If I could give zero stars, I would -- a million times over! It's very rare that I take the time to write a review, but as a responsible parent and citizen, I feel I have a duty to share the horrific experience I just had at APDerm. This was my second visit to the office for my daughter's scalp psoriasis. The first time (in March), we saw Dr. Brandow Rowe -- he was professional, though not particularly warm, and unfortunately his treatment didn't work. Wanting a second opinion, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Peter Muz. I was surprised I could get an appointment within three days -- now I understand why. Please, avoid him at all costs. Dr. Muz began showing me pictures of patients whose conditions had supposedly improved after just one injection of a medication. When I asked what the medication was, he refused to tell me, saying, "You don't need to know the name -- it's just efficient enough." I insisted on knowing what he planned to inject into my daughter's scalp so I could research it first. He responded aggressively, saying there were no side effects because it wouldn't be given intravenously. When I firmly asked him to write down the name, he scribbled something illegibly on a sticky note and said dismissively, "Alright, make your research, I'll come back." As a patient, I know it is my right to be fully informed before any treatment. His reaction was unprofessional and completely unacceptable. He then left the room abruptly, nearly slamming the door, after roughly handling my daughter's head while examining her scalp -- wearing a glove on only one hand. Even my daughter noticed, asking the nurse (who was kind and polite) if the doctor was always like that or just in a bad mood. The nurse quietly replied, "Unfortunately, that's just how he always behaves." When I got home, I researched the medication -- triamcinolone acetonide injection -- and found numerous possible side effects: nausea, vomiting, rash, glaucoma, allergic reactions, and more. I understand that all medications carry risks, but as a parent, I have the absolute right to know what's being administered to my child and to make an informed decision. If Dr. Peter Muz dares to bill my insurance for this appalling consultation, I will absolutely dispute it and report him to the medical board. read more

I was a loyal patient of APDerm's Dr. Abby Hochberg, who found a tiny patch of skin cancer in the corner of my eye. Her sharp eyes probably saved my eyelid. BUT even though I schedule my next annual skin check a year ahead, it's almost invariably canceled and rescheduled. This year (2025), my Sept appt got moved to August then moved again from the Concord office to Marlborough, 30 minutes away. When I said no, I was told that the next available appts with Hochberg in Concord were in March or December 2026! I told them I was done. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Stitt for several years for preventative dermatology exams. My experiences with her care have been very good but unfortunately, she is associated with this practice. I would continue to see her if she was not with APDerm. I had a mole removed a while ago and the individual who performed the work (different location from my visit with Dr. Stitt) hacked away at me while discussing with the attending nurse her hours (basically conducted herself as though I wasn't even laying on the table while she performed the procedure). I still have a massive scar that was not necessary to remove the mole. I have had several moles removed over the years by my previous dermatologist (who has retired) and never had an experience or result like this. In addition to that terrible experience, their billing practices are shady at best (wrong codes to providers for services performed and misleading quotes for services). I will be reporting them to ALL the organizations as I have in good faith tried to get these billing issues reconciled directly with APDerm. read more

As someone who formerly worked here as an Appointment Scheduler, this place is a sweatshop. There are 4-5 of us working while answering roughly 400-500 calls every day. You can imagine how that works out logistically. Even on less busy days we usually have at least 3 people waiting in the call queue. We get one unpaid 30 min break and one paid 15 min break in an 8.5 hr shift. The rest of the time, we are answering phone calls nonstop. The call center is horribly managed and my "manager" was a clueless slacker who didn't even train me how to do my job. "Training" took place over roughly 3 days and involved me listening in on my coworkers as they worked (I barely had time to ask questions in between the virtually endless flood of phone calls). The work is very stressful and tedious although helping patients can be rewarding. As a call center worker, you get no credit for going "above and beyond" for patients, but you are inevitably blamed when things go wrong. The appointment scheduling system is a horrible mess with plenty of technical problems, so it's no wonder patient information gets lost all the time. Overall, working here was a soul draining experience and it affected my mental health very negatively. If you are a patient seeking care, I recommend you find another dermatology practice. While there may be some decent providers working under the AP Derm brand, this company does not care about their own workers and they don't care about you. read more

I have always had a good experience at APDerm. My most recent appointment was no different. I met with a Nurse Practitioner who offers cosmetic consultations. She was extremely patient and thorough. I've been a patient of Dr Yang's and at each appointment she seems to be adamant about pushing a treatment I have not wanted to pursue due to the side affects. At my most recent appointment she spent less than 10 minutes with me, Her only objective seemed to be pushing this same treatment that I was not interested in, once my intentions were clear on this she promptly left. I had a couple of other issues I wanted to speak to her about, as well as other alternative treatments, but she made her exit before I could mention any of them to her. read more

Very scammy vibe here - we were given a weeks-long runaround on a prior authorization submission to insurance for our daughter's prescription. It turns out that APDerm outsourced the PA work to a third party pharmacy called Apotheco in Newton, and had given this third party access to my daughter's medical records in the process. Is this compliant with HIPPA regulations?! Apotheco was very eager for us to simply buy the medication out of pocket vs going through insurance, which also feels shady. Avoid this place. read more

If you ever manage to get an appointment some of the the doctor's are ok. Not great. Only ok. One even recommended my son get a procedure that they don't do - nor know anywhere that can do it. Another berated us for missing an appointment that they didn't tell us they had made because they left the message on a number not associated with us at all. We were then given an appointment at 8am which when we show up was actually at a different off over 45 minutes away from our regular office - but they never mentioned that when giving us the appointment. However worse of all - good luck getting through on the phone. Good luck ever speaking to anyone. Good luck ever getting them to update your phone number so they don't leave you messages asking you call back for medical information. I had thought waiting 20 minutes on hold was bad previously but today I am on my fifth call - waiting over 9 minutes each time - only to be hung up on each time after someone picks up. After an hour of trying to get through it turns out someone made a mistake in booking the next appointment - and it's our fault. Looking for a new dermatology office now. My daughter was seen in the Marlborough office on June 21, 2021. It is now June 29, 2021 and we are still waiting on a call back regarding an alternative prescription as the medicine prescribed is not covered by my insurance company. I was billed for what insurance had already paid out. AP Derm quickly referred that mistaken balance to a collections agency. AP Derm's billing department admitted their error but it took many months and repeated calls to get the refund which was promised each time I called. Looks like a reputable practice but best to avoid this place. read more

I've never left a yelp review, but I've never felt so scammed as with this place. I WISH I had read the reviews of this place before my visit. I'm a college student in Boston only for a year, and right as school began, I had a severe cystic acne outbreak. I went to AP Derm for routine injections and paid out of pocket. Easy. I had to return a month later for another, paid out of pocket, and again. Zero problems, a total breeze. That was until 4 months later when I began to see bills for an overdue balance of $300. How could this be? I paid upfront both times. After speaking with billing, I was told I was charged $300 for asking a question on my first visit. Mind you, both visits and procedures were IDENTICAL, but was charged a random "office visit" for only the first, for again... asking a question (which i obviously can't remember). I explicitly asked multiple times what the costs would be (as I'd be paying out of pocket) and this was never mentioned. There's two issues at play here: 1. lack of transparency in billing, even when explicitly asked mulitple times. 2. An incongruously overpriced office charge, sneakily sent MONTHS after my visit, and somehow not consistently applied (remember I went twice). I go to a top dermatologist in NYC and her office visit fee is $250. Business is business and I don't mind paying for value. This is purely about ethics, and I cannot endorse this practice. I was lucky enough to have grabbed a New Patient appointment with Dr Hochberg at AP Derm when she was listed on the app ZocDoc (she's not anymore). I had been a patient at a few of their other locations, but never had a satisfactory relationship with any of the doctors in their practice until now. I have never met a more thorough doctor. I'm convinced she's a genius. I never have to remind her about my issues, I KNOW she won't let me leave without a solution, she has a wonderful personality, her nurses are great, she also does Botox (!!!!), is insanely intelligent, and a gem of a dermatologist. If you have the chance to become a patient of Dr Hochberg, don't pass it up! She's committed to helping her patients skin (and self-worth). read more

Went for a consult and possible procedure in Watertown. I gave them my Insurance info and my health history. I was told that the Dr I was to see does the procedure that I required. on the phone. When he came in he was cheery and nice until he told me he doesn't do the procedure. He suggested I call the Franklin office. Called the Franklin office and same. Once I tell them that My insurance covers this 100% as I have a rider, the Dr does not do the procedure. They suggested I call another office and the same happened. Everything is ok until I mention the insurance. So I never was able to get an appointment for the procedure. I called my insurance provider and they told me that absolutely they will cover the procedure 100%. I spoke to someone in the main office and she was appalled. She works for the dermatology company. I am now talking to the and filing with HHS and the Attorney General's office. This is a terrible practice to do this to people. I would not waste my time going to this practice. read more

Dr. Katalin Kovalszki: don't bother explaining the cost of a procedure to the patient, don't feel obliged to provide the full service that you later invoice for, and invoice the insurance an amount that projects to an hourly rate of $23,500. In March I visited Dr. Kovalszki (Adult & Pediatric Dermatology) for removal of a "premalignant lesion". During this visit, I suggested to remove also a "benign lesion on my eye lid". Both were frozen off in one go. The doctor had briefly hinted that the benign lesion would be billed separately. Unfortunately, I didn't ask how much it would cost. I assume that she would not have told me, because later she indicated that she generally cannot tell be how much her service costs, and I would need to ask my health insurance. For that doctor's visit I had to pay the total of about $450, out of which the 10-second duration removal of the benign lesion costed me $250 (Initial cost $393, and down-adjusted by my insurance to $250). Considering that the discussion and execution of the benign lesion treatment took 1 minute, the $393 represents an hourly rate of $23,500. And considering the money that I ended up paying, the hourly rate is still $15,000. I had a number of calls with the billing department and some other people, and we finally agreed that I would come back to have other benign lesions (keratoses) removed that occasionally inflame. After all, the invoiced 250 was for up to 14 of those. Given that the doctor did a skin check on my body, why didn't she offer the full service that she later invoiced for, by removing the other problematic lesions during the first visit? During the subsequent visit, she removed two others - as part of the invoiced service. There she told me to not come back because she won't treat me again. The reason she gave was that my email to her was in her view 'inappropriate'. Why? She claimed I was threatening to sue her. In fact, I wrote that I would consult my lawyer if we don't find a solution that gives me halfway my money's worth. As I explained her, a consultation with a lawyer does not imply walk to court. It is a consultation to understand the facts of the matter, because I didn't get a proper explanation for the invoice and why the work was not completed during the initial visit. One thing I learned: I will avoid ever accepting again a treatment whose costs are not explained. And I will start comparing doctors' prices. Today, I found one in the neighbor town does the benign lesions (CPT 17110) for $109, which is almost 60% less! And I surely won't see this doctor again. After initially hearing back from a staff member, Tiffany N, from APD, who feigned sincere concern, but was unable to locate my records, I replied with the necessary information to review my records, however, I didn't receive a reply, only silence. I Yelped about a Sculptra application recommended by Dr. Goos that hardened into multiple large cement nodules around my eyes and remained clearly evident for over a year. I was never forewarned about this possibility, only the promise that this would improve my appearance. This procedure was a perfect example of a beauty treatment gone seriously wrong at a cost of $500. Dr. Goos should have known that Sculptra was never intended to be used around the eyes. When I went in to show Dr. Goos the damage he caused, he basically threw up his hands and said the best he could do was to excise them, while acknowledging such interventions would leave scars and no refund! I continue to anticipate hearing from Dr. Goos' office - probably foolishly. Be forewarned, that Dr. Goos should not be licensed to practice dermatology. read more

The office put me on accutane, but they will drain you for every cent they can get from you. I asked about a bump I had, they told me to see another doctor, and billed me for an extra $100 for a "long" visit. When I called billing, the lady was extremely rude and condescending in her explanation that I ended up saying never mind, thank you, and hanging up. I will be here for the remaining course of my medication, but apparently from reviews they have terrible office culture around. In addition to paying +$300 every visit. Also, they set appointments for 7:30 AM then tell you to get lab work, but the building lab doesn't open till 8:30 AM. read more

I recently went to see a doctor at their Concord office for cystic acne. The visit itself was frustrating, with the doctor pushing Accutane/spironolactone and dismissing other potential solutions. My entire visit with her took about 10 minutes, and I left without any idea of how to proceed if I wasn't willing to take oral medication. A week later, I check my billing statement and find that they billed 551$ for an initial visit, which is insane given that on average, dermatology initial visits in MA are 150-200$. I won't be returning to APDerm and recommend that others looking for acne care go elsewhere. read more

If you couldn't tell from the countless of other reviews, this company is awful. I do not say that lightly. In fact, I would go as far as saying this is the worst medical agency/company/office that I have ever dealt with. I had an initial appointment with a woman right near me. The office was a disaster and they charged me for a long visit because the doctor was running around helping other patients. (I didn't dispute the charge because my insurance covered me.) Then, APDerm called and said that they were cancelling my next visit. The individual on the phone could not confirm if the office would be opening back up or closing (?). I make another appointment to the nearest office about 40 minutes from my house. The office was much better but it was apparent the the doctor wanted me out as soon as possible. APDerm billed my appointment incorrectly so I had to call my insurance to get it fixed. My next appointment was via telehealth. I never received a link for my appointment so had to call back two separate times to get it figured out. If you're wondering why calling twice was annoying, try calling any call center and you'll have a similar experience! I call back after my telehealth visit to make another appointment because there is no way to call the office directly (what kind business practice is that?). I get transferred at least five separate times because each department can only answer certain questions. The next day I go to the pharmacy to get my medication and the doctor called it in wrong! I call APDerm, wait on hold for ten minutes, someone picks up and hangs up so I have to call again. The clinical team does not care at all about your problems. One representative promised me a call back once she heard back from the doctor (I even confirmed with her how they would be calling back) and low and behold, no call back! Now, the pharmacy said that they cannot fix my medication and I will have to wait two weeks. I don't know how you can run a business so poorly. read more

I haven't had an appointment yet, yet they have already wasted hours of my time, and almost nothing has worked. I wanted an appointment, and had a referral from my PCP, so I gave APDerm a call. Their system asked me if I wanted to make an appointment, and when I answered yes, it told me to make an appointment on-line. OK, fine, so I went to their web site, and proceeded to fill out the forms. About the second question asked me to explain why I needed an appointment, a question I answered in a couple of sentences. My entry was rejected, however, apparently because "only standard English characters are permitted." That is the message I got, in red. I was left with the question "which of the characters I used was not standard?" I used ONLY the letters of the alphabet (standard), and commas! Therefore, I was stuck at the second question. So I called APDerm back, hit "O" for operator, which put me in a queue to speak to somebody. HOWever, the queue was 5 people long, so the system offered me a call-back, which I accepted. I left a message with my name and phone number, and a brief description of what I wanted, an appointment, and why I wanted it. Then I waited. I expected to be called when my number, i.e. my position in queue rose to the top. I waited 2 hours, without receiving a call, so I called back, only to get a message that they were closed! They had promised me a call, presumably as soon as the people ahead of me were finished, instead, I got blown off! They left me hanging for over 2 hours, on the promise of a call-back, and then they just left me hanging. Then, they finally called me back first thing in the morning, when I was sleeping! All in all, an entirely inauspicious start! I will attend my appointment, because I have a need, but I do not have high expectations. read more

If I could give a zero star I would. Every interaction with this office (Westford) was horrible. The doc (Katalin Kovalszki) was visibly angry when I asked about the cost of the procedure as if I was wasting her valuable time. But the real fun began after I paid my bill, and I found out that they believed that I hadn't paid for an office visit over 10 years ago. They applied my current payment towards the old bill (which I dispute ever happened) and put me into collections. Wonderful treatment of a patient. read more

My children, husband and I have all had very good experiences, high level treatment, professional service and consultations. I believe they price fairly and are within market ranges. This place is a complete joke. We saw two different doctors who immediately recommended Accutane within the first 5 minutes of seeing my son for cystic acne. The second physician, Dr. Connelly didn't even look at my son's skin to see how it had progressed. His words were "that's the beauty of being a good dermatologist, you don't need to look at it to know." Wow. Just wow. My son has anxiety and depression yet they continued to push Accutane and brushed off my concerns. Now I see why - in other complaints Accutane allows them to bill the crap out of people for follow up services. The only thing that we hadn't tried is Differin, so we bought some and low and behold it cleared up his severe acne! I got billed nearly 300 hundred dollars for this condescending a.. to not look at my son's skin. I have tried to nicely lodge complaints but have been given the run around several times. If you call the direct number to Westford it goes straight to a main call center where they have no clue what to do. When I do get transferred to Westford, no one knows at all what is going on and I have to repeat the story over and over. Office "manager" or whatever she is - Sarah- never calls back. The appointment made for consult with possibility of treatment, was scheduled only for consult, so when the staff miscommunicated arrival times, Cecilia at this office decided to take one for the team and insult me in front of all her staff, after having me wait for 30 minutes. Went to their office in Concord NH to see Dr Sands about a couple little marks I was concerned about. He was a nice guy and his assistant was fantastic! We sent a couple samples to be checked and he was going to call in a couple days with the results which he did. One of the issues required another appointment so we made one. A couple days later the scheduler called and wanted move up the appt after I had already moved around my work schedule to do this. She then called again a few days later, apparently Dr Sands couple keep the appointment so she moved me to another doctor a couple days later which now forced me to take off another day. By now I'm getting a little annoyed with how they do business. Next issue, I get the statement for the appointment emailed. I thought what they charged was a bit high but I paid it. The had do e a good job after all. Then a week or so later I get another bill for even more more money, FOR THE SAME APPT! So for a 25 minute appointment they billed my insurance $2300 of which I was responsible for $930! And I have good insurance. I called their billing Dept and this girl answers, I can barely hear her it sounded like I was on speaker but turns out it was her headset. She gave me the run around on the 2nd bill plus I couldn't understand a word she said. You'd think with what they charge patients they could afford a decent phone. These people charge way too much and I will never go there again. I'll go to another dermatologist to take care of it. I would suggest you do the same!! read more

My immediate family includes Harvard trained physicians. I'm NOT impressed at all by Adult and Pediatric Dermatology. I sat in the waiting room for 30+ minutes, full waiting room, and standing room only. There was no music, no audible TV to entertain. They luckily had a water cooler because it was so hot and humid in there. One nice lady had to sit in the kid play section since there were no chairs left. They were over-booked, poor scheduling? They were running behind, and I almost walked out unsure if I'd attempt to reschedule. They over charge for simple processes, they are way over market value for some items while other services were average. Maybe the area (Concord, MA)?... they think everyone can pay excess for services and expect people to have disposable income? No one elects to waste money or over pay. They rushed my appt and then instead of getting what my insurance covered, they tried to up-sell me on topicals that (coincidentally) were sold 'in office.' Only gave me samples after I said I didn't want to purchase until I read/researched rating and results. Tried to set me up with cosmetic options that also were not covered by insurance. Find another place if you can unless you absolutely must go here, per insurance referral. read more

Will not use AP Derm again b/c of inconsistent care and bad billing practices.Treatment from Dr. Kovalszki was inconsistent with what we finally received from Dr. Hockberg. Dr. K charged $225 and it didn't work nor was there any expertise provided at the time on how to approach. Went back and happened to get an appointment with Dr. Hockberg. She looked at it and said we need to put a series of treatments together, was gone in 6 weeks. I disputed the original $225 (this is after spending quite a bit of $) they are telling me that I was told it might not work at the time (wasn't told explicitly, think it was in paperwork) and they will not budge on the cost. On top of this, I made a payment through my HSA account and AP Derm says they have no record ($500+). I tracked down copy of check they had already cashed. I have wasted way too much time dealing with them, there is no recourse so will no longer use them. read more

Overall it was ok. My appointment felt rushed as it is usually very busy. The dermatologist was very friendly and nice.
