Dimitry and his team exceeded our expectations so much so that we rehired them to build us not one, but two storage sheds. But did they really build us the storage sheds we wanted? Why Rehire? We had one previous storage shed. You know the one that everyone has. The so called Tuff Shed, in reality wasn't so tuff. It was falling apart. It was seated on cinder blocks that weren't stable or sturdy. There were gaps in between the doors and we wanted something more secure and airtight from dust and critters. Especially the smell. You know what i'm talking about if you've had one. We also wanted something more purposeful, and something that would have longevity. So we shopped around looking at Tuff Sheds from Home Depot & Lowes, but quickly realized that they were similar to what we all ready had just with a bit more bandages. We knew within a very short period of time these sheds were going to fail miserably from their design and cheap building material. So we picked up the phone and called Dimitry at DL Design who we TRUST. The Build: After discussing our requests with Dimitry his team went to work. Heres a brief breakdown of the work they did: They tore down the old shed, poured two concrete pads including a walkway leading up to the shed (that we just love). They anchored the shed down to the strong concrete pad, which practically made it tornado proof. They built the frame with precision and excellent craftsmanship. Insulated it so i can store more temperature regulated items. They sheathed the frame with plywood on the exterior as well as the interior. Then wrapped it with a water barrier paper. They installed several windows to help control temperature and bring in natural lighting. They installed a sturdy door with lock and key, which helped secure it, as well as prevent dust and insects from entering in. Unlike the prefab ones that have gaps and fall apart due to water intrusion and warping from sunlight. They finished the inside & outside with the best siding material out on the market, the James Hardie fiber cement siding. They also painted it from inside and outside with high quality paint. And not to fail to mention they installed electrical with an interior ceiling light and 3 outlets. You thought I was done, but i'm not. They also installed 3 custom gutters to help direct water away from the structures. The Upside: With these two new "sheds" we can utilize this space for so many purposes such as a new office space or even a gym. We can store things in there that we could never store in any new prefab shed out there. Such as food as an extra pantry, clothing such a transferring winter wardrobe from summer wardrobe. Storing blankets, towels, bed sheets, and not worry about things smelling like it came out of a shed. We no longer need to worry about bugs or critters getting to our valuables or moving in underneath the crawlspace making a din, since the "shed" is sealed airtight from all around. We signed the paperwork in the late Fall, which is a busy time for them but Jeremy was always up front with their estimated timing, which I really appreciated. I needed to replace my roof this year and Straight Line came highly recommended by some of my…read moreneighbors. Straight Line was the most expensive quote that I received. The second highest was $6,000 less. The lowest were around half the price for roughly a 1,900 ft roof. I think the total ended up being around $34,000 for the mid range materials, plus an additional $2,400 after the roof was torn off for unseen damage. Here's how it went. The estimate was done by Adrian. He was on time. He was polite. He was very thorough with the estimate and gave us options that other companies did not do, including material that would be beneficial for a solar install, additional insulation over a flat roof section, and options for add ons like a whole house fan, skylights, etc. He was responsive by text and email for questions, although some of his responses did seem a little condescending, or like we were dumb when we were asking for clarification. It's an expensive purchase! I want to know what I'm getting myself into. The scheduling and payment process was a little confusing. All the contracts were handled through an app, and you just signed through there. Information was not laid out in an easy to read/find manner. Once the contract was signed, someone called me almost immediately to get me on the schedule for the week after. Figuring out how to put down a deposit, or pay, or select financing terms was not completely obvious. I did end up calling the office to pay for a portion out of pocket, and to finance the rest. There was a much of mixups within the office and they almost charged me for the portion that I had already paid at the end. There was a lot of back and forth via text with various people in the office to get that sorted out. The work took about six days, one full week of work and then one day of touch up work. They tarped most things down for the tear off and swept when it was done. Some of my plants in the front yard got damaged by the tarps and workers stepping around. And some of my rare native California succulents, which were not in the roof removal blast zone, were run over by a truck. I asked about replacing these as they were mature (expensive for the size/age), and hard to find, but they never responded about that, which was a little frustrating. Once the roof was off, they were able to identify additional damage and quoted me for that. The foreman, Jose, was super nice and very communicative. He let me know what to expect for the day, and when he was done, he let me know when he'd be back and what he needed to finish. Unfortunately, the supervisor for the project went on vacation while my roof was being done. It didn't seem like there was anyone to cover while he was out, so several things were missed and not coordinated. I ended up having Straight Line install a whole house fan for me while the roof was off. The fan was delivered, but then no one ever came to poke into the attic and figure out where it should go. A rough location was identified from the outside, but it ended up being wrong. Jose, the foreman, dropped the fan into the roof before he finished it for the installer to deal with, but didn't put the duct in. When the installer came to install the whole house fan, he determined that the location it was placed in would not work. In order for him to install it, he'd have to cut into the brand new roof, which was slightly maddening. This could have been avoided with a little coordination. Once the supervisor was back, communication went well, and the issues I wanted addressed were fixed. Overall, it was a good experience. I would likely hire again.
