First off...I hate bra shopping! I have bras that are older than my 17 year old daughter lol! But I finally decided to update my wardrobe with a new bra. After seeing recommendations for Aphrodite's Closet in social media groups, I finally made my way there. I was greeted by the owner, Ms. Tina, in the beautifully decorated store. It's located off the street in a non descript storefront but once you step inside, you know you're in a female friendly space. Ms Tina asked about the problems I was experiencing with my current fit and then literally sized me up. I went from a 40D to a customized 38G which fit like a glove. While she was busy providing the individualized fitting. I mused about the price, think it would be over $100 for each handmade brassiere so I was thrilled to hear the bras run under $75. Which is still a lot for a single bra compared to department store brands but the quality was outstanding. She explained how they are made and that you can also customize the look. I looked and felt like a brand new woman. So much so that I nabbed a sports bra on the way out. Plan to upgrade your wardrobe soon. You'll be glad you did. read more

I happened in one day last year just being curious... ... I had seriously had no plans to purchase anything... I walked out that day with one bra and a long wish list! Miss Tina is amazing, so amazing that I need to quote Stephanie O., "She is a bra goddess and she will change your life!!!" and Jen H. "EVERY WOMAN needs to be "Fitted" by the Bra Whisperer!!!" It was a slow day so we got a chance to chat for about an hour or so. I wanted to take pics of the shop to share, so we talked about Yelp and being a Yelp Elite. Miss Tina does charge for fittings if you don't make a purchase that same day. Once you get the right fit tho, you will never look back. I have never in my life ever been fitted for a high end bra. Never ever would I think about spending this kind of cash for a bra... Let me tell y'all tho... It is worth every single penny! I put on that Ewa Michalak handmade bra from Poland and tears came to my eyes as my shoulders lifted up and back went straight... Wow, just Wow! This designer is so fabulous, just look at my girls! Was in TX for a family get together and I needed new bras so I contacted Tina before I came. I was worried about the timing since I was flying in, but she was incredibly accommodating to make sure I was able to get what I needed. She is so sweet and amazing at what she does! Living in New Braunfels and being a 34H, there aren't a lot of options for boutique lingerie and bra shopping. I found Aphrodite's Closet by Googling plus-size lingerie (I'm a size 16 at the moment) and wanted something sexy for a night out with the husband. When I first walked in, I was greeted by a friendly and warm woman, the owner, Tina. Since I'm bigger, I've been professionally fitted my whole life and nearly every time I get fitted by someone new, they want to put me in a different size and I end up arguing with my fitter. So I was braced for this walking in, I was defensive from the get-go. Tina met me and my husband and asked me what I was looking for. Lingerie was my specific reason for the visit. I told her what size I was, 34H/size 16, and asked if she had anything that might fit me. She asked if she could fit me, because she wasn't sure I was in the right size, and I got a little angry (remember I said I was going in defensive) and told her that was my size. Period. She was immediately apologetic and showed me what lingerie she had. Unfortunately, none of the cup sizes were made for big, floppy boobies, so the in-store selection of lingerie didn't work. Tina was telling me about a designer she works with that is from Poland... Ewa Michalak. She said she had a look book she could send me in email from which I could custom order lingerie in my size. I asked her if she had any Ewa bras in stock in my size and she said yes, so I said let's try them on! Tina started explaining about wire shape to me. She talked about bottom-heavy versus top-heavy breasts and where the root of the breast starts. No one, not a single fitter in my past, has ever mentioned any of these things to me before. She told me that my current bra (which was sized correctly by the way) was pushing my breasts to the side and into my armpits because the wire was the wrong shape on the bottom. I needed a narrow wire at the base of the breast and a fuller cup, which is exactly how Ewa Michalak's bras are designed. OMG, the very first bra I tried on my eyes bugged out of my head... and so did my husband's! My girls have never looked this good. I have longer breasts, gravity has not been kind, and these puppies were up. I had full tacking in the center, the cups are not full-coverage, so I even have cleavage. I bought two unlined bras and two lined bras. And I've ordered two custom baby doll lingerie pieces too. Do yourself a favor and go see Ms. Tina. This store is definitely one of the best lingerie stores in San Antonio, if not the whole Hill Country. I've been here four times, by myself and with a friend, and each time, the owner and operator, Tina, gives fantastic, hands-on service that puts Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus to shame. I've never walked out less than satisfied with my service or my purchase. I think there are really two components to how great this store is: The first is Tina herself. She is really dedicated to getting every woman who comes through her doors properly fitted and educated, and also into a really awesome -looking and -fitting bra. She never does the hard sell, which is nice because there is nothing worse than trying on bras and having a saleslady really push for you to buy it right then and there, when maybe you aren't sure. No, instead she lets her fitting do the work for her. Just putting on a bra that doesn't feel like a medieval torture device is so pleasant, and honestly, seeing my breasts look nice and perky whilst not crushing my rib cage is enough to make me want to buy a bra right then and there. She uses UK sizing, which is more accurate than US bra sizing, and spends a significant portion of time in each fitting explaining what a properly fitting bra should look and feel like, and how to get the same fit in different lingerie stores. Also, her fittings are free, so even if you don't purchase a bra, you've still gotten a nifty educational lesson in bra-fitting. Secondly, Tina has a pretty good selection of bras, and is always looking to improve them as well. I know she currently carries Curvy Kate and Parfait by Affinitas (both are impossible to find elsewhere in San Antonio), as well as Elomi for more full-figured ladies. The last time I spoke to her, she was also thinking of stocking the Polish lingerie brand Ewa Michalak as well! This large brand selection is important because only half of the fitting has to do with properly sizing a lady - the other half is figuring out what style of bra will work with the shape of her breasts! For an example, a friend and I went together last weekend, since my friend was interested in getting fitted. We're not that many sizes off - she's a 36FF and I'm a 34F - but the shape of our breasts is totally different, so what looks great on me looks terrible on her, and vice-versa! However, Tina was able to size both of us with ease, and also recommend some flattering, comfortable bras for both of us. She also sells swimsuits too! I bought a cute bikini top from her, and it's the first time in years I feel like I can swim in public and not risk arrest on public indecency charges. Final point: Tina is also very conscious of the lingerie market in San Antonio. Although this is a specialty boutique, her prices are about comparable with non-sale Victoria's Secret. That's in the range of $40-60 per bra. Although that sounds expensive if you've been buying Hanes bras for the last few years, it's really affordable compared to the average lingerie brand price at Nordstrom's or Neiman Marcus, which is more in the $60-90 range. I know I appreciate the fact that I can invest in a good foundation garment wardrobe without breaking the bank. In terms of location, it's in little shopping center right when Walzem Road runs into Montgomery Road - if you see a sign for a barbeque place and a tae-kwon-do studio, you're in the right place. The storefront is teeny-weeny, but it's bigger on the inside than it looks, so just go in! I know I hesitated a little bit the first time I saw it, but it's really not that frightening or strange. She has it painted a lovely dark purple, with a sitting area in the front and the fitting rooms in the back and displays in between. It's very intimate, not intimidating; it's also very clean and tidy, which is a plus, since I hate messy stores. Basically, this store is the bomb, you should totally go if you hate wearing bras, because you're probably not fitted correctly. I went from being in a state of acute back and shoulder pain every day, just counting the hours until I could go home and take off the monstrous device and put on a cheap sports bra, to easily wearing an underwired bra 10-12 hours a day and not even noticing. I read all the other reviews & needed a new bra. Well the 2 bras she suggested and sold me were not the right size. She is the bra Nightmare. The underwire cut into my skin and caused an abrasion that lasted for 3 days. When I explained this to Tina she said she would give me an in store credit. I explained that i wanted my money back on the bra i never wore or took the tag off of. She said NO. To me if you are selling me something that harmed me and wanted to keep me as a client you would give me my money back on the purchase. It's not like I was being unreasonable. I wore one of the bras and i was willing to pay for it. The other was returned and NEVER worn. Give me my money back. I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company. Response to Review Debunking: 1) As for as opening specifically for me, you were the one who offered and me spending almost $500.00 for an hours time, I would say was worth the small effort on your part. Besides the fact you said you were coming in to do paperwork anyway. 2) Waiving the fitting fee. Are you joking? What is your idea of a fitting? Bringing me a bra and insisting this was my size? No measuring tape or any other measurements were EVER taken for me or my customer service rep that accompanied me. BTW The bra you insisted fit her was 2 sizes too big and when you finally stopped arguing with her and got a size smaller it was still too big. The bra you sold me cut into me so tight that within an hour it had rubbed under my right breast so much it was almost bleeding & i have pictures to prove it and witnesses at the clothes store where I bought a new bra 1 hour later. 3) Breaking in period for bras...??? I have never heard of that and if you are the bra lady then guess what bit of important information YOU should have shared with me. You guessed it... A little discomfort I can see cutting into me like sandpaper not so much... That bra rubbed me RAW!!! The abrasion lasted until Tuesday. That is the 3 days to which referred 4) I did not tell you I was fine with store credit but you were adamant about not giving me my money back and I needed something in writing for when I disputed the charges and if i dont get money back I can sell the card because I will NEVER set another foot in your store. I will sell it for the cost of 1 bra which is what I originally ask back the money for. The unused and still tagged bra. 5) I stood in your store for almost 10 minutes while you made the gift card and receipt for the return and said not one word about replacing or actually finding a bra that fit. I saw no bras sitting out anywhere. 6) Your comment to me about the return was that it was a good thing you saved the tag so that you could reattach and resell it, so dont try to look like you care about people who are less fortunate. 7) Even though your policies are clearly stated I need to shop at a more reputable store. One who will return UNUSED merchandise with a full refund. I was the one willing to eat the cost of the bra I wore and all I asked for was a return on my money for the RETURNED MERCHANDISE. 8) YOU LOST A GOOD CLIENT AND I WILL BE TELLING ALL MY FRIENDS ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE. read more
