at a completely different area than the entrance, so make sure you know that if you are meeting non riders. A must ride if you love coasters.

As a Yelp Elite All Star I noticed that the most current YELP review for this pool was a one star review based solely on what this person thought the price should be for entry for her & her kids & her comparison to North Park Pool. First off Cranberry Township Waterpark, offers more than just a pool. It has a very large kids area with large kiddie pool, water dump bucket, splash pad & preschool water sliding board. It has a dedicated lap swim lane at all times. It has a waterside, low diving board, water tunnel sliding board, water climbing wall, sand volleyball court, grassy play areas, concession stand with large variety of foods, drinks & desserts & bathrooms with showers & changing rooms. There are giant umbrellas for shade, and many lounge & some Adirondack chairs. You can get water wings, or life vests for your kids there if needed. This is not a county pool like North Park Pool. NPP is run by the county. Cranberry is run by the township (not Butler County) & managed & staffed by high school kids. YES, the prices ARE higher than Allegheny County & City pools: 2025 Daily Admission Rates Residents: $11 Non-Resident: $16 Children: 2 - 12 years old Resident:$10 Non-Resident: $14 Children under 2: FREE 55+ Senior Resident: $10 Non-Resident: $14 Twilight Rates (after 6 p.m.) Resident: $8 Non-Resident: $10 Tuesday Night Swims: 9-11 p.m. Members: FREE Non-Members: $8 But that gives ZERO reason to diss this beautiful waterpark & all it has to offer. I stopped by after a walk in Carnegie Park, literally next door, for a snack. Their speciality is homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches. I split the s'mores with my hubby and was surprised when they offered to cut the sandwich in half... what a nice service. There are a couple of tables to the right of the snack stand. Highly recommend this indulgent summer treat!

A fixture in the Carnegie landscape. They're always busy (great thing) and service is always super helpful and friendly.

It is huge and accommodates many activities and games within its parameters without bothering anyone. There are nice areas for the toddlers, pre-teen and exciting slides and games for the older kids and adults. The table area outside of the restaurant is very nice for a family or a couple to sit and eat or just have good ole conversation. It can also be a great place to take a reprieve from the sun. As a whole I have found most people to be very friendly and helpful. In matter of fact, I am disabled and have problems walking a distance with my cane.....sometimes parking can be really far away and I have found myself in past years just turning around and leaving. But......this year the owner saw me hobbling down the hill and stopped in his golf cart and told me to call anytime for him or someone to come and pick me up if I find myself in that situation again. I am sure that in the future I will take him up on his helpful offer so I can enjoy the fun within the gates of Pine Cove Swim Club. There are great pavilions to use for parties and get togethers and Pine Cove also offers extra activities on certain days for adults and children. I only have one negative thing to say about the grassy area where you place your blanket or chair - most of the area is on a steeper slope and finding a comfortable way to sit on your towel without toppling down the hill is a challenge. This also makes it hard to sit in a chair without sliding down, Minor excavation could help that. To solve this I try to get there early to get a lounge on the flat cement area by the pool, but these are few and hard to get. Another plus is being able to take your chair or inner tube and keeping it on the fence at the pool so you do not have to carry it back and forth all season. My opinion is I will be buying a pass to Pine Cove until I can not walk to get inside.....then I may come in a wheel chair. LOL. Isabelle S.
