I just recently joined Flourish Vitality and attended my first class this week. This is my first…read moreexperience with yoga and I was very anxious to start due to my limited experience ( Counterintuitive since Yoga is suppose to be relaxing). When I walked through the doors I was greeted by Joanne (the owner). She immediately made me feel very comfortable. The energy flow class was the only one available that evening and I was warned that this is not a beginners class. During the class, Joanne was an amazing instructor, making it easy for anyone to follow even if you're a beginner. She came over to give me some quick pointers without interrupting the class, which really helped me adjust to the proper positions. I will definitely return to take a beginners class, just to get the poses nailed down, but I am really excited to try all the other classes. There is a wide variety of different yoga classes and what I love the most is the flexibility with the scheduling. I highly recommend this yoga studio for beginners as well as advanced yogis. I am relatively new to the Collingwood area and after not being motivated enough to kick my own…read morebutt, I decided to give CrossFit a try. I was incredibly nervous when I started, as I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing! I was also incredibly intimidated, being the girly girl that I am. After a few short one on one sessions with Steph, the head coach, I was on my way. She taught me the basics and made me feel at ease. She and Stouty (another awesome coach) also kept an eye on me during those first few weeks and helped me through movements that I wasn't quite getting. I was also pleasantly surprised to see people of all ages, shapes and sizes. I always thought CrossFit would be a bunch of ripped people carrying around their protein shakes and flexing their muscles at each other, but it was nothing like that. (This is why breaking down stereotypes is so important). What REALLY impressed me is how they adapted to the situation that Covid-19 caused. I started CrossFit just a few weeks before the gym had to be closed down. I was disappointed because I had just gotten started! Well, within a week these guys got Zoom classes up and running. I felt nervous again because it was unfamiliar and I didn't know if I could adapt with random equipment and objects around the house. They thought of EVERYTHING! Their focus on our form and execution was just as good, if not better, than when we were in the gym. Also, whenever I had any technical difficulties (and I had quite a few), Jen was on point to help me within seconds of me reaching out to her. I like to call her "The Problem Solver". Finally, the team at Indestri is incredibly adaptive to each person's individual needs. I had a roller skating wipe out that left me with a bum knee for 4 weeks and I thought that I would have to take a break from CrossFit. Nope. Stouty, Neal and Steph modified workouts each day to accommodate me, just like they do with many others with other varying injures. I'd highly recommend Indestri to a newbie like myself or a seasoned athlete who is looking to be challenged. Regardless of who you are, you will be welcomed into the inclusive family and be challenged to be your personal best.
