Man, do I wish this was my local hardware store…read more It's less than a mile away, and in most places that would be super local, but here in Brooklyn I've got two or three closer. Those shops wish they were Mazzone though. If I have the time (which I rarely do), I would much rather come down here. The folks behind the counter are friendly, knowledgeable, and they've always got everything I need. The prices are reasonable as well. It's just a little too far for me to walk for just a lightbulb or a screw that I need, but for larger purchases, or if I have actual questions, I find it's worth it. One thing that I like getting from them is my Christmas tree every year. They've always got a great selection, and I'd rather spend my money locally than with the Home Depot, the Whole Foods, or even the dudes on the street who trek down from Canada or wherever. Here the service is better and friendlier; the trees are great, they will saw the end off it (necessary for drinking the water up), and help me strap it to my car if it's too big to fit inside (or if I'm trying not to get needles everywhere). Anyway, Christmas is over for the year, but Mazzone is forever.

Support local businesses! First purchase was paint for my bedroom. They have color samples right when you walk in door. And after you choose your preferred color card. Go to counter, there is usually a line. Counter guys are really knowledgeable and helpful. Just don't be an ass! Store is full of everything for your house and home. Anyway counter guy got the right tint base and mixed color into base. The paint they carry is Valspar. Haven't painted yet lol. Price for 1 gallon tinted was approx $55. Oh btw before purchasing I checked prices. And was reasonable compared to online costs. Online doesn't offer 100s of color choices. Recently needed some touch up paint for my parents home. And can was 31.5 oz at $20 with tinted base. Will be using this store for all my basic home needs. The store is open Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 5 PM.

Even if they had it nobody at Home Depot would bother to check. I called on the phone and the person who answered was very helpful and polite. I explained the part and he said he thought he had it. When I came to the store and showed the washer. He asked if I called on the telephone and I said yes. His name was Ray and it took him all of 1 minute and he came back with the correct washer. When I asked how much it was he said $1. I was a little embarrassed as I ran out of the house without any money so I asked if I could use my credit card. He smiled and said don't worry about it! That's so rare today and I said I will be back for other things and will give him the $1 as a matter of principle. It so happens I went to a bakery across the street that only took cash so I went to an ATM, made a withdrawal and stopped back to pay Ray. He also helped me with a kitchen cabinet hinge which I was surprised that they had. The store is large, carries a great selection of plumbing supplies, including, toilets, tile, faucets and just about everything you can think of. I read the one other review on the business and was surprised Richard gave them only 3 stars which may have been because of the news network they play. REALLY?? Everyone spoke perfect English, was welcoming, friendly and eager to help. The price look good and high would highly recommend them for your plumbing needs. I will definitely be back.

We came here to buy a wok. They introduced us the cast iron wok, 34cm (13.4 inches), for $40. Both the lady and the guy who works here were hard-selling the wok. The lady says this wok is out of stock, it's very popular, it doesn't rust, and it's very good for your health. The guy says the more you use it the better it gets. We bought it. We used it once and only to steam fa gao. It rusted right away. We took pictures of it and went back to tell them in hope for an exchange. When they were selling us the wok, the lady said nobody complaint. Perhaps she was telling the truth, Chinese people find it a hassle to go back and complain. But now I did so she can't say that anymore otherwise she would be lying. Also, before we bought it, I asked if we can refund or exchange if it's not good. The lady says no refund but we can exchange for something else. Hence, we went back for an exchange. Both of the staffs were there. The guy says we can only exchange if we didn't use it. Dude, how do we know it's bad if we didn't use it? Why would we buy it, not use it, and exchange it? That makes no sense at all! Might as well say no exchange from the beginning. The guy says that because we used it, he cannot resell it, that's why they can't allow an exchange. Nonsense! It is not my fault you can't resell it. And we didn't really use it, we tried it. We didn't even cook with it. I've worked in a retail before, if a customer wants to return an item because it is bad, we give them back their money. If we cannot resell the item because it is bad, we dispose it right away. Don't force your customers to keep a bad item they bought from you! Give them their money back and you deal with the item, the customer shouldn't have to! This kind of business mindset that they possess is unfair, selfish, and very stupid. In addition, this time when we went back she says cast iron will rust. We were looking for one that doesn't rust so before we bought it we asked her and she promised it won't rust. This time she's telling us something different. She also made it sound like it's our fault, as if we didn't know how to use the wok that's why it rust. My mom's been using woks her whole life. If the wok is good it shouldn't give people so much trouble. It's also heavy to maneuver, and the lid is bad too. I'm pretty sure this wok will crack after a few uses, even though I deliberately asked before purchase and they promise it won't. I will update with a picture if it does. But I hope it won't because this will be a complete waste of money! We bought it because it's almost Chinese New Year, and we need one.

In the category of business names that invite annoying jokes about how this hardware is not your favorite, the new name gets 5 stars. A locksmith, and a hardware store in general, is one of those annoying things that you inevitably find yourself needing, and more often than not can't find a good one that's open late enough after work, is close enough to your house, and all those other things that frustrate you about locksmiths. So I was pleasantly surprised to find one literally on the same block as my apartment building. The first time I went in, I was trying to get a key duplicated, and they said they couldn't do it for me. I only realized later that it was one of those annoying keys that only your landlord can duplicate, so I definitely don't fault the hardware store for this. I'm pretty sure most places wouldn't have been able to do it either. I haven't had many occasions to go into this store since then, but I did go in again today to buy bubble wrap. The guy working there (who I think might have been the owner) was very friendly and helpful, but the small roll of bubble wrap was $15, and it was just a fraction of the amount I could have gotten at Staples for the same price. At first I thought I was the only one who found it expensive, but I was just talking to my super about what I'll need to move out of my apartment, and he warned me not to buy them from this place because of their prices. With that said, this is obviously a mom and pop spot, and I have to wonder how else you stay in business as a hardware / everything store that is rarely buzzing with customers, in a neighborhood that is quickly gentrifying and no doubt raising the rent. Though My Favorite is probably overpriced, I'd like to think that they make for it in convenience, character, and neighborhood charm.
