I was referred to this practice by my GP who had a particular physician in mind but knew they would have a full schedule and to not expect an appointment with that physician. The first open appointment was with a PA which I was given. The office is accessed from the back of the building on the lower level. There is plenty of parking in this area. Once in the back door, the office is straight ahead. The staff all seem very busy. The were pleasant enough but also not chatty. Slide open the window, take my information, told to wait. Window closes. Pretty standard. I was the only one in the waiting area so I wandered around a looked at some of the information they had available on skin care treatments offered. Almost spa-like services. The reception/waiting area is very bare bones with no windows and hard seats. It took several minutes to be called back where I was placed in an exam room. The tech who brought me to the exam room verified why I was being seen. I expressed my concerns. She seemed very pleasant and left. I waited in that room quite a while. I could hear someone coming and going in the hall so one provider must have been going from room to room. When it was my turn the PA arrived with the tech. He greeted me, verified why I was there and then began speaking to the tech like I wasn't in the room. He sat on a stool, took out a magnifying glass and started looking over my face. Not at something I was there for, just all over my face. While doing this he is rattling off technical words to the tech who was writing everything down as he said it. Apparently he believes I have rosacea. For which he did not offer to treat me. Weird. If you catch that early it's treatable. He wasn't even sure at first it is rosacea and after dictating to the tech for a while changed his diagnosis to 'just make down rosacea' but then no treatment plan was offered. Once done with that he stood up asked what skin care I used and offered a cream for a secondary issue I was there for. My primary issue is a concern for skin cancer. He completely ignored that. I pointed it out. He ignored it again. I pointed it out again. He side stepped. I insisted he address it and he described how 'sometimes' a condition will occur and then described to me a pre-cancerous condition that is exactly what I had described to him at the beginning. He didn't tell me he didn't think it was an issue or he thinks it's something else or address the spot on my face in any way at all. He just kept avoiding the discussion until I forced the issue. I felt so uncomfortable with the experience after a few days I called the office and spoke to someone about my concerns. They assured me the treatment was the usual method and they would speak to the PA and get back to me. They never called me back, but the PA called and left me a voice message saying if I didn't understand the treatment to call him back. I do understand the treatment. I just want to know what is being done to improve this practitioners ability to treat patients. To respect their concerns. To communicate better. He treated me like a bug under a microscope then tried to walk out of the room as soon as his examination was complete. He was literally backing toward the door as he tried to end the appointment before I had gotten answers. I never received a call back from the person I spoke with and at this point I have lost all confidence in this group. On top of that, my insurance denied the claim. Great. read more

I have a long history of skin cancer, and saw Dr. Brooks Kimmis earlier this year for a semi-annual whole-body skin check. He was quietly professional, and appeared to provide a thorough examination. He biopsied one area, which was later confirmed as a squamous cell. I am also regularly seen at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My Nurse Practitioner there saw me only 60 days after my examination by Dr. Kimmis. She biopsied 3 additional and separate areas, all of which were confirmed as skin cancer - - 1 basal cell and 2 more squamous cell. Upon calling Dr. Kimmis to report this development and express my surprise and disappointment that he had not identified these additional cancers, his sole response was: "Thanks for telling me." read more

I feel like a good dermatology practice is hard to find. This practice is not just good, it's fantastic. I brought my daughter here about a year ago to get treatment for some painful, persistent acne. We saw Michelle Roy and she was amazingly kind and patient. She prescribed medication that cleared up my daughter's skin in a matter of weeks and gave her great tips on preventative care. Fast forward to today. I had a questionable skin spot that my primary doc said needed immediate attention. Called first thing this morning and they were able to squeeze me in as a new patient same day! I saw Dr. Kimmis who was thorough and personable. Ended up needing a small biopsy and he walked me through the whole procedure and after care before even getting started. He was professional and efficient but I never felt rushed. I could not believe I was in and out in less than twenty minutes! The scheduling, check in and checkout is low effort. The reception area and treatment rooms are pristine. The location is easy access with ample off street parking. I've noticed they do cosmetic procedures as well if that's something you fancy. I've been a patient here for years they give great care and truly have their patients best interest in mind. I go for skin checks, eczema and very sensitive skin. If I need to see someone right away they work it out to get you seen as soon as possible. The staff for the most part is very nice, Doctors are wonderful. read more

With that said, I have never had an issue here-albeit, super long wait times to get an appointment. Luckily, I have a standing annual with her. I had an excellent experience here, which was my very first visit. The offices are quiet, inviting, colorful and comforting. All the staff are professional and pleasant. He did a thorough full body skin scan and found some troubling spots and asked to do biopsies, which I agreed to. This was my 1st experience having a mole excised . The PA Melissa and Jessica welcomed me in and were very polite and explained everything. Asked if I had any questions , and Dr Jelinek came in and introduced himself and explained what he was going to do. Everyone listened in case I had questions about the procedure .I asked for music and they put some on. Took about 15 minutes and the dr was done and Melissa finished . I had Mohs surgery with Dr.Findley at the North Attleboro office two days ago. From booking with Dawn, then the pre-op telephone prep with Katie, to the surgery with Dr. Findley and medical assistant Katie, everything was professional AND warm. I felt in good hands throughout. This was my fifth Mohs, but my first at Dermatology Professionals. The pain is the same, no denying that, but, as I have said to friends, if you need Mohs (and of course I hope you don't), this is the team you want. The experience was top-notch. read more

I have a genetic predisposition to basal cell carcinoma (thanks dad!). It's called basal cell nevus syndrome. And they pop up all over my face! :( Skin cancer to the extent I have it, at 28 years old, is absolutely terrifying, as I feel there's nothing I can do to "stop it" or slow it down. Dr. Jellinek has removed some spots, and I've had a couple removed by another doctor my dad goes to (which I totally regretted the later after the fact). That's due to the fact that Dermatology Professionals did a great job, and I don't know why I didn't just have them remove all of them. Dr. Jellinek didn't sew me back up until he was 100% sure all the cancer cells had been removed. And the scars healed so you can't even see them now. I highly recommend the MOHS method he uses. You can tell he is very educated, and knows his stuff. I like that it's a "learning facility" where med students observe his procedures, and can learn more by doing/observing. His assistant (I want to say her name is Joelle or Janelle) did a great job prepping me for surgery, and cleaning me up afterwards. Before the day of the MOHS surgery, Tammy Menard, one of the physician assistants, performed a full exam from head to toe, looking for anything suspicious. Her assistant would then take pictures of the spots with an iPad, and I then had some biopsies performed. I've had many biopsies before, but she still put me at ease. She also gave me information on another condition I have, hyperhidrosis, which is an equally annoying condition, as it effects my quality of life. I greatly appreciated her honesty and professionalism regarding both my conditions. I have to go back in a couple months for another exam, and I'm praying she doesn't find anything new. But if there IS something to find, I know she will. Basal cell nevus syndrome stinks, and I feel sorry for anyone who suffers from it, or from more serious/aggressive cancers. But know that you will be in good hands with the staff at Dermatology Professionals. read more

Dr Alyssa Findley removed a basal cell carcinoma from my forehead using Mohs surgery. She did an excellent job! After only six weeks there is barely a scar. I was in and out of there quickly too. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dermatologist. Hopefully I won't have any more cancers but if I do she will be the one removing it! Update: Well I did have another cancer on my leg. Had Mohs surgery in Dec, 2015. :-( But Dr Findley did an amazing job again. It has healed very well. read more

Not a good experience. The main focus and expertise seemed be all about getting paid. The billing department personnel seemed to be the most competent and enthusiastic individuals in the practice. I went there with a psoriasis issue and left with a bad taste in my mouth. A complete waste of time. I moved to Rhode Island over five years ago and I'm still trying to find specialists that I like enough to schedule a follow-up visit with. I can finally say that I've found a great dermatology practice. One of my coworkers recommended seeing the nurse practitioner, Patty Schmidt, for a skin cancer screening. I have to admit that I was absolutely terrified to go for my initial visit. I have gotten better about taking care of my skin in my adulthood, but I was definitely a sun worshipper in my youth and high school days. I may have even spent some time in a tanning bed or two (eeeek!). I hadn't been seen by a dermatologist in at least ten years (and maybe even more than that). I desperately needed to have some freckles checked out. I had contacted several other dermatology offices in Providence, and the earliest appointment I could get wasn't for three months. When I called Dermatology Professionals and requested a consult with Patty, they got me in within two weeks. I was nervous about seeing a nurse practitioner instead of a doctor, but a few of her patients let me know that she consults with the doctors on a regular basis and has brought doctors into appointments if she isn't sure about something or wants a second opinion. From the minute Patty came into the exam room, she made me feel completely at ease. She explained what she was going to do, and then examined my entire body for freckles, moles, bumps, scars, and anything else that could be going on. She had an assistant in the room who was recording the size and shape of some of my freckles, and even took some pictures with her iPad so that the growth or changes could be monitored. After the initial screening, she told me that only one abnormal freckle needed to be removed for further biopsy. I was so relieved and happy with my experience. I made a follow up appointment to have the mole removed, which was quick and painless, and received a call within 5 days letting me know that the skin cells were completely normal. I don't have to go back until this time next year, and I'm not even worried about it. The reception staff is all very polite and professional, and the nurses are helpful and friendly and really take the time to talk with you. I've been seeing Dr. Chang and LOVE her! I have had two extremely bad experiences at Dermatology Professionals. On my first visit for an annual type check up I got a serious infection diagnosed as cellulitis (staff) requiring several weeks of antibiotics. I was then told to have a biopsy which they scheduled for a month out. (If you have cancer do you want to weight 6weeks to find out).The biobsy required Moh's surgery. It took me two months to heal the infection from this procedure and three months later it is still sore and the "dissolving" stitches have yet to dissolve completely. I can't say enough bad about my dismal experience. Oh and if you want to see a dermatologist good luck what you will see is a nurse practitioner and a poorly trained high school graduate. read more

They had me pay my $75 for my consultation only to tell me that the procedure is $200 and oh by the way... They can't do it until October! Seriously? They should be more forthcoming on the phone. The medial assistant was rude and made me feel so uncomfortable. The PA, Brian Theroux, seemed irritated that I was even there, met with me for about five minutes, then I was sent on my way. I had an appointment at 10:00am one morning. I arrived @9:45 as to not be late, and to fill out any necessary information that the office may have needed. At 10:40, I was still waiting to be called in so I went back up to the window to inquire and make sure they hadn't forgotten me. The friendly receptionist checked the computer and stated that she saw no reason for the delay and I should be called in soon. Finally, at 10:50 I was called in, escorted to an exam room, given instructions, and then waited another 20 minutes for the Doctor. When the Doctor finally came in ( 1 hour & 10 minutes late) she introduced herself, shook my hand and may no attempt to explain her tardiness. I found this totally unacceptable. I have been to many Doctor appointments over the years, had appointments delayed, but the Doctor ALWAYS apologized and gave some sort of explanation for the delay. My time is just as valuable to me as I'm sure it is to my Doctor. I will never return to this practice again! On a side note: they billed me within 1 week of my appointment.
