Man, do I wish this was my local hardware store. It's less than a mile away, and in most places that would be super local, but here in Brooklyn I've got two or three closer. Those shops wish they were Mazzone though. If I have the time (which I rarely do), I would much rather come down here. The folks behind the counter are friendly, knowledgeable, and they've always got everything I need. The prices are reasonable as well. It's just a little too far for me to walk for just a lightbulb or a screw that I need, but for larger purchases, or if I have actual questions, I find it's worth it. One thing that I like getting from them is my Christmas tree every year. They've always got a great selection, and I'd rather spend my money locally than with the Home Depot, the Whole Foods, or even the dudes on the street who trek down from Canada or wherever. Here the service is better and friendlier; the trees are great, they will saw the end off it (necessary for drinking the water up), and help me strap it to my car if it's too big to fit inside (or if I'm trying not to get needles everywhere). A Landmark on a neighborhood that has been destroyed by newcomers residents who hate the residents who CREATED Carroll gardens and make it what it is now. This is among the very few stores that works for everyone in the neighborhood and respects everyone. Family operated business that is jam packed with merchandise for home improvement, all your paint needs, gardening and BBQ season. They nearly have it all. What I like about Mazzone is that the staff is friendly & always willing to help or answer any questions. Some of their prices seem to be more elevated than a Lowe's for example, but they are a family business. There is an outdoor section that allows them to sell lots of plants, herbs, vegetables and flowers for planting in the warmer weather. You can also buy your Christmas tree/wreaths here during the holiday season. And don't forget about the mums. This store is a life saver. Its located conveniently where you can always access it and despite not looking gigantic like a home depot, you will always find the right stuff. Best part of all is that the staff is super knowledgeable and extremely pro active in helping. I went in today trying to figure out how to change my bulbs for an old track light. I contacted Mazzone's locksmith (Christian), left him a voice message asking him to take a look at the front door to our building. We have a buzzer system and the door was not closing on its' own. Christian returned my voice message within an hour, asked me to text pictures to help him assess the situation, as house calls are limited due to COVID. He ended up coming over and he fixed the lock. Just purchased a "Big Green Egg" from Mazzone Hardware on Court Street...not only was it in stock but the excellent salesperson Tyrell took an incredible amount of time to explain the options, assure all parts were in and walked over to our car to see whether it would fit car..so as HE suggested, we opted for delivery and assembly given the size and weight. Excellent SERVICE, OVER and BEYOND Speaking of EXCELLENCE Lou and Roberto the delivery and assembly guys, showed up promptly the next day at the time promised, slaved over what was not a simple assembly, did a top-notch job, and did not leave til they were sure it was PERFECT. They were courteous and professional, something seen only rarely these days.. I cannot say enough about how they took care of delivery and assembly... Every time I'm here, the employees are all so friendly and helpful. If they're unsure whether or not something is in stock or where it's located, they go out of their way to find an answer. They have a nice garden section as well - they even allowed me to borrow one of their hand carts so I could wheel my purchases home (I didn't want to wait for delivery). 5 Stars for their locksmith, Christian. Meant to write this review ages ago as Christian did a truly phenomenal job replacing our deadbolt with a Mul-T-Lock as well as the lock set for our entry door handles (that was having serious problems). This wasn't a simple swap out job as the 25 year lock set was from manufacturer that no longer exists and would have been impossible to replace. I had spent a day trying to fix myself and within 30 minutes Christian was able to undo the damage I had done and get the lock working like new. Christian is by far the best locksmith I have ever dealt with. Super fast, friendly, honest, and fantastic pricing (was 1/3 less than other locksmiths I talked to). Aside from Christian, I have always had a great with Mazzones. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I went to Mazonne because I had a plant in tough shape. I don't know anything about plants, somebody gave me one. Sylvia told me email her pictures of the plant. Then she told me bring in the plant. I brought in the plant. Sylvia knew just what to do. She is like the grand sorceress of botany. She took the plant and threw it in the air. I said Sylvia what are you doing?!? When the plant landed it had a new clay pot home, new soil, fertilizer, water and all trimmed. I couldn't believe it. It was magical. Also, she showed me everything she did and told me how to take care of the plant in the future. So, I learned something that day and also saw some magic. What the neighborhood hardware store should be. Nice salespeople, great selection, reasonable prices. This is the kind of place where everyone can go, no matter what their project or level of expertise, and receive quality customer service. I went in there looking for paint samples and couldn't find the color that I wanted. The teenage guy that was asked to help me really did his best to find it, even though it appeared from the start that they might be out of stock. Keys can be made, plants and firewood are for sale, and they have brand names and some generic ones in stock. In the future, if I haven't purchased enough sandpaper or dropcloths from Lowe's or Home Depot, I will be coming here to make my last-minute hardware purchases. I just wish that it was closer to my house than Sam's Hardware on Court St. But I think it's worth the extra 5-10 min. walk to avoid the attitude and rudeness that I've gotten at Sam's. read more

When you're below a certain age you probably don't know what a true "neighborhood" shop is like. One where you enter and they say hello (and not like a robot). They ask if you need help finding something and then actually take you to the exact location (versus feigning like they know and annoyingly pointing you to a far away location). The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. They have stock of the things you need and know where everything is. Let me preface this review by saying I am not a person who loves hardware stores. I like doing little DIY type things, but a hardware store is generally not a place where I recognize most of the items on the shelf or where I feel comfortable. That said, Mazzone is a great neighborhood hardware store. They've got all the basic stuff you'll need, and the prices are pretty good... but what really makes this place great are the salespeople! They are so nice and so helpful! I had a question recently about what to use the seal unfinished wood. An employee walked me to their selection of polyurethane and took a good 5-10 minutes to patiently explain (I can be a little annoying so this is no small feat!) to me the differences between the types and help me select the one that would work the best for my product. I was able to walk out of the store knowing how to complete my project and knowing without a doubt that I had picked the right supplies to get the job done. This review has been a long time coming. Let me start by saying that I know absolutely nothing about any of those "DYI/handy people thingies" but you've got to do what you've got to do when stuck between a rock and a hard place.... and so, I happen to walk into Mazzone Hardware one Sunday morning while waiting for a friend who was running late for brunch. At the time, I was in the complicated process of attempting to undo a whole lot of damage done by some very ... "not nice" tenants, while doing my best not to break the bank. Walking past the store I thought - "well, there was that Pinterest post I saw about fixing a tub, may be I can actually find something here." I walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly faces (later to be known as Nelson and Dwayne) offering to help. With an apprehensive "I don't know if it's possible but perhaps" I asked if there is such as thing as painting your tub instead of buying a new one as Pinterest claimed I was supposed to be able to do...and what do you know! indeed! Nelson was able to give me various options where not only did I not have to spend hundreds of dollars on a new tub and its installation but was able to get a "fix it" for less than $50!!!! Having this huge project on my hands, I ended up at Home Depot that evening to pick up "little odds and ends to start with" and get some more advice - boy was I a fool. Having wasted 2 hrs of my life and not gotten far, I decided to return to Mazzone's. Things certainly happen for a reason - I've gone back to Mazzone Hardware multiple times, asking questions, seeking advice, getting more supplies. The team at Mazzone's has proven to be most helpful, friendly, and encouraging. From pluming and electrical to the paint room, all the guys - Nelson, Dwayne, Lou, Roberto, Matt and even Patrick - have been of a huge help for my "little DIY" project of renovating a house. Thanks to Nelson, I was not only able to "rejuvenate" a bathtub, but also completely redo the butcher's block for less than $70! (pictures attached); as well as undo (what at the time appeared to be devastating) damage to a previously "barely used" stove. The girls at the register - Shatima, Bee, and Olivia, helped maintain positive attitude while the end did not seem to ever be in sight. The managers - Liz and Jordan - have been super helpful with additional advice/returns/and general questions (thanks for helping with the rewards card Liz!!!). The garden experts - Sylvia and Karod - helped in making things look pretty with advice on the outside (plants etc) of it all. Even the delivery guys, Hallum and Angelo, were always there with an encouraging word. The team at Mazzone is not just "employees at a local hardware store" - they're really a family who don't make you feel silly for asking silly questions and are always ready to help guide you along in your project. Thank you all for your friendly smiles, encouraging comments, directions, and never-ending patience for the (even more so) never-ending questions of a "need-help-please!" customer. I think this is my first Yelp review. I have never experienced such specific, patient, efficient customer service before heading into Mazzone hardware. I am putting up a Bed Bath & Beyond shelf in my bathroom. The plastic anchors and screws I had weren't going all the way in to the holes I had drilled. I needed (so I thought) shorter anchors and screws.... I couldn't find them while looking myself (very much appreciated letting this girl LOOK on her own for a bit in the hardware store, by the way), and after explaining my bizarre predicament, realized shorter items don't exist. I needed a new drill bit, one that could go through *anything*... even the brick I had apparently drilled into. Only $6!! Drill deeper w/that, and some replacement anchors (as I had bent mine with hammering) and I was out of there in under 8 minutes, about $8, learned a few things, and felt empowered to move forward w/my project. I live in Prospect Park South. Only in Carroll Gardens for a babysitting job. I will trek here again with pleasure. Whatever they're doing here, it's right on the money. read more

I had the best experience at this location. I went in not knowing what kinf of plants to get (I know nothing about plants). But, thanks to the knowledge and patience of Lenny who works in the garden I now know I can have begonias and impatien's in my poorly lit apartment. I had a million and one questions and he answered all of them. Mazzone is a great neighborhood hardware store. They have a lot more stock than you'd think, so just ask! I'm an independent design-build remodelers and I stop in here almost daily. This is the go-to spot for paint as well, carrying the best paint-Benjamin Moore. I recently used their locksmith service and was very happy with the result. The price was very fair considering it required a house call. Whenever they can find you parts, and avoid that house call, they will. Probably the friendliest store I have visited in a looong while !! We made the trek from the north end of Cobble Hill near Court and Atlantic, as the True Value there were out of tins for the paints and suggested we goto Mazzone, which am so glad we did. Even though the store was very crowded on a Sunday afternoon, the staff was extremely patient with our newbie questions and concerns. While standing in the checkout lines, one of the guys from the store, stopped by and suggested we swap the thick paint rollers in favor of thin ones, which made so much sense later when we actually started painting our walls, as the thick rollers would have made the walls look like pop-corn ceiling with excess paint dripping all over! This tip was a life saver :) Am going here again for all my hardware needs in future, even though it is out of my way !! read more

I have now fixed both the outer and yesterday the much more complicated inner door. All thanks to Mazzone's expert guidance of this "unhandyman." I got the right screws, pin and instructions on how the door knob apparatus works. The repair took less than an hour total, ~$20 and probably saved me a couple of hundred bucks.
