    2017 Fiesta Medals
    Roni R.

What an awesome store and a wonderful experience after all these years. I haven't been to Pinner's since the early 1990's with my dad who was a client of Penner's. My dad loved this store. He would come home with a new pair of Stacy Adams shoes and a new suit three pieced suit. He would even buy a new hat with a bright beauty feather on it. Today I came in to purchase a Fiesta Medal 100 years in San Antonio. They even had t-shirts. I would have loved a nice tank top to wear during the fiesta 2017. Maybe they will have those in stock next year. The staff was friendly and welcome from the time we entered Penner's until the time we left. I was impressed with the fact that they carry women's clothes and some awesome western boots. I think I'm going to visit them the next time I want a new pair and a matching neckless. Penner's wowed my nephew so when he's older and ready for a real suit I know where I'm taking him. Memories of the past brought in a new client for the future. If you are in the downtown area stop on by. There's plenty of parking in the back of the store. You wont be disappointed.

Been shopping there for decades. What's with the parking? Why did I get charged if I'm a customer? Then...sometimes they don't charge? Anyways, unique clothes, some things never go out of style

I was told they didn't have any and wouldn't for several months. I then asked if I could be measured to at least get a sense of my size for future reference, but was told they don't measure because "all hats are different." I also asked about the possibility of ordering one, but received the same response that nothing would be available for months. I understand that inventory can be limited, especially for popular styles and larger sizes. That part didn't bother me. What was surprising was the lack of engagement--no sizing, no discussion of fit, and no guidance on ordering or alternatives. Given Paris Hatters' long-standing reputation in San Antonio, I was expecting a more hands-on and informative experience. This felt more like a quick dismissal than a customer interaction. I may try again another time, but this visit didn't reflect the level of service I had heard so much about.

Sombrero hats, shoes, Mexican dresses, toys, the list goes on. Be careful about the stairs; they are rather steep. I love how the signs tell you to keep your children with you. There is also another sign telling you that you cannot try on the shoes. I asked the salesgirl about it, and she said that they had lots of people coming in to try on the shoes, but not buying any. And then people who actually bought the shoes would come back saying that the shoes smelled like feet from all the people who had tried on the pair of shoes previously. True story, swear to God. I guess tourists have stinky feet! I was looking for a souvenir for myself. Warned about the shoes, I actually was looking to get either a Mexican blouse or dress as I had seen several gorgeous ones during my stay in San Antonio. The salesgirl was great in helping me pick out one, and even better yet, offered a discount if I paid in cash. Done. Best yet, after visiting Market Square, I noted that this store's clothes prices were indeed less expensive than the stores on Market Square. Same merchandise, different prices. I don't know how the other merchandise stacked up, but it does pay to shop around.

I do not like to collect anything and only purchase items that have a purpose. So this shopping setup goes against everything I usually gravitate toward. However, when on vacation I do like to get a taste of the local fare and perhaps grab a little something to remember my visit. Near where we were staying is the Market Square-an indoor/outdoor market boasting brightly colored, cheaply made and mostly imported items. There are lots of people, upbeat music and an energy that lures you in. Here, you can find a variety of articles of clothing, hats and shot glasses. I was looking for something that I could take to my son-something practical-ish that I wouldn't mind seeing around the house. We visited three separate times (it was a stop on our tour bus), but each time I left empty handed. The hours are a bit limited-they open at ten (or a bit after, really) and close at 4pm. There are restaurants sprinkled throughout, which might draw more people than the actual market. I would have liked to see some more high-quality, artisan made items rather than so many cheap things that were mass produced. Or more "consumable" items such as soaps, candles, candies, etc. But if you're looking for a souvenir without having to spend a lot of money, you just may find something here.
